Good evening, my dear readers, and welcome to another session of Musings After Midnight. I put together these fireside chats on sleepless nights but sometimes post them during the day for your convenience.
So, pull up a chair, have some tea or coffee, and relax. I keep Earl Gray here, along with various brews of the java beans -- always a must for me when I do these things.
The tea and the coffee always seem to make more palatable some of the painful truths I must discuss here.
So, let's dive in and consider the latest.
Several economists have indicated that an ominous threshold was crossed last week, with little fanfare or publicity. In fact, nobody, and I mean nobody noticed. That fact is most unfortunate, given its earth shattering nature. But the fact that it was ignored is now no shocker considering who it is running the government, and who it is charged with the supposed task of being government watchdogs (the mainstream media).
With the failure of the Justice Department of the Obama Administration to hold accountable Jon Corzine of MF Global, and other mega-banks and brokerage firms that broke the law, every single one of us is in danger of having everything we possess stolen with no recourse. The rule of law just went out the window.
Here is the sobering analysis:
"The problem with this decision is rather simple -- it eviscerates the general principle in the law that one cannot grant a thing one does not have.
This is why, if you buy a stolen car, you don't get to keep it when the theft is discovered. You can't be prosecuted for unwittingly buying the car, but the seller has no title to the vehicle to convey, and therefore he conveyed nothing. You thus have no claim to the property.
"Back in 2009 you all sat for this very same sort of violation, because it didn't risk being your money. I'm speaking of the GM and Chrysler bailouts in which senior bondholders, who had a contractual claim on the assets of the company and thus literally owned the property (as a secured interest) were boned for the benefit of the UAW -- that is, their property was stolen.
"The courts allowed it.
"Now it has happened here with Sentinel, but this is not news; it is merely continuation of what began, and what you, the people, allowed to occur without retribution or recompense.
"This morning we find that it's likely that those who were involved in the theft of customer funds at MF Global, including Corzine himself, are likely to not face criminal charges. And why not? That's just an extension of the Sentinel decision.
The problem, of course, is that once you ignore property rights then you've ignored them. It's the principle of the thing more than the details; whether you get personally boned with "this" particular violation isn't the question. Rather, the question is this, for each and every one of you:
"'What assurance do you have that any property of yours that is not in your personal, immediate and physical possession, is actually protected by the rule of law if someone attempts to steal it?'
"The answer? You have none.
"Let that sink in folks, because it does not just apply to futures traders, to people daytrading stocks, or even to people with 401ks and IRAs. It applies to each and every one of us with a bank account.
"That's right folks -- it applies to anyone with any property held by any person other than you, in your personal control within reach of your fingers. If it is stolen by a wealthy and powerful person they will be found to have conveyed it "within the law" and you will not get your property back."
Those are the words of market guru Karl Denninger.
Thus, the lawless thuggery only continues. The very same scenario that existed prior to the collapse of 2008 still exists now. No one has been called to accountability, mainly due to the fact that the perpetrators were in bed with the federal government, and they still are. Most of Obama's top advisers in the economic realm came from none other than Goldman-Sachs.
It is thus very difficult to believe that a mere change in the White House will lead to real reforms. Too many other factors are in place that would mean Romney and Ryan are essentially hamstrung on day one. Yes, there are some other things they can do--cut spending, end ObamaCare, reform the tax code, etc., etc., but unless Congress gets involved to stop the fascist-styled collaboration between government and large corporations, then the thuggery will only continue, and citizens will only continue to be robbed of their wealth.
What this means is that without drastic and painful action on the part of the next administration and Congress, we may experience complete economic collapse anyway, no matter who is in government. In other words, if what Denninger is saying above is true, and I believe it is, then the "ship has already sailed out of the port," that is, it is too late to avoid a catastrophic economic crisis of historic proportions.
This means your bank accounts are vulnerable. Your retirement and pension accounts are vulnerable. Your investments, even "secured" ones, are vulnerable. Everything except what you can hold in your hand and have in your physical possession is subject to confiscation and/or outright robbery.
I am optimistic enough, however, to hang on to a modicum of hope. If Romney will allow Ron Paul to go to work on the Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and the economy in general, there is chance we can get it together and avoid catastrophe.
The thing I like about Ron Paul's view of the debt is that when asked about the gargantuan amount of money the U.S. has borrow from China, he stated, "Just don't pay it back. Ever."
Here's why that may be a prudent option. China cheats the U.S. anyway in trade policy. Their goods are produced with slave labor at a tiny fraction of the labor costs of the U.S. and free nations. Yet we have allowed them to dictate trade terms. It would seem to be an even trade to simply tell them, "You won't be getting your money back. That is your payment to us for being allowed to sell your goods here at such a low cost and using labor practices that are deplorable."
And then, from there we must tell the ChiComs that from now on there will be "fair trade" that is mutually beneficial and where one nation doesn't have the upper hand over the other. The so-called "free trade" we have practiced with the Chinese in the past is actually "dirty trade." And we as Americans have gotten the shaft. That should end NOW.
Now, on to the political realm.
A reader asked me recently how I can hint that I would support the Romney-Ryan ticket after they tried to pull a fast one at the RNC concerning the rules. I answered that my main goal at this point is to get rid of Barack Obama. And the best way to do that, unfortunately, is to support Romney.
I have never liked Mitt Romney. I did not like his father, either. But this is the hand we have been dealt, and we must play that hand.
Earlier in another episode of Musings After Midnight I was very candid with you about my dilemma about the election, given that it had become clear to me three months ago that Romney would get the Republican nomination. I had worked VERY hard to prevent him from getting it. I even considered a third party, or writing in a candidate. But as I stated at the time it appeared to me that no one on the horizon had a chance of getting enough votes to make a dent in the process, except to siphon enough votes away from the Republican to insure Obama's reelection.
That I CANNOT tolerate.
I still believe that the GOP needs to be taught a hard lesson. RINOS must go. I have had it with the "moderate" eastern establishment leadership machine in the GOP. I have no respect for Dick Lugar, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski, Scott Brown, and several others. I realize some of these are retiring, but you see my point. This crowd will attempt to thwart conservatives at every turn. They must be taught a lesson.
But not this year.
This year too much is at stake to teach the GOP a lesson by throwing the election to Democrats. If we do that, we are essentially insuring civil war in 2013 and sealing the permanent demise of the Republic. I am convinced that another term of Barack Obama will seal our fate, insuring civil war and the destruction of this nation as we know it.
I will not be part of any movement that makes it more likely that Obama will be reelected. And at present it is clear that this is precisely what will happen if I advance a cause and candidacy that will do nothing but pull votes away from Romney-Ryan.
My view is that we must get rid of Obama first. Then, later we go to work getting rid of the RINOS, maybe in 2016 or 2020.
The next thing I wish to discuss with you are the conspiracy theories.
In my last installment of Musings After Midnight I told you that I would not allow this site to be used as a forum to rehash the totally discredited fantasies that 9/11 was an inside job or that the OKC bombing was the work of Muslim terrorists rather than Timothy McVeigh. Real conspiracies are serious enough without diluting the attention they deserve by focusing on wild charges that have no basis in fact.
But, as I knew would happen, several sent their diatribes anyway, after I had already stated they would not be posted.
Despite the insults some of you sent my way, I can assure you I have thoroughly considered every single one of the conspiracy theories that you claimed I knew nothing about. Each of them, in my mind, has been thoroughly debunked. That includes theories on 9/11, OKC, the Bilderberg Group, the Rothschild family, and my favorite deranged fiction of all--Israel and the Jews are behind everything evil in the world.
Such things are the convoluted, psychotic rantings of lunatics.
But what I DID discover was that the Council on Foreign Relations represents a conspiracy that is very real and very dangerous.
Thus, I am not anti-conspiracy theory. But I want to be sure that the conspiracy is very real and credible before I go off half cocked on some fishing expedition.
If you want to discover real danger by a real conspiracy, even to the point of holding the U.S. government hostage, look no further than the CFR. Do your research. And don't look at just who belongs to it. Some are there who have no power. Rather, look at who sits on CFR's most powerful committees. There you will find the power brokers. And remember, some very important people are not there anymore but lurk in the background. Some whose names are not on the current roster are no less involved than they were when they were formal members.
And that, my friends, should be enough for you to chew on for a while. So, until next time, keep the faith.

Justice Department launches ad campaign
For the first time in the history of the agency, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an ad campaign featuring a sitting attorney general speaking to Americans about the need to protect endangered children.
This reporter saw the ad for the first time last evening.

Republican platform contains strong statement on Fast and Furious
The Hill is reporting today that the Republican Party platform that was forged Tuesday at the Republican National Convention in Tampa contains a strong statement on the Fast and Furious scandal.
Delegates to the convention adopted a sharply worded statement placing the blame for the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, plus the deaths of hundreds of others, squarely at the feet of the Obama administration.

OIG report on Fast and Furious '10 times worse' than expected
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued a draft of his report on the Fast and Furious scandal, which is now being poured over by DOJ officials who have 30 days to provide feedback.
One source who has seen the report told National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea that the report is "10 times worse" than expected.
Although few details have been forthcoming concerning the report, leaks from DOJ have indicated that the OIG identifies the Phoenix Field Division of the ATF as the source for much of the scandal. The leaks have led field agents to express the fear that they will be forced to take the brunt of the blame in the scandal.

Veterans quietly forced into mental hospitals
A new report suggests that since 2009 U.S. veterans are being quietly forced into mental hospitals across the country where they are committed against their will and detained indefinitely.
The report by Susanne Posel, which was published Monday, indicates that increasingly the U.S. government is designating veterans who return home from service overseas as mentally unfit. Their firearms are then confiscated, and they are forced into psychiatric facilities to receive treatment for conditions as common and non-threatening as post traumatic stress.

Republican chances of winning Senate improving
Three reports issued today indicate that Republican chances of winning the U.S. Senate are improving. According to the reports, the odds of a GOP takeover are now better than even.
Republicans were disheartened after Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin's untimely misstatements on rape and abortion changed the complexion of the race. The incumbent, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., pulled ahead of Akin in what was supposed to be slam dunk against the beleaguered senator.
But the news for Republicans vastly improved with the release of three reports today showing that in spite of a looming loss in Missouri, the Party stands a good chance at picking up enough seats to win the Senate -- better than the even odds predicted a month ago by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Source says government ammo purchase story a disinformation campaign
New information has been received indicating that the widely circulated story concerning a massive ammunition purchase by various civilian agencies of the federal government is part of a disinformation campaign designed to "smoke out" citizens who fear that the government is gearing up for a confrontation with the public.
The source is a trusted, well-placed informant who has significant contacts with government personnel and who has access to records which cast doubt on the story that the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security bought over 1.2 billion rounds of deadly hollow point ammo.

Just a personal word...
Hey, folks, just a personal word here.
I'm sure you've noticed that the 2A News Roundup was not presented this week at all. My sincere apologies for that, but it could not be helped. This is one of those weeks I had to do the bare minimum (my Examiner articles) for reasons I have told you about before.
Thankfully this time things do not appear to be bad enough to warrant this going on much longer. So I expect to have the Roundup section back up and running next week...if not Monday, then definitely Tuesday.
Thank you for dropping by these pages on a regular basis. I do sincerely appreciate it. And although my little blog here never did really make the "big time" like some others, never in my wildest dreams when I started in 2006 would I have thought I would be able to draw in 400 to 800 readers per day...not a bad following for an obscure little blog that I wrote using a pen name for the first 3 years of its existence.
I'm sorry to have fooled most of you into thinking I was "D. Martyn Lloyd-Morgan," but heck, I was new to this and I had been told by other bloggers never to use your real name, that anonymity was essential.
All of that changed when I started writing for the Examiner, which required a real name at the time.
But most of you who blogged in the early years of the phenomenon understand what I'm talking about, I think.
Anyway, take care, and please remember how much I appreciate you as readers. Some of you have become very dear to me, and I thank you.

Massive govt ammo purchases spawn new theory
When it was disclosed by various reporters in the alternative press that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other agencies of the federal government had purchased enough hollow point ammunition to pump five rounds into every single American citizen, many turned to the task of attempting to pinpoint a motive for the purchases.
Why would non-military government agencies need such a huge amount of ammo? And why would non-law enforcement agencies such as the Department of Education and the Social Security Administration need deadly bullets that are designed specifically not only to inflict as much internal bodily damage as possible but to kill?
Rational minds have legitimate concerns about government possessing such massive fire power, particularly at a time in American history when the advocates of centralized government control openly call for the end of gun rights for citizens and the repeal of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
However, the less than reputable musings of the conspiracy theorists also kick into high gear, postulating all sorts of explanations for the ammo that defy all logic and that lead the vast majority of citizens to roll their eyes in disbelief....

Controversial pastor cancels presidential forum
A controversial pastor who heads what is perhaps the largest Southern Baptist congregation in the world announced Wednesday that he has cancelled his recurrent "presidential forum" which he hosts at the church during presidential election years.
The Rev. Rick Warren of the Saddleback Community Church near Los Angeles, which is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, says he holds the forums so that members can hear a discussion of the issues "in a civil manner" from persons whose views are widely divergent.
In 2008, Warren hosted a forum that featured U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who answered questions posed by Warren in their respective campaigns to win the U.S. presidency.

Democrats show signs of election year stress
Although the mainstream media has attempted to play up peripheral issues that distract from the concerns of most voters, Democrats are beginning to show signs of election year stress as it gradually becomes clear that most of the circumstances are stacking up against them.
While the mainstream media and liberals focus on the misstatements made by pro-life Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, voters have indicated in numerous polls that abortion rights and pro-life issues barely register on their radar screen in terms of priorities this election year. Americans are most worried about the economy, jobs, the national debt, and out-of-control government spending. These very issues are the ones about which President Obama does very poorly in voter surveys.

Drama brewing at the GOP convention
On several fronts drama is brewing for next week's Republican National Convention in Tampa.
In February the talk centered on the distinct possibility of a brokered convention, with no candidate having reached the required number of delegates. Such a scenario would throw the convention into high drama with no guarantee as to who would emerge the winner.
Such a scenario fizzled, however, when Mitt Romney surpassed the minimum number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul suspended their campaigns.

If you've ever fallen for someone you could not shake from your mind...
And now for something a bit different.
If you have ever fallen for someone you could not shake from your mind, or "get over," or forget, this song says it all.
Smearing conservatives brings in the big bucks
A report issued today by Matthew Vadum indicates that liberal activist groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) rake in the big bucks each time they smear conservatives in the press.
In recent years conservatives have often complained about the smears and outright character assassinations that liberals level against them, particularly when there is a mass shooting.
Conservatives have often noted that even before the the police arrive at the crime scene, the mainstream media machine has already created and published a narrative that the shooter must surely be part of the tea party or associated with a nationally known conservative such as Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, or Sean Hannity.

Feds' explanation of hollow point bullets raises more questions
News reports indicating that multiple agencies of the federal government have ordered and are stockpiling multimillions of rounds of ammunition has pressured the Feds to offer an explanation. But the official explanation has only raised more questions.
On Friday the government stated that the hollow point bullets it has procured are "standard issue" and that they are used to train security agents used by each of the various federal agencies.
However, according to retired Maj. Gen. Jerry Curry, a decorated Army war veteran, the Feds' explanation about the bullets fails to pass the smell test.

Agents mull ATF name change amid bad press
Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) are responding to a suggested name change for the agency by the top brass in Washington. Along with the name change may come a change in duties and function, according to comments made by ATF agents Wednesday.
ATF Acting Director B. Todd Jones told the Wall Street Journal that given the enormous amount of bad press the agency has received in the wake of the Fast and Furious scandal, a name change may be in order. The "rebranding" would further signal a shift in the agency's duties and function.
But the agents who participate anonymously in an online forum called CleanUpATF.org expressed deep skepticism toward the idea. One agent stated Wednesday, "We are at a loss for words. Go home, Mr. Jones."

Cornell law professor blasts Southern Poverty Law Center for stirring hate
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) of Montgomery, Alabama was first established decades ago to combat the Ku Klux Klan and racism in general through its work in helping impoverished blacks fight discrimination. In recent years, however, SPLC has exhibited a tendency to label anyone or any group that disagrees with them as "racist" or a "hate group," says a Cornell Law School professor.
William A. Jacobson, an associate clinical professor at Cornell Law School, stated Wednesday in a piece written for Legal Insurrection that SPLC attempts to cut off debate and quell the free expression of ideas by labeling its political opponents as "hate groups."
And it so happens that conservatives and conservative organizations are the ones SPLC targets on a regular basis.

More federal agencies buy multithousands of rounds of ammo
A news report today indicates that the Social Security Administration has purchased 174,000 rounds of ammunition, adding the agency to a growing list of federal agencies that have purchased multithousands of rounds of ammo over the last six months.
The type of ammunition government agencies are buying is troublesome to many observers. The agencies have purchased hollow point bullets which are designed to expand once they enter their target in order to do the most damage to the victim.
Not only has the Social Security Administration purchased multithousands of rounds of hollow point bullets but so have the Department of Homeland Security and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Sources have further indicated that hollow point bullets by the thousands have been delivered to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services, among others.
The official explanation for the ammunition is preparation for the possibility of civil unrest during a national emergency, such as a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, or a complete economic collapse.
Observers say that the growing specter of a complete economic collapse is the one thing that is most responsible for this unprecedented effort toward preparation on the part of multiple government agencies.
A few observers, however, see a much more ominous motivation behind the mass purchase of ammo.

Gov. Perry claims Second Amendment a 'states' rights' issue
In the aftermath of Monday's shooting near Texas A&M University, Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, told Fox News that the Second Amendment is a "states' rights" issue that each state should be able to decide for itself, according to Politico.
Perry made the statement in answer to a question concerning whether or not Texas would seek to implement tighter gun control laws as a consequence of the shooting that left three persons dead.
According to American Thinker,
Governor Rick Perry quickly responded by laying out his defense of gun rights. "When it gets back to this issue of taking guns away from law-abiding citizens, and somehow know that's going to make the country safer, it's just that I don't agree with that," he told Fox News. "I think most people in Texas certainly don't agree with that, and that is a state-by-state issue, frankly, that should be decided in the states and not again a rush to Washington, D.C., to centralize the decision-making." And a majority of Texans, he offers, "believe that law-abiding citizens should be able to have their weapons."
The problem with Gov. Perry's statement, however, is that the Bill of Rights was never intended as a states' rights issue that is to be left up to the discretion of each state.

Document shows Council on Foreign Relations plan to limit U.S. sovereignty
On Sunday a news report published at the Examiner indicated that there are heightened suspicions that the U.S. government is essentially being held hostage by a powerful global consortium of politicians, government bureaucrats, large banking moguls, university professors, and members of the mainstream media.
That powerful global consortium was identified by a trusted source as the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), although no de facto proof could be offered to support the claim other than a mountain of circumstantial evidence.
Today this reporter received information from 2008 that was not made available to the public indicating that the CFR has a written plan to advance "global governance," placing restrictions on the national sovereignty of the United States and other nations and implementing broad international laws that govern the internal affairs of the countries of the world in areas such as homeland security, climate change, terrorism, and economic policy.

Series of events raises questions about constitutional authority
On Friday this reporter interviewed a research analyst for retired Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely's Stand Up America organization which delves into behind the scenes stories that are hidden and overshadowed by the major news headlines.
In addition to serving his country as one of the top officers of the U.S. Army, Vallely is the former senior military analyst for Fox News. At present his organization employs the talents of various researchers who investigate the real truth that often lurks beneath misleading headlines and news stories.
One of those researchers, Denise Simon, spoke with this reporter about issues related to a recent series of unusual occurrences in the U.S. government that led to serious questions regarding constitutional authority, the rule of law, and the subversion of that law and authority by shadowy figures both inside and outside of government.
In order to understand the conversation with Simon within its context, a bit of background is necessary.

Romney opts for substance over style with Ryan pick
In a move that some observers had already predicted but that took others by surprise, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as his vice presidential running mate today.
Although Ryan has a certain charismatic style and appeal all his own, most political observers note that in choosing Ryan, Romney has opted for substance over style. Ryan is known primarily as a policy geek, famous for his so-called "Ryan Plan" that he introduced earlier this year in which he calls for a complete overhaul of federal spending that reduces the size of government.

Concern spreads over colonel's scenario of crushing a tea party insurgency
On Sunday a news report filed by this reporter focused on a training tool used by retired U.S. Army Col. Kevin Benson which features a fictitious scenario involving the crushing of a tea party insurgency in Darlington, S.C.
The scenario, and the news report about it, created a firestorm of controversy across the country that was not reported in the mainstream media.
Concern continues to spread today, however, as a major conservative media outlet, PJTV, produced a video Thursday outlining the multiple problems inherent with the colonel's scenario.

Ginsburg confirms she originally wrote dissent in ObamaCare case
In an interview with Reuters Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg confirmed earlier reports that she had originally written a dissenting opinion in the ObamaCare case in which Chief Justice John Roberts stunned conservatives and liberals alike by siding with the court's liberals in upholding the law.
This reporter had noted in an earlier article just after the ruling that Justice Antonin Scalia's dissent at times read like the majority opinion, particularly in the manner in which it makes reference to Ginsburg's remarks as if they are the dissenting opinion, the point being that right up until a few days before the ruling was issued Roberts was apparently set to rule with the conservatives.
At the time of the court's decision this reporter stated that it had become clear that Roberts had changed his mind within the three or four days prior to the ruling.

Libertarian says third parties will not impact presidential race
Libertarian activist and stock market analyst Karl Denninger stated today that despite early indications that conservative voters might split their support between Romney and a third party candidate, thus tipping the election to Obama, the reality is that during this election cycle third parties will have little or no impact on the presidential race.
Denninger also maintains that Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson is largely to blame for the failure of a viable third party bid.
The reasoning for Denninger's assertions goes to the heart of the process of political tracking polls.

Obama classmate blows lid off of scandalous secrets
Critics of the so-called "birthers" who believe that President Obama was not born in Hawaii and thus is not a U.S. citizens often point to the most outlandish of the allegations against the president by persons of questionable repute. And suppose at least some of that person's allegations are supported by dozens of others not only whose credibility is fully reliable but who can provide a significant body of evidence to support those allegations?

In order to settle an ongoing dispute with the Obama administration over the materials used to make its world famous musical instruments, Gibson Guitars has agreed to settle with the Justice Department by paying a fine of $300,000.

A retired U.S. Army colonel who now teaches modern warfare to soldiers at the University of Foreign Military and Cultural Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas has co-written an article with a Civil War expert that has ignited a firestorm today among those increasingly concerned about what some say is a distinct anti-civilian tone that has infected much of the military and Homeland Security since 2009.

Congressmen invite Chick-fil-A to open restaurants in their districts
In a move designed to counter the suggestion by the mayors of Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco that the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain be disallowed from locating in their cities, a group of congressmen drafted a letter to the chain Friday, inviting Chick-fil-A to open restaurants in their districts.
The mayors in question suggested that Chick-fil-A is not welcome in their cities due to statements made by the company's president Dan Cathy that he supports the "Biblical view of marriage" between and man and a woman.

Agents say 'DOJ is hanging ATF out to dry' in Fast and Furious
Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) who post anonymously on their special complaint forum at CleanUpATF.org are claiming today that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is hanging the ATF out to dry in the Fast and Furious scandal.
At issue is the special congressional report released Monday by U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., that names five top ATF officials as perpetrators in the scandal but fails to mention top level DOJ officials who likely ordered the entire scheme.
In fairness to Grassley and Issa, however, only part one of the final report has been released. Two more sections are to be released shortly. The other two sections are expected to include officials in the DOJ due to the deep level of involvement of Attorney General Eric Holder in the scandal.

'White House fingerprints all over' final Fast and Furious report
On Monday of this week the final congressional report on the Fast and Furious scandal was released to the public. The report is in three parts, two of which have not yet been released. Part One alone contains 211 pages of information.
Now that reporters have had the chance to sift through the information contained in the report, a central fact has come into clear focus today. To quote one of the original reporters who first broke the Fast and Furious story in December of 2010, Mike Vanderboegh, "...the fingerprints of the White House are certainly all over Part One of the report..."
The key piece of information leading to Vanderboegh's observation is the fact that in the congressional report it is clear that Kevin O'Reilly is a key figure in the entire fiasco that has implicated many of the top officials in the Obama administration in at least three Cabinet level agencies.

Issa ignores original reporters in release of final Fast and Furious report
Congressional Republicans on Monday released their official report on the Fast and Furious scandal which concluded that five top ATF officials and their supervisors in the Department of Justice, including the attorney general himself, are culpable in the scheme which placed 2,500 guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.
The full Congressional report can be accessed here.
The choices made by the Congressional leadership of the specific news outlets that would break the story of the report, however, exclude the original reporters who first discovered, investigated, and then broke the story in December of 2010. These reporters also relentlessly badgered Congress into investigating the scandal when there was little desire to do so.

Musings After Midnight--With All of THIS Going On, It's Enough to Make a Normal Person Become a Conspiracy Theorist
Good evening, my friends, and here we are again for another evening of Musings After Midnight. Welcome.
This evening I thought I would present some thoughts for your consideration that may well bother you, and, to be frank, that bother me. Nonetheless, there is a certain price to be paid for being fully awake and aware, cognizant of the dangers we face in this age, and in full possession of the facts.
An old professor of mine used to say, "The price of a real education, and the realism it entails, is a certain measure of existential angst."
And another person I knew, a psychiatrist with whom I worked closely in mental health chaplaincy, once told me, "In a certain sense, the depressed person is the one who is fully aware and fully realistic. They have looked into the abyss of modern existence and come to the honest conclusion that things don't look very good."
While I do not consider myself to be totally cynical or perpetually hopeless, there are those times when I admit that the present situation in the country, and in the world, does not look good and lends itself to a certain degree of healthy skepticism, which can lead me at times to suffer for a few days in my "existential angst."
But, being a Christian I cannot allow myself to stay there for long. I do believe that things can change even when they appear insurmountably hopeless. So, there is hope. I am the first to admit, however, that such hope is at times very difficult to come by except for that hope that comes from the promises of God, many of which are not fulfilled in this life but the next.
Be that as it may, my assessment at present is that the situation in America and the world is dire. That is just the plain truth, and I would be derelict in my duty if I did not tell you this truth, and I would be lying to myself if I did not admit it.
Several events over the past few weeks have been for me such a disappointment, and frankly, such an unexpected twist, that I have considered things that before now I would not allow myself to entertain in my mind. I have never considered myself to be a conspiracy theorist nor adhered to what I consider to be the more outlandish of these theories, which to me push the envelope of sanity.
And while I still find some of these conspiracy theories to be beyond the pale, I have been forced of late to take a new look at the subject of political conspiracy from the standpoint of the current climate in the U.S. today and some of the behaviors and statements of people that I thought knew better but for some reason have thrown their weight behind the ideology of the present leadership structure in Washington as represented by the current occupant of the White House and the Democratic leadership in the U.S. Senate.
First, in spite of the overwhelming opposition of the American people, a laughably bumbling defense before the Supreme Court by Administration attorneys, and the near unanimous consensus among conservatives and Constitutional originalists that ObamaCare is not only unconstitutional but a horrid joke, the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, who claims to be an originalist, ruled in favor of the law against all odds and in the face of simple logic and rationality. Not only did he damage the reputation of the Court but he probably permanently damaged his own reputation as a jurist by making such a flimsy argument in favor of the healthcare law.
Roberts stated that it is not up to him to correct the political choices of the electorate. While there is some modicum of truth to that statement, it IS his responsibility to decide if the laws passed by the "political choices of the electorate" pass the constitutional muster.
But I have already written extensively about the Roberts ruling and its indefensible disregard for the Constitution, mainly in that although the Chief Justice says the Commerce Clause cannot be used to force citizens to make purchases, that is precisely what he decided that Congress has the power to do. It does not matter that Roberts reached into thin air to call it a tax. The fact is, Commerce Clause or not, Congress now has the power to force Americans to make purchases against their will, and if they don't they can be punished by the IRS.
This is the type of doublespeak we have come to expect from the Obama Administration. Keep this in mind as we go forward.
Second, although the U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly with bipartisan support to repeal ObamaCare, the House leadership stated last week that it intends to fully fund the healthcare initiative. This they have done without input from the members, the rank and file Republicans who form the majority.
Here again, doublespeak and a vast disconnect. One day the House leadership supports the repeal of ObamaCare. The next day the House leadership says it will fully fund ObamaCare although they just voted to repeal it.
What the hell gives here?
And to be specific, here I am talking about the House leadership only and not most Republicans in the House. This means specifically Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy.
If the vote in the House was to repeal ObamaCare, then wouldn't it naturally follow that the ones who voted in favor of the repeal would also vote against funding the very law they abhor?
Odd. Very odd.
Third, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia wades into the gun control controversy by suggesting in an interview on Fox with Chris Wallace that the Court may well issue restrictions on the gun rights of citizens. Only days before, Barack Obama stated that he wants to ban so-called "assault weapons" by quipping that "AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers and not criminals," no matter that soldiers do not use AK-47s and the overwhelming majority of citizens who own them are not criminals. If criminals have them, they got them illegally off the street since it is illegal for criminals to have them.
So why would a conservative Supreme Court justice offer commentary on the issue in the aftermath of the Colorado shooting only days after Obama calls for more gun control and a gun ban?
I know that Scalia has suggested in the past that he believes there are "reasonable restrictions' on the Second Amendment--a statement with which I strongly disagree. But the fact is he WAS one of the YES votes over the past few years when the Supreme Court affirmed the individual right to own guns, including handguns, and when the Court struck down gun control laws in D.C.
I simply find it odd that he would insert himself into this issue at the present time. Why now? What does he know that's coming down the pike which suggests that Americans should brace themselves for more gun control, in spite of the fact that literally hundreds of laws already on the books restrict the scope of the Second Amendment?
In my view there has been a most disturbing trend over the past four years among the opposition to the current Administration to roll over and play dead in the face of the most overt, barefaced onslaught against our liberties in the history of this Republic. The Republican leadership in the House has been wimpy at best. The Supreme Court has seemingly bent over backwards, almost breaking their weak spines, in order to avoid doing anything at all to raise the ire of the bully in the Oval Office.
WHY?
It is almost as if somebody, somewhere, is holding something over their heads. But what? And who?
Is our government being held hostage by someone or a group of someones?
I can tell you that those that I would think would have been much more ferocious in their condemnation of this regime have acted strangely. It's out of character. It's almost incredible to me.
Why else would Speaker John Boehner call out a member of his own Party, Michelle Bachmann, for simply stating the TRUTH about a freakin' Democrat, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has known ties to organizations that have been implicated in terrorism? A chorus of Republican voices quickly came to Bachmann's defense in the wake of such a despicable tongue lashing on Boehner's part. For this I was most gratified.
But the more important issue is why would Boehner do such a thing to begin with? What the hell is he afraid of? It is as if someone, somewhere behind the scenes has the major power brokers in this government by the gonads, daring them to make one move that could put radical Islam, or George Soros, or SEIU, or any of the progressive sacred cows in a negative light.
And all of this has occurred against the backdrop of a treaty at the U.N. that would directly threaten the Second Amendment rights of average citizens. Although that treaty appears to be doomed to failure, Senate Democrats moved quickly to insert a gun control amendment into a cybersecurity bill--an amendment that would place restrictions on citizens, ban certain weapons, and limit ammunition purchases.
In the midst of all of this, Scalia opens his mouth and strikes fear in the minds of ALL conservatives who value their freedoms when it comes to firearms rights.
These factors have led me to stop dead in my tracks and ask myself, "What the hell is going on? What are these people doing? What in God's name is happening to this country right before our very eyes, by the day? And why are some of those on our side rolling over and playing dead, essentially allowing the dismantling of the Republic?"
Now, spare me the nutcase conspiracies, please. Israel and its bankers are not behind it. I consider those who hold that view to be freaks, nutcases, lunatics. I feel the same way about the so-called 9/11 truthers who believe that the 9/11 attacks were "an inside job." Take your loony 'toons crap elsewhere. If you try to post that stuff here, I will delete it immediately.
But just because I summarily reject most of the more outlandish conspiracy theories does not mean I am not capable of recognizing a conspiracy when there IS one! And in this case, the circumstances at the very least suggest that something is terribly amiss.
My friends, I know that people in both political parties are culpable in this period of distress. I have regularly taken to task the RINOS as much as I have the Democrats. And I have castigated George W. Bush for his excesses as well.
But let me be absolutely clear about this so that no one misunderstands me. Bush is the Angel Gabriel when compared to Barack Obama. And as much as I detest a lot of what Boehner has done as Speaker of the House, he is the prophet Elijah when compared to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
In order to change the situation we have to send packing the worst offenders first. Thus, our first order of business is to get rid of Barack Obama in November and make sure the Democrats no longer control the Senate or the House.
Now, no matter what that means for you in terms of who you vote for, there is one thing on which we can ALL agree--we need to send Obama packing and we need to rid Congress of his enablers, most of whom are Democrats.
This cannot go on as it stands now.
If in getting rid of Obama, Reid, and company we also get rid of a few RINOS as well, replacing them with solid conservatives, then great. But beware. Do not assume that just because we may defeat Scott Brown in Massachusetts we will get someone better. In fact, if you have been following that Senate race up there then you know the alternative is much worse, a bona fide nutcase.
If you want to vote for Libertarian candidates, then have at it, but I will also remind you that I have seen some Libertarians that I would no more support than I would Jerry Brown, another bona fide nutcase.
The issue is not the Party. The issue is the candidate and the broader issue of getting rid of the current leadership structure that is dominated by Democrats.
This has to be the starting point.
And don't ever forget, my friends, that if Obama wins again, hold onto your gonads because if you think the current Supreme Court is bad, just wait till Obama appoints two or three more justices. We may as well pack it up and haul it in as soon as he is elected in November. It will be time to bury the United States of America which we will have killed with our deplorable political choices.
This evening I thought I would present some thoughts for your consideration that may well bother you, and, to be frank, that bother me. Nonetheless, there is a certain price to be paid for being fully awake and aware, cognizant of the dangers we face in this age, and in full possession of the facts.

Every Blade of Grass says he's interested in getting involved with reloading--something I am hearing a lot about as it appears the Leviathans are intent on limiting ammunition.
Pamela Geller notes that the major conservative commentators have stopped writing about the Jihad and the intent on the part of extremist Muslims to implement Sharia Law. I urge you to read this with an open mind and carefully consider her argument. Something is not right here.

Scalia's gun remarks outrage conservatives
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia outraged conservatives with his remarks on gun control and the Second Amendment this morning in a Fox News interview with Chris Wallace.
Scalia stated that the court may issue gun control rulings in the future due to "precedent' indicating that within the context of the 18th century the Framers of the Constitution allowed for local restrictions on guns and bans on certain types of weapons.
Conservatives immediately cried foul.

Fox News' Bill O'Reilly becomes gun control advocate
Gun rights activists have noted that for the past three nights in a row Fox News' Bill O'Reilly has advocated gun control, calling for a national database of gun owners who buy what he calls "heavy weapons," including the registration of ammunition sales. Such a database is specifically prohibited by law.
The three night assault on the Second Amendment rights of citizens led one activist to refer to O'Reilly as a "faux conservative" and another to call for a boycott of The O'Reilly Factor and a coordinated effort to contact the sponsors of the show expressing their deep discontent.
With O'Reilly's new anti-gun initiative he joins the ranks of other well known gun control activists such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, CNN's Piers Morgan, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., all of whom are considered extremists by those who are involved in the movement to protect the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Democrats slip gun control into cybersecurity bill
Senate Democrats slipped in a gun control amendment to a cybersecurity bill Friday, claiming that it is time to impose "reasonable gun control measures," according to The Hill.
The cybersecurity bill has advanced to the stage in the process when amendments can be attached. Amendments to bills often have nothing to do with the issue being addressed in the bill itself.
Senators Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Bob Menendez, D-N.J., and Jack Reed, D-R.I., sponsored bill S.A. 2575 which would make it illegal to possess or transfer large capacity magazines, belts, feed stripes, or drums holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.
David Codrea notes that Obama's call for new gun bans now places his ulterior motives above the radar.
Mike Vanderboegh points to an editorial writer who has called for the outright repeal of the Second Amendment.
Stand Up America alerts us to evidence that we are getting closer to a much broader war in the Middle East by the moment.
Brigid blogs on gunsmithing and other items of interest.
Tam has a few choice words for Fox's Bill O'Reilly over his tirade concerning "too much ammo." I am about to label him as a "bastard' along with Bloomberg.
Standing By provides a must read on "the fundamental principle of self-defense."
Way Up North presents a thoughtful, heartfelt read that contains a million lessons applicable to a variety of situations. I suggest you read it.
WRSA notes that Barack Obama is now squarely in the same company with Hitler, Stalin, and a gazillion other government monsters who claimed that weapons "belong in the hands of soldiers" alone. He also has a pictorial showing exactly what happens when only soldiers have AK-47s.
Karl Denninger posts another excellent one entitled, "Rahm Emanuel, Dictator."
Every Blade of Grass found a good rebuttal to a CNN hit piece against guns.

DOJ inspector meets with congressmen on Fast and Furious
On Wednesday U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C. disclosed to the Washington Times that he and a colleague had met with the inspector general of the Department of Justice (DOJ) last week to discuss a pending report of an investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal.
Gowdy and U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, met with the newly appointed inspector general for the DOJ, Michael Horowitz, last week to discuss when he planned on releasing the report of his internal investigation into scandal that has encompassed at least three cabinet level agencies of the Obama administration.
The inspector general works for the DOJ and cannot be considered independent. However, the report is expected to include information on the failure of the Fast and Furious program and who authorized its implementation.

Investigators expose gun control in UN small arms treaty
A team of investigative reporters for Ammoland have exposed previously unpublished documents showing that the controversial U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), also known as the "small arms treaty," includes gun control for private "small arms and light weapons" as U.S. gun owners feared.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been negotiating the treaty at the United Nations on behalf of the Obama administration.
Clinton had assured the public that the treaty would include language prohibiting the treaty from mandating restrictions on U.S. gun sales. But the documents uncovered by Ammoland indicate otherwise.

The New York Liberty Report highlights the fact that the U.S. has billions of barrels of oil representing millions of jobs, but Obama and the Democrats won't allow drilling for it.

Gun sales spike 41 percent after Colorado shooting
The Denver Post is reporting today that gun sales in Colorado have spiked 41 percent since the shooting at the Century 16 theater in Aurora last Friday. And the Colorado Bureau of Investigation reports that its approval of background checks for new firearms purchasers jumped 43 percent within the last four days.
In spite of claims by high profile news media personalities such as Piers Morgan and politicians such as U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., that the nation's "lax gun laws" cause such massacres, American citizens do not seem to be buying it.
Instead, Americans appear to believe that owning and carrying a gun is the best protection a citizen can be afforded in this era in which criminals find a way to get grenades, explosives, and other weaponry in spite of strict gun control laws like those in Aurora, Colo.

Democrats double down on demands for gun control
In a renewed onslaught only one day after they called for more gun control in the wake of the Colorado shooting, Democrats in Washington today doubled down on their demands that average American citizens relinquish some or all of their firearms rights in order to prevent criminals from getting guns.
U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., and U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., claimed Saturday that lax gun laws led to the mass shooting that killed 12 movie goers in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning just after midnight.
Today the two Democrats were joined by U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who stated that "weapons of war don't belong on the streets." Feinstein renewed her call to reinstate the so-called "assault weapons ban" that would prohibit citizens from purchasing semi-automatic weapons with high capacity magazines.
