U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz, R-Texas, defeated opponent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in a landslide in a Republican runoff election Tuesday. The tea party, which backs Cruz, stated that the race is a bellwether for the nation, indicating that the tea party is alive and well in the run up to the November general election.
Tea Party Express Chair Amy Kremer stated that a narrative has been written in the mainstream media that maintains the tea party is dead. "But the tea party is alive and ready to own 2012," she said.
