The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

The War on Guns blasts the NRA for in essence helping the Democrats retain control of the Senate. I have always said that "single issue organizations" like this can do more harm than good. Endorsing a Commie simply because he or she may support NRA legislation on guns is NOT a good thing! It is about LIBERTY, not just guns!

Kurt Hofmann has an excellent article today on Oath Keepers and gun rights.

Way Up North gives us a run down of the news from the great state of Alaska, including some political stuff.

Standing By points to a most interesting piece by a Russian immigrant who hates Barack Obama.

GunRights4US has some observations to report on a Halloween experience last evening, and the attitude and demeanor of the hobgoblins who came to his door. Interesting.

Days of our Trailers declares that gun-free zones work...for criminals.

Every Blade of Grass provides a cartoon editorial on a conversation between Obama and a Marine in Benghazi.

Alphecca says that Cook County, Illinois will slap another $25 dollar tax on gun sales.

Tapes said to reveal 'damning' Obama failures in Libyan massacre

A set of unreleased audio tapes from the night of the Benghazi massacre in Libya are said to reveal "damning" information concerning the failures of the Obama administration in responding to the slaughter of a U.S. ambassador and three other American diplomats.

Fox News commentator Sean Hannity stated on Tuesday that trusted sources told him that the tapes are very damaging. American personnel on the ground, said Hannity, were begging for help.

Pamela Geller reports some shocking info on how American Muslims feel about freedom of speech. Don't be fooled by the "moderate Muslim" meme. Apparently there are very few of those.

The New York Liberty Report has more news on the Obama campaign donation scandal. Did you know it is illegal to accept donations from foreign sources?

Mike McCarville notes that Oklahoma's new "open carry" law goes into effect tomorrow, and the governor has reminded citizens who plan to carry their guns openly to read up on the law.

Billy Beck offers up some piercing commentary on the voting this year--much food for thought.

Blonde Sagacity blasts Colin Powell. Good. For 40 years I have been saying that man has gotten wayyyyy more respect than he deserves and is worthy of nothing but disdain.

WRSA notes that Ann Barnhardt believes the Feds may be preparing to suspend the election, using Hurricane Sandy as an excuse.

'Enthusiasm gap' may cripple Dems on election day

Pollsters have noted what is known as an "enthusiasm gap" in this year's presidential race. President Obama is not getting the level of dedication and enthusiasm among his supporters that he received in 2008. And Mitt Romney has managed to fire up the Republican base and capture the vast majority of independent voters.

The enthusiasm factor appears to be so crucial to next Tuesday's results that some Republican strategists have stated that a massive tsunami may be building in favor of Romney, so massive that Obama and the Democrats may be totally overwhelmed.

Blizzard conditions in North Carolina

The mountains of North Carolina have been hit with blizzard conditions as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Sandy, which slammed the northeast coast late yesterday.

Counties along the border with East Tennessee have at least eight inches on the ground with much more expected as the day wears on. Some areas could get upwards of two feet of snow.

Popular snow skiing resorts located near Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk are enjoying the extra business such conditions bring. The downside, though, is the high winds.

The Great Smoky Mountains two hours to the southwest of Boone could see some of the highest snow totals in the area. At least 24 inches are expected in some areas, effecting mountain towns such as Bryson City, Cherokee, and Maggie Valley.

The entire area remains under the winter storm warning.

Days of our Trailers declares that the "national conversation" on gun rights is over. The reason? The unreasonableness of the anti-gunners.

Brigid has an important post on bulk food storage...just in case.

Tam provides a "mini gear review."

Way Up North issues a report on his latest trip to the firing range.

WRSA offers some pertinent advice for these uncertain times.

Standing By notes my latest entry in the series "Musings After Midnight," and graciously comes to my defense in the event that some may think I had gone off the deep end and totally lost all of my marbles. I assure you I have not. It's just that the subject matter is that important, too important, in fact, to describe without the strongest language possible.

Stand Up America alerts us to a new Obama Executive Order that may have gotten by us unnoticed. Take a look!

Shift in polls favors Romney

With only eight days left before the general election of 2012, polls across the country have indicated a shift in voter preference that has been underway for several weeks. The shift began just after the first debate between President Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. But nothing has happened in the intervening weeks to prevent the ongoing momentum enjoyed by Romney, and  after three debates several distinct trends have come into sharp focus.

The first pattern that began to develop revolves around some of the states that went for Obama in 2008. To everyone's surprise in 2008, North Carolina shifted into the Democratic column after decades of voting for the Republican nominee. This year, however, North Carolina has shifted into the Republican column, and Romney has the lead just outside the margin of error in most polls.

Musings After Midnight--Is this the last election of the American Republic?

Good evening, my friends, and welcome. Time for another one of our after midnight chats.

In only eight days Americans will go to the polls to cast their ballots for the candidate they prefer for the office of the presidency of the United States. I suspect that most conscientious Americans are already "election weary." I have had the impression over the past week that citizens largely have tuned out the talk of politics, Obama, Romney, ObamaCare, and so forth, probably due to the fact that this election cycle has set yet another record in terms of length. With each passing election cycle, the process seems to get only longer. And the people are worn out from it long before election day.

The undecided voters that remain are relatively few in number--anywhere from 9 to 11 percent. Most have already made up their minds.

And while it appears that Romney is the one with the momentum in the waning days before the voting occurs, a nagging question keeps haunting my mind day after day--is this the last election of the American Republic?

The thing that has precipitated this nagging thought is the fact that in spite of Romney's lead, that lead appears at least on the surface to be razor thin, within the margin of error or barely outside of it.

How, I ask, could this possibly be true? We have gone through the absolute worst four years economically since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Inflation is eating our paychecks like candy. Over-the-counter and prescription drugs have increased nearly 100 percent. Food is up 20 percent. Gasoline is up 100 percent, depending on where you live in the country. Twenty-three million Americans are out of work and have been out of work longer than at any other time since the Great Depression. And then there are the scandals that make Watergate look like a game of tiddly winks with choir boys from St. Michael's Church. Fast and Furious and Benghazi have exposed Barack Obama and his top lieutenants as barefaced liars who cannot be trusted with even simple truths much less the hard ones. And nobody died in Watergate. In Obama's scandals people have an uncanny way of winding up...d-e-a-d.

So, this election should not even be considered close. Romney at this point should have at least a 10-point lead over Obama.

The oft-used explanation that the mainstream media has manipulated public opinion surveys, which they do, does not work here. Scott Rasmussen, who has never been accused of skewing polls to favor Republicans or Democrats, confirms that Romney's lead is razor thin. Rasmussen has also had the most accurate polls during the last three election cycles.

So why, then, given the present sorry state of affairs in the country, is Obama doing so well?

The answer to this question, I admit, has me thoroughly spooked.

Most of the people who say they are voting for Obama are not at all concerned about gasoline prices, or jobs, or the overall economy. They are not worried about the cost of medications. They are not even disturbed by the gargantuan scandals that have rocked this administration.

Two reasons stand out in my mind as to why this is true. First, Obama's core, his base, is made up of those who receive public assistance via the taxpayers. No wonder economic issues do not worry them. They know they are going to get their needs met, come what may. As long as the gravy train keeps stopping by the house, they can hide their heads under the sheets and pretend that part of the reason why most taxpayers suffer is not due to their inaction. And no, here I am not talking about those who are elderly, sick, or disabled. I am talking about the multimillions who have found a way to milk the system while most of us have to work two or three jobs just to try to stay afloat. And many of us who work those two or three jobs have our own health issues, but we get out there and try anyway. But the second reason that many Americans will vote for Obama even if he rips the economy--and everything else--to shreds is a much more disturbing one. This one is purely ideological.

America is alarmingly close to crossing a very dangerous threshold. Several new generations of Americans, including several new waves of immigrants, no longer adhere to the foundational principles and values that make this country what it is. This is why Obama can essentially wipe his butt with the Constitution, and it barely causes a ripple. This is why a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court can side with ultra-liberals in creating out of thin air a justification for the most egregious attack on personal choice and individual freedom in the nation's history, and Americans yawn and go back to sleep.

The bottom line is that nearly 50 percent of Americans believe that the Constitution is no longer relevant anyway. They have also, like blind sheep, bought into the notion that the Constitution means whatever a group of mush-brained justices say it means, even if they interpret the words "shall not be infringed" to infringe on your right to go to the toilet in privacy.

Frankly, "court precedent" be damned. It means nothing to me whatsoever. The concept should be tossed on the ash-heap along with other vestiges of tyranny that belong on the dunghill. Court precedent is just a convenient excuse for a bunch of tyrants with black robes to justify shredding the Constitution of the United States. As long as others before them on the Court have been worthless tyrants, they can justify themselves in being the very same thing.

Within the demented minds of these brainwashed minions, including some of the black robbed scoundrels who sit on the court, it is treasonous for a person to advocate the things the Framers themselves advocated. Thomas Jefferson today would be branded a traitor and thrown into jail. George Washington would be labeled an "insurrectionist." Benjamin Franklin would be charged with sedition and imprisoned.

You see, the mindset of the nearly 50 percent of Americans who buy this garbage maintains that government is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present. These are the attributes that Christians ascribe to God. But today God has been replaced. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has been replaced with the god of multiculturalism, big government, and political correctness. Thus, freedom of speech is to be severely restricted lest anyone "offend" someone who is not of our culture or religion. If I happen to hate guns, I cannot be satisfied with the fact that I do not have to buy one, and nobody can force me to buy one, no no, but I must attempt to keep YOU from buying one as well.

In this brave new world I have the perfect right to peer into your private life, to see if you smoke in your rented apartment, to ascertain if the medications you take are truly legitimate, to monitor your phone calls, emails, and bank accounts, and to trace your whereabouts using your cell phone or the tracking system that is installed in your vehicle.  And for heaven's sake, you had damn well be sure you bought a health insurance policy, or else the government will drag you out of your home in the middle of the night, kicking and screaming, to the gallows.

I have but one simple gesture for this type of government and those who have foisted it on us. I flip you the bird. Right in your face. You are not fit to be a citizen, nor are you fit to have the right to vote. If you cannot accept the basic premises of liberty contained in our Constitution, then you should not be allowed to vote, and you certainly should not be living here. You would be happier elsewhere.

You see, my friends, many in this category would vote for Barack Obama under any circumstance simply because they know his core values are diametrically opposed to the values Americans have held dear for over 200 years. And that is precisely why they support him. If they were lying in the streets homeless, naked, and starving due to Obama's policies, they would still muster all of the strength left within their wretched existence to go the polls and cast a vote for him. Why? Because he wants to destroy this Constitutional Republic. He hates the concept of maximum individual liberty. He is at his core a Marxist. And, as Marx himself and other Communists have stated, socialism or even fascism are but intermediate steps to Communism. If it takes implementing only a limited form of socialism and fascism in certain areas of economy in order to acclimate the electorate to more government control, then that is a most excellent course to take. It prepares the way for the day that full blown Communism is implemented and personal freedom is gone forever.

Those who proposed and shoved ObamaCare down our throats, for example, stated in private that the plan is only intermediary. It is a half-way point to a so-called "single-payer system" where the government owns and implements the entirety of the healthcare structure. But make no mistake, the ultimate goal is for government to force insurance companies out of business, force doctors to be employees of the federal government, and control every aspect of the medical care of the citizens who then become mere pawns in the hands of nameless, faceless bureaucrats hundreds of miles away in Washington.

The fact that a so-called "conservative" on the Supreme Court was the deciding vote in favor of this unmitigated fiasco still to this day sticks in my craw. If it were up to me he would be impeached, charged with treason, and jailed, along with Breyer, Ginsberg, Sotomayor, and Kagan.

But even that has not prevented nearly 50 percent of Americans from saying they intend to vote for Obama. Naturally it wouldn't. They know the game, and the game is get this intermediate step in place, and then down the road get rid of insurance companies and implement a full government takeover of the entire industry--you know, like Obama did with GM?

If this man is elected to a second term, I honestly believe that it's over. America is done as a Constitutional Republic. Many believe that it has been done for quite some time now, beginning with the implementation of the income tax in the early 1900s, a concept which the Framers OPPOSED.

I do know that the courts have undertaken a concerted effort over the past 60 years or so to undercut every foundational principle of the Constitution. And in that regard we are NOT a Constitutional Republic. But we are not too far gone to salvage. The problem, I am convinced, is that if Obama is reelected the process to render the Constitutional totally null and void will be finished during his second term. What little we have left of individual freedom will be nullified by the time he is through in 2016.

Add into the mix the prospects for yet another cycle of Democratic control in the Senate, and you have the perfect storm for tyranny. I am told that Republican control of the Senate is a long shot at best. Can you imagine a lame duck Obama, with nothing to lose in 2013 since he cannot run again, unleashed on the public along with a Democrat controlled Senate?

This is why I say with all certainty that unless we succeed in getting rid of this scourge--Obama and his minions that control the Senate--then 2012 will be the VERY LAST election of this Constitutional Republic. The next election will be something entirely different, such as making a choice between Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. Marxists always claim they give the people the right to a popular vote. The ugly truth, though, is that they never give the people a real choice. Voting between Tweedledee and Tweedledum is no real choice.

So, my friends, what's it gonna be?

We must get rid of Obama and place Republicans in control of the Senate.

I know, I know, some Republicans are just as bad. But we have to start somewhere. And I say we start here and hold Romney and the Republicans' feet to the fire with the threat that if they fail to adhere to conservative principles, we WILL rip the party apart from top to bottom. If we put them in office, they will owe us, and the failure to come through will be the demise of the Republican Party.

They all lied

When the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya first came under attack, the Obama administration stated that the main reason for its reluctance to attribute the attacks to coordinated terrorism was that there was an ongoing investigation into the matter and that it would be premature to comment until that investigation was completed.

This was in spite of the fact, of course, that the administration was quick to blame the attacks on an obscure film long before that investigation was completed and certainly long before the facts were in.

But now that more of the facts are coming in and more information from the ongoing investigation is becoming available, not only has it become clear that the truth bears little semblance to the story spun by administration officials, including the president, but that the horrid scenario that played out on Sept. 11 in Benghazi represents an entire litany of missteps, miscalculations, incompetence, and a shocking lack of attention to basic security measures to which U.S. personnel located in danger zones are entitled.

ATF retaliation against whistleblowers rampant

According to agents employed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) yesterday, retaliation against agency whistleblowers is now rampant and raging out of control.

One agent who blew the whistle on the ATF, leading to the disclosure that the Obama administration had planned and implemented Operation Fast and Furious, was fired.

Newly released emails show smoking gun on Libyan attacks

Newly released emails from Libya to the Obama administration in Washington show that President Obama knew from day one that the Libyan attacks that killed four U.S. diplomats were acts of terrorism and not a spontaneous reaction to an anti-Muslim film.

The emails were released Tuesday by the intelligence community in an effort to clear their reputations from the accusation by the White House that when the president stated the attacks were motivated by a film that insulted the prophet Muhammad, it was only passing along information provided by intelligence sources on the ground.

John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told Fox News Tuesday evening that none of the earliest emails from Libya said a word about the film but specifically noted that the consulate in Libya had been warned in advance that al Qaeda connected terrorism was on the rise in the region and that the lives of U.S. diplomats were in danger.

Facts show Romney was right on auto bailout

One of the more contentious moments during Monday's presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney came as the president accused Romney of opposing all government assistance to the big auto companies during the 2008 crisis.

Romney vehemently denied the charge and urged viewers to check the facts for themselves.

A quick fact check on the claim reveals that Romney did, indeed, support a limited offer of government assistance to General Motors (GM) and Chrysler in the form of guarantees, although he opposed giving tax dollars directly to the two automakers.

Obama, Romney square off in final debate

In the final presidential debate of the 2012 election cycle, President Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney squared off in Boca Raton, Fla. to discuss foreign policy issues.

The mainstream media and Democratic Party officials had already given the edge to Obama in this debate on the assumption that an incumbent president has a built in advantage in dealing with such issues, having four years to hone his skills in the foreign arena.

Conventional wisdom in this case, however, is questionable, given a series of gaffes, failures, and misstatements that have characterized the Obama team's response to a massacre at the U.S. consulate in Libya...

Tonight After the Final Debate...

Just a heads up that tonight after the final presidential debate between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, I will publish a complete run-down of the discussion at the Examiner.

I thought this was important enough to merit attention and reporting, up to the minute.

Romney has a golden opportunity to score some major points on Libya in particular, but also the Fast and Furious scandal. I hope he will bring it up as an example of Obama's failed foreign policy and make the pledge that he will immediately, if elected, rescind the executive privilege declaration that has prevented Congress from getting all of the information it needs in its investigation.

We shall see.

Administration changes Libyan story again

In a depiction of what one U.S. senator called "a case study in failure," the Obama administration has once again changed its story on what took place in Libya in the days and hours leading up to the deadly attack that left a U.S. ambassador and three other diplomats dead.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., stated over the weekend that the conflicting stories on the Libyan massacre represent an "orchestrated changing narrative" with selective disclosures on the portions of intelligence reports that appear to support the administration's claim that the attacks were spurred by outrage over an anti-Muslim film produced in the United States.

Newly disclosed CIA intel disputes White House account of Libyan attack

The CIA has now gone public with intelligence it possessed 24 hours after the deadly Libyan terrorist attacks that left a U.S. ambassador and three other diplomats dead. On Friday the agency disclosed to reporters that it had informed the administration in Washington the day after the attacks that it had evidence the attacks were perpetrated by terrorist militants and not a spontaneous mob protesting an anti-Muslim film.

According to the CIA there was no mob, no protest, and no mention of the film on the ground in Libya.

Yet President Obama, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney were quick to lay the blame for the massacre on the film.

This Little Blog Had a Birthday

I forgot to mention that this little blog recently had a birthday. No big deal, but still, it is a milestone.

Six years ago I began this venture not intending to do anything big with it. I just sat down and began to write. At first my readers were very few in number-- 50 or 100 was considered an excellent day, and most of the time it was much lower than that.

And then I happened across a new blog that had been started in support of the Duke University Lacrosse players who were accused of raping a black woman in Durham, N.C. The story caught my attention due to the fact that before any evidence was presented, the liberals in Durham had already tried the case in the press and proclaimed them guilty.

But a group of students and professors at Duke, along with a few writers and cartoonists, came together to form a minority opinion, disturbed by the fact that not only did the facts fail to add up but it appeared that the young students were being railroaded to jail as political scapegoats. They started a blog where they posted their views, and their investigation into the matter.

Thus, I wrote a story about the controversy and the inherent reverse racism at Duke, in the N.C. Democratic Party, and in the local state's attorney's office. That blog picked up on my story and linked to it, and suddenly I was getting 150-200 readers per day. That one act of kindness by the writers on that blog placed me in a position to gain some traction.

And by the way the students were found to be innocent of all charges, the accuser was exposed as a fraud, and the local state's attorney was punished for overt corruption.

In the year or two that followed, readership slowly grew here. And now, readership over the past two years has averaged 500-600 per day--nowhere near the top in terms of popularity, but still, better than most.

I noted also today that my total readership since late 2006 stands at 1.1 million--1,133,055.

Thank you for visiting these pages day after day. It's great to know that this little blog has picked up a small but intensely loyal following.

I am nowhere near finished. I have much more I want to say.

I was speaking at a church recently, and I quipped that now, for the first time in my life, I have to watch the time carefully because I tend to go way over my allotted time. I don't use notes, but still I seem to have much more to say now than I did when I was much younger. One person in the congregation responded by saying, "Well, hopefully you know much more now than you did back then." That's true, although some would say that all these things I now know, which I did not know before, are not true.

I would hope that most if not all of what I have learned through the years is, indeed, true.

CNN rallies reporters to support Crowley under cloud of suspicion

An internal memo at CNN surfaced yesterday showing that the network is secretly rallying support for debate moderator Candy Crowley in light of the firestorm of controversy surrounding her apparent attempt to aid and abet President Obama in propagating a falsehood concerning the Libyan massacre.

The memo states that Crowley did a "superb job" in moderating the debate and encourages her colleagues to congratulate her for it.

Crowley debate flap broadens into potential scandal

In the aftermath of what many political observers say was the worst presidential debate in U.S. history, more evidence has emerged that the flap over Candy Crowley's performance as moderator is becoming a full blown scandal as more Americans review the video and the transcripts from the debate.

The mainstream media in one accord proclaimed Obama the winner of the debate. But opinion polls of citizens appear to contradict that assessment...

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

Mike McCarville has a must-read entitled, "I'm tired of being told..." Read it all.

Standing By comments on Obama's call for a new "assault weapons ban."

Kurt Hofmann takes off the gloves and smashes Obama for the call for the ban, calling it "forcible citizen disarmament."

Tam adds in her two cents worth on Obama's call for the ban.

The Wandering Minstrel posts excellent advice on the mindset that is necessary on the part of those who carry concealed.

Nicki shares some hard-hitting thoughts on last night's presidential debate.

The New York Liberty Report has the explosive story on a disabled war vet who was labeled as a "terrorist" for questioning the cost of surveillance cameras law enforcement agencies are using across the country. Well, hell. I think we are becoming a Commie-Nazi police state. Does that make me a terrorist too????  Sheesh. This stuff is getting wayyyyyy out of hand.

David Codrea highlights, once again, some NRA shenanigans in endorsing candidates who oppose human liberty just as long as they support NRA-backed gun bills. A sham. And a disgrace.

Every Blade of Grass informs us of something frightening and absolutely vital for us to know--the federal government has graduated its first class of "homeland youths." You must see this.

Traction Control did some fact checking of his own concerning Obama and the auto industry, and the Prez, you know, Dumbo, has done some unconscionable things in that regard.

Monitors catch debate moderators giving more time to Obama-Biden

After three nationally televised debates, two between President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney and one between Vice President Biden and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, media watchdogs who monitor the time given to the candidates now have proof that debate moderators are granting more time to the Democrats than Republicans.

In each of the three debates, Obama and Biden have had significantly more time to answer questions than Romney and Ryan. The unfairness of the time split raises once again the question as to the legitimacy of this year's presidential debates, given that they are being moderated by members of the mainstream media who have a documented history of showing blatant bias in favor of Obama and the Democrats and against Romney and the Republicans.

Crowley: 'Gov. Romney, sit down'

Ahead of tonight's presidential debate in New York, conservatives were quick to note that CNN's Candy Crowley had already disqualified herself as a moderator by suggesting that the choice of Paul Ryan as Romney's running mate was a poor choice and that is represented a "death wish."

Crowley may have given conservatives more fodder for the criticism this evening. Both men interrupted each other on numerous occasions, but Crowley appeared disallow follow up answers from Romney more than from Obama.

The NRA presents an excellent interview with fired ATF whistleblower Vince Cefalu.

Tam offers some wisdom about cheap handguns and the ammo used in them.

Media mischief surfaces prior to Tuesday debate

As the 2012 presidential campaign enters its final phase just weeks before the November general elections, the mainstream media has been the focus of attention and criticism from those who monitor the fairness of the press.

Today the criticism has been rekindled as media mischief has surfaced ahead of Tuesday evening's debate between President Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Candy Crowley of CNN is the designated moderator of tomorrow night's debate. But Crowley has a history of overt bias. In this case, however, her recent statements have raised the protests of both campaigns.

Administration plays confusing blame game with Libya

A confusing array of contradictions concerning the murders of four Americans, one of which was a U.S. ambassador, was made worse by Vice President Joe Biden's remarks during the debate with Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan Thursday evening.

Today the confusion only worsened yet again when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters that her agency was not the source of misinformation concerning the attacks, charging instead that the White House was the source of the false mantra that the murders were spurred by an anti-Muslim film made in the  United States.

An Urgent Request

This is an urgent prayer request.

Gun blogger and liberty advocate Mike Vanderboegh will be entering the hospital today for at least a week to deal with the aftermath of two strokes he suffered while at a gun rights conference in Florida last week.

One of the strokes occurred at the brain stem and has affected his ability to maintain his balance. Another side effect of the stroke is uncontrollable hiccups along with nausea.

Mike is already receiving treatment for stomach cancer.

These setbacks are extremely serious. We need to pray for Mike, his wife and family, and his close friends during this time.

News bias rampant the day after the debate

Vice President Joe Biden and challenger Paul Ryan met in their first and only debate of the 2012 election cycle last evening in what could be described as a scrappy, messy mudfest. The two opponents were at each other's throats on nearly every issue.

But the manner in which the mainstream media is depicting the debate displays an odd and curious bias that only further solidifies in the minds of conservatives that the news business in this country has the deck stacked against them.

With the exception of Fox News, the media has apparently declared that Biden's performance was "strong" and that he "did what he needed to do" in setting the terms of discussion during the debate.

But constantly interrupting one's debate opponent and engaging in distracting and obnoxious sneers is not "setting the terms of the discussion and dominating the debate." Under normal conditions dominating a debate means the participant did so through a command of the facts and showing up his opponent with those facts. Biden failed at both.

The comments came as the administration continues to attempt damage control in light of the fact that new information from multiple sources, including the White House, the State Department, and the Defense Department indicates that President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice issued statements within 24 hours of the attacks that not only were false but that the government knew were false.

Controversy ensues at gun rights conference

Controversy ensued at a recent gun rights conference in Orlando, according to Mike Vanderboegh who reported the incident today on his blog, Sipsey Street Irregulars.

In spite of being severely weakened by treatments for cancer, Vanderboegh attended the conference against his better judgement and that of his friends due to the fact that those who thought his presence to be vital took it upon themselves to  pay his expenses for the trip.

A question and answer panel made up of several nationally known gun rights advocates invited the participation of those in attendance, and Vanderboegh made his way to the microphone to ask a question. But before he was able to ask it, he was cut off by moderators.

In the months leading up to the Republican National Convention in Tampa this summer, presidential nominee Mitt Romney condemned the Fast and Furious scandal as an example of everything that is wrong with the Obama administration. At the NRA Convention, for example, Romney expressed his support for gun rights and decried an administration that would fail to protect those rights.

But as National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea notes today, it may be time for Romney to make clear to the American people how he plans to address this scandal, the worst in U.S. history, if he is elected president.

Something Very Special

Abraham Lincoln once said, "All I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother."

October is a noteworthy month for me. 18 years ago I lost the most important person in my entire life, my Mother. I won't say much about it that I have not already said in the past, which you can read from The Liberty Sphere archives, which I have posted after the video.

Suffice it to say that the following song by Welsh poet/songwriter/singer Donna Lewis perfectly captures most of my feelings about her. I hope you enjoy it.

Click on the link at the top of the vid to view on YouTube (it may not play here).

We lost her in the month of October as the weather grows cooler and the days shorten, as if she were beckoned to heaven by the changing color of autumn leaves. Her struggle with cancer had left her depleted and weary, her relief and permanent healing only provided by her abiding faith in One who would transport her to another realm where suffering is no more.

Welsh singer/writer/poet Donna Lewis speaks of her Mother as the one who showed her the way through 'the chosen words' of everlasting faith and hope. I can fully relate. But more about that a bit later.

My Mother was a woman of unusual strength and determination, buoyed constantly by a faith that would not flinch in the face of seeming insurmountable obstacles. But my most vivid and poignant memories of her are from boyhood, having spent many a day suffering from the frightening plight of childhood asthma.

I remember as a boy feeling as if I were smothering once the lights went out at night. I am not certain of any scientific or medical evidence suggesting that this is common among the victims of childhood asthma, but nonetheless, I remember having the distinct and frightening feeling that my struggle to breath was made worse by the darkness.

Many a night during those days I would get up and go to the den, where there was always a light. Some way, somehow, though she were sound asleep, my Mother would always sense my presence in the den, and before long she would be by my side sitting in the chair as I reclined on the sofa.

Sometimes she would hold my hand, other times she would get me medicine to help me breath. Sometimes she would hold my head as I threw up from the drugs that were given for the asthma.

Eventually, sleep would slowly overtake me unaware. I would awaken in the morning as the light of the sun came through the window. Invariably as I would look to my side, I would find my Mother still there, sometimes sleeping softly in the chair, sometimes watching me as I awakened.

In some indescribable fashion, the terror that the night brought to a small boy who suffered from asthma was always greatly relieved by the presence of my Mother...and the knowledge that she would be there at the dawning of the morning's light.

Her memory forever lives on in my heart, undimmed by the passage of time. And when October comes, I still feel the sadness of the day we lost her to that higher realm of being.

Donna Lewis, the Welsh singer/songwriter, burst onto the music scene in this country in 1996 with the hit single 'I Love You Always, Forever.' On that same recording is a song that also received some acclaim, though it never reached the level of success as her initial release. It is called simply, 'Mother.'

The song is profound. And it bears an uncanny similarity to my own experience and feelings associated with my Mother. In loving tribute of my Mother, I offer you these captivating words from Donna Lewis.

'Mother'
by Donna Lewis

And I can hear you calling my name
Your healing hands smooth away the pain
And I can hear you whispering
'It'll be alright'...you'll stay until the night breaks into day

You are my light ... in the dark
You stand beside me
You take my hand ... show me the way
You're here to guide me
You give me the strength ... that I need
You give me shelter
You gave me life ... you gave me love
You are my mother

And when you hear me calling your name (I hear your voice)
You touch me with your chosen words
Everlasting faith, everlasting love is the greatest gift you have
Believing understanding me

CHORUS

Closer ... closer ... closer to heaven are you
You are my light in the dark
You take my hand and show me the way
You give me the strength that I need
You gave me life you gave me love

Ultra-liberal Christian group to oppose anti-jihad ads

Sojourners, an organization described by most conservative theologians and Christian groups as "ultra-liberal," has announced its opposition to a series of ads placed in New York City, San Francisco, and shortly in Washington, D.C. that express opposition to extremist Islamists who advocate jihad.

The anti-jihad ads are sponsored by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) in response to a series of ads placed by a Muslim group that attacks Israel by name.

Pamela Geller, executive director of AFDI, told CNN that the group's motivation for placing the anti-jihad ads was to challenge the hatred expressed toward Israelis in the ads placed by the Muslim group.

OK, so I'm in a reminiscent mood lately and I have another goodie to share--so sue me.

I hope you will indulge me for another one of my musical remembrances from the mid-70s.

These moods come and go. So, if you don't like my songs, it will pass.

But if you do like them, I hope you are as gratified by the memories as I am.

Wow, I came across this one recently, and I was immediately taken back to an era when things were in a whirlwind. I was super busy, going to college, ministering at a church as a Music Director and Assistant Pastor, and volunteering for Bill Buckley's Young Americans for Freedom. I also wrote a newspaper column for 7 newspapers in South Carolina. And I was chosen to be Treasurer for the local Rotary Club of which I was a member, the youngest man ever to hold an official position with the club.

Sometimes I think all this activity was designed in part to keep me from dealing with my feelings, which were very deep and overwhelming, and which at the time were caught in a whirlwind mixture of excitement about the future and at the same time a deep and abiding sadness over the end of a relationship that I had essentially put all of my internal energy into.

Much of the time I would not allow myself the time to stop long enough to think about the sadness and loss. But during those occasional moments of solitude, or when a song would come on the radio, or I drove by a place that held great significance, the grief would come flooding over me in a dark tsunami. Yet I was drawn to certain songs that got me in touch with those feelings.

I shared one with you earlier in the week. This is another one. I remember vividly sitting in the room with the radio on, when I would be reading something important, and suddenly this particular song would come on, and everything would stop. Then, the tears.

Somehow this song captured exactly what I was going through--the need to deny my feelings, to claim they were not valid, and yet the ever-present reality that those feelings were real and were not going away.

I did not put this video together, so the young woman whose picture is in the vid is not the person connected with me at all. I don't even know who that is...just FYI.

Here is the song--"I'm Not In Love" by 10cc.

Click on the link at the top of the vid to view full size on YouTube.

Labor secretary pressed on suspicious jobs report

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is under increasing fire today concerning the suspicious September jobs report showing that unemployment fell from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent -- the largest drop in 30 years.

Solis appeared on CNBC this morning, where she was pressed by reporters to explain the sharp drop that no one, not even government economists, had predicted.

CNBC reports that today they were bombarded with calls, faxes, and emails from viewers across the country from people claiming that the government is lying about the figures just prior to the election and that the dramatic drop in unemployment defies all reasonable explanation.

Pundits across spectrum agree debate a game changer

Common wisdom among political pundits prior to Wednesday night's debate between Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and President Obama had it that Romney needed a game changer in this race, a moment side by side with Obama that would change perceptions and put the momentum on his side.

He got it last night, according to pundits from across the political spectrum from liberal to conservative.

Not only did Romney decimate Obama in the opinion surveys conducted just after the debate, but noted liberals such as James Carville, Chris Matthews, Van Jones, and others noted the stark manner in which Romney demonstrated the length and breadth of his grasp of the issues. Obama, on the other hands, often appeared befuddled and even angry.

Fairness of debate moderators questioned

Even before the first question is asked in tonight's presidential debate between Republican nominee Mitt Romney and President Obama, questions are already being raised concerning the fairness of the debate moderators, all of whom are a part of the traditionally liberal mainstream media.

Newsbusters today asked if it is possible for Jim Lehrer in particular, the moderator of tonight's debate, to be fair toward Mitt Romney given that Romney has advocated eliminating the federal tax subsidy for PBS, the network for which Lehrer works.

Nearly two years have gone by since investigative reporters David Codrea and Mike Vanderboegh first broke the story of the Fast and Furious scandal in December of 2010. ObamaCare fines for hospitals begin today

One of the key provisions of the ObamaCare law that could result in drastic cuts to hospitals for treating the elderly and the poor will kick in today. In an attempt to rein in the costs of medical care which many critics say will hurt the elderly and the poor the most, the ObamaCare law will now mandate as of Oct. 1, 2012 that patients who need to return to the hospital for follow-up admissions within 30 days of discharge may not get the level of care they have come to expect.

The new provision will place fines on hospitals for treating returning patients who are readmitted within 30 days after discharge. Critics say that this will lead to serious declines in both the level and quality of care rendered to patients.
