Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:
Here it comes. CNS News and other sources say Obama's pick for Interior Secretary will push for a renewed ban on oil drilling anywhere in the U.S.--including offshore. Yet another broken promise. Why would anyone expect hammerheaded liberals like Obama, Reid, and Pelosi to actually consider drilling, in spite of what they said during an election?
Mike McCarville has a new report on the widespread fear gun owners have of the Obama Administration and what they're doing about it.
J.D. Longstreet at Insight on Freedom writes a powerful essay on this very issue. A must-read!
Texas Fred posts an interesting follow-up to the story of the Fox News reporter who was fired over her 'ambush news reporting' during the campaign of '08. Now she's suing, of course.
The Rustmeister brings us the quote of the day on gun blogging.
Our friend Kurt Hofmann at Armed and Safe has written his first two columns for St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner here and here. Take a look and support him in this endeavor!
Armed and Safe provides all the info on Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day--an important event for gun rights in Illinois.
Roberta X alerts us to a big gun auction taking place TODAY. Take a look!
Say Uncle comments on an ignorant hammerheaded numbskull who blasted one of Codrea's columns on guns.
Codrea's War on Guns reports on the overwhelming response to his recent radio appearance and plugs his latest column at Gun Rights Examiner. Be sure to click on the links.
Pax Parabellum posts an appropriate global warming update for algore and the hysterics mongers. Man, if it gets any 'warmer' out there we're all going to be forced to go buck nekkid.
Days of Our Trailers has a new 'Unorganized Militia' patch prototype he's been developing. Take a look!
Walls of the City blogs on 'the home defense shotgun,' photos included.
Live from the Upper Texas Gulf Coast shows us in stark detail the dangerous views held toward the Constitution by Obama and his brownshirts.
Western Rifle Shooters Association provides complete details on the upcoming Peyton, CO 'Grid Down Medical Course.' Included is a rundown of topics covered, registration, lodging, and contact info.
Tam tells us what she'll do if she goes slap raving nuts and turns all L. Ron Hubbard on us. It's not too bad. I've seen a lot worse.
Nicki has an advanced copy of Obama's Inauguration speech...well, sort of.
Sebastian reports that gun-rights author and attorney Steven Halbrook is testifying against Eric Holder in the Senate confirmation hearings...
Mike Vanderboegh posts an interesting read from a survivalist magazine while waiting for his furnace to be fixed. In this dastardly sub-freezing cold?? I don't want to start no trouble or nothing, but, that's what he gets for being a nasty, ill-tempered, insulting, subversive, and curmudgeonly old man! (Running for cover!).
CarteachO has a highly informative post on cleaning surface rust without damaging the finish on your firearm.
Alphecca provides another timely update on blatant bias in the mainstream media.
Dustin's Gun Blog reports on the 2009 Arizona legislative session which will introduce some legislation involving guns. Take a look.
Everybody's favorite Commie--Venezuelan neanderthal Hugo Chavez--is in deep financial trouble because of the tumble in oil prices. Now he wants help from U.S. oil companies. Sheesh. Dr. John Lott comments...
In her latest column today, Caroline Glick notes that Israel is bracing for very chilly relations with the U.S. once the Obamination takes office.
We conclude the Roundup with today's edition of Obamarama to tickle your funny bone. An Ol' Broad's Ramblings has it.
By the way, you may have noticed that I changed my Liberty Sphere signature to 'Welshman.' Some wondered if maybe the blog had changed hands or something. Nope, it's still me. I have a reason for changing it, which I will share in due time...

ALERT! Russia Renews Cold War Rhetoric
During the 2008 Presidential campaign, both Barack Obama and John McCain stated that there would be 'no new Cold War with Russia.'
But it appears as if we may not have a choice.
Russia has increasingly undertaken actions that are definitely reminiscent of the Cold War, and its new President, Dmitry Medvedev, has seemed to take an even more hardline approach than his predecessor Vladamir Putin.
The country has threatened nuclear attacks if the U.S. places a defensive missile shield in Poland and has defended its blatant act of aggression in its invasion of Georgia.
And, even today, Russian warships are in the Caribbean for joint maneuvers with the navy of Venezuelan Communist dictator Hugo Chavez.
CBS News has a full report on Russia's move toward renewing the Cold War, written by its Moscow corespondent. (H/t to Matt Drudge).

'Socialized Energy'? Venezuela Suffers From It
With all of the talk of the government stake in bank ownership in the U.S. resulting from the struggles in the financial markets, Venezuelan Communist dictator Hugo Chavez stated that 'this proves Socialism (Communism) is the best way, and the U.S. needs a new Constitution.'
Well, now. Let's see how 'socialism' has worked for good ole Hugo, shall we?
It turns out that the Commie overlord can't keep the lights on in his own country!
Yet this is precisely the direction Barack Obama wants the U.S. to take--more government control, greater government stake or ownership in business (fascism), and the resulting economic consequences.
Liberals never learn. Their ultimate goal of ushering in Communism in this country is based upon an idea that is a proven loser all over the world.
Even Chavez presides over a 'third world' country although he is sitting on all that energy. What a 'role model.'

RUSSIAN NUCLEAR WARSHIPS TO VENEZUELA
Breaking news has been received at this hour that Russian nuclear warships are headed to Venezuela.
A nuclear missile cruiser is being accompanied by an anti-submarine destroyer, a reconnaissance vessel, and a support ship, according to a report issued by The Times Online in the U.K.
Venezuelan Communist dictator Hugo Chavez had announced last month that Russia would be engaging in joint military-naval exercises in the Caribbean during the month of November.
But Russia has already sent a warship to the area prior to the deployment of the present envoy of warships.

Russia Sends 2 Bomber-Jets to Venezuela
In a move that is viewed by observers as retaliation for the U.S. sending warships to Georgia to deliver humanitarian aid, 2 Russian bombers landed in Venezuela on Wednesday, according to several news sources, including Breitbart and CNN.
The bombers, Tu-160 strategic jets, are a part of 'training flights' to be conducted over neutral waters in the Caribbean over the next 2 days, according to Russian officials.
However, the landing of the bombers for the purpose of conducting military exercises in the Caribbean must be viewed within the context of Russia's continued threats against the West, the latest of which was issued Wednesday.
Russian officials stated that U.S. missile sights in Poland and the Czech Republic, which are part of the negotiated missile defense shield for the area, would be targets for nuclear attacks by Russia.
Thus, the stated nuclear threats, the landing of the Russian bombers in Venezuela yesterday, and the planned joint military exercises in November planned by Russia and Venezuela in the Caribbean, which will involve 1000 Russian soldiers and at least 4 Russian warships, are all pieces of a puzzle that together paint a dark picture of the re-emergence of the Russian menace as in the days of old during the Cold War.
As we have stated before, this MUST be nipped in the bud and VERY soon, or else the next President is facing something similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis early in John Kennedy's administration in 1961.
We must never allow Russia to gain a foothold in this hemisphere, no matter what. And we must not allow Russia to once again dominate Eastern Europe now that those nations are enjoying beloved liberty following decades of living under the heavy-handed oppression of Russian Communists.
And perhaps it is time for Hugo Chavez to be clipped at the gonads as Ronald Reagan did to Momar Qaddafi of Libya in the early 1980s.

CHAVEZ BRINGS RUSSIAN MENACE TO CARIBBEAN
The top news story of the morning is an ominous one. Hugo Chavez, the Communist dictator of Venezuela, has invited the Russian Navy to undertake a series of military exercises in the Caribbean within the next few months.
According to a report filed by Reuters News Service, several Russian naval ships and up to 1000 Russian soldiers will participate in a joint exercise with Venezuela in the Caribbean from November 10-14.
The move is expected to greatly increase tensions between Russia and the West, particularly in light of the nation's invasion of neighboring country, Georgia.
Since the invasion, several U.S. allies in Europe have expressed grave concerns about their security and have requested the U.S. nuclear defensive missile shield, as well as American warheads.
Russia's response to the request was threatening. At least twice the nation threatened to attack Poland with nuclear warheads should it proceed with plans for the missile shield.
The world community has almost unanimously condemned Russia for its actions and statements.
And with its latest effort to team up with Chavez's communist regime in the Western Hemisphere, the Russian menace continues to thumb its nose at the rest of the world and undertake a military exercise that is clearly designed to send a message to the U.S.
The U.S. is long overdue in sending a clear message right back to Putin, Chavez, and their Commie alliance. To put off sending such a signal, the U.S. and the West is only feeding a growing monster.

Comrades Raul and Hugo Strengthen Ties
When Cuban communist dictator Fidel Castro relinquished control of his regime into the hands of his brother Raul, many speculated that the transfer of power signified a new era of more freedom and fewer restrictions for the Cuban island.
As it turns out, nothing could be further from the truth.
Raul apparently is every bit the Communist hardliner that Fidel was.
Reuters News Service has released an analysis of the relationship between the new Cuban leader and Venezuelan communist dictator Hugo Chavez, and the news isn't good.
The two are quickly forging a stronger alliance as plans are made to team up in oil drilling in the Caribbean, even as the Congress in the U.S. under the Democrats continues to forbid offshore oil drilling by our own country in response to the current crisis in gasoline prices.
Cuba and Venezuela are having a field day in the region while the Americans are forced to live with ridiculous and irrational restrictions placed on our own ability to drill, as prescribed by the environmentalist movement and their mouthpieces in the Democratic Party such as Barack Obama, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.
In addition, Cuba and Venezuela are set to begin laying an under-the-sea cable that will enable the two countries to share Internet access.
Thus, the analysis provided by the mainstream media on the 'moderating influence' of Raul Castro was wrong. One can be judged by the company he keeps, and in Raul's case, Hugo Chavez tells us all we need to know.

Thousands Protest Hugo Chavez in Venezuela
Washington, DC (TLS). In a display of spontaneous open defiance of Communist dictator Hugo Chavez, thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets Monday to protest the shutting down of a television station that had been critical of the Chavez government.
Is this the beginning of the Venezuelans' Tienanmen Square? And will the totalitarian government prevail as it did in China, or this time, will the freedom-fighters succeed in putting a restraint on Chavez's power at the very least, or in a best-case scenario, depose him?
Interestingly enough, the mainstream media did not report the Venezuelan uprising this evening. Of the major television news networks, only Fox provided extensive coverage.
In addition, the Hollywood set that supports the Communist dictator, such as Harry Belafonte and Danny Glover, were strangely silent about the average citizens taking to the streets to protest the squelching of human freedom by the Venezuelan madman.
In video feeds provided by Fox News, government forces could be seen firing tear-gas into the massive crowds. In addition, troops used rubber bullets and shot-guns to fire upon citizens. Yet the protesters refused to budge.
One citizen in particular was seen standing down an armored government vehicle as it attempted to gain closer access to the protesters. The citizen simply took his life into his own hands and stood in the middle of the street, refusing to allow the vehicle to pass.
These brave freedom-fighters need the help of the U.S. We need to help them take Chavez down. And then, rather than arresting Belafonte and Glover for treason, we should simply deport them both to a FREE Venezuela, after Chavez is gone, and let the CITIZENS in that country decide what should be done to them.
The entire world should be made to realize that Belafonte and Glover are supporting a tyrant who not only shut down a television outlet because it dared criticize the madman, but Chavez's actions also put hundreds of television actors out of work.
Thus, the outrage of the free world should be directed not only at Hugo Chavez but at people within the United States who embrace Chavez and his ideology. These are NOT nice people.
