From Billy Beck: 'Hell is the Impossibility of Reason.'
The Stiletto, as always, provides in-depth analysis of the issues of the day, which today includes commentary on the Pelosi-Panetta flap. Read it all.

GOA Issues Urgent Alert on H.R. 297
Washington, DC (TLS). Gun Owners of America (GOA), the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington, has issued an urgent alert concerning the progress of the Dingell-McCarthy Bill (H.R. 297).
GOA says now is the time to contact your Washington representatives to get this bill defeated.
Carolyn McCarthy, the co-sponsor, never saw a gun-grab measure she did not like. And this time, she has managed to bring aboard some unexpected allies, such as a few Republicans and the NRA, which has stated it supports passage of the measure.
However, the bill will prevent millions of law-abiding citizens from purchasing firearms and will add yet one more plank of government control over an individual right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
Read the full story, along with a sample letter to send to your elected officials here:

SWEEPING ANTI-GUN BILL SUBMITTED (Correction)
**This is the corrected version of an earlier post which contained a factual error.**
Washington, DC (TLS). Gun Owners of America (GOA) has issued an alert stating that the long-anticipated anti-gun bill, first proposed by U.S. House Representative Carolyn McCarthy, D-NY, has now been introduced and formally sent to the House Judiciary Committee for debate.
The bill is H.R. 1022--the so-called 'Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007.' H.R. 1022 has 30 co-sponsors who make up the core group of the most virulent strain of anti-Second Amendment thugs in Congress.
GOA has issued an alert to its members, encouraging them to send letters, emails, faxes, and phone calls to Congressmen, strongly urging them to vote against this legislation.
Gun Owners of America has provided complete information, plus sample letters, at the link provided below.
We MUST not allow this rogue Congress to strip Americans of their Constitutional rights. They deserve a decisive defeat on this one--so stinging that they will think twice before introducing similar legislation in the future.

The McCarthy Vendetta Against Guns
Washington, DC (TLS). Who is Carolyn McCarthy? We know she is a Liberal Democrat who represents the 4th Congressional District of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. We also know she relentlessly pursues restricting gun rights with a fervor that is unwavering.
Delving into the background of Rep. McCarthy lends insight into the rationale behind the Congresswoman's desire to rewrite the Constitution by essentially removing any practical right to keep and bear firearms by loading up the U.S. Code with laws that render the 2nd Amendment useless. McCarthy's ex-husband was murdered and her son injured by a gunman who randomly opened fire on passengers of a commuter train on Long Island in 1993. No doubt this is a heart-wrenching tragedy that is only understood by those who have suffered through it.
Yet McCarthy responded to the tragedy, not by introducing strict measures that target and punish criminals, but by unleashing an assault on law-abiding citizens. Rather than target perpetrators her strategy has been to target the general public in an attempt to thwart a few criminals in the process. This strategy is tantamount to outlawing automobiles for law-abiding citizens due to the fact that Muslim extremists use vehicles to murder infidels in the name of the Jihad.
Of course, Americans would never stand for such an assault on their freedom to drive autos, no matter how many deaths and injuries are caused by them each year. And yes, a significant number of these deaths are directly attributable to those who use vehicles as weapons of murder, as we have seen all too often recently in the news in Salt Lake City and Nashville, Tennessee.
McCarthy's misplaced desire to avenge the death of her ex-husband and the injury of her son by making law-abiding citizens pay is the height of irresponsibility. The vast majority of gun owners never use their weapons to fire at a human being. It is estimated that there are over 100 million gun owners in America. Many of these citizens own multiple weapons. We can assume that there are upwards of 200 million guns, at the very least, in America today. Only a small fraction of these are used in committing crimes.
Yet McCarthy has introduced legislation that will vastly expand the provisions of the assault weapons ban that was initially passed by Congress in the early 1990s. In addition, McCarthy has further introduced legislation that circumvents due process of law by denying gun ownership to certain groups of citizens, such as those who for one reason or another find themselves on lists used by airlines to prevent certain persons from boarding aircraft. This provision is part of a bill introduced by McCarthy, H.R. 1167, which also contains these words: 'To amend chapter 44 of title 18, United States Code, to extend the firearm and ammunition prohibitions applicable to convicted felons to those convicted in a foreign court.'
Thus, not only would McCarthy remove your right to keep and bear arms if you happen to get on someone's 'no fly' list, but she would also deny you that right if you are ever convicted of a crime in Libya, or Saudi Arabia, or Somalia.
Liberals have screamed bloody murder for the past six years over the Bush Administration's supposed circumventing of due process of law. Those protests have always had a hollow ring to them, precisely because of proposed legislation such as McCarthy's H.R. 1167.
These people don't give a flying flip about due process of law, except when it can to used to whip one's political opponent.
The bottom line is that this bill is one more example of the attempt by the forces of anti-freedom to gradually remove Constitutional rights from the electorate by targeting specific groups, and then expanding that list of targeted groups to include more and more citizens, such as those convicted of crimes in kangaroo courts overseas.
The day will eventually arrive, therefore, when NO ONE will have the right to keep and bear arms because the list of targeted groups will include just about everyone in the country.
Make no mistake, this IS their ultimate goal.
Americans must not allow an ultra-extremist, rogue representative such as Carolyn McCarthy to dictate firearms laws to the rest of the country because of her inability to deal with grief in an appropriate fashion. Healthy grief involves anger, no doubt. But normally that anger is directed at perpetrators of mayhem and not at innocent, law-abiding citizens. So far, McCarthy has engaged in a haphazard, subtle blaming of innocent citizens by making them pay for what one crazed gunman does.

McCarthy Bill Assaults 2nd Amendment
Washington, DC (TLS). The McCarthy bill, H.R. 1022, which is called the 'Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007,' is an outright assault on the 2nd Amendment rights of American citizens. The Supreme Court ruled in 1938 that military firearms are protected under the 2nd Amendment. Yet since that ruling, liberal politicians and rogue court rulings that ignore legal precedent have launched endless assaults on the Constitutional rights of citizens in the name of 'assault weapons bans' and other such emotionally-tinged nomenclature.
U.S. House Representative Carolyn McCarthy, D-NY, introduced the legislation on February 13, 2007. The Bill was then referred to the House Judiciary Committee that is chaired by an avowed proponent of a handgun ban, Rep. John Conyers, who has been the subject of House investigations in the past revolving around violations of federal campaign laws. We can be assured the gun-grabber Conyers and his cohorts on the Senate Judiciary Committee will do all within their power to put this bill on the fast track in the House.
This bill is one of the most far-reaching and dangerous assaults on the firearms rights of the American people in the history of the Republic. The bill expands the definition of assault weapons to include barrel shrouds for rifles. In fact, the expanded definition profoundly lengthens the list of what would be considered illegal, in spite of the fact that legal precedent holds that these weapons are protected under the provisions of the 2nd Amendment.
Once again, however, the language of the bill refers to hunting, insinuating that this is the only legitimate justification for having a firearm. This has become an all-too-familiar tactic of gun-grabbers who wish to brainwash the public into believing that the only truly legitimate reason for owning a gun is hunting. The 2nd Amendment never mentions it. Nowhere in the Constitution is it even vaguely implied that firearms rights are primarily to protect hunters. The wording is very clear and stark: '...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged.'
Further, the Constitution never makes a distinction between the weapons used by law enforcement as opposed to individual citizens, or between the military and individual citizens. It was assumed until the latter half of the 20th century that any weapon that was legal for law enforcement and the military was legal for the citizens.
The forces of anti-freedom, however, are committed to a revision of the meaning of terms used by the Founders when describing the rights they delineated, which were understood as applicable to all citizens, regardless of any 'granting' of these rights by government. These revisionists would have us believe, in the first place, that the 2nd Amendment does not affirm any individual right, and secondly, that only government can determine what is an individual right and 'grant' that right to the populace.
Such notions were anathema to the Founders of this Republic. The foundational principle affirmed by the Founders in the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution, is that human beings are already endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. This is their birthright as human beings. And no government can legitimately 'grant' those rights or take them away. Government can only affirm the rights that are already inherent to human life. Governments that refuse to affirm those natural rights, or attempt to remove those natural rights from the people, are to be viewed as tyrannical and illegitimate. They are therefore to be overthrown.
No, my friends, this is not the subversive talk of dangerous, head-strong vigilantes who seek to overthrow the government. These are our Founders' own words.
Thus, the attempt of the likes of Carolyn McCarthy, John Conyers, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and others to implement laws that severely restrict individual rights that are inherent to human beings, and affirmed in our Constitution, is nothing short of tyrannical. If this bill is allowed to see the light of day in Congress, then this is cause for recrimination against those who push it.
You can be assured The Liberty Sphere will update its blacklist to include the names of anyone in Congress who votes in favor of this bill.
