Second Amendment News Roundup for 7/24/08

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

The Obamessiah has arrived in his Mecca (the European Union) to throngs of worshippers who wonder if his speech in Germany will be his 'JFK moment.'

Messiahs don't lie, but Barack Obama does! Gateway Pundit caught him in at least 3 whoppers just prior to his departure from Israel to go to Europe.

Via Rezkorama, The Astute Bloggers show us the difference between lying and misspeaking (the Obamessiah's excuse for every lie he tells).

Born Again Redneck has essential reading on the 'Big O's' visit to Germany, entitled, 'Ich bin ein doughnut.' ROFL!!

David Codrea at War on Guns posts a follow-up to the story reported yesterday that the Memphis police chief has targeted bloggers in the area who have been critical of the department.

Armed and Safe, among others, calls attention to the controvery within the gun community that Mike Vanderboegh has stirred. Some among us believe his writings are over the top, but not if you consider that his premise has merit. It seems to me the rub comes in on the question of 'when' and not 'if.'

Traction Control provides a good summary of the controvery and has some entirely reasonable observations, in my opinion.

JR at A Keyboard and a .45 gives us an update on his upcoming trip to Blackwater to train with Todd Jarrett.

Roberta X points out some vital facts about the human race before we wised up and started eating meat.

Alphecca says that D.C. still doesn't get it, but one editorial writer does.

In case you missed it, The Bitch Girls provide an update to the anti-freedom billboard debacle in Philly.

Speaking of Mike Vanderboegh, Sebastian has posted a poll on the subject of revolution. Go over there, take a look, and cast a vote that represents your views on the subject.

Breda blogs on the joys of learning to shoot...and guns being 'the great equalizers.'

John Lott reports that a former proponent of the man-made global warming theory has now changed his mind.

Michelle Malkin gives us some news that was not reported in the MSM. Obama was heckled during his visit at the Western Wall in Israel...and was met with very loud and persistent protesters. But no matter. He's already in Germany where the peons will bow in worshipful praise to their Master, providing the MSM with many good photo-ops.

Texas Fred said the Second Amendment IS his gun permit! Yes, sir, I agree!

JB's Corner points to some MUST-read articles today, one of which is, 'What Part of "Drill Now" Do They Not Understand?'

Days of our Trailers provides a good example of what happens when illegal aliens are given refuge in so-called 'sanctuary cities' (i.e., cities that are breaking U.S. law).

CHINA'S PRE-OLYMPICS HUMAN RIGHTS FIASCO

The Communist government of China has made no friends in its run-up to this year's highly publicized Olympic games which are to be held in the country.

In fact, the regime's human rights violations in the days leading up to the Games can be described as nothing less than a public relations fiasco.

First it was the regime's treatment of Tibetan monks. Now it is its treatment of political dissidents.

Reuters New Service is reporting that Chinese police have arrested Du Daobin, a prominent Internet dissident, for violating the terms of his probation.

Du had been arrested and imprisoned for posting online essays in support of fellow dissident Liu Di. Once convicted, Du was placed under house arrest and given a suspended sentence for 'subversion.'

But Du was placed under arrest once again this week after being charged with posting articles on overseas websites and receiving guests without permission.

In fact, an entire group of dissidents has been rounded up by the Chinese Communists prior to the Olympics. Their worst offense appears to be making statements critical of the Chinese government.

Yet most of the Chinese believe that hosting the Olympics will help 'improve their image around the world.'

Not with these human rights violations, it won't.

SC Legislature Strips Doctors of Control of Care

Who, exactly, should be in control of the medical care of the sick?

According to the South Carolina legislature, it should be a bureaucrat sitting in an office somewhere miles away and NOT the patient's personal physician.

The fact that said bureaucrat has an M.D. beside his or her name is immaterial.

The legislature overrode Governor Mark Sanford's veto of a bill that effectively strips doctors of their control of their patients' care and places it squarely in the hands of unnamed bureaucrats sitting in plush offices in insurance companies.

Governor Sanford is to be commended for standing up to the special interests of the insurance companies and placing the health and well-being of patients first.

As for the South Carolina legislature, the Governor has had an exceedingly hard time gaining the cooperation of the supposed 'Republican-controlled' statehouse. Apparently many of these are Republicans in name only. Many of them have already been defeated in primaries and will not be serving again.

They can't begone quickly enough to suit us, in fact.

To be sure, patients are the ones who have ultimate control over their medical care. Outside of that, it is the patient's physician. Never was health insurance envisioned to be a mechanism whereby to override the judgment of the medical professional closest to the scene--the bedside physician.

For the legislature to take this time-honored, sacred trust and turn it over to anonymous pencil-pushers is nothing less than an outrage.

The Democrats in the statehouse, along with the few Republicans who joined them, should not be allowed to get away with this travesty. It is time for an accounting.

Be sure to read the entire article HERE. It names the names of the offenders. Glenn Reese, D-Spartanburg, is one of them.

JOHN EDWARDS CAUGHT WITH PANTS DOWN

Former U.S. Senator and Vice-Presidential candidate John Edwards (D-NC) has been caught with his pants down after meeting his mistress and their love child at a hotel this week.

Matt Drudge first broke the story concerning Edwards' extramarital affair and love child last December, as reported on The Liberty Sphere.

At the time Edwards was running for the Democratic nomination for President.

The story produced a string of strongly-worded denials by Edwards and his staff.

Yet this week the National Enquirer was on the scene where Edwards met the woman and child--the Beverly Hilton on Monday night, July 21.

The Enquirer reports that the former Senator was in the woman's hotel room all night and was seen leaving the next morning.

Edwards' wife is at home in the fight of her life against cancer.

OBAMA CAMPAIGN'S GAFFE OF THE CENTURY

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The candidate is too much the novice and his campaign staff far too inexperienced to get a free ride.

Add to this the fact that the candidate and his staff have zero humility but seem to possess an arrogance that defies logic.

The Barack Obama campaign attempted to explain why it has been so doggedly determined to put the candidate on glowing display in Europe during his much-touted overseas tour, and in doing so may have committed the single biggest political gaffe of the century.

Obama faced criticism from some within the EU, German Chancellor Angie Merkel in particular, who did not want the candidate making a 'campaign speech' from the Brandenburg Gate as he requested.

The Obama campaign responded with this incredible piece of reasoning: 'When the President of the United States goes out to give a speech, it is not a political speech or a political rally.'

Of course, the statement is true. Problem is, Barack Hussein Obama is not the President of the United States, a small fact that he seems to have lost while on his trip to the Middle East and Europe. It's hard to maintain your sense of groundedness in reality when you are the subject of adoration 24/7 by those who liken you to the Savior of Mankind.

This one single statement by a senior Obama campaign official represents the political gaffe of the century. But the statement is only the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath is an attitude of entitlement that assumes Obama speaks with the full weight of a head of state, which he clearly does not.

Obama had absolutely no business speaking with the Iraqi Prime Minister, for example, concerning troop withdrawals. This is the task of the President of the United States and his official representatives alone.

And thus, we now have major gaffe number 2.

Gaffes 3 and above, ad infinitum, came during Katie Couric's one-on-one interview with Obama during the CBS Evening News Tuesday evening.

Under surprising pressure from Couric, Obama still insists that 'if he knew then what he knew now,' he STILL would not support the troop surge in Iraq, which has resulting in a stinging defeat for terrorist insurgents in the country.

The candidate also snatched the victory away from our troops serving in Iraq and credited the improving conditions solely on circumstances inside Iraq, particularly the Sunnis.

And as if this were not enough, Obama claims he never stated two different positions on dividing up Jerusalem between Israel and the Palestinians, although the statements in question have been preserved on video, which you can find by clicking on the links provided below.

So dreadful was Obama during the interview with Couric that one commentator has stated that this could be the beginning of the end for the candidate.

Union Council Leaves Mayor/Adm. Position Intact

The Union City Council left intact the combined positions of Mayor and City Administrator for the upcoming special write-in election in November.

Early reports indicated that the Council may seek to separate the two positions following the indictment of Mayor Bruce Morgan, who had initiated the combining of the two jobs.

But the Council decided that the positions will remain combined, and thus, the person who wins the mayoral election in the Fall will also become the City Administrator with a salary of $103,545 per year.

The winner will also oversee an operation with an annual budget of over $50 million per year.

And surprisingly, the qualifications for running for the office are quite few.

Read more about it here in a special report issued by the Union Daily Times, entitled, 'Want to Be Mayor? Few Restrictions for Write-in Candidates.'

PROSECUTOR SPEAKS ON UNION SC CASE

The prosecuting attorney for the government in the Union, South Carolina corruption scandal commented today on the case, according to local news sources at the Union Daily Times.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald told the Daily Times that his office places a high priority on cases of public corruption.

If convicted, former Union Mayor Bruce Morgan and city zoning Director Jeff Lawson could receive a maximum of 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000 per infraction.

Morgan is charged with 6 counts of extortion. Lawson is charged with 4.

McDonald also confirmed earlier reports indicating that more indictments could be handed down in the case.

Mayor Morgan resigned from office the morning of his arrest, just prior to the announcement that the indictments had been issued. Lawson, however, has not resigned but has been placed on administrative leave.

Michelle Malkin has the Cliff Notes version of Obama's news conference today in Jordon. What a blabbering, driveling numbskull.

Incredible. Absolutely, unbelievably, freakin' incredible. Gateway Pundit quotes Barack Obama as saying overseas that even now, after the resounding success of the troop surge in Iraq, he would still oppose it. What a worthless little piece of sh**!

Days of our Trailers gives us an update on the various municipalities around Illinois that are rescinding their gun bans in light of the Heller decision.

Comrades Raul and Hugo Strengthen Ties

When Cuban communist dictator Fidel Castro relinquished control of his regime into the hands of his brother Raul, many speculated that the transfer of power signified a new era of more freedom and fewer restrictions for the Cuban island.

As it turns out, nothing could be further from the truth.

Raul apparently is every bit the Communist hardliner that Fidel was.

Reuters News Service has released an analysis of the relationship between the new Cuban leader and Venezuelan communist dictator Hugo Chavez, and the news isn't good.

The two are quickly forging a stronger alliance as plans are made to team up in oil drilling in the Caribbean, even as the Congress in the U.S. under the Democrats continues to forbid offshore oil drilling by our own country in response to the current crisis in gasoline prices.

Cuba and Venezuela are having a field day in the region while the Americans are forced to live with ridiculous and irrational restrictions placed on our own ability to drill, as prescribed by the environmentalist movement and their mouthpieces in the Democratic Party such as Barack Obama, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.

In addition, Cuba and Venezuela are set to begin laying an under-the-sea cable that will enable the two countries to share Internet access.

Thus, the analysis provided by the mainstream media on the 'moderating influence' of Raul Castro was wrong. One can be judged by the company he keeps, and in Raul's case, Hugo Chavez tells us all we need to know.

ELI WIESEL'S ATTACKER CONVICTED

In February of 2007, just after making a speech in San Francisco, Holocaust survivor and internationally-acclaimed author Eli Wiesel stepped onto an elevator at his hotel to return to his room.

Seemingly out of nowhere a man stepped forth who began to shout obscenities at Wiesel, accusing him of helping perpetrate 'the lie of the Holocaust.'

Wiesel, who was 78 at the time of the attack, was left traumatized by the incident.

The man who was arrested and charged with the attack received a guilty verdict today in a San Francisco courtroom. His sentencing will take place later in the summer.

At the trial Wiesel testified that he thought he was being kidnapped by his attacker.

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

Gateway Pundit has several must-reads. First, in spite of Obama's much-touted withdrawal plans for Iraq, once he got there the coward never mentioned the subject. Second, The New York Times refused to publish an editorial by John McCain in spite of the fact that it published a complete article written by Barack Obama. And third, the V-P of CBS News has the gall to say that John McCain is to blame for the Obama-worship of the 3 network anchors on the trip to Europe and the Middle East.

OBAMA BIRTH CERTIFICATE A FORGERY?

An expert in forensics computer analysis who is also a certified fraud examiner claims that the official birth certificate used by Barack Obama to prove his credentials for running for the Presidency is a forgery.

This explosive revelation was made after a thorough investigation involving weeks of scientific analysis, document examination, comparative studies, and forensics lab work were conducted, the results of which have been posted by Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs.

Geller posted the results of the study of the birth certificate this weekend after securing the services several weeks ago of the expert who has made Barack Obama the subject of a fraud investigation.

As you will see by clicking on the link, the investigator completed the analysis under the weight of personal threats by those who obviously did not wish for the report to be issued.

My friends, this is explosive stuff.

Scandalous CBS Reporter Lands Obama Interview

Much has been made, and rightly so, of the fawning reporters of the mainstream media who are following in Barack Obama's train to the Middle East and Europe this week.

Katie, Charles, and Brian will all be there to give us a play-by-play.

But it is CBS that has scored first with a one-on-one interview with the Illinois Junior Senator.

And guess who was the CBS reporter who scored that first one-on-one interview.

None other than Lara Logan--the one who has been named as 'the other woman' in a divorce lawsuit brought by the wife of one of the men with whom Logan allegedly had an affair while serving as CBS's war correspondent in Iraq.

She is also reported to be pregnant with the man's child. Or at least she was, maybe.

Logan had disappeared from the air for several weeks after the story first made news. She had taken on a high profile after receiving a promotion to become CBS News' Chief Correspondent for 'Foreign Affairs,' often appearing along side of Katie Couric in the studio.

Yet when CBS News aired its segment Sunday evening of its much-touted 'first interview with Obama by a major network' while on the highly publicized trip abroad, the reporter who was on the scene doing the interview was none other than Lara Logan.

The irony of it all was almost too good to be true...the perfect example of fawning female mainstream media reporters following Obama around like a bunch of groupies.

Yet Logan did a fairly respectable job, pushing the Junior Senator to explain his plan for more troops in Afghanistan, possibly in Pakistan, and the potential for a greater and greatly expanded war.

In fact, she pushed him hard, and he refused to answer.

Many will no doubt claim that Obama deftly dodged any landmines set by Logan in the interview. But the fact is it was very obvious that he was stonewalling. He simply refused to answer questions concerning the potential for failure in a greater war in Afghanistan, and he certainly would not comment on Pakistan's probable failure in solving the problem of terrorist camps along its border with Afghanistan.

More likely than the fact that Obama was stonewalling is the distinct probability that he simply does not know the answers to the questions.

And it was very obvious.

This means, of course, that perhaps CBS made the right move in putting Logan in charge of the interview. Perhaps it's the first step in the network's redeeming its image in the wake of widespread criticism that it is 'in the tank' for Obama, and perhaps it's Logan's first step in putting a bad chapter behind her and moving onward toward becoming a serious news reporter.

The 'Obamameter'--A Gauge of Political Hysteria

Apparently many of our former friends across the Atlantic in the EU have been overcome with a worse case of mass political hysteria than we find even here at home.

No sooner had Barack Obama announced that he would be visiting Europe, Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Middle East than the bandwagon jumpers in the EU were planning to throw a massive party for the man some in the European media are calling 'the John Kennedy of our time.'

Obama-worship has hit Europe--that land of our forebears where supposedly cooler heads and more rational minds prevail.

Just look at what's being said across the pond of the wannabe rock star who somehow found himself in politics: he represents a new openness to the 'European Way,' his race and color make people feel he is 'more open to multiculturalism,' he is a breath of fresh air because he is against 'Bush's war,' he is 'charismatic' and 'photogenic,' and other such fluffy nonsense that has no more to do with how effective a person can be as President than Hitler's mustache was an effective gauge as to the leader's potential for driving Germany into the ground.

These sorts of irrelevant considerations apparently are more than enough for Europeans to overwhelmingly elect Obama as the U.S. President, if they were allowed to vote here. The only island with a semblance of rationality was Great Britain, which showed a preference for Obama at 49%--high, but still not a majority.

A more telling gauge, however, is inherent in the reaction of Europe to the Obama visit. I call it 'the Obamameter,' and it's a pretty doggone good indicator of the level of political hysteria one finds in Barack Obama's wake.

Hysteria as a medical diagnosis has its basis in an irrational overreaction arising from highly unrealistic expectations.

If ever there were a definition that more perfectly fit a situation than that of hysteria to the Obama phenomenon, it has yet to be found.

A perfect example here in the U.S. is the reaction of the mainstream news media to the Obama candidacy. For instance, all 3 major network news anchors, Katie Couric, Brian Williams, and Charles Gibson will be traveling with Obama on his trip to the Middle East and Europe in order to provide on-the-spot coverage.

When Obama's GOP rival for the Presidency, John McCain, made the same trip not long ago, not a single one of the 'big 3' went along.

Why?

In fact, a major organization that monitors balance and fairness in media coverage of the two candidates has found a terribly lopsided bias in the amount and nature of coverage given to Obama as opposed to McCain.

The Tyndall Report found that since June, the 3 major networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC, spent a total of 114 minutes covering Obama while spending only 48 minutes covering McCain during their nightly news broadcasts.

In addition, a video surfaced not long ago which showed a group of female news reporters on Obama's plane ogling, giggling, and commenting on Obama's rather tight blue-jeans. The display was not only highly unprofessional but indicative of a vocation that has taken leave of its intelligence in lieu of succumbing to hormones and hysteria.

Thus, here in the U.S., the Obamameter has reached the fringes of the dreaded 'red zone,' which indicates that the nature and level of coverage of Obama have gone over the top and out of the normal range into the danger area.

In Europe, however, with news reporters and those within the halls of government gushing forth with accolades for Obama without knowing a thing about his record, his lack of accomplishments, his background, his philosophy, or his ability to lead effectively, the dial on the Obamameter has just about reached its limit in the red danger zone.

Europe may well cause the demise of my little gauge as it explodes under the weight of the irrational.

Tropical Storm Forms Off of South Carolina Coast

Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed off of the South Carolina coast with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour.

The North Carolina port city of Wilmington set a record rainfall total today with just under 3 inches in a 24-hour period.

Cristobal is located approximately 125 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina moving northward. Bands of heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in the South Carolina regions surrounding Myrtle Beach and the North Carolina regions surrounding Wilmington.

For complete information, including warnings, tracking, satellite images, radar, winds, and rainfall projections, go to Weather Underground.

CHILD SEX SCANDAL ROCKS S.C. PAGEANT

The director of the venerable Miss South Carolina beauty pageant has been charged with a felony count of sexually assaulting a child when she was 9 years old.

Joseph Pettigrew Sanders IV of Easley was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with the child in 2005. The child, who is now 11 years old, came forward recently to report the incident that allegedly took place at a local Comfort Inn 3 years ago.

A second suspect, Anita Jordon Gearhart, has also been arrested in connection with the case.

Gearhart is charged with engaging in unlawful conduct with a child.

Sanders has been director of the Miss South Carolina Pageant for a number of years. Interestingly, he was under a federal investigation in 2006 for allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual activity with a pageant contestant.

No charges proceeded from that investigation.

For further information on this still-developing story, click HERE.

Corruption Scandal in Union May Broaden

Bearing in mind that charges and allegations brought against citizens, even public officials, must be proved in a court of law, local news sources in South Carolina report that the corruption scandal in the government of the City of Union may broaden.

Union Mayor Bruce Morgan and city official Jeffrey Lawson have both resigned from their positions under federal indictment for corruption. Both are charged with allegedly engaging in a kickback scheme involving the granting of government contracts.

But law enforcement agents have reportedly disclosed to local news reporters that more indictments may be handed down to other government officials in Union.

And then, there is also the broader issue of who, exactly, paid off these city officials in exchange for being given lucrative government contracts, if in fact the allegations are true.

The Union City Council will hold a special meeting today to determine the best manner to proceed through the crisis.

Mayor Morgan was scheduled to run for re-election in the Fall and was considered to be a shoo-in. With the filing deadline already passed, the Union mayoral race will be an 'open election,' meaning that all candidates will be write-in candidates, and anyone can run. The annual salary of $103,000 is considered a sweet deal that will draw many candidates.

But the City Council is considering a plan to separate the two positions of Mayor and City Administrator, which had been combined under Morgan. This would more than likely mean that the Mayor's salary would be drastically reduced.

Although the special Council meeting is considered open to the public, it will be difficult for local citizens to attend given that the Council has been in Charleston all week at a special conference, some 3 hours away.

The Denver Post has a MUST-read editorial today on 'drill here, drill now'--something that is sure to have Democrats shittin' in their pants (h/t to Michelle Malkin).

Breitbart News Service provides a report on how falling crude oil prices is driving a surge in the stock market.

And now for news from the world of the bizarre. A Mexican sex-slave operation in Asheville, North Carolina has been busted, according to WSPA News Channel 7.

The Revolver vs. Semi-Auto Gun Phenom in D.C.

Fresh from its stinging defeat by the U.S. Supreme Court which struck down its gun ban, the District of Columbia quickly put together a new set of local laws governing the issuing of handgun permits.

Perhaps D.C. should have taken a bit longer to implement those new ordinances.

D.C. has specified that in its massive gun registration drive, which it began Thursday morning, that it would only place revolvers under consideration, not semi-automatic handguns.

But semi-automatic handguns are the most popular guns of choice for the millions of Americans who wish to protect themselves easily, cheaply, and expediently.

Nowhere in the Supreme Court ruling did the justices specify a type of handgun that was 'unacceptable.'

No doubt revolvers are wonderful and have stood the test of time. They are less likely to jam and encounter some of the other problems inherent in semi-automatic models.

But they have definite limitations.

In a home invasion involving multiple perpetrators, the limited firing capacity of a revolver may mean the death of the homeowner. With a semi-automatic, the frantic victim can fire off round after round without having to worry about reloading before the thugs are stopped.

To gunnies I am aware this is beneath elementary stuff. But to those who are not into the whys and wherefores of self-defense, these commonsense facts may be elusive. In other words, when it comes to personal protection and safety, the revolver vs. semi-auto issue is a major consideration.

Supposedly Mr. Heller showed up to apply for his license without bringing his handgun with him. D.C. wants to do 'a ballistics test' on each gun it approves.

But this is beside the point. The point is that D.C. has absolutely no legal basis for which to deny citizens the right to purchase, register, and use the handgun of their choice, whether it be semi-automatic or not.

Liestoppers--Duke U. and 'the Reverend' Jackson

If you like parody, you will love Joan Foster's latest masterpiece at the Liestoppers blog. Foster creates a scenario where Duke University President Brodhead calls a news conference to condemn 'the Reverend' Jessie Jackson for his latest racist remarks.

Remember that it was Duke University and Brodhead that threw the weight of its support behind the false accusations against 3 innocent Duke lacrosse students/players.

A racial divide quickly grew with all of the usual suspects of race-baiters, including 'the Reverend' Jackson and a very vocal, outspoken group of extremist liberal Duke professors.

Liestoppers was the key to unlocking the massive deception and the eventual proclamation of innocence for the 3 students, as well as the taking down of one of the most corrupt public officials to ever serve in office, former Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong.

Joan Foster's insightful commentary, wit, poetry, and creativity were a crucial part of the Liestoppers effort, and now Foster shines once again as she seizes on a golden opportunity to parody yet another sad chapter in the continuing saga of the American race-baiters.

S.C. SHOCKER--UNION MAYOR INDICTED

The small, county-seat town of Union, located in the Upstate of South Carolina, is in a state of shock today as news comes that its mayor, Bruce Morgan, has been indicted on corruption charges.

Mayor Morgan immediately resigned as word came of the indictment.

The town's zoning administrator, Jeffrey Lawson, has also resigned under indictment.

Both men are charged in federal court with accepting kickbacks in return for granting lucrative government contracts to businesses. Since the alleged scheme began in 2007, Morgan and Lawson have reportedly pocketed over $30,000 in kickbacks.

Although Union's population is only 9,000, Morgan's salary as mayor was over $100,000 per year. Morgan had reportedly convinced the Union City Council to fire the city's administrator and combine the job with the mayoral position. This boosted Morgan's salary from just over $6000 per year to over $100,000.

Late Breaking Update on Durham Satanic Sex Case

The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that one of the defendants charged in the bizarre rape-and-abuse Satanic sex case in Durham, North Carolina has had her bail significantly reduced by a Superior Court judge.

A judge ruled late Thursday afternoon that Joy Suzanne Johnson, 3rd Vice-Chair of the Durham County Democratic Party, will have her bail set at $75,000. Johnson's bail was originally set at $300,000.

Johnson is charged with aiding and abetting her husband's alleged scheme to lure unsuspecting couples into bondage and slavery, subjecting them to being caged up like animals, and engaging in physical, emotional, and sexual abuse while depriving them of food and water.

The couple faced their accusers in court earlier in the week as allegations were made of Satanic rituals and channeling demons.

A district court judge ruled that there is probable cause for the case to proceed to trial.

Johnson's husband, Joseph Scott Craig, is charged with 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon, 3 counts of 2nd-degree kidnapping, 2nd-degree rape, and 2nd-degree forcible sexual offense.

BREAKING NEWS: D.C. REJECTS HELLER PERMIT

David Codrea is reporting this afternoon that the District of Columbia has rejected the request of Dick Heller to get a handgun permit.

Heller is the man who brought the initial lawsuit against D.C.'s unconstitutional gun ban, which has been struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Yet when Mr. Heller showed up to register his firearm under D.C.'s new laws (approved just this week), he was summarily rejected. City officials stated that the handgun is a semi-automatic weapon, which most handguns are these days.

The Supreme Court, however, stated in its ruling that American citizens have a right to private gun ownership and that means they also have a right to their weapon of choice for self-defense, the handgun.

The majority opinion never specified wheel guns or semi-automatic handguns, but clearly most handguns sold today are in the semi-automatic category.

Sounds like Mr. Heller has reason to bring another lawsuit against D.C.

Simple Talk on Money Issues--McCain vs. Obama

Here are the facts, folks...simple talk on money issues and how the two Presidential candidates' proposals will effect you in your pocketbook.

Here are the proposals, side by side, McCain vs. Obama. On the basis of these facts alone, Obama should be resoundingly defeated!

CAPITAL GAINS TAX:

MCCAIN: (No Change)
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples)
McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

OBAMA:
Proposes a 28% tax on profit from ALL home sales.

How does this affect you?

If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain
on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to
down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the
profit you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will
adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their
homes as part of their retirement income. EXAMPLE: Buy a home 25 years
ago for$ 60,000.00; sell it when you retire for $250,000.00, pay the
government $53,200.00 in taxes

DIVIDEND TAX:

MCCAIN:
(No Change)
15%

OBAMA:
39.6%

How will this affect you?

If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds,
college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that
pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the
money earned on taxes if Obama become president. The experts predict
that 'higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the
stock market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.

INCOME TAX:

MCCAIN: (No Change)
Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $31,250

OBAMA: (Reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Married making 60K - tax $16,800
Married making 75K - tax $21,000
Married making 125K - tax $38,750

How does this affect you?

Under Obama the lowest wage earners will have their taxes double!
No explanation needed. This is pretty straight forward.

INHERITANCE TAX:

MCCAIN: (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
0%

OBAMA:
Restore the inheritance tax

How does this affect you?

Many families have lost businesses, farms and ranches, and homes that
have been in their families for generations because they could not
afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved
ones will lose them to these taxes.

NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA:
* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square
feet.
* New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)
* New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water,
electricity)
* New taxes on retirement accounts and last but not least....
* New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same
level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

IF YOU WANT "CHANGE"…THIS WILL DO IT.

GUN CONTROL: Chicago Worse Than D.C.?

Apparently the Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, thinks that the city of Chicago may need him to send in the National Guard to 'get the gun problem under control.'

Blagojevich made the statement just after signing a new law requiring tougher penalties for selling guns to minors.

The National Guard?

What on earth is going on in Chicago?

Surely Chicago's gun violence could be no worse than D.C.'s. Yet even after enacting draconian measures--which the Supreme Court recently struck down--to supposedly 'address the problem,' D.C.'s criminal element exhibited absolutely no more reluctance to use guns in crime than they did before the gun ban was enacted.

Chicago has always been a haven for crime and corruption, even within its political machine. But the National Guard?

When an arm of the U.S. Military is sent in to turn on our own civilians, those Guards immediately become jackbooted thugs whose sole purpose is to beat citizens into submission to government.

I have a better idea, Governor. Why not prosecute criminals both in and out of Chicago's government effectively and turn the average citizens loose to exercise their Constitutional right to self-defense with firearms?

Let a few dozen criminals per weekend be shot to death by armed citizens, and perhaps your crime problem in Chicago would abate.

For more information on Blagojevich's outrageous proposal, click HERE.

FRAUD MAY HAVE CREATED RUN ON BANKS

My friends, it is time for us Americans to settle down and stop the panic about the stock market and home mortgages. And here is why.

The whole IndyMac-California-Run-on-Banks mess may have its roots in nothing more than sheer criminal behavior and NOT in any so-called weakness in the markets.

IndyMac has been the subject of a continuing federal investigation into massive mortgage fraud, according to the FBI.

If widespread, such fraud, according to federal officials and economists, could result in the current problems faced by the mortgage giant, such as the federal takeover last Friday and thousands of customers having their accounts frozen.

Of course, it doesn't help matters when a powerful Senate Democrat, Little Chucky Schumer, runs his mouth and creates widespread doubt about the stability of the markets.

The housing market was actually on the rebound until the latest mess occurred, first resulting from Schumer's bad-mouthing American investments, and then resulting from the apparent massive fraud and corruption that was entrenched in the IndyMac system.

There is no reason to believe that underneath the hype concerning IndyMac's woes is a market that isn't beginning to stabilize itself, IF Americans are willing to calm down, take a deep breath, and view their investments as longterm nesteggs rather than 'get rich now' schemes.

Read more about the fraud investigation of IndyMac HERE.

Second Amendment News Roundup for 7/16/08

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

David Codrea's War on Guns informs us that D.C.'s massive gun-registration process will begin in the morning. Registering to exercise a right, huh. Mmmm.

Wow! Just wait till you see what 'Father' Snuffy Pfleger has done now! He's put out a contract on 'gun runners.' Armed and Safe has the story.

Roberta X provides another interesting installment of 'idiots in the news.'

Mike McCarville points to a racial divide in the 2008 Presidential election.

Scott Rasmussen reports some interesting stats in today's Presidential daily tracking poll.

The American Thinker shows us just how wrong the Democrats are on opposing oil drilling here at home.

Gateway Pundit says that the extremist Leftwing site, Moveon.org, has released a dishonest ad, which CNN proceeded to link to and actively promote. Is anyone surprised?

Squeaky posts last night's podcast (well, an hour of it) with Breda on the show, 'Gun Nuts.' Just click on her link to download.

Breda comments on her appearance on the show.

News from the NRA via Dr. John Lott: The NRA has referred to D.C.'s new gun laws as a 'joke.' As reported yesterday, the D.C. Council voted on new laws designed to supposedly comply with SCOTUS but are actually intended to get around the ruling.

Sebastian provides good commentary on the D.C. shenanigans.

(Hat tip to Say Uncle). SailorCurt at Captain of a Crew of One announces the blog reader who won a free trip to Blackwater to train with Todd Jarrett.

The Stiletto has the MUST-read of the day as she posts her periodic 'The Daily Blade,' the subject of which today is 'Satire is Not Slander.'

Eugene Volokh at the Volokh Conspiracy provides good reading on whether or not the Heller decision protects a Constitutional right to self-defense.

ROFL! You have GOT to see this gem (hat tip to Rezkorama). Black Cat Bone has an incredibly funny piece entitled, 'Political Satirists to Barack Osama Hussein bin Laden Obama--Our Job is to Mock Your Arrogant Ass off the World Stage with No Preconditions.'

NewsBusters (hat tip to Rezkorama) reports that the controversy over the cover of The New Yorker is hiding the real story on Barack Obama inside the magazine.

The Gaffney Ledger has a brief update on the South Carolina state's attorney that is using the federal courts to try gun cases instead of state courts because he thinks S.C.'s gun laws are 'too lax.'

He's Still Whining

Obama is still whining. The mainstream media is still whining. Even Larry King is whining.

It was political satire in the richest American tradition--a centuries-old practice in this country. But Barack Obama stated on Larry King last night that it was 'unAmerican.'

Thus, The New Yorker cover continues to make headlines.

The thing that is so funny is that although the cover was meant to lampoon a few on the extreme right who have charged that Barack is a Muslim and Michelle is a terrorist, Obama stated on King's show that 'it is a slap in the face to moderate American Muslims.'

Pray tell, how?

Obviously, the man knows nothing about political satire, although the Left has called him 'one of the smartest men in the world.'

And as for Larry King, he just sits there and allows Barack to show his vast ignorance without challenge.

Top News from the Western Carolinas on 7/16/08

Here are some of the top news stories from the Upstate, mountains, foothills, and Piedmont regions of North and South Carolina:

The South Carolina Governor's Cabinet is considering mandatory water restrictions in the five-county area of Upstate S.C.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies raided in major meth lab in the community of Clifton, resulting in 9 suspects being charged.

A Laurens County property owner shot and killed an 18 year-old intruder in a home invasion.

Two cases of the potentially deadly 'La Crosse' strain of encephalitis have been reported in Western North Carolina.

The salmonella outbreak has now hit the Charlotte, NC area.

Barack 'The Trainwreck Waiting to Happen' Obama

Let's cut to the chase and get right down to the facts, shall we? Obama is a trainwreck waiting to happen, and here are the reasons:

  • On energy policy and the amount you spend on gasoline, Obama would raise the gasoline tax, create a windfall profits tax on oil companies, which they would pass along to you, and mandate the type autos you drive and what you set your thermostat on inside your home.
  • He is against offshore oil drilling to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, against expanded refinery capacity, and against building new refineries.
  • He is against nuclear power, coal, expanding the building of windmills, and halting the rush toward ethanol which has created a world-wide food crisis and astronomical grocery prices.

When it comes to Americans' right to self-defense,

  • Obama voted at least 4 times to criminalize homeowners who used guns to defend their lives and the lives of their families against intruders.
  • He repeatedly stated he was all for the D.C. handgun ban, but when the U.S. Supreme Court struck it down, he said he was 'against it all along.'

When it comes to abortion and infanticide,

  • Obama voted in Illinois to deny medical care to infants that had survived botched abortion attempts.

On the Iraq War,

  • Obama claimed the troop surge was wrong-headed and that we needed to withdraw immediately in 2005, but took down this information from his websites when it became clear the surge is working.
  • He wants to withdraw troops from Iraq but send them to Afghanistan. If the 'war is wrong' in Iraq, then why is it not also 'wrong in Afghanistan?'

On the attack on 9/11 and meeting with terrorist leaders in the Middle East, including Hamas and Hizbollah,

  • Obama claims terrorist groups have a good point to make about why they consider attacking the U.S. is a good idea.

On dividing Jerusalem between Jews and Palestinians,

  • Obama lied to a major Jewish group, stating he was for an undivided Jerusalem under Israeli control,
  • But this week stated that he 'misspoke' and that he continues to support a divided Jerusalem with Jews and Palestinians sharing control of the ancient Jewish city.

On taxes,

  • Obama would need to raise taxes by 300 million dollars to pay for all of his proposals, not counting his desire to raise gasoline taxes and to start a windfall profits tax on oil companies.
  • He has already committed himself to the largest tax increase in U.S. history by opposing the extension of the Bush tax cuts which are set to expire in 2010.

On corruption, scandal, and shady financial dealings,

  • Obama's closest associates all seem to be fringe-element frauds, kooks, and criminals, such as Tony Rezko, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, politicians from the oldest and most corrupt political machine in America (Chicago), Father Michael 'Snuffy' Pfleger who said that gun store owners should be 'snuffed out,' George Soros who has bankrolled his campaign by the millions, and many others.

On Border Security,

  • Obama told La Raza yesterday that our Border Patrol agents are like terrorists.
  • Obama has long supported open borders with complete amnesty for illegal aliens.
  • Obama wants illegal aliens to obtain valid U.S. drivers' licenses.
  • Obama wants to grant special tuition credits for illegal aliens to attend college in the U.S.

Barack Obama is one of the most dangerous politicians ever to rise to prominence in the history of the United States of America. Who in their right mind would trust this man with the Oval Office?

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

David Codrea at War on Guns has several items of interest posted today, the first of which is the fact that David's report on Len Savage in the Olofson case is receiving some widespread attention. And then, David reports some great news on gun rights from Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. Finally, David has an important update from the Olofson family.

Armed and Safe is reporting today that D.C. has no intention of giving up its restrictive measures against handguns, the Supreme Court be damned.

FreedomSight provides further commentary on the D.C. outrage.

John Lott further reports that the vote by the D.C. council on the new gun laws will be TODAY.

Mike McCarville says that the latest poll in Iowa shows Obama way ahead.

The Hill reports that John McCain has outlined his plan on Afghanistan and slammed Barack Obama over his highly flawed statements on Iraq.

Cap'n Bob and the Damsel highly recommend the book Effective Handgun Defense.

Dark Blog says that the effectiveness of the conservative legal movement in minimizing the decades of liberal domination may have been greatly exaggerated.

Gateway Pundit reports that Barack Obama is frantically removing from his websites any former references to 'civil war' in Iraq or that the 'surge will not work.' Well, Mr. Magic-O-Bama, you may run but you cannot hide from your words or your record!

And get THIS one! Gateway Pundit also reports that in a speech yesterday Barack Obama referred to our Border Patrol Agents as 'terrorists.' What a complete bastard.

Sebastian has something here that makes my blood boil. A New York judge has declared that in the state of New York keeping and bearing arms is a privilege granted by state statutes and not a right. BASTARD! Looks like the fun has begun, folks.

Breda has some exciting news. She will be tonight's guest on Ahab and Squeaky's podcast called 'Gun Nuts--the Next Generation.' Congrats, Breda. Click on the link for the info.

Traction Control posts something that should be of grave concern to any gunowner. Barack Obama voted at least four times for legislation that would allow criminal charges to be brought against homeowners who use guns to defend their lives and families.

Mark Steyn unfortunately has ominous news today on his case in British Columbia. An appeal has been filed on the decision of the national Canadian Human Rights Commission to drop charges against him. Commies don't give up easily.

The Western Rifle Shooters Association points to Oleg's new pictorial graphic-editorial on gun rights, and it is an excellent one!

The Rustmeister has an interesting read on guns, beer, and Big Brother.

Say Uncle notes that the Chicago Tribune refused to cover a major pro-gun rally in Chicago last week but is quick to provide complete coverage for anti-gun rallies.

Blogonomicon points to a major scientific report that suggests that the latest trends in solar activity indicate an ice age is coming, not 'global warming.'

The Colorado Model:How Leftists Plan a Takeover

Leftists who now control the Democratic Party in America can point to a successful model which they can use to take over the country.

It is called 'the Colorado Model,' a highly successful experiment involving rich liberals who funnel big bucks into a state to bury the GOP and insure that liberal/Leftist Democrats are elected to office.

So successful the model has been in Colorado that Democrats are considering implementing the same plan nationally.

Contrary to popular perception, liberals are clearly NOT those who 'empathize with the poor' but are elitists who believe the masses should live by a different set of rules than their own.

Most of them are affluent and prescribe a very Spartan manner of living for average citizens while they themselves drive the largest limos and live in mansions, spewing carbon based trash into the air like no 'average citizen.'

They have no intention of giving that up once they force the rest of us into serfdom with limited choices as to how we control our own lives. Had they had honorable intentions they would have already given up the lavish lifestyles.

But Al Gore, Barbra Streisand, Susan Sarandon, and thousands of other rich liberals continue to demand the best of everything the world has to offer while lecturing the rest of us about driving SUVs, running our air conditioning, or even using Albuterol to control asthma--one of the latest casualties of the false 'global warming' hysteria.

One of the worst offenders is Democrat elitist operative George Soros, the billionaire who has pumped multi-millions of dollars into the Democratic Party for the single purpose of first controlling the Party, and then controlling America.

The details of the plan for a national takeover read like a scene from a futuristic science-fiction novel. Barack Obama has even spoken of a large, well-trained 'citizen army' that would not only function along side of the U.S. military but possess all of the equipment to be just as powerful.

So don't look now, but liberal storm troopers may be on the way!

Accusers Confirm Satanic Sex Cult in Durham

The scene was a courtroom in North Carolina yesterday afternoon as the accusers of a top
official in the Durham County Democratic Party had their day in court to formalize their accusations.

A Durham District Court heard the testimony of two persons who have alleged that Durham County Democratic Party 3rd Vice-Chair Joy Suzanne Johnson and her husband ran a Satanic sex cult which forced victims into bizarre. slavery-like conditions, in addition to severe physical and emotional abuse.

One of the accusers, James Frederick Bethard, denied that the couple was simply involved in Wiccan or 'paganism.' Bethard stated, 'It was a Satanic group. We talked at length about Satanism, demons.'

After hearing the testimony the District Judge ruled that the case had probable cause to proceed to trial.

Alphecca says here we go with that global warming thing again...

Gateway Pundit posts the explosive story that Barack Obama admitted to lying to Jewish voters recently in a speech he gave on the Palestinian-Jerusalem situation. In other words, he still supports a divided Jerusalem, half of which would be controlled by the Palestinians. Tell me once again, why is ANYBODY except morons supporting this man for President?!

Sharp As a Marble gives us yet another example of guns mysteriously showing up in 'no gun zones.' Wow, what a surprise.

Well, it looks like McCain is scaring conservatives again, this time on assault weapons. Sebastian reports on the story.

Tam at a View from the Porch blogs on the cult of the split personality.

Michelle Malkin reports that by executive order President Bush has lifted the ban on offshore oil drilling. Good!

And now for a bit of humor. Texas Fred has a little item entitled, 'Top 10 Reasons A Gun is Favored Over a Woman.' Not sure sure I agree with the premise, but it's funny anyways...

My Quote of the Day on McCain and Obama

'It is not so much that I want John McCain to win but that I want so desperately for Barack Obama to lose, and decisively at that.'

--D. Martyn Lloyd-Morgan

Senator Schumer Creates Panic, Run on Banks

The U.S. Federal Reserve has accused 'Little Chucky' Schumer, D-NY, of creating a panic and a run on banks which led to the failure of California's IndyMac, which the Feds took over on Friday to prevent a collapse.

Little Chucky just seems to keep opening his big mouth, creating mayhem each time he opines on a variety of issues, just like always.

Some things never change.

The New York Democrat, now one of the most powerful figures in the Senate, has been very publicly calling attention to IndyMac's potential problems--a scare tactic which the Feds say led to panic and one that can potentially contribute to 150 more bank failures.

The Feds have warned Little Chucky to stop, but to no avail.

As one of the Senate's most liberal Democrats, Schumer is not about to cease contributing to the woes of Americans prior to the November elections. Bad economic news and hard times for citizens is good news for Democrats who wish to pick up more seats in Congress and win the White House.

And as we have seen in numerous occasions in the past, they will stop at nothing to create the most negative circumstances possible just to win elections, such as actively and publicly promoting the idea that America had 'lost' the war in Iraq, as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed even before the troop surge had a chance to work.

As a faithful foot-soldier for the Leftwing wackos, we can count on Little Chucky to do his part to create any negative consequence that could potentially help his Party in November...even to the point of creating a run on banks.

In a related note, the Feds also announced on Sunday that it will bolster the financial standing of its two major mortgage guarantee corporations, FreddieMac and FannieMae.

Stock shares for the two giant mortgage corporations have begun to plunge in recent days, leading to concern on the part of the Feds. The plan is for the Feds to implement a strategy to provide a backstop for the two corporations and stop their plunging stock prices.

It should be noted that today's problems in the U.S. Housing Industry are a result of two terms of the Bill Clinton Administration, which pushed a policy of 'everyone gets qualified' when it comes to obtaining mortgages, whether they could afford it or not.

Thus, FreddieMac and FannieMae were overloaded with home mortgages that could not be sustained by home buyers. Eventually such a strategy was bound to crash as persons of minimal financial resources simply stopped paying their mortgages, leading to widespread foreclosures.

This does NOT mean that America's home market is in deep trouble but that it is correcting itself to a more prudent policy of lending money only to those capable of paying it back.

The home market is actually in very good shape. There has never been a better time to buy with interest rates still low and prices at a 15-year low.

There is absolutely no danger in getting a mortgage if one's financial resources allow a reasonable monthly payment.

The only danger to the market are mouth-off demagogues like Little Chucky Schumer who would ruin America's home and mortgage industry for political gain.

CBS News' Hot, Scandal-Ridden Reporter-Babe

Former swimsuit model and current CBS News reporter Lara Logan has apparently proved to be an embarrassment to a news organization that once took pride in its stature as a 'serious' source of current events.

News has exploded all over the tabloids and even some mainstream media sources that Logan began a series of sexual affairs with various men while serving as CBS News' war correspondent in Iraq.

Logan recently received a promotion from the network to serve as chief correspondent for 'foreign affairs,' interestingly enough, in Washington.

But, according to numerous sources, little did CBS know at the time that one of their rising stars would be implicated in a nasty divorce battle involving one of the men with whom she allegedly had an affair while the bombs flew in Baghdad.

Apparently the attractive young 37-year-old bombshell found Iraq to be the perfect assignment from which to latch onto the men of her choice while they away from their families back home.

Rumors had already surfaced concerning the reporter's sexual liaisons in Iraq when news came out of the blue that the attorney representing the wife of one of the men had named Logan as 'the other woman.'

In addition, it has also been widely reported that Logan is pregnant with the child of one of the men.

Interestingly, Logan has not been on the air on the CBS Evening News since the allegations concerning the pregnancy surfaced.

Disturbing News on Electoral College Estimate

Mike McCarville at The McCarville Report has disturbing news on the latest Electoral College estimates on the Presidential election of 2008.

According to the report issued on the basis of survey data in all 50 states, if the election were held today, Barack Obama would be elected President by an overwhelming Electoral College majority.

Obama would garner 320 electoral votes while John McCain would come in with only 215.

There is a silver lining behind this dark cloud, however. The latest Rasmussen poll taken yesterday shows that John McCain has pulled up into a dead-heat with Obama.

This news comes after months of polling data showing McCain running behind by an average of 5-6 percentage points.

Rasmussen conducts a daily tracking poll of trends in Election '08, and Saturday's poll represents the first time that McCain has polled above 45% since Obama secured the Democratic nomination on June 3.

Perhaps the Obamessiah is beginning to lose some of his political sex appeal.

The Death of Tony Snow, July 12, 2008

We join with many others in mourning the death of Tony Snow, age 53, on Saturday, July 12, 2008.

The former White House Press Secretary and Fox News commentator fell victim to his 3-year battle with colon cancer. As one of the most upbeat and positive human beings one would ever wish to meet, Snow handled his illness with grace and dignity.

Snow served the Bush White House during some of the most tumultuous years of Mr. Bush's Presidency. It seemed that Snow was perfectly cut out for the task, being an unabashed conservative and a Bush loyalist.

Although some faulted him for his fierce defense of White House policy, Snow was faithful to his job description of being an advocate for his employer, the President of the United States, and a friendly, approachable presence before the White House press corps.

As a Christian gentleman, a husband, a father, and a professional, Snow was an outstanding example to young men and women who are contemplating a career in news or politics.

His presence on the national scene will be sorely missed.
