Rumors of the McCain Short List

Rumors are swirling around Washington that John McCain has now put together a short list of preferred running mates. Despite quick denials by campaign staff and some political pundits, it is hard to believe that candidates at this stage have not thought about who they would consider for the Number Two position on the ticket.

The long version of the list includes names such as Condi Rice, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, Senator Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, and even Mitt Romney.

Fred Thompson has stated unequivocally that he is not interested in the job.

Interestingly, Mike Huckabee stated on Sunday that he would like to be McCain's running mate. But we doubt that Huckabee would be a top choice, simply because the former Arkansas Governor would not help McCain in areas where he needs it the most.

When the list of potential running mates is narrowed down to those McCain would prefer, and those with whom he would feel most comfortable, one name keeps rising to the surface--Senator Joseph Lieberman.

In spite of being a lifelong Democrat, Lieberman got shafted by his own Party in the last election due to his support of the War in Iraq. Lieberman lost his bid in the Democratic primary to a staunch anti-war Democrat that the DNC desperately wanted to win.

But Lieberman has been around long enough to know a few things about politics in his home state of Connecticut.

Instead of acquiescing to the dictates of Democratic Party bosses, Lieberman ran as an Independent and defeated the Democrat--and the Republican--in a landslide.

Lieberman has also stated that he supports John McCain for President.

The two have worked together in the Senate for many years and are great friends. Insiders state that of all of the potential running mates, Lieberman is the one with whom McCain is most comfortable.

And in choosing Lieberman, McCain would automatically capture more Independents and moderate Democrats, particularly in the wake of the extremist-Left candidacy of Barack Obama.

The problem, however, is that in choosing Lieberman, McCain would most certainly be giving up any hope of gaining the support of the GOP base. Conservatives will not like a McCain-Lieberman ticket at all.

There are a couple of other possibilities on the McCain short list, but given the high priority of putting together a McCain-Lieberman ticket, the other two take second priority. That we will discuss later.

Petraeus, Patriots, Prostitutes, and the Pimp

By all accounts the appearance of General David H. Petraeus before Congress yesterday was nothing less than a three-ring circus. The entire fiasco can be laid directly at the feet of the Democratic leadership who obviously did nothing, or very little, to insure a mature, orderly proceeding.

The embarrassing buffoonery started when Democratic committee chair Ike Skelton refused to listen to GOP warnings about potential disruptions at the hands of pinko anti-war demonstrators.

And disrupt, they did.

But first, we were treated to the highly embarrassing episode of the dead microphones. Neither the General's nor the Ambassador's microphones would work. Perhaps, as one blogger put it, this was perfectly symbolic. The Democrats had no intention of actually listening to the report, since they had already begun attacking it before it was issued.

Once the microphones were working, it was time for the pinkos to protest.

Of course, Rep. Skelton was forced to put on his best 'I am highly offended' face and throw the bums out...but not before they were allowed to heckle General Petraeus and the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.

Perhaps Mr. Skelton believed that these types of made-for-TV demonstrations would somehow help to show Americans that those awful, despicable, war-mongering symbols of America's shame in Iraq returned to Washington only to face a massive outpouring of spontaneous heckling and hatred.

Why else would he allow them entrance to the committee hearing given that he had already been warned that troublemakers were on the prowl?

Yet, it could well be that Skelton's plot backfired. Petraeus appeared calm, steady, and professional under intense pressure. His character had already been impugned before he was allowed to speak a word, yet the General conducted himself with utmost dignity and steadiness.

Congressional Republicans conducted themselves with dignity, patriotism, and maturity as their colleagues in the other Party threw a tantrum.

It was the Democrats who came off looking like desperate, eager opportunists, searching for everything--anything--they could get their hands on to try to discredit the General and the Ambassador.

In fact, they appeared almost as if they were prostitutes, having sold themselves to individuals and entities that have anything but America's best interests at heart.

For example, Moveon.org, the anti-war organization of the Democratic Party, referred to General Petraeus as 'General Betray-Us.' They even bought a full-page ad in the New York Times to say it.

In the ad Moveon also accused Petraeus of 'cooking the books,' lying about the figures, in order to present a positive picture.

Back down at the funny farm in Congress, Democrat Tom Lantos launched into a lengthy Petraeus-bash prior to the General's report, and stated forthrightly about the General's ensuing words, 'I don't buy a word of it.'

U.S. Representative and Republican Presidential hopeful Duncan Hunter, R-California, responded to the attack by reminding the committee that Petraeus had been confirmed unanimously by Congress earlier this year, and that the proceedings should continue only with the stipulation that all would presume that Petraeus would offer 'a candid, independent assessment with integrity.'

Perhaps Hunter's stipulation was a bit too much for the ethically-challenged members of the Democratic leadership. Having sold themselves to the highest bidder, i.e., the anti-war, pinko nutcases of the extremist leftwing, these prostitutes would now sell the nation's soul to them as well.

At this hour, not a single Democratic candidate for President, nor any Democratic member of Congress has denounced, repudiated, or condemned Moveon.org for its blatant disrespect and character assassination of one of the America's most trusted military officials.

Former Democrat and Independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman joined with John McCain in drafting a letter to be sent to the Democratic leadership in the Senate, calling on the Majority Leader to denounce and distance himself and his Party from the Moveon.org ad.

Senator Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, refused.

Of course he refused. When you have sold out like a prostitute, you are forever indebted to the pimp. And in this case the pimp is somewhat elusive but encompasses the Democratic National Committee and those it needs to please in order to get the cash.

But what about the patriots? Where did they stand on yesterday's clown show that was not worthy of a hearing for a General?

John McCain stated that this was a McCarthy-like attack on the character of an American patriot.

Indeed, it was.

Fred Thompson accused Moveon of libel, and stated that the Democratic Party and every single Democratic candidate for President should repudiate the libel of this patriotic American.

We agree. And Mr. Thompson himself is a great American patriot as well.

When David H. Petraeus received his unanimous confirmation by the Congress, he also received the pledges from Congressional Democrats to 'give the surge a chance,' and to 'wait until the report is issued in September before passing judgment.'

It is clear after today's fiasco that the Democrats lied. They had no intention of supporting Petraeus or of giving the surge a chance to work, simply because to do so would ruin their most effective 2008 election tool, i.e., claiming that the War in Iraq is a big mistake and no progress is being made.

And the news today which shows a steep decline in the number of deaths and a dramatic increase in safety and security in sectors that once had been nothing more than death-traps, is not good news for those whose political fortune rests on the failure of America.

But of course, the act of selling oneself to the highest bidder is not an exercise in love for country but a race to see who gets the most cash at the end of the day. I am sure that the pimp will be most pleased.

A Conversation Between John and Hillary

The following is a fictitious encounter. Any slight resemblance to the actual characters is purely intentional.

Setting: A back corridor on Capitol Hill
Characters: John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman

McCain: Uh, Hill, you know, ever since that incident in Europe several years ago, you know, when you and I had that contest to see who could drink the most booze without either giving up or passing out?

Hillary: Yeah, John, I remember the first part of it, but the end of it is a bit fuzzy.

McCain: Well, I don't remember a thing about the end of it, ahem, but that is besides the point.

Hillary: (Laughing) Yeah, you little twerp, I beat the socks off ya!

McCain: (Not laughing) As I said, that is not the point, but maybe, in a way it IS the point.

Hillary: Just what IS your point, John?

McCain: Well, Hill, ever since that time, I have been quite concerned...you know, about your ability to consume a copious amount of alcohol and never miss a beat, until you've had enough to fill the Atlantic Ocean.

Hillary: So I can hold my liquor and you can't! You jealous?

McCain: Hillary, please. I'm trying to be serious here as your friend.

Hillary: Ok, Ok...you think I have a drinking problem, don't you.

McCain: Well, it did cross my mind.

Hillary: And you are just now bringing it up? This must have something to do with that deal I offered you the other day...ya know, you switch over to the Democrats, and I will offer you the opportunity to be my running mate?

McCain: Oh, no no. I'm not too keen on that offer, Hill, as much as I appreciate the thought. I want to be President. I have the experience and the maturity. I would not be interested in being Vice President. I'm just concerned about your health more than anything.

Hillary: (Rolls eyes) Ohhh, John, get over it. I have had a drinking problem on and off. I get help. But sometimes I relapse. You know Bill and me. We both have our problems. When HE relapses, though, he buries his head under the sheets...in a manner of speaking...with the nearest bimbo he can find.

Uncontrolled laughter breaks out among the two.

Hillary: When I relapse I only hide and hibernate for about three or four days, then everything is back to normal. Well, hell, it only happens three or four times a year, I swear.

McCain: Hmmmmm. Well, glad to hear it isn't so bad, after all, Hill. Hey, I have a meeting to attend. Talk to ya later.

McCain: (Walks down the corridor thinking to himself) 'Three or four times per year'...wow...at least four weeks out of the year I will be President, maybe even more! Hmmmm. Making mental note to reconsider that offer.....

Hillary: (Walks in other direction down the corridor thinking to herself) Ha! Now I've got him! Worked like a charm. Now, let's see what that vast freakin' rightwing conspiracy and the rest of the Republicans do with my dream ticket! (Snickers) I STOLE one of their own candidates! What complete clowns!

Hillary bumps into Senator Joe Lieberman.

Lieberman: Oh hi, Hillary, glad I bumped into you. I wanted to tell you that I am seriously considering switching to the Republican Party. They are practically making me an offer I can't refuse.

Hillary: Joe, I trust your judgment. Just carefully think it through before deciding. Now, I gotta run...have one of those damn meetings, ya know.

Hillary mutters to herself as she walks away: Asshole.

Citizen Outrage Restores Sanity to Security Bill

An agreement has been reached between both Houses of Congress on a new security bill that implements most of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. The bill had been in jeopardy due to the Democrats' deletion of a key provision protecting citizens from civil lawsuits when they report potential terrorist activity, such as on airlines.

The so-called 'Flying Imams' who were booted from a U.S. Air flight are attempting to sue the individual citizens on that plane who reported their suspicious behavior.

A key provision in a previous security bill passed by the Republican Congress prior to 2006, however, prevented such a lawsuit from going forward.

Democrats were intent on removing that provision from the new security bill. When the bill was presented before the House, Democrats succeeded in approving the measure without the protection of citizens, over the strenuous objections of House Republicans.

When the bill reached the Senate another major roadblock was set up in its tracks not only by Senate Republicans but also by Senator Joe Lieberman, former Democrat and now Independent Senator from Connecticut.

Lieberman was insistent that any new measure on homeland security contain a provision that protects ordinary citizens from being targets for lawsuits brought by Muslim extremists when those citizens report suspicious activity.

Lieberman was joined by many others, including Republican Representative Peter King, R-NY, to insure that sanity be restored to a bill that purports to make the nation safer. Such a goal is impossible when citizens find themselves in a 'catch 22,' i.e., report suspicious behavior and be sued by Muslim extremists, or remain silent and watch terrorists blow up Fort Dix.

These courageous statesmen were joined by a myriad of voices of outraged citizens who let their voices be heard in Congress. The bloggers, the radio talk shows, and other bands of citizens went to work to inundate Congress with their displeasure over the attempt to make citizens vulnerable when they report possible terrorist activity.

Apparently this time, Congress paid attention.

With the proper protection of citizen watchdogs in place, the new security bill is now set for approval by both the House and the Senate.

But remember who wanted to make citizens vulnerable to being sued by terrorist suspects.

Lieberman Blasts George Soros, Democrats

Senator Joe Lieberman

Washington, DC (TLS). In a poignant interview with NewsMax Magazine, Senator Joe Lieberman, (I-CT) took aim at Democrat billionaire activists George Soros and those who share his disdain for America in the Democratic Party.

Stating that the Democratic Party in America has been usurped by those who carry a decidedly negative view toward America, its history, and its form of government, Lieberman stated that the George Soros influence in the Party is blatantly 'un-American.'

The Liberty Sphere has repeatedly warned about the atheist billionaire who has not only pumped millions of dollars into the Democratic Party and a host of Democratic candidates, but has undertaken a systematic scheme to influence public opinion through the mainstream media, with whom he meets on a regular basis.

During the 2006 election cycle, for example, Soros met with news execs at the major networks to discuss how to bury stories that made Bush look good and emphasize the stories that made him look bad.

Lieberman has a decided disdain for the likes of Soros and expresses deep disappointment in those who not only accept his money but tow his ideological line, such as B. Hussein Obama, John Edwards, and at one time, Hillary Clinton.

For this he was targeted for defeat by his own Party in 2006. But Lieberman showed the elitists and their emperor George Soros that he could not be outfoxed. He ran as an Independent and beat to a pulp the extremist Leftwing pacifist the Democrats put up to run against him.

If ALL Democrats Could Be Like This...

Washington, DC (TLS). Senator Joseph Lieberman, whom the Democrats abandoned during the 2006 election cycle in order to support a fringe-element Leftist anti-war pacifist, has stated in an interview that the U.S. should bomb Iran unless it stops feeding aid to terrorist insurgents in Iran.

If only there were more Democrats like Lieberman...not that Lieberman is a Democrat anymore. He was chased out of the Party by a bunch of extremist nutcases who would rather cow-tow to terrorists than use military force.

The nation needs more statesmen like Lieberman who put national security and honor ahead of personal political gain.
