Vanderboegh: "Black-robed scoundrels strike again" on Gunwalker scandal

In a stunning Friday afternoon ruling that allows the ATF--the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives--to continue with the scandal and its consequences surrounding the 'Project Gunwalker' scheme, a federal judge has decided to allow the bureau to proceed with its new 'long-gun' regulations, mandating firearms sales registration for anyone buying over 2 long guns in a 24 hour period in the states along the Mexican border.
Mike Vanderboegh, the reporter who first broke the Gunwalker scandal, also known as 'Operation Fast and Furious, stated in response to the ruling, "The black-robed scoundrels strike again."

Politics and the Tebow intermission

In what is sure to provide a refreshing intermission from the non-stop political coverage that is standard for an election year such as this, famed quarterback Tim Tebow and his Denver Broncos will square off against the New England Patriots tonight in prime time in what TV execs say could the highest rated playoff game ever.
Interest in the game is at a fever pitch on the strength of Tebow's nationwide popularity as a Christian who is unashamed and unafraid to take a public stand for his faith. It certainly doesn't hurt that the Denver quarterback is exceptional in his game, just as he was when he rose to fame during his college days as the star quarterback for the Florida Gators.
The highly respected veteran Oklahoma journalist, Mike McCarville, provides an insightful article today on the Tiebow factor and its inherent intermission from the news of politics.

Ron Paul Surges in South Carolina

One week from tomorrow voters will go to the polls in South Carolina to express their preference as to who will face Barack Obama in the 2012 Presidential campaign. In-state polling organizations have indicated that the race is so volatile that it is virtually impossible to track voter preference. But one organization released a poll today that indicates dramatic movement in the Republican race in South Carolina.
Ron Paul has surged dramatically in recent days. Until now, the Texas Congressman garnered roughly 9% support in the polls. Today's poll, however, shows that Paul has skyrocketed to 20% of voter support in the state.
If the present trend continues Paul could surge into first place between now and next Saturday when voters go to the polls.

Romney insures ObamaCare is no issue

The dirty little secret that political pundits inside the beltway keep under their hats is that if Mitt Romney becomes the Republican nominee, it will insure that ObamaCare is not an issue in the general election campaign against Barack Obama. Already the issue has been placed on the back burner by the RNC and the major candidates running for the GOP nomination, and the subject is barely mentioned anymore in the mainstream media or on Fox News.
Why?
The answer is RomneyCare.
If Romney has an Achilles' Heel, and he has several, it would be his Massachusetts based version of government controlled healthcare, a program he implemented and still supports today.

The mystery and the majesty.

It's over at the ministry site.

Reality-check: why Romney is the likely nominee

Although the volatility of the polls during the Republican primary season indicates that anything could happen, the reality is that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will be the likely nominee to face Barack Obama in November. The reason is much more than the mere fact that he won big in New Hampshire yesterday. It's the money. The big money.
But first it is important to understand Romney from a purely traditional conservative point of view. He is no real conservative in the traditional sense but a Republican from the old eastern liberal establishment cabal in the tradition of Nelson Rockefeller, Gerald Ford, and Henry Kissinger. This is in stark contrast to Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, and modern conservatives such as Jim DeMint.
Since 1976 establishment Republicans have not fared well in Presidential campaigns. Ford lost to Carter in 1976. Reagan beat the establishment elites who opposed him in 1980 and went on to beat Carter in a landslide that year. Four years later he beat Mondale in an even larger landslide.

Live-reporting the New Hampshire GOP primary, with continuous updates

Republicans in New Hampshire have been going to the polls today to cast their votes for their preferences in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination. Conservative Examiner will be live-reporting the results this evening, along with continuous live updates.
Perhaps the biggest story to watch is the Jon Huntsman surge. Huntsman has spent more time in New Hampshire than any other candidate, and there are signs today that he may surge past Ron Paul for a 2nd place finish, behind Mitt Romney.

Live Updates from the New Hampshire Primary

This evening I will be reporting the results of the New Hampshire Republican Primary, with live updates, at Examiner.com.

Most of the polls will close at 7 PM Eastern while a few will close at 8.

Can Ron Paul Win in South Carolina?

As New Hampshire Republicans go to the polls today to vote for who they prefer as the GOP nominee to run against Barack Obama in November, it is assumed that Mitt Romney will win the state by a comfortable margin. But in the South Carolina primary, the next stop on the Republican schedule a week from Saturday, a big question mark looms over the vote, and a Ron Paul victory is entirely possible.
According to several national polling organizations, including Rasmussen, Romney jumped into the lead in South Carolina following his razor-thin victory in Iowa. It was assumed, further, that with Romney's decisive win today in New Hampshire, the momentum he would carry would make a victory in South Carolina inevitable.
But a major in-state polling organization indicates nothing of the sort.

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

David Codrea speculates on what's going on with Eric Holder and the ATF officials he sidelined prior to the next hearings on the Gunwalker scandal. The plot just keeps on getting thicker.

Kurt Hofmann reports on the shooting of an 8th grader with a pellet gun and the ensuing calls from the anti-gun bigots to enact 'pellet gun control' laws.

Mike Vanderboegh has an example of 'mind-numbing ignorance' on the part of an anti-gun bigot and his blatant case of hoplophobia.

Cop killing in Arizona connected to Fast and Furious?

Yesterday morning at 4 a.m. in Maricopa County, Arizona a veteran sheriff's deputy was shot to death with a high-powered rifle after responding to a report of a burglary at a strip mall in Anthem, near Interstate Highway 17. Deputies at the scene say that the perpetrator came out of nowhere, sending a spray of bullets their way.
But what makes the story of potential national significance is the fact that under the surface there is talk that the gun used to kill the deputy may be a 'Fast and Furious' weapon that the Obama Administration placed into the hands of Mexican drug cartels in its 'Project Gunwalker' scheme that has now become perhaps the single biggest scandal in the history of American politics.

The loser in last night's Republican debate

If one is to believe the ABC News team of analysts following last night's Republican debate in New Hampshire, then one would have to buy into the notion that everyone on the platform lost but Mitt Romney. The reason? Nobody 'went after' Romney with negative attacks.
In one unified chorus the team of analysts concluded that since no one attacked Romney directly, then they all have conceded that he is the presumed nominee and have essentially deliberately passed up a golden opportunity to gain on the New Hampshire front runner by attacking him relentlessly.
Yet the 'morning after' commentators on the debate appear to see it very differently. In scanning the various op-eds and opinion pieces in the newspapers and online news sites, one is struck by the strong sentiment of many observers who believe that...

The Demise of the Republican Party?

Since early 2010 this writer has warned Republicans that if Mitt Romney is the nominee in 2012, it will spell disaster for the Party and for the country. Conservatives don't like him. Ron Paul supporters, who are legion, will not vote for him. And Obama will use RomneyCare to hang him in the general election. It is logically impossible to defend RomneyCare while at the same time condemning ObamaCare. This poses a major hurdle for Romney that is nearly impossible to mount.
But at least one political observer with plenty of inside sources in the government believes that not only is the prospect for a Romney ticket a disaster for the 2012 Presidential election, but it is also a disaster for the Republican Party as a whole. Making Romney the nominee will spell the demise of the Republican Party, according to this source.

Obama administration cooks the books on unemployment?

In a stunning announcement that the mainstream media and the Obama Administration are using to tout the 'success' of the Administration's jobs growth program, the labor board's statistics show a dramatic improvement in the jobless rate for December, down to 8.5%.  The figures show that 200,000 jobs were created in December, which points to the fact that the Obama plan is 'working.'
But not so fast. A quick fact-check will reveal serious problems with the numbers released by the government.

Well, so much for THAT rumor!

Newt Gingrich attacked Rick Santorum today. Thus, the bright idea somebody had as reported yesterday that the 2 had reached a non-aggression pact appears to be entirely bogus.

On the other hand, disinformation in politics is routine. Gingrich may have attacked just to 'prove' that he and Santorum had no agreement, when it fact they do.

The proof will be in the pudding as we go forward.

Oh, and, by the way, Gingrich has dropped to 3rd place in South Carolina after having a big lead only a month ago. That may explain why he is attacking Santorum, agreement or not. He has to.

Beltway Rumors--the Gingrich-Santorum Pact

Politico is reporting this afternoon that Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum have reached a mutual 'non-aggression' agreement, and have forged an alliance to prevent Mitt Romney from getting the Republican nomination for President.

It is also whispered that the two will launch a 2-pronged attack--one at Romney and the other at Barack Obama.

This means 3 things basically:

1. Santorum and Gingrich will turn up the heat on Romney in New Hampshire, which will cut into the former Massachusetts Governor's lead. Romney's negative ads in Iowa hurt Gingrich so much that he dropped from first place in the polls to 4th. The Gingrich and Santorum camps believe that turning negative on Romney will bump him off of his perch as the front-runner in NH, especially since it will be coming from TWO of Romney's opponents.

2. Gingrich and Santorum will shield themselves from attacks launched by their campaigns. With the alliance formed, the two can focus all of their negative ads and attacks on Romney, allowing Gingrich and Santorum to escape damaging rhetoric except that which will be launched by Romney.

3. The 2-man alliance can form a powerful united voice against Barack Obama, showing that the two can look beyond engaging in negative attacks on Romney to the ultimate prize, which is making Obama a one-term President.

Will it work? That remains to be seen. But you can bet that double-pronged negative attacks against Romney WILL cause him to lose support. Despite what Americans say about negative ads, apparently they do not believe their own words. The ads work extremely well as shown in election after election.

A rank stench now emanates from the White House that should give any freedom-loving American an acute case of panic. Even liberals who have an affinity for Obama's ideological slant should be concerned, for they too are at risk in this growing climate of unprecedented power-grabs by an Executive Branch that is apparently raging out of control.

Bachmann leaves race rated number one

After her disappointing 6th place finish in the Iowa Caucuses last evening, U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann announced today that she is dropping out of the race. She leaves the race, however, rated number one in the Conservative Examiner's exclusive Presidential Rating Scale.
Bachmann had high hopes after she won the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa back in August. But she failed to capitalize on her momentum following the poll, and her numbers went into a free-fall.
Nonetheless, Bachmann leaves the race on top when it comes to her stance on the issues.

The Iowa photo-finish and what it means

It was perhaps the most dramatic squeaker in modern American politics--a photo-finish right down to the wire. The Iowa Republican Caucuses proved to be a politico's paradise as three candidates battled for first place during much of the evening Tuesday night, and with two duking it out for the win during the last 2 hours of the count.
Rick Santorum was able to capitalize on his momentum in the last days of the Iowa campaign, surging into first place for a significant portion of the evening. Romney stayed on his heels most of the way. And Ron Paul finished a strong 3rd within 2 percentage points of the top two candidates.
But it was Romney who came out on top in the end--by only 8 votes...

Ear to the ground in Iowa on the eve of caucuses

On the eve of the Iowa caucuses in which the very first actual votes will be cast in the 2012 Presidential election cycle, those with the 'ear to the ground' in the state are largely struck by the unusually large number of undecided voters in what is perhaps the most volatile political climate in modern U.S. history.
Iowans are slated to choose tomorrow the one they wish to be the Republican nominee to go up against Barack Obama in November. But pollsters are unanimous in their observation that well over 30%, and upwards of 40% of GOP voters are either undecided or could easily change their minds before casting their votes tomorrow.
Such a volatile climate led one longtime grassroots organizer in the state to observe that 'anything can happen,' particularly with Rick Santorum's late and unexpected surge into 3rd place in the polls.
Caree Severson, of Ames, Iowa has been active in pushing for a Sarah Palin candidacy but threw her support behind Herman Cain after the former Alaska governor announced she would not run. After Cain's exit, Severson joined the Ron Paul team.

How Iowa works as first test of Presidential candidates

Next Tuesday represents the very first test of the strength of the Republican Presidential candidates as the Iowa caucuses are held. The caucuses represent the first time that actual votes are cast in the 2012 Presidential election.
Today the final poll was taken prior to the caucuses, and it's results will be released by the Des Moines Register at 7 PM today.
Earlier polls taken Friday and early today indicate that the race is volatile. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are running neck and neck in a dead-heat. Rick Santorum has surged, according to several polls, catapulting into second place on the strength of his support among Christian evangelicals--a significant demographic in the state.
Many Americans wonder why so much emphasis is placed on Iowa. Relatively speaking the state is small and overshadowed by surrounding states such as Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin...

Mainstream media floats notion that GOP race is 'over already'

In a curious piece in the mainstream media yesterday, E.J. Dionne, Jr. of the Washington Post floated the notion that the GOP race for the Republican Presidential nomination 'may be over already.'
Dionne contends that with Mitt Romney's margin of victory in the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 10 and a possible squeaker victory in Iowa next Tuesday, the former Massachusetts Governor would have the 'one-two punch' necessary to propel him to the nomination with very little serious opposition.
Romney has a 20-point lead over the second place contender in New Hampshire. And some polls in Iowa show that he has overtaken Ron Paul, although within the margin of error, for first place.
But Dionne is not the only pundit saying that Romney may have the nomination wrapped up....

Ron Paul defectors create group to train grassroots delegates to GOP convention

In an exclusive Conservative Examiner interview, a Ron Paul insider disclosed today that he has defected from the Texas Congressman's campaign. He further disclosed that a new organization is being formed that will train grassroots delegates to the Republican convention next summer as a means of strengthening the voices of conservatives who adhere to Constitutional principles.
Mike Ridgway, formerly of Utah and currently living in St. Louis, is a long-time Ron Paul supporter and activist in Republican Party politics. However, Ridgway states that the controversy over newsletters that the Congressman sent to potential supporters in the past contain a major stumbling block to his continuing to work in the Paul campaign.
Critics say the newsletters pander to racists.
Although the candidate himself states that he had nothing to do with writing the controversial portions of the newsletters in question, Ridgway maintains that Paul's refusal to do anything about those who did is tantamount to Penn State's former football coach Joe Paterno's failure to be proactive in removing those accused of child abuse from his staff, leading to his resignation.

Is Ron Paul the New 'Anti-Romney?'

Despite the fact that Mitt Romney has failed to garner over 27% of Republican support, even when he was the 'front-runner' in the race for the GOP nomination for President, the candidate still manages to hang on to widespread support. Part of the reason is the failure of candidates who have been dubbed as 'the anti-Romney.'
One by one the more conservative candidates in the field have dropped by the wayside. Bachmann began strong but then plummeted. Rick Perry has lost most of the early support he gained when he first announced. Herman Cain was forced out of the race due to some dirty tricks that appear to be purely politically motivated. Newt Gingrich is now showing signs of slippage in the polls. The one conservative that remains who has enough support to mount a serious bid, should Gingrich fail, is Ron Paul.
Romney, no doubt, has been the main beneficiary of the decline of the other candidates. But the untold news story within the story is that so has Ron Paul. Dr. Paul's numbers have done nothing but rise from out of the cellar as others have fallen by the wayside and as Republican voters have begun to realize that unless a conservative emerges who can garner widespread support, and soon, they will be stuck with Romney as the nominee.

An urgent fact-check is needed at this point in the run up to the 2012 Presidential election. While the Republican candidates battle it out, what is Obama doing? He is winning the public relations game with statistics. How? By sleight-of-hand techniques designed to hide the real facts behind the figures. The Obama team has set the template for 2012, and their mouthpieces in the mainstream media are helping propagate the message.

Report--'new' medical ethics endanger individual human life

In the traditional Judeo-Christian understanding of human life upon which American society is based, the centrality and importance of the individual is key. However, with changes in the law looming just around the corner, that commonly accepted understanding is about to be discarded in favor of the collectivist notion of 'the good of society,' according to two prominent physicians writing today in the American Thinker.
Such ethics endanger individual human life if it is determined that the individual's need to live is trumped by the greater needs of the society as a whole, such as the need to contain the costs of healthcare.
Dr. Jerome Arnett, M.D., a pulmonologist in Helvetia, West Virginia, and Dr John Dale Dunn, M.D., a specialist in Emergency Medicine in Brownwood, Texas, believe that ObamaCare represents a grave danger to the notion that physicians are bound by their duty, first and foremost, to the individual patient.

A Modern Christmas Tale

The story recounted below was first told by the late, great conservative broadcaster, Paul Harvey, in the early 1980s. It has been retold by countless others, many referring to it as 'The Parable of the Birds.'
But it has been years since I have heard or seen it. So maybe it's time that it be retold yet again to a new generation that may not have heard it. I simply call it 'A Modern Christmas Tale.'
One Christmas Eve in rural Minnesota a family was getting ready to attend the special holiday service at the church nearby. The man of the house, a farmer and businessman, poured himself a drink and relaxed by the fire, bidding his family farewell as they left for church.

A Very Special Song for You

This is one of the most special Christmas songs ever written. It is not a traditional carol, but it could be. The music is provided by the Gaither Vocal Band and it features baritone Mark Lowry. This has become Mark's 'signature song.' Take the time to watch it. It will do you good!

Trends--why more Americans will get guns for Christmas

If current trends are any indication, a significant portion of the American population will more than likely either get a gun for Christmas, or buy one for themselves during the holiday season. Gun and ammunition sales are skyrocketing in a trend that began in the summer of 2008 in the run-up to the Presidential election.
In a report issued today at Townhall, current trends indicate that Americans are stocking up on 3 items--guns, ammo, and gold. The reason? Economic and political uncertainty.

Breaking Gunwalker news--Dem announces DHS probe, Border Patrol head resigns

Several breaking stories regarding the Project Gunwalker scandal, also known as Operation Fast and Furious, indicate that the investigation into the scandal is set to vastly intensify. Senator Joe Lieberman, long-time Democrat who is now an Independent but caucuses with Democrats, has announced a probe into Department of Homeland Security 'mis-communication' with other agencies involved in the scandal. At roughly the same time as the Lieberman announcement, Border Patrol head Alan D. Bersin suddenly and unexpectedly tendered his resignation.
Lieberman chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.
Yet a 3rd breaking news story contains several nuggets of information that indicate a major problem for the Obama Administration in the new year.

A Conservative Blueprint for America

Conservatives are known for several non-negotiables--among these being smaller government, lower taxes, reductions in spending by the federal government, the primacy of the Constitution as the ultimate rule of law in this nation, maximum individual rights that are unhindered by unnecessary government restrictions, and a strong national defense.
Based upon these non-negotiables it is possible to devise a conservative blueprint for America that encapsulates each of the principles stated above.

Source: "The GOP field may not be set"

According to a long-time political operative who has no official Party affiliation but only describes himself as an 'independent conservative,' the GOP field of candidates may not be set. "I have a feeling," he said, "that the Republicans may well end up choosing as their candidate someone who has not yet entered the race."
The source has worked for both Republicans and Democrats and considers himself to be a libertarian conservative, although he is not a member of the Libertarian Party. When asked if he were presently working for a candidate he stated, "No, no one who would be considered nationally, that is. I am current working for someone who is running for a local office."
When asked the reasons for his view that someone yet unnamed may enter the race very late in the game and go on to win the nomination, his answer presents a clear dilemma for Republicans elites who would like to 'wrap up the nomination' well in advance of next summer's national convention. Most Republicans voters, according to every poll taken, have not made up their minds about which candidate to support.

The 'Jews in the Attic' Test

In recent days the federal government has unleashed a barrage of new laws, proposals, and policy initiatives that beg the question, "Does this pass the 'Jews in the attic' test?"
The test is the idea of gun-rights advocate Joe Huffman, who in 2009 suggested that any new law, proposal, rule, or policy initiative of government should be forced to pass the 'Jews in the attic' test before being implemented. In a nutshell, the test asks the question, "Will this law make it difficult or impossible to protect innocent life from a government intent on their imprisonment or death?"
During the Nazi occupation of much of Europe prior to and during WWII, untold numbers of Christians and other concerned persons engaged in harboring, hiding, and arranging for the safe passage of Jews who were being hunted down by the Nazis throughout Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, France, and other Nazi-dominated areas of the continent.

Democrats introduce bill attacking free speech

On Thursday of this week, two Democratic Senators, Chuck Schumer of New York and Ben Cardin of Maryland, introduced legislation in the U.S. Senate that directly attacks free speech. Called 'the Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act of 2011,' the bill would criminalize 'misleading' or 'intentional false information' published or broadcast concerning voting eligibility and the time and place for voting, within 90 days of an election.
In introducing the bill, Cardin stated that the First Amendment protection of free speech does not include 'fraudulent' speech, according to a report issued by CNS News Service.
While the bill is aimed at preventing the disenfranchisement of voters inherent in feeding them disinformation, critics say that the law would open a Pandora's box of abuses by government that would directly infringe on the right to free speech.

Empire Strikes Back: DOJ to Audit Reporter's Emails

Is it a case of retaliation? Why would the Department of Justice audit the emails of an investigative reporter? The answer has all the trappings associated with the meme, 'The empire strikes back,' suggesting punitive action against a citizen who would dare cultivate sources in very high places in government and then publish news from those sources concerning that government--information which places it in a negative light.
Citizen investigative reporter Mike Vanderboegh was the very first, along with National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea, to break the story of the Gunwalker, or Fast and Furious, scandal back in December of 2010. Now Vanderboegh is the subject of a DOJ audit of all of his emails, as he reported today.
In the months that have followed Vanderboegh has been meticulous in establishing and cultivating sources--good sources--which is a must for any reporter. These sources are in the highest levels of government, including those who are continuing to investigate the Gunwalker scandal for Congress.

Bill of Rights Day

On December 15 we mark one of the most important dates in American history, yet it is one with which I am sure many of you may not be familiar. The 'Bill of Rights Day' is celebrated on December 15, and the fact that this date in history is one of the most unnoticed and ignored speaks volumes about the U.S. educational system.

Since 1941 the ratification of the Bill of Rights has been commemorated in this country on December 15. Yet today, I am sure that the average guy on the street has no clue that one of the most significant events in human history happened on that day...thanks to the dumbing down of the educational system and the failure of modern politicians to give proper recognition to the basic rights we all are guaranteed in the United States of America.

The original Constitution, ratified in 1788, had no Bill of Rights. The fledgling young Republic had just managed to fight off the British for their independence and declare themselves a new nation united by a commonly accepted rule of law--the U.S. Constitution. Yet long before the Constitution was ratified many of the Founders insisted that the document would be woefully incomplete without protecting certain individual rights. One of these was James Madison, who was elected by Virginia to the first Congress upon the promise that he would work for a Bill of Rights.

George Mason, also of Virginia, refused to sign the original Constitution precisely because it contained no Bill of Rights. Mason had written a Bill of Rights for the state of Virginia which many other states used to adopt their own Bill of Rights.

Patrick Henry had originally opposed the inclusion of the Bill. Revisionist historians often use Henry as some sort of proof that the Founders were not in agreement about the rights that should be guaranteed to the citizens. Nothing could be further from the truth. Henry also opposed the Constitution. But this was not due to anything other than his opposition to a centralized government of any kind, believing instead that such power should be reserved for the states.

It is also to be noted that in spite of Patrick Henry's initial opposition, he would later change his mind and work for both the U.S. Constitution and for the ratification of the Bill of Rights.

Having succeeded in getting a Constitution approved by the states, the Founders went to work on a document that would protect the rights with which each citizen had been endowed by their Creator. The Bill does not 'grant' or 'give' rights. The rights are automatically inherent in our very existence. The Constitution PROTECTS these basic, inherent rights.

In 1789 the Bill of Rights was written in Federal Hall in New York City, which at the time was the capital of the U.S. The first Congress was made up of 26 Senators and 65 Representatives from the 13 states. On September 25, 1789, Congress passed 12 amendments to the Constitution which would be called the Bill of Rights. In October of that year President George Washington sent a copy of the 12 amendments to the states for their approval.

From October of 1789 until December of 1791 the thirteen states debated the amendments. By the time the amendments had made their rounds the original 12 amendments were whittled down to 10. On December 15, 1791, Virginia became the eleventh state to ratify the 10 amendments, and thus, according to the provisions of amending the Constitution, the Bill of Rights became part of the supreme law of the land.

During these days when collectivist revisionists see no inherent individual rights in the Bill of RIGHTS, it is vitally important to note that the sole motivation of the Founders in insisting on the Bill was the protection of INDIVIDUAL rights. It is impossible, for example, for someone to make a valid philosophical argument claiming that the 2nd Amendment does nothing but establish a militia, when the whole idea of the Bill to begin with was to protect the INDIVIDUAL rights of citizens.

Thus, on this December 15 let each of us as Americans give thought to the basic philosophical premise that motivated the Founders--that each individual American is free, and as such, we are guaranteed the protection of certain specified individual rights. If no such guarantee exists, then the whole notion of establishing a free Republic was in vain.

New law negates Constitutional protections of citizens

A new law approved by Congress and signed by Barack Obama yesterday essentially negates the 4th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, regarding unreasonable searches and seizures, the requirement for a warrant prior to arrest, and the prohibition of arrest and detainment without due process of law.
Called 'the National Defense Authorization Act' (NDAA), the new law allows the military to detain U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism indefinitely, without a trial. For the first time since the Civil War the U.S. military will have the authority to engage in the pursuit and detention of suspected criminals on American soil.
Although the specific language of the original bill does not expand the powers of the President to detain citizens indefinitely without a trial, proponents of the new law say that in its final form it is designed to codify recent court decisions that would do exactly that, giving the President the authority to designate citizens as 'enemy combatants' who could then be detained without a warrant or trial, and sent to the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba along with some of the most dangerous terrorists in the world.

U.S. Economy: "It's Twice as Bad as We Thought"

Two significant reports issued late today indicate that the U.S. economy is in much worse shape than what the American people have been told. When one local economist was asked to comment on the news, he stated, "It's twice as bad as we thought."
A closer look at the figures led to a revision of that assessment, however, but the fact remains that in many cases Realtors somehow double-counted home sales.
Two significant pieces of information were released that show not only is the economy significantly worse than anyone realized but it is poised to get even worse, in spite of so-called 'hopeful signs' rolled out by the Obama Administration in recent weeks.
First, the National Association of Realtors reported today that sales of existing homes have been 'double-counted' since 2007. From CNBC:

The Hargoosh Herald is a new aggregator site for all the news of interest to conservatives. I like it better than Drudge because most of it comes from sources that are liberty-and-rights friendly.

Patriots Duty has an excellent read entitled, 'Kansas, Roosevelt, Brown, and Obama.' It has to do with John Brown and Obama's speech in Kansas that provides an important lesson.

Mike McCarville has news on polling data that shows that although Gingrich is ahead, there is good reason for him to be concerned, as is true for ALL of the so-called 'front-runners.'

Squeaks comments on the bill in Congress about detaining citizens without a warrant, without placing them under arrest, or granting them due process. Good info here!

Breaking--Issa to Grill Burke About Gunwalker Today

Due to the fact that his previous interview before Congress was cut short back in the summer, former Arizona district U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke will be grilled by Congressman Darrell Issa today in a hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, according to a report in Roll Call.
It was Burke who perhaps became the most indignant when asked by Senator Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, about the Gunwalker scandal earlier this year. Said Burke,
“What is so offensive about this whole project is that Grassley’s staff, acting as willing stooges for the gun lobby, have attempted to distract from the incredible success in dismantling [Southwest border] gun trafficking operations,” Burke told Justice Department lawyers who were preparing a response.
Pushing lawyers to “categorical[ly]” deny the allegations, Burke bristled when other officials raised the “risks” of an aggressive denial. “What risk?” Burke wrote to colleagues.

The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Monday, December 12, 2011

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

David Codrea reports ominous news that the U.N. Global Arms Trade Treaty will be ready by summer. And if the U.S. goes along, as Hillary and Obama wish to do, it WILL restrict our own Constitutional right to bear arms within this nation.

Kurt Hofmann notes that newspapers are still getting the Gunwalker story all wrong and are instead picking up the Administration meme that the blame rests with gun shop owners and lax U.S. gun laws.

Mike Vanderboegh has a Sipsey Street Irregulars exclusive on the Gunwalker story.

WRSA provides some links that prove the notion, 'It can't happen here,' is entirely false.

CLO declares that Democrats will even commit murder to further their agenda. Well, yeah. Gunwalker proves it.

Alphecca says that down in Florida, all they want for Christmas is a gun. Works for me!

Way Up North posts some 'things you probably don't know.' Go take a look.

Brigid laments the 'politically correct' Christmas.

Every Blade of Grass has the 'Fiocchi Canned Heat 45ACP Range Test.' Interesting.

Days of our Trailers provides a curious post on 'Blago and Gun Control'--the convicted criminal and former Governor was a big gun control advocate.

Why Newt is Right on 'Invented' Palestinians

Republican Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich created a firestorm last week when he stated that there is no such thing as 'Palestine' and thus, the 'Palestinians' are an 'invented' people. The controversy spilled over into the Republican Presidential debate Saturday night on ABC News when Gingrich reiterated his contention and further stated that Palestinians are terrorists.
The charge is actually two separate allegations that are to be considered separately.
First, from an historical perspective Gingrich is absolutely right. There is no such thing as 'Palestine' and the 'Palestinians' were a creation of 20th century meddlers in the region.
How do we know this is true?
None other than the top Arab leaders of the region said so themselves.

How Serious is the Threat of Impeachment for Eric Holder?

During a highly-publicized hearing on Thursday of this week, Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wisconsin, dropped the dreaded 'I' word on Attorney-General Eric Holder. Sensenbrenner told Holder that unless satisfactory answers were provided to 'clean up the mess' left in the wake of the Operation Fast and Furious scandal, then impeachment would be considered as a possible consequence.
