Gruesome murders indicate worsening drug cartel violence

Friday was the deadliest day yet in the drug cartel wars near the southern border in Mexico as 23 people were found dead in a gruesome outbreak of violence.
Fourteen headless bodies were discovered stuffed inside a van near the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, which is located just across the border from Laredo, Texas. Nine more bodies were found hanging from a bridge along a major highway in the area, much to the horror of motorists.
The heads of the fourteen found in the van were stuffed into ice boxes and left outside of city hall in Nuevo Laredo, one mile from the U.S. border.

Southern Poverty Law Center admits it does not monitor 'the extreme Left'

In a stunning display of candor the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) of Montgomery, Alabama admitted today that it does not monitor "the extreme Left" although for years the organization has billed itself as a watchdog of hate groups.
The admission came during a phone interview conducted by Charles C.W. Cooke of National Review, during which Cooke asked a spokesman for SPLC if the organization had plans to begin to track the Occupy movement in light of the foiled terrorist attempt to blow up a bridge in Cleveland, Ohio.
The suspects who were arrested in the case are connected directly to the Occupy movement.
According to Cooke the person who first answered his call at SPLC appeared stunned by the question. She then transferred him to a representative who was conducting an international conference on right wing extremism.

David Codrea reminds the national media that it is vitally important that they get the origins of the Fast and Furious story right. He should know. He and Vanderboegh broke the story.

Paul launches effort to end TSA

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has launched a campaign that would abolish the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and end the federal government's involvement in airport security altogether.
The Senator announced the campaign today in an article sent to the members of Campaign for Liberty in which he stated that he intends to introduce legislation that would end the agency. He asks citizens to sign a petition in support of the drive.
Paul was detained by the TSA earlier this year at an airport when he refused to submit to an invasive pat down. He had already passed through a full body scanner.
The incident became national headline news. Some conservatives believed that Paul was singled out by the TSA due to his criticism of the agency on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Murder of Mexican lawyer with Fast and Furious gun regains spotlight

In the course of the investigation into the Operation Fast and Furious scandal it has been determined that at least two murders of U.S. agents can be traced to the guns the ATF walked across the border to drug cartels, in addition to the hundreds of Mexicans killed along the border.
Another murder is once again gaining the attention of some media outlets in the aftermath of the Obama Administration's campaign to place U.S. guns in the hands of Mexican criminals in order to create false statistics that could be used as justification for calling for strict gun control laws.

Defying the May Day Commies

Well, I went out today, twice, in fact, to make some purchases.

Big news, eh?

Normally such a mundane matter would not be worth the time, effort, and energy to report it...except for today.

You see, the labor unions, the anarchists, and the Commies wanted May Day to be a day in which workers went on strike and stayed home, not only refusing to go to work but refraining from making purchases at retail outlets. They wanted to 'send a message' that they could bring down the economy.

So, being the highly cooperative soul that I am, I did my part. I went out and did exactly the opposite of what the May Day 'Occupy' Commies said to do.

Not only did I make purchases at retail outlets but I worked as well. I was up early today writing and monitoring the movements of the Occupy thugs around the country. No, I did not stalk them. I never left the house while doing it. But I do keep up with sources who keep their ears to the ground.

So far at least the May Day disruptions did not quite go as well as expected. It seems the movement has lost significant steam since last year. But it is too early to let our guard down. These people are dangerous, and they never really give up.

Bill Ayers is still around, after all, stirring up the pot.

House Judiciary Committee report blasts Holder and DOJ

The House Judiciary Committee issued its official report on the Department of Justice on Monday. The report blasts Attorney General Eric Holder for "partisan ignorance" of the Constitution, and the entire DOJ is cited for the failure to adhere to the law.
Titled "The Obama Administration's Disregard of the Constitution and Rule of Law," the report begins with the following:
The Attorney General is responsible for the enforcement of the laws of the United States and defending the Constitution. Of all agencies in the federal government, the Justice Department should not be motivated by a partisan agenda. Unfortunately, under the Obama administration, the Justice Department has become more partisan than ever.
The House Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over the Justice Department and oversees the actions of the Agency.  The following report gives several high profile examples of how the Justice Department has ignored the Constitution to impose the Administration’s partisan agenda on the American people.

Twitter suspension of conservative sparks protest

On Sunday evening the talk on the social networking siteTwitter was ablaze with outrage over the suspension of a conservative's account after he had defended his wife against a coordinated attack by liberals.
Chris Loesch, the husband of Big Journalism editor and CNN contributor Dana Loesch, had defended his wife against statements directed to her apparently for no other reason than her political ideology.
Apparently his actions were enough to get his account suspended.
Conservatives who witnessed the entire display were livid, claiming that Loesch had not violated any of Twitter's terms of service, nor did he threaten anyone. The liberals attacking him, on the other hand, had engaged in personal threats of violence, according to those who saw the events as they happened, including this reporter.
The conservatives, thus, began to send tweets with the "hashtag" #FreeChrisLoesch. Within two hours the hashtag was trending nationally and had reached the level of the third most tweeted subject on Twitter.

Looming May Day protests indicate Occupy movement escalation

Organizers of the Occupy Wall Street movement plan nationwide May Day protests on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in an escalation of the movement's activity.
A report at Bloomberg on Thursday indicates that the major Wall St. firms have already initiated heightened security and monitoring of the group's movements in anticipation of possible confrontations.
According to Marisa Holmes, a member of the Occupy planning committee, at least 99 firms have been targeted in midtown Manhattan, including JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America.
Protests are scheduled in over 115 cities across America, including San Francisco, where participants state that they will attempt to shut down the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hesitation indicates dissent in GOP on Holder contempt charges

On Thursday of this week the Los Angeles Times reported that the U.S. House of Representatives had drafted a 48-page contempt citation against Attorney General Eric Holder for obstruction and failing to cooperate with an investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal.
Congressman Darrell Issa, R-CA, who chairs the committee conducting the investigation, had told reporters earlier in the week that he planned to proceed with the contempt charges and that the completion of that process would occur in a few weeks, not months.
However, when Issa granted an interview with Fox News' Megyn Kelly yesterday, he appeared to hesitate in answering direct questions concerning the contempt charges. A video of the interview can be accessed here.

Congressman pressures ATF for hassling gun stores

An Alaska Congressman has put the pressure on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for what he termed "hassling" gun stores in his state.
U.S. Congressman Don Young, R-Alaska, sent a letter to the ATF two days ago stating that he has heard from several gun store owners who are complaining that the agency is harassing them to turn over their bound books containing the records of gun and ammunition purchases, the customers' names and addresses, and their official background checks.

Karl Rove predicts Romney loss to Obama

Republican strategist Karl Rove, who is considered the architect of George W. Bush's two successful campaigns for the White House, is predicting that Mitt Romney will have a difficult time beating Barack Obama in the general election in November.
According to Rove, the situation is so dire that if the election were held today, Obama would win handily.
Romney is the presumptive Republican nominee, although he does not yet have enough delegates to win.
Rove is known for his pinpoint accuracy in predicting how the states will vote in general elections. In 2008 he correctly predicted the election results in 48 out of 50 states.

Urgent Prayer Request

I am just now seeing this. Got behind on things today.

But here is a message from David Codrea:

I had business to attend to this morning, and was unable to receive phone calls.  When I was able to reestablish communications, there was a voice mail message from Mike--he said he "had a bad night last night" and "they're taking me into the emergency room."
I called his number 10 minutes ago and his wifeRosey answered.  She said he's having trouble breathing, they're worried some fluid may be getting into his lungs and they're taking him in for another CAT scan.
These folks have been through a lot. Now would be a pretty good time to send another plea up the chain of command.
Folks, if you pray, now would be a good time to send one up for Mike Vanderboegh.

New information names kingpin the FBI protected in Brian Terry murder

The murder of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December of 2010 was the precipitating factor that led to the first news story concerning the now infamous Fast and Furious scandal involving the ATF, the DOJ, and their scheme to send American guns to Mexican drug cartels.
As that story has developed it has become clear that the government agencies involved in the scandal, including the FBI, were keenly interested in hiding certain information concerning Agent Terry's death, the most obvious being that one of the guns found at the murder scene was identified by whistleblower agents as a Fast and Furious gun and that this gun somehow mysteriously disappeared and never made it to the lab for analysis.
New information that has become available within the last 24 hours indicates another major reason the FBI in particular sought to keep the facts concerning Agent Terry's death a secret.

Musings After Midnight: NOW What Are You Gonna Do--Romney's Apparent Smooth Sail to the Nomination and Other Abominations

Welcome to another episode of Musings After Midnight. I intend to speak plainly this evening, so get set. (And I will sometimes address myself to an unnamed numbskull who is actually a composite of several people I know, so don't take it personal and don't assume I am talking about most of you, whom I happen to greatly value and respect).

Let's get right down to business, shall we?

I admit that my chops are chapped over the fact that apparently Mitt Romney is going to sail smoothly right to the Republican nomination, now that he swept all of the contests that were held yesterday, and now that Newt Gingrich has recognized that his bid is essentially over.

As for Ron Paul, as much as I prefer him over Romney, I think his chances of securing the nomination are next to nil, despite his well orchestrated campaign of winning delegates state by state.

He won't have enough to win.

So, as one person asked me today, "NOW what are you gonna do? You made it clear from the start that you can't stomach Romney. You warned the GOP about him time and again. But nobody paid attention. So do you sit this one out? Do you write in a candidate? Do you vote third party? What?"

Let me make it clear I have no intention of sitting out an election. EVER! I have voted in every election since I became eligible to vote...the same year that Moses led the children of Israel across the Red Sea. And now, at my age, I am not going to break that streak. I have formed a habit, and habits are harder to break the closer you get to 60.

So, you can rest assured that I WILL vote.

I know that such a thing seems to go right over the heads of hopelessly hammerheaded imbeciles who think that just because I hate Romney and Obama both, that this means that I will sit at home and refuse to vote. After all, that is the only choice I have, right? I mean, loathe the thought that someone could actually consider voting for a Party OTHER THAN the Republicans or Democrats. And heaven help the poor soul who would even as much as briefly entertain the notion that he would write in a candidate's name who isn't on the ballot.

Excuse me while I get this out.

YOU STUPID PINHEADED LAMEBRAINED NUMBSKULL, THERE IS NOTHING IN THE CONSTITUTION THAT LIMITS VOTES TO  DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS, YOU SORRY ARSED IGNORANT EXCUSE FOR A CITIZEN!

Ahem, citizens have the right to vote FOR WHOEVER THEY WANT.

If I want to vote for the Bull Moose Party, I can.

If I want to write in the name of Jaborangus Armadillus Polygangum, I HAVE THAT RIGHT.

Now, is it always the prudent thing to do to act in such a manner? Well, no, of course not. I doubt that old Jaborangus will get any votes other than mine. That means that my act of writing in his name is a wasted effort, an exercise in complete futility.

But, remember, my dear fellow citizen, you ALWAYS have more than two options when you vote. And don't EVER let ANYBODY tell you otherwise.

Having said that, however, I must address the utility of making such a move.

Is it wise? Is it useful? Does it help? Is it good for the country? Can I live with myself when I do so? Am I being true to conscience?

Here is where the rub comes in. Those questions are not always easy to answer. And sometimes the answers depend on a myriad of factors that make each case different.

I am going to have a VERY hard time pressing Mitt Romney's name on that computer screen in the voting booth. I loathe his record on gun rights, abortion, RomneyCare, immigration, and even taxes and spending. I don't think his proposals go far enough, even in the areas where I can come close to agreeing with him, such as the economy.

And I have often stated that voting for Romney would be a betrayal of my conscience.

So, let's look at other options for consideration, just to follow them through to their logical conclusions.

I am NOT under ANY circumstance voting for Obama. So, that's out.

But, what about a third party or writing in a name?

Frankly, there isn't a third party that I would cast a vote for. I have looked at all of them, and all of them are problematic...every bit as much as the Republicans and Democrats. Every candidate who has ever run on the Libertarian, Constitution, or Reform Party tickets has made statements that to me are every bit as much to be deplored as statements by Romney and Obama.

And some of these Parties have essentially been overtaken by pot heads who strike me as nothing more than rejects from the 60s who claim to be 'libertarian' only so they can work for legalized drug use.

Now, I have a problem with the war on drugs as well, but not for the same reasons as some of these people. I don't want to legalize drugs so I can use without the threat of arrest. I want to decriminalize drugs because I think that prohibition is wrong and doesn't work. There is a vast difference.

I am very uncomfortable around illicit substances. Always have been. I don't like it. I don't like the way people act when they are under the influence of these substances. But that does not mean I think they are criminals or should be in jail.

It also does not mean that I am just hunky dory with their behavior. I am NOT.

So, my support for the repeal of drug laws is NOT based on any ulterior motive of mine regarding 'using.' I do not use. And I think that smart people do not use.

But when I get in some of the groups associated with libertarian oriented people, I feel like I am in a foreign land. I can't relate. So, that makes it very hard for me to vote for a candidate that represents that element.

I know, I know, some of you are going to think I am a complete dork, a 'square,' or too 'straight-laced.' Fine. I don't care. I know who I am and what I am comfortable with. And I don't like to be around people in politics who appear to me to be interested in liberty only for the purpose of being able to fry their brains on whatever substance they wish without facing the possibility of jail time.

Liberty is not about that at all, although allowing people the freedom to fry their brains is a small part of it.

If you want to fry your brain and cause your face to look like a monster because of your meth use, go right ahead. I am not going to stop you. I believe you have the complete freedom to act like a fool in a free society. But that does NOT mean I respect you or think you are someone to be trusted.

I know what is going to happen as a result of these statements. Whenever I do this somebody is going to claim I am falsely portraying Libertarians and being unfair. Fine. Your opinion is yours. Think what you want. But I am simply telling you MY EXPERIENCE and how people come across to ME. Impressions are not necessarily based on fact. Impressions are based on experience and emotional reaction. I am telling you how many within the libertarian movement come across to ME.

If you want me to have a different impression of you, then stop putting candidates out there whose main involvement in the political realm is in the 'cannabis movement.' I mean, really...

And let's get another thing straight as well. Signing mutual defense treaties with allies is NOT a violation of the Constitution, which clearly states it is entirely within the power of the government to enter into such treaties. That means that in many circumstances it is perfectly legal and constitutional to have military bases in other countries, if that is a condition of the signed treaties.

It is also perfectly constitutional for the U.S. military to be the most powerful force in the world. Where does it prohibit it? We HAD to attain military and nuclear superiority. Why? Because the Cold War necessitated it! The Soviet Union was building nuclear weapons and expanding their domain into other countries. Their stated goal was to dominate the world.

To counter such a growing power we HAD to have nukes, the manpower, and the firepower and equipment to stop them. Why did we have to stop them?

Do I really need to tell you people this? Sheesh.

YOU IGNORANT NUMBSKULL, THEIR PRESIDENT TOLD US IN THE 1950s THAT THEY WOULD 'BURY' US!!!

Is that plain enough for you, or do I need to spell it out?

The Soviet Union stated that it would dominate the world and BURY the United States. Now, some of you little wussies out there may think that we should have just rolled over and let them screw us because 'the Constitution does not allow thus and so.' But you are a knucklehead. The Constitution MANDATES the national defense, and WE WERE DIRECTLY THREATENED WITH ANNIHILATION FROM THE SOVIET PRESIDENT NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV!

And do you know what that means, o wise wus?

It means that when the country and its citizens are threatened, the national defense must be strong and powerful enough to succeed in that defense.

Now tell me, imbecile, how in the hell were we going to defend ourselves against a super power like the Soviet Union, which had millions in their army, and tons of nukes, unless we ourselves were more powerful than they?

So the next time you want to wax eloquent about your vast knowledge of the Constitutional provision of the national defense by unleashing your projectile vomit in saying the Constitution never allowed for the U.S. to become a world super power, just stop and tell me how in that tiny, microscopic brain of yours you would defeat an enemy like the Soviet Union unless you became the most powerful military force on earth?!

You see, this is another area where I have little patience with Libertarians.

If you don't show up at a gun fight with a pocket knife, then you SURELY don't show up to fight an enemy that has nukes with fishing boats equipped with muskets. Sheesh. Why am I even taking the time to bother with this? This is, like, Elementary Thought 101.

Back to the subject at hand.

So, if there isn't a Party I am comfortable voting for, that leaves me only two choices left--rethink my intention not to vote for Romney, or write in a candidate.

Frankly, I am angry that these are my choices. I have been warning Republicans for over 3 years against choosing another 'moderate' who lacks solid conservative convictions as the nominee. But they did it again, just like they did with McCain in 2008.

I worked hard to PREVENT us from getting to this point. I did everything in my power to prevent Romney from gaining such traction. But at this point, it appears he is going to be the one, no matter what any of us want.

My first reaction is to walk away and make the GOP pay for its sins by losing the support of conservatives. They screwed us, and they NEED to pay sooner or later.

But I am not sure this is the year to make them pay. Let me explain.

I am thinking out loud here, so none of this is set in cement. I do think that a day of reckoning is long overdue for the GOP. For too long we have allowed them to take conservatives for granted. They have just assumed we would always come through. And because they feel that way, they feel they can do anything they damn well please and not suffer the consequences.

THIS MUST CHANGE.

Republican elites--the ones who have always opposed conservatives such as Reagan, Goldwater, and Buckley--need to be taught a harsh lesson. Screw conservatives and you will get decimated as a Party, completely. Eventually we are going to have to make sure that happens.

But I am not convinced this year is the best time to do it. If we sit this out, or if we turn to a third party, or if we write in a candidate, we may be helping Obama get reelected, and that is the worst thing that could happen for the country.

As I have stated previously, the number one focus in this election is to get rid of Barack Obama. The man is a menace. His supporters are dangerous. His enablers in Congress are traitors. They MUST go. The survival of the country depends on it.

I don't want to do anything to inadvertently help Obama. And no, I am not one of those who believes that voting for someone other than those in the two major parties is a 'wasted vote.' Nonetheless, as we have seen in the past with Ross Perot in 1992, his presence on the ballot gave us Bill Clinton. (I didn't care for George H.W. Bush, either, but he was much better than Clinton).

And so, my friends, I am very much in a quandary. Is a vote for Romney a betrayal of my conscience under the present circumstances (the need to get rid of Obama)?

Would writing in a candidate that I know has no chance of being elected help Obama win reelection, and would that not be an even GREATER betrayal of my conscience?

Life can be very complicated. And this one is a doozy.

I really don't have an answer at this point. But writing it out and sharing it has helped clarify for me what, exactly, the issues are in making an informed decision in this matter.

Stay tuned. I may need to do some more 'thinking out loud' as we go along during the campaign season.

Forecaster says our financial system is a 'casino'

A top economic forecaster who is often called upon by CNN, CNBC, and other news outlets to provide an outlook on the state of the economy says that the entire U.S. financial system is a casino and that "if you don't have your money, it's not yours."
Gerald Celente of Trends Research Institute has been featured on CBS News, Oprah Winfrey, and in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and other major mainstream outlets. He is not considered an alarmist who engages in unnecessary fear mongering.
Thus, when Celente told Mac Slavo in an interview published April 23, 2012 by Lew Rockwell that the U.S. financial system is headed toward complete collapse and that there is very little that can be done to avoid it without drastic and painful measures, economic gurus with their ear to the ground sat up and took notice.

Controversy ensues over new IRS power

A portion of a new highway bill passed by the Senate and expected to be approved by the House, which gives expanded power to the IRS, has sparked controversy.
As reported yesterday the bill gives the agency to power to revoke passports based upon whether or not a citizen owes back taxes. Certain government watchdogs also maintain that the bill would give the IRS the power to revoke gun rights.
The bill is lengthy, 1,674 pages of legalese, that in some places is difficult to follow.
However, those who have decided to pore over those pages, including this reporter, have reached some conclusions that are very different from that of the persons who first provided commentary on the provisions of the bill.

Announcing My New Radio Gig

Lori Hendry has announced that she will launch a new conservative talk radio show on May 19. I will be joining her as commentator, sidekick, and assistant.

The show is set to launch initially on 2 radio stations in Colorado--KRCN AM 1060 in Denver, and KREL AM 1580 in Colorado Springs. We expect the show to expand to other stations very soon.

While doing the 'A Voice for Freedom' radio show in Florida, Lori attracted the attention of some influential people in the business who are interested in promoting her in other parts of the country.

As a former beauty queen who has worked extensively in the pageant business, Lori's engaging personality has been of great benefit to her as she has felt compelled to involve herself in conservative politics. Her commitment to reclaiming the country for Constitutional principles is very real and forms part of the core of her identity.

I consider it a great honor to be able to work with her in developing and implementing this exciting new venture.

Watchdogs say IRS to revoke gun rights and passports

A new bill passed by the Democrat controlled Senate and now headed to the House would give the IRS broad new powers that watchdogs say include revoking gun rights and passports.
The bill, S.1813, is a reauthorization of the federal highway aid, safety, and construction program. But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, and Senator Barbara Boxer, D-CA, added a major provision to the bill regarding the IRS.
The two Senators apparently want the IRS to have the power to revoke the gun rights of citizens and their right to travel if they owe more than $50,000 in back taxes.
But the problem is that the IRS would not be required to prove that a citizen owes $50,000. All it would take is for the IRS to accuse a citizen owing that amount.

Media Matters obfuscates truth of Fast and Furious scandal

As reported yesterday the extremist left wing organization Media Matters, which is underwritten primarily by leftist billionaire George Soros, has embarked on a smear campaign against author Katie Pavlich whose newly published book delineates the crimes committed by the Obama Administration in the Fast and Furious scandal and the subsequent cover up.
The Department of Justice is now referring all of those with questions concerning Fast and Furious to the Media Matters website, which has devoted an entire page to the attempt to discredit Pavlich, implying that her book is full of untruths.
But in researching the claims of Media Matters, this reporter discovered that it is Media Matters that is engaging in a campaign of untruths.
The tactic? Obfuscate the truth by erecting straw men arguments that are of no consequence to the pertinent facts of the Pavlich book and the Fast and Furious operation.

Why is Media Matters helping White House deflect Fast and Furious charges?

Media Matters, a George Soros organization that promotes left wing causes, is now helping the White House deflect charges stemming from the Fast and Furious scandal.
The latest round of allegations against the Obama Administration arise from documentation provided in a new book by Katie Pavlich which indicates a cover up by the federal government regarding the guns used in the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.
In the book Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and It's Shameless Cover-Up, Pavlich focuses on the fact that a third gun was used by the murderers and recovered at the scene by federal agents but never made it to the forensics lab for analysis.
This reporter, along with the two who originally broke the Fast and Furious story, David Codrea and Mike Vanderboegh, have provided extensive evidence over the past 16 months proving that three guns, not two as the government claims, were recovered at the Brian Terry murder scene, and that the third gun is the 'smoking gun' proving that Fast and Furious firearms killed Agent Terry.

Sex and spending spree scandals threaten doom for Dems in 2012

A series of sex and spending spree scandals that has come to light in recent days involving misuse of taxpayer funds threatens doom for the Democrats in the 2012 elections. The latest scandal involves a top North Carolina Democrat who is embroiled in a controversy that could torpedo any chance of an Obama win in what is now considered a swing state.
Obama won North Carolina in 2008.
Former North Carolina Democratic Party Executive Director Jay Parmley, who resigned from his post this week, is accused of sexual harassment by a former staffer.

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

Mike Vanderboegh has news about PATCON and the OKC bombing. Also, while he is feeling some better, he still needs our prayers after his latest setback following surgery.

The War on Guns points to a worthless numbskull who says Ted Nugent should be in jail for simply speaking his mind. This is where the Progressives and Obama-thugs have brought us in this country. I am more convinced than ever that all of this will end in civil war. How can it not? These people want citizens jailed for free speech!

WRSA warns that what's going on in Afghanistan is coming to the streets of America. Better get set.

Gun Owners of America reports that sleazebag Dingy Harry Reid is trying to push through the Senate an anti-gun judge. But remember that the NRA praised Reid during his Senate campaign. Sheesh.

GunRights4US points to a must-see regarding the REAL truth about Gaza, in pictures. Fitting for Holocaust Memorial Day.

Brigid offers an important read on hearing protection during firing range activity.

CLO has some interesting comments on the 'vast LEFT wing conspiracy.'

Pamela Geller reports that the brownshirts at Temple University tried to shut down free speech. Oh, come on. Really? A university in America? No! As I said, this stuff is going to lead to war.

Days of our Trailers gives us another example of the assault on freedom--TSA is going to start riding buses.

Mike McCarville has the scoop on a plan in NYC to identify and keep tabs on all apartment buildings in the city where smoking is allowed by residents. I knew this was coming. The next step? Smoking bans IN YOUR OWN HOME!

Are House Republicans helping Senate Democrats ditch privacy rights?

A bill that has already passed the U.S. Senate and its now making its way to the House, where it is expected to be approved with little opposition, is raising the alarm among citizen rights groups. The legislation would require that all new cars sold in 2015 and beyond be equipped with a so-called black box--a data recorder that would collect all information on the driver's habits.
While the information would remain in the possession of each driver, the bill gives the federal government the right to access the contents of the box whenever it deems it necessary, when it can prove an overriding need to do so. The courts can order confiscation of the contents of the box. And in the event the Secretary of Transportation deems it necessary in an investigation, citizens would be forced to turn over the box to the federal government.
The black box is similar to the flight data recorders that are fitted on aircraft.

Issa says he is moving forward with contempt charges against Holder

In response to numerous critics who have claimed that Congressman Darrell Issa and the Republican leadership in the House have dragged their feet in holding accountable those who have lied to and stonewalled Congress in the Fast and Furious scandal, Rep. Issa told the Washington Times today that he is moving forward with contempt charges against Attorney General Eric Holder.
Issa had threatened Holder with a contempt of Congress citation unless he turned over to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform thousands of documents Holder has withheld that have been subpoenaed by Issa in his investigation into the scandal.
Several deadlines passed without any action on the part of Issa. And there were reports that House Speaker John Boenher had interfered in the Issa investigation, telling the Congressman to back off of the Administration in the matter.

The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Tuesday, April 17, 2012

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

David Codrea reports news about a gun incident involving Pippa Middleton, the pretty sister of Britain's new play pretty, Kate Middleton, the future queen of England.

Stand Up America provides vital information on the implications of a failed monetary system, which is where we are headed in short order.

Patriots Duty has a must-read entitled, "I am Woman, My Life is My Choice."

Kurt Hofmann wants to know why Missouri demands that its citizens become defenseless in order to use public transit...

The New York Liberty Report shows us yet another example of how the Obamanoids operate. Governor Cuomo of New York has assembled a 35-page dossier on a news reporter simply because he feels she is 'hostile' to his administration. This comes straight out of the playbook of the Chicago political mob, run by the likes of Godfather Rahm "Dead Fish" Emanuel and Barack Obama.

WRSA points to a worth while read showing why we are all George Zimmerman now.

Brigid was asked to do a guest post on another blog, which explains how to get started in firearms self defense. This is excellent and worth sending to novices.

Way Up North provides a report on a recent trip to the firing range with his oldest daughter.

Tam informs us about a freakin' mindless CNN numbskull who wants us all to know that the Trayvon Martin case is 'about guns.' Oh really, now. Idiot.

Truth About Guns has an enraging piece about the NRA and its attempt to take credit for the Fast and Furious story. Even Mittens, Mitt the RomneyCare RINO, gave credit to the NRA in his speech for bringing the scandal to our attention. Gee, I guess David Codrea and Mike Vanderboegh were just working for the NRA when they broke the story in December of 2010. I swear, sometimes the NRA is nothing but a bunch of sons of bitches.

ATF showdown in Anchorage

According to a report by a trusted source in Anchorage, Alaska, a top aide to U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski has met with ATF officials in her office concerning the agency's request that gun stores in the region turn over their 'Bound Book' containing the names, addresses, background checks, and purchases of customers who bought firearms and ammo at the stores.
Senator Murkowski's office was contacted directly and confirmed that the meeting took place yesterday.

Musings After Midnight--The Buckley Factor and It's Long Lasting Impact

Here we are again, my friends, for another late-night/early morning gathering which I have dubbed "Musings After Midnight," or if you prefer, my indulgence in navel gazing on sleepless nights, pretending that somebody out there may be actually interested in the vanity of an aging middle aged man who is quickly nearing his senior years.

If you find something in these observations of mine that are helpful or comforting, or even if you feel validated by my occasional rants, then congratulations. You can count yourself among the enlightened ones who are of a like mind.

If, on the other hand, you are repulsed by my informed opinions and well-crafted and defended views, then go away. There is a reason you feel repulsed, and for me to tell you why would only insult you.

You wouldn't understand it anyway.

Now, my dear reader, that is, for those of you who are still here, I intend to do some educating tonight, not because I think you are ignorant but because you may not be privy to some of the information I am about to tell you.

But you will have to indulge some personal history. I will try to make it interesting.

My interest in politics has been lifelong, beginning as a very young child in the late 50s and early 60s. My family has always had a keen interest in the subject, though we were of limited means in the south. But my grandparents and parents were hard working, honest, and interested in being good citizens. To them that meant holding down a steady job, saving your money, voting, and taking a personal interest in what was happening in the country politically.

Talk around our table was often centered on politics, and this was true not only in my own home but that of my grandparents, on both sides of the family, all of whom I remember very well.

To a person, every single member of my family was a Democrat, with the exception of one--my father. My Dad had come of age, entering adulthood, during the early years of the Eisenhower Administration. I remember my Dad saying on more than one occasion that Ike had convinced him that Republicans were better than Democrats, that the years Ike was in office were the smoothest 8 years he ever remembers for the country.

Everyone else in the family could never quite break away from the strong southern tradition of supporting Democrats. Most could remember how Republicans in Congress treated the south in the years after the Civil War, or if they did not remember they had always heard the numerous stories of the cruelty of the carpetbaggers, the scalawags, and the revenuers.

But they were conservatives. Some of them supported FDR's programs because the south was hit hard by the Depression, and they believed at the time that poor people needed the help the government afforded them during such a dire crisis. This did not mean, however, that they supported such measures once the crisis passed.

My maternal grandfather, for example, was often heard to say during the 1960s when LBJ was implementing his 'Great Society' that he thought the President was going way too far and that the government was actually rewarding non-action and non-work. He said that the difference between that and the Great Depression was that during the 1930s people had been raised with a strong work ethic and did not want something for nothing. By the 1960s, he said, things had changed dramatically, and thus, he opposed Johnson and the Democrats, although he remained a registered member of the Democratic Party.

Interestingly enough, my grandfather as an old man told me that in 1980 he voted for Reagan and that is was the first time he had ever voted for a Republican in his entire life.

Of course, I was pleased.

"Why did you do it?" I asked. He replied, "Well, it wasn't because I changed. It was because Democrats changed. They became something I did not recognize. Reagan was able to speak to me in a way that made perfect sense, so I voted for him."

Thus, my grandfather was among the very first group of a vast army that became known as "Reagan Democrats." These Democrats were staunch conservatives who felt betrayed by their party. And they left the party in droves in order to vote for Reagan.

Back to the early 60s.

The lively political discussions that took place in my family spilled over to the neighbors. A man who lived beside my grandparents was a dear fellow who was very good to this young boy, but he was a hard-nosed, dyed in the wool liberal Democrat who loved to argue. It was there, sitting on his porch while he smoked cigars and chewed tobacco that I honed my skills in the realm of the political debate.

We would debate every single day.

I would do research at night with the encyclopedias that my parents had bought me in order to arm myself with facts and proof that what liberals were doing to the country was detrimental and what conservatives wanted to do was constructive.

This exercise came in very handy during the Johnson-Goldwater race in 1964. He was a strong supporter of Lyndon Baines Johnson, whom I was convinced was nothing more than a vile charlatan, a base character with a penchant for the uncouth and the unethical, and who would sell the country down the road to socialism if it helped him advance his selfish political goals.

I supported Goldwater with a passion.

It was then that I was introduced to Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley. Reagan gave a televised speech in support of Goldwater. I was deeply impressed. Buckley had been one of the few conservatives of national stature who defended Goldwater with an eloquence that was rare in America, even during that period in our history.

In less than 10 years I would find myself working in Buckley's organization he started for college students called "Young Americans for Freedom." And within one year after joining we were working toward the election of Ronald Wilson Reagan as President of the United States.

Reagan was the great communicator who could take the conservative message and make it simple for the average person. He could speak with a pathos that pulled on the heart strings of the common man, and lead him gently to see that the conservative vision for America was the one that most closely followed the vision of the Founders, and the one that would save America from the coming destruction.

And I loved him for that.

But it was Buckley who laid down the intellectual foundation of the conservative movement. And at the time, during the early 70s, that is exactly what I needed. He appealed to my intellect and articulated a principled program for America based on limited and smaller government, lower taxes, greater individual freedom, and a recognition that the Judeo-Christian worldview was the one that drove the Founders to discover the timeless truths they expressed in our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Buckley believed that if conservatism had a chance of making a comeback after it had been nearly annihilated by the Progressive Movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and by the New Deal of FDR and the Great Society of LBJ, it had to have its roots in the college campuses where the nation's youth would be exposed to its powerful concepts.

This was the primary goal of Young Americans for Freedom--to take the conservative message to campuses where students would form local chapters, hold forums, seminars, debates, and where students would be encouraged to challenge the Leftwing indoctrination that was rampant in academic circles. We did all of this work where we were, in the colleges where we were students, behind the scenes and with little publicity.

Buckley had personally encountered the indoctrination of the academy as a student at Yale in the early 1950s. His experience with Leftwing professors and university administrators led to a major best seller he wrote entitled, God and Man at Yale. Buckley was appalled that a university that was founded primarily as an institution that would train minsters for the Christian ministry was now openly attacking the very Christianity that gave it its birth.

In time, Young Americans for Freedom would become the vehicle by which Buckley would seek to correct the excesses of academia by introducing an alternative point of view, a counter-balance to the ultra liberal propaganda being promulgated routinely in the lecture halls of nearly every university and college in America.

We, as members, were given tools by which to effectively challenge liberal myths that were presented as facts in the classroom. We wrote letters to the school newspapers. We even wrote letters to the editor in local town and city newspapers.

We held issues forums, staged public debates, and even gave speeches and lectures anywhere we were invited.

And then there were those rare treats where we were afforded the opportunity to watch the master rhetorician work his magic in person. Buckley loved to come south to participate in student sponsored debates on college campuses. And he never failed to deliver, invariably making minced meat of his liberal opponents who had agreed to be part of the panel.

And watching Buckley at work on his weekly PBS television series, Firing Line, was a must. Firing Line at the time was the longest running TV series of any kind.

Buckley, the man, was a charming individual who could make and maintain friendships with people of all persuasions, even those with whom he disagreed vociferously. And he had their respect for the most part. They respected his intellect even if they could not agree with his views.

During the 70s and part of the 80s a frequent guest on the Buckley program was Fred Friendly, former CBS exec who along with Edward R. Murrow produced the very first news documentaries that were shown on television during the medium's infancy. Friendly and Murrow had helped to destroy Joe McCarthy's political career over the Senator's charges that there were numerous members of the Communist Party in the U.S. government, in the Hollywood film industry, and in the arts and the press, such as authors, journalists, playwrights, etc.

Buckley had been a McCarthy supporter.

Some of more interesting and invigorating episodes of Firing Line featured debates between Friendly and former McCarthy attorney Roy Cohn.

Cohn, unfortunately, died of AIDS before it was discovered through the release of previously classified, top secret documents by the Soviet Union when the communist regime disintegrated that most of the individuals McCarthy had accused of being part of the Communist-Soviet plot to destroy the United States were, in fact, working with the old Communist KGB to advance the Marxist agenda, including supporting the Soviet Union against their own country during the Cold War.

M. Stanton Evans, an associate of Buckley's who had been a long time respected journalist, documented each of McCarthy's claims in a monumental work he released several years ago entitled, Blacklisted by History--the Untold Story of Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Evans provided full documentation from Soviet records and from documents released by the U.S. Government in the 1990s that totally vindicated McCarthy.

It is also most unfortunate that Fred Friendly died before seeing the documents. It is always most sweet to see a vicious liberal proved 100% wrong.

The foundation that Buckley laid on college campuses during the 1970s was one of the main factors that led to the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. The Republican establishment was dead set against him. Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney, Republicans in the House and Senate, were near unanimous in their opposition to Reagan, claiming that he was an "extremist outside the mainstream who was unelectable."

But Buckley was convinced that Reagan represented conservatism's greatest hope of winning the White House and assuming the reigns of government in a major way for the first time since the 1920s. And he made sure that we who served as the foot soldiers in Young Americans for Freedom would get on board with that goal as well.

We came close in 1976. Reagan nearly unseated a sitting President in an attempt to wrest the Republican nomination from Gerald Ford, who had ascended to the Presidency upon Richard Nixon's resignation. But Ford squeaked by and won--barely. Although Reagan graciously agreed to give a brief speech in support of Ford at the GOP convention, Ford could not muster enough support in the electorate to beat Jimmy Carter in the general election.

All of us knew the moment Ford eeked out a win against Reagan for the nomination that we were in deep trouble. His pardon of Nixon was highly unpopular. And though he was viewed as a nice and decent fellow, he was widely perceived as a lightweight, a 'pragmatist' who lacked any solid ideological convictions and principles.

Reagan was the one with the fire in the belly.

So, we set our sights on making sure that in four years Reagan would not be denied his chance.

Thus, by the time the 1980 election cycle rolled around, we had helped form and put into place a strong organization in all 50 states, and the conservative students in Buckley's Young Americans for Freedom were a big part of that organization. We had laid the foundation through our local activism. We had prepared the ground for the end game.

And, as Buckley later stated when asked how he would characterize the historic Reagan revolution of the 1980s, "We won."

Reagan beat President Carter in an embarrassing landslide in 1980. Four years later he beat Walter Mondale in an even bigger landslide. He inherited an annual inflation rate of 13%--staggering by today's standards, and lowered it to a manageable level. He inherited interest rates of 18 to 24%, and lowered them to 10-12%, and later to 8%. That sounds very high according to today's standards, but at the time such rates were considered low when compared to what they had been under Carter.

And of course, Reagan's policies made it impossible for the Communist Soviet Union to survive financially. His buildup of America's defenses, including its nuclear arsenal, bankrupted the Soviet Union when they attempted to keep up. Those internal stresses led to the break up of the Soviet block by the time Reagan left office in 1988.

But he was opposed every step of the way in attempting to destroy what he called, 'the evil empire.' Democrats fought him tooth and nail. Even the Republican establishment opposed him.

A little known fact about Reagan's famous speech at the Berlin Wall in 1987, where he called on Russian Prime Minister Gorbachev to "tear down this wall," was the behind the scenes controversy about Reagan's planned remarks. Reagan himself had insisted that the phrase be included in the speech, and he had written it into the text himself. This was Reagan's own line, not a speech writer's.

But Colin Powell objected. The State Department objected. The Defense Department objected. The RINOS of the establishment, such as Powell, did not want to 'rock the boat.'

The appeasers thought they had won when Reagan at first reluctantly deleted the comment out of the speech. But on the way to the Wall, while still in the limo, Reagan took out his small index cards on which he wrote all of his speeches, and added the phrase back in without informing anyone he had done so.

Thus, when Reagan reached that dramatic climax of the speech where he demanded that the Soviet President tear down the wall that had prevented those seeking freedom from leaving their Communist slave masters, everyone was taken off guard, including speech writers, Powell, and everyone else in the  Administration.

But it would be the one line from that speech that would be viewed as one of the most powerful and courageous statements an American President had ever made in the face of a foreign enemy. And it is the reason that the speech is remembered to this very day as one of the greatest Presidential speeches in history.

"We won," declared Buckley. You bet your sweet liberty we won. And the significance of the Reagan years cannot be overstated. It was the watershed moment when America, at least for eight years, stopped its death march into Marxism at home and weakness and appeasement abroad.

Did we get all we wanted? No. Both Buckley and Reagan would agree. All of us said so. But we got at least 70% of what we wanted, which was a vast improvement over the ZERO we had gotten for at least two decades prior to the Reagan years.

Did we make some mistakes? Of course we did. Hind sight is 20/20, and human beings are flawed. ALL human beings. We did not push hard enough for some things when we had the chance. Other things were put on the back burner, things that were very important but which at the time seemed to be issues that were of secondary importance to some other things we wanted to do.

If we had it to do over again there is no way in hell we would support the Brady Campaign bill of 1986, which in essence was a gun control measure. But Brady was a powerful force at the time in the aftermath of the attempt on Reagan's life early in his presidency. I have no way of knowing for sure what was going through Reagan's mind when he decided to sign the bill. But I do know he got some very bad advice during his second term from some people I never trusted, James Baker and Donald Regan being two of them. I also know that Nancy had a near pathological obsession with "protecting Ronny's legacy." She did not want him remembered as an extremist conservative. So, she pushed him to make concessions in the name of 'world peace.' She also wanted him to sign the Brady bill.

As a side note about Baker, while the adviser served Reagan fairly well during his first term, it is to be remembered that Baker was forced to contend with two other advisers who were equally as powerful during Reagan's first term--Ed Meese and Michael Deaver.  Meese was the conservative true believer of the group. Deaver was the protective shield who was so committed to Reagan personally that he would defend him against all attacks regardless. Baker was the moderate pragmatist. He was often outnumbered. But during Reagan's second term, Meese and Deaver departed, leaving Reagan with Baker and Don Regan. This was a colossal mistake. Neither man served the Reagan agenda well and in fact did all they could to undercut Reagan's brand of conservatism. I have never had any use for either one of them whatsoever. That goes double for Colin Powell.

The other biggie that we would have done differently was the so-called "war on drugs." This, too, was a Nancy Reagan baby that she nurtured by pushing the "Just Say No" campaign. The tax money that has been spent fighting that 'war' has been a waste ever since Nixon first declared such a war in the late 60s and early 70s. The nation has not even made a dent in the illegal drug use of citizens in spite of all we have done in terms of funding, interdiction, etc.

Nobody has any easy answers to the problem, but we HAVE learned that criminalizing drug users is an exercise in futility, not to mention that it takes up valuable prison space that could otherwise be used for violent criminals.

The fact is we are losing the war on drugs, and we have been losing it ever since it was first implemented. This is not to say something should not be done to help those caught in the addictions cycle, but what we have been doing has not worked and can be considered with all certainty to be a failure.

But, it is my firm conviction that in spite of the few major mistakes we made, the vast majority of what we did during the 1980s was a glowing success. And those successes far outweigh the failures.

Thus, when we look back at recent history and note the demise of Communism all around the world, we can thank Buckley and Reagan. When we consider how close we came to economic annihilation during the Carter years of the 1970s, we can thank Buckley and Reagan for pulling us back from the edge of the precipice. When we consider that during the early 80s the largest single tax cut in U.S. history was implemented, we can thank Buckley and Reagan. And when we consider that during the 80s businesses could breath easier due to massive rollbacks in rules and regulations that strangled their ability to make a profit, we can thank Buckley and Reagan.

And if, somewhere along the way in the 1980s you found yourself becoming proud to be an American again, proud to wave the flag, and proud of what this nation stands for in freedom and prosperity, after having suffered the long dark night of the 60s and 70s when radicals told us we were evil, when college professors told us that capitalists are oppressors who need to be ridiculed, marginalized, and even killed (according to Obama crony Bill Ayers), when we were told we need to be ashamed of our fighting men and women who served their country in Viet Nam, and when America was viewed on the world stage as a weak caricature of its former grandeur as a world power, you can thank Buckley and Reagan for making sure America was back strong and powerful again, worthy of our admiration and devotion.

Personally, I am proud that I was able to be a small part of the revolution that sought to restore the nation to its constitutional roots of maximum individual freedom and the role model of liberty and the responsible use of power for a world caught in a web of darkness.

I pray that another group of leaders in the mold of Reagan, Buckley, and Goldwater will emerge for our country in an hour such as this. I fear that unless this occurs, and soon, we will never get another chance to save this constitutional republic that is based on the premise of individual liberty.

Farmers are the latest target of Obama appointees

When the Obama appointed czars took office shortly after the inauguration in January of 2009, government watchdogs noted that the Administration appeared to be waging a war on the key pillars of this constitutional republic, including but not limited to freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
The statements and actions of various Obama czars and appointees such as Cass Sunstein, Van Jones, Mark Lloyd, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, and others were well documented.
Since that time the Administration seemingly has embarked on a war against other important aspects of American society, such as freedom of religion. The dire need for the country to develop its own energy sources apart from foreign oil has been greatly hampered by rules and regulations imposed by a radicalized EPA. And the basic human right of the individual to decide for himself or herself whether or not to make a purchase has been directly attacked by the Obama mandate that all Americans buy health insurance whether they want it or not.

Digging deeper into the 2012 vote count controversy

The news story being circulated around the alternative media concerning the Spanish company SCYTL and its contracts with 900 U.S. voter jurisdictions is a complicated one. And it is one that has tended to lend itself to broad generalizations and, in some cases, misinformation.
Digging deeper into the vote count controversy should help separate fact from fiction.
First, it is important to consider what has been discovered to be either fiction or at the very least unconfirmed speculation. Rumors, innuendo, and opinions that cannot be verified by the paper trail cannot be considered fact, although there may be some kernel of truth within them.
