How Iowa works as first test of Presidential candidates


Next Tuesday represents the very first test of the strength of the Republican Presidential candidates as the Iowa caucuses are held. The caucuses represent the first time that actual votes are cast in the 2012 Presidential election.
Today the final poll was taken prior to the caucuses, and it's results will be released by the Des Moines Register at 7 PM today.
Earlier polls taken Friday and early today indicate that the race is volatile. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are running neck and neck in a dead-heat. Rick Santorum has surged, according to several polls, catapulting into second place on the strength of his support among Christian evangelicals--a significant demographic in the state.
Many Americans wonder why so much emphasis is placed on Iowa. Relatively speaking the state is small and overshadowed by surrounding states such as Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin...
