Human Liberty Thrown Under the Bus

I hate to break it to you, but your friends, family, and co-workers who may be Socialist in their thinking are more than willing to sacrifice all of your rights--that's right, throw ALL of your liberties under the bus--in order to achieve their goals.

This is Communism-Socialism's dirty little secret.

And this is my topic of discussion today at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

In order to get 'government mandated healthcare for all' and government-controlled endeavor previously handled by the private sector, they are more than willing to take your guns, free speech, and everything else.

I encourage you to click on the link above and read. And pass it along. Thanks!

Vanderboegh: What He Learned from the 20th Century

The following is an excerpt from Mike Vanderboegh's 'What I Have Learned from the 20th Century,' dated 1999. Riveting. Absolutely riveting:

LESSON NO. 1: If a bureaucrat, or a soldier sent by a bureaucrat, comes to knock down your door and take you someplace you do not want to go because of who you are or what you think -- kill him. If you can, kill the politician who sent him. You will likely die anyway, and you will be saving someone else the same fate. For it is a universal truth that the intended victims always far outnumber the tyrant's executioners. Any nation which practices this lesson will quickly run out of executioners and tyrants, or they will run out of it.

LESSON NO. 2: If a bureaucrat, or a soldier sent by a bureaucrat, comes to knock down your door and confiscate your firearms -- kill him. The disarmament of law-abiding citizens is the required precursor to genocide.

LESSON NO. 3: If a bureaucrat tells you that he must know if you have a firearm so he can put your name on a list for the common good, or wants to issue you an identity card so that you be more easily identified -- tell him to go to hell. Registration of people and firearms is the required precursor to the tyranny which permits genocide. Bureaucrats cannot send soldiers to doors that are not on their list.

These are words to the wise. So read, ponder, meditate, and then act. Be prepared!

Commie America: Flip the Bird, Go to Jail!

Can you believe this? A Portsmouth man was actually charged with a felony for flipping the bird!

You read that right. He flipped someone the bird and was charged with a felony for it. Apparently this is the new Commie America where freedom of expression is a no-no unless somebody in 'authority' approves of it.

A Richards Avenue resident is being held on cash bail for a felony charge alleging he displayed his middle finger to someone who had a protection order against him.

Carlos Enriquez, 42, of 177 Richards Ave., is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on a felony charge of violating a protective order and a class A misdemeanor count of stalking. Both charges allege that on Jan. 24 Enriquez held up his middle finger to the victim while both were dining separately at the Friendly Toast, at 121 Congress St.

True, the man had a restraining order against him, but good grief! This is certainly over the top in anyone's estimation.

'2009: The Year to Defend Free Speech'

All over the world at this hour free speech is being attacked as perhaps never before in the history of modern civilization. Liberal politicians and extremist Muslims have forged an alliance of sorts that views speaking one's mind on matters such as religion and politics a dangerous endeavor that should be forbidden.

Several high profile cases provide the perfect examples.

Last year National Review columnist Mark Steyn was placed on trial in a human rights tribunal in Canada for merely suggesting that the Muslim attack on European culture is dangerous.

In the Netherlands, freedom-fighter Geert Wilders is presently under indictment for 'speaking against Islam.'

During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Barack Obama blacklisted and punished radio and television stations that ran ads by the McCain campaign that were critical of Obama's ideas.

This, along with the Democrats' intention to squelch conservative speech on the airwaves using a variety of means, including but not limited to 'the (UN)Fairness Doctrine, bodes an ill omen for freedom of speech.

We are even hearing rumblings among the Left that any conservative who vehemently opposes and/or speaks out against the Obama vision for socialism in this country is to be considered 'a traitor.'

The following article at National Review, written by two courageous patriots, Geert Wilders and Robert Spencer, lays out in stark detail the world-wide attack on free speech and what we can do about it.

2009 will be a watershed year for human liberty.

Martin Luther King Day and Guns

This is the first piece I have ever written on Martin Luther King Day, but I am convinced that this year more than ever a clear, concise statement is needed about its significance, within the context of gun rights.

The very first gun control enacted in this country was initiated by the Ku Klux Klan in order to keep firearms out of the hands of blacks.

Even today, the race-baiters, whether they be white, black, yellow, red, or whatever, continue their quest to disarm groups of people for the purpose of keeping them subservient in one form or another.

Thus, when Barack Obama and Jessie Jackson demand gun control, it is for oppressive purposes. When Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Joe Biden, and others of their ilk demand gun control, once again it is for oppressive purposes.

Honorable citizens have NO criminal intent in their desire to purchase, keep, and bear firearms.

Criminals get guns illegally. And that is where the emphasis should lie, and not upon the average citizens.

Martin Luther King, Jr. understood these things.

Sure, his marches were peaceful, non-violent. But talk to thousands of blacks in the South who joined him, and you will find scores who found a way to keep firearms in order to provide themselves with protection against oppressive whites who worked for government.

Condi Rice tells many a fascinating story about her father in Birmingham, Alabama, and his conviction that Bull Connor, the man who ran the city police department and did the bidding of the Klan, was such a danger that her father needed to keep weapons in their home.

The throngs of the oppressed who either joined King's marches or supported them silently understood all too well the dangers of oppressive government. They had lived under it. And they knew the lengths to which evil men drunk with power would go to deprive the powerless of any and all means to gain security for their persons, their families, and their property.

Those who would seek to deprive any citizen of the means of self-defense are just as culpable as 'the white sheets with hoods' that sought to do so in the pre-Civil Rights South.

Dr. King knew a thing or two about human liberty that our incoming President-select doesn't know. King understood because he had lived without it. And that is the difference--the defining difference between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Barack Obama.

Martin Luther King Day is actually a day I can celebrate. Tomorrow's inauguration of a human liberty charlatan is no celebratory matter.

Jack Booted Thugs

Apparently it is now part of the politically correct mindset to view terms such as 'jack booted thugs' as part of an anti-law enforcement mentality.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Growing up in a small southern town as I did, I was around fire, police, and sheriff's officials during the entirety of my upbringing. I happen to know that many if not most of these persons are the salt of the earth. They are good men and women doing the best job they can.

Yet I am one of the first to use the term 'jack booted thug' when I see law enforcement run amok, such as the Bill Clinton-Janet Reno murderous raid on the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas, and the senseless, spineless, and despicable murder of the Weavers at Ruby Ridge--all compliments of federal law enforcement agents.

And of course, the ATF is the penultimate example of jack booted thuggery with the manner in which they treat firearms dealers and gun owners in general.

Anyone who truly understands the vocabulary of those of us who love and cherish liberty knows that 'jack booted thug' is never used in an attempt to paint a broad brush stroke of all law enforcement personnel.

It takes a special kind of law enforcement person or persons to qualify for the term. That kind of person is usually oblivious to the rights of citizens and drunk with their own power. You know the kind.

And, as long as there are those out there who continue to use their 'authority' to trample on human liberty, squelch the right of the people to self-defense including the use of guns, and generally look askance at anyone who questions big government, then I will continue to use the term 'jack booted thugs' to describe them.

Believe me, there are going to be lots and lots more of these types around after January 20.

'The Unwritten Constitution'

Certain unwritten but commonly accepted truths undergird the U.S. Constitution. These concepts are known as 'the unwritten Constitution,' and are often cited in the writings of the Founding Fathers.

Constitutional truth is in no way as complicated a matter as the legal profession would have us believe.

The Founding Fathers did us all a great favor by leaving behind their written works for us to see. And within those documents we find the commonly accepted truths that led them to frame the Constitution in the manner in which they did.

For example, the First Amendment provision of freedom of religion was never meant to keep religion out of the public marketplace of ideas but to prevent government from establishing an official church of the United States, supported with our tax dollars such as we find in Great Britain and dozens of other countries.

In like manner, we know that the Second Amendment provision of the freedom to keep and bear arms is an individual right and not a collective one.

The Framers made both of these things clear in their many writings.

Mike Vanderboegh has written a most interesting piece on the topic of 'the unwritten Constitution' that begs for these issues to be discussed and considered by all of those who are serious students of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I strongly urge each of you to carefully read it and contemplate the obvious issues that arise from it.

Christmas Eve, 2008

Christmas Eve, 2008. It would seem that on every front the issues that face us as Americans today are insurmountable. The nation is reeling from an economic crisis that is getting deeper and that has gripped most of the world. Americans seem to have lost their collective will and resolve in a fight that may well determine our very survival. Socialists who are intent on revisionism when it comes to our Constitutional rights have assumed control of the Congress and the Presidency.

It would seem there is not much to celebrate this Christmas.

Yet my mind turns to signs of hope. On the eve of the designated day on which Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, I am reminded anew of the eternal hope that springs from the One who placed the desire and the fight for liberty in the souls of human beings.

Jesus said, 'If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed!'

The birth of that Baby in the manger so long ago represented all the hopes and aspirations of generations of persons. Even today, those who claim His name are reminded incessantly that hope does, indeed, spring eternal. As the Star of Bethlehem guided the Magi to the place where lay the Prince of Peace, so today we are reminded that among the ashes of failure, strife, violence, and despots, there is the hope of freedom.

Liberty begins in the human heart through faith. From there the desire for liberty spreads to every aspect of life.

The men who penned the Declaration of Independence, devised the Constitution, and ratified 10 initial amendments that guaranteed certain individual, unalienable rights, believed that liberty as a concept was infused into the human psyche by the Creator. Such a notion has radical, broad-sweeping ramifications. No government, no tyrant, no despot, no group of persons who have set themselves up as the rulers over humanity, have any inherent right to squelch liberty. As soon as they do so, they go against the very nature of what it means to be human, and their actions are immediately illegitimate.

This was Thomas Jefferson's stunning philosophy.

Any government that attempts to remove the inherent liberties endowed to us by the Creator is to be viewed as illegitimate, tyrannical, and possessing of no authority. The very act of stripping citizens of their rights automatically negates the viability and legitimacy of that government.

And that goes for governments that are elected by the people.

Jefferson referred to tyrants who are voted into office by the people as 'elective despotism.' His view of the sweep of history was that the tendency is for government to increase power and gradually remove the rights of the people. This, according to Jefferson, would lead to war, and rightfully so. As Jefferson states, 'Liberty must occasionally be salvaged by the blood of tyrants and patriots.'

The desire to be free is an overwhelming human drive. The students in Tienanmen Square in Red China are a perfect case in point. Defying an overwhelmingly powerful Red Army, these courageous young men and woman stood in front of tanks and artillery, placing their lives in mortal danger for facing down a tyrannical government.

Freedom fighters all over the world have done the same thing.

Thus, on this Christmas Eve, my friends, I am far from despair. I am filled with hope. As the Son has made us free, so we push for, work for, long for, fight for, liberty, not only for us but for the entire world.

ChiComs Devise Plan to Combat Internet News

The Communist government of China has devised a plan to combat Internet news.

Government propaganda officials of the Politburo have been thwarted from controlling news in recent years due to the exploding popularity of independent Internet news sources.

But as the Times Online reports, the ChiComs plan to combat the free flow of uncontrolled news by using the Internet itself.

According to Communist Party officials, by being the first to post on the Internet sensitive news that may be reported independently in a manner that is embarrassing to the government, the ChiComs can get ahead of the pack and be the first to report sensitive news and thus set the content, slant and tone of such news.

I have an even better idea for the ChiComs. Just hire MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Newsweek, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and their co-conspirators in the mainstream media, turn them loose with no controls whatsoever, and they will do a better PR job for the Politburo than any controlled news that comes out of the Chinese government.

I would even be willing to wager that Couric, Matthews, Olbermann, Williams, and Gibson would gladly stand in line for such an opportunity to be the cheerleaders for the ChiComs. Matthews would probably even get another 'strange sensation running up his leg.'

Oleg Volk: 'Individual Freedom--What a Quaint Notion'

Photographer and gun rights activist Oleg Volk nails it with this photo and graphic. Take a look:

Mark Steyn: 'Death of the American Idea'

Having come close to being thrown into prison in Canada for merely speaking his mind about the dangers of militant Islam in Europe, Mark Steyn knows a thing or two about human liberty and just how fragile that liberty can be, even in Western democratic societies.

While a so-called 'Human Rights Tribunal' in British Columbia narrowly exonerated Steyn for exercising free speech, the question is why should this trial have taken place in a supposed 'free' society to begin with? And, how much longer will it be before America falls prey to the very same mindset?

According to Steyn, it won't be that long.

America, he says, took a turn toward the Left in this election. And, regardless of how we may try to rationalize it all away by our explanations of what went wrong, somehow we allow government to gain more control over our lives, little by little, year by year.

Can you imagine, asks Steyn, President William McKinley in 1898 even conceiving of the possibility that one day in America one Presidential candidate would be proposing giving a tax rebate check to over 40 million Americans who pay no taxes, and the other Presidential candidate proposing a government bailout of individuals who fail to make their mortgage payments?

I can go even further. Can you imagine in the early 1900s Teddy Roosevelt conceiving of a day in America when a President-elect had at one time proposed a complete ban on all handguns in America?

Yet here we are. We should not even be having these discussions in America. But we have gradually given away our rights to be point to where the opponents of human liberty feel free to openly discuss infringing on the rights specifically named and protected in the Constitution.

Read Mark Steyn's 'Death of the American Idea' and seriously ponder over what, exactly, brought us to this point in America where so many of our fellow citizens believe it is incumbent upon them to place limitations on rights recognized and guaranteed by the Constitution.

Even in my lifetime, I remember a day in America when these issues were settled because we were free. There was no mention of ANY possibility of limitations or infringements on our God-given rights.

So, my friends, how did we get to this point? What plan of action, what tactical decisions were made that led to the present crisis of liberty?

I have my ideas, but many won't like them. Compromising with the individuals who are clearly anti-freedom did us no good whatsoever. In fact, the opposite took place. The compromises we thought would help us gain ground only served to strengthen the enemies of liberty and weaken the resolve of the electorate to fight them.

Important Mark Steyn Interview Today

In a blog interview featured in 'Girl on the Right,' a new addition to The Liberty Sphere's preferred links, Mark Steyn will talk about his personal nightmare in the Canadian free speech/free press case.

The interview can be found today on Brass Balls Radio, via Girl on the Right:
http://girlontheright.com/2008/06/06/following-on-in-our-all-mark-steyn-theme/

Girl on the Right provides a daily audio/video feed from Brass Balls Radio.

Mark Steyn, of course, is the National Review columnist/reporter whose article on radical Islam in Europe landed him in a British Columbian human rights tribunal. He is charged with 'Islamophobia' and attempting to incite Islamophobia.

Human rights observers say that the case is representative of Canada's descent into totalitarianism. The case is also a grim reminder that formerly free societies are succumbing to the hysteria of extremists who believe that pointing out the weaknesses and failures of Islam, for example, is apparently a hideous crime against humanity that must be harshly judged and punished.

Free societies, however, allow no such limits on human liberty.

Steyn's own words concerning his own personal ordeal at the hands of the Canadian government should be a stark wake-up call to all around the world who value human freedom.

On This Day...

Today we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country--the men and woman of the armed forces who died so that we could maintain liberty.

May we never allow political or social forces, or ideologies, to degrade, demean, or minimize the tremendous sacrifice of these brave men and women--and their families.

To cut and run before the job is done in any military endeavor is to render those sacrifices meaningless. If the country ceases to support the mission that sent these soldiers to their deaths, both in the past and at present, then they will have died in vain.

If the country embraces programs, concepts, or ideologies that limit human liberty, then these soldiers will have died in vain.

President George W. Bush has issued a proclamation calling for all American citizens to pause in a moment of silence at 3 PM today, in order to remember and give thanks for the sacrifices of our men and women of valor who have died in service to their country.

May their memory never fade from our minds, and may their mission to fight for, serve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States become the mission of us all.

Criticize China? Better Watch Your Back

It's a good thing CNN's Jack Cafferty isn't in China. In all likelihood he would be placed under arrest and hauled into prison for a lengthy sentence.

Cafferty's crime? He dared refer to the the Chinese government as 'goons' and 'thugs' in response to the regime's treatment of the people of Tibet.

The remarks were spoken from the safety of CNN's headquarters during the network's daily broadcast of 'The Situation Room. Cafferty quipped, 'I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years.'

This prompted the Chinese Foreign Ministry to summon CNN's Beijing bureau chief in order to demand an apology.

As usual, the regime's spin on the incident is that Cafferty was referring to 'the Chinese people as a whole' and not merely to the regime. According to the ruling Communist Party officials such words are tantamount to 'verbal terrorism' against the Chinese people and indicates an anti-Chinese bias at CNN.

Officials at CNN, however, refuse an apology. Cafferty himself stated that he was in no way referring to the Chinese people but only to the Chinese government, and that he apologized if anyone thought otherwise.

The entire display, however, is classic Chinese Communist reaction to criticism. Not only does the regime fail to recognize the value of free speech but it is particularly harsh toward speech, either written or spoken, that in any way portrays the government in a negative light.

In other words, if you dare criticize the government, it's off to jail with you.

Most of the Chinese people understand this, including Chinese-Americans. Some, however, view the American ideal of freedom of speech as a totally foreign concept that is to be devalued. It is extremely important for such person to understand that in this country freedom of speech was first envisioned to protect in particular any speech that is critical of government.

This is part of our understanding of basic, inherent human rights and liberties.

Thus, until the Chinese government understands that human liberty is the pinnacle of human progress, most of us in the States will always view the regime as 'the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the past 50 years.'

I will even go further than Mr. Cafferty. China's government is tyrannical. It suppresses the liberties of the Chinese people and holds them in the heavy grip of oppression.

Therefore, it is a rogue regime that is worthy of nothing but the free world's disdain and condemnation.

The Chinese Show Their True Colors

The world is truly fortunate that the Chinese are hosting the Olympics. Never since Tienanmen Square have the true colors of the Communist regime been on full display for all to see.

Despite all of the so-called 'progress' made in China with the introduction of capitalism into its system (albeit with clear anti-capitalistic restrictions on speech and other human rights), the nation is still held firmly in the grip of totalitarianism along with all of its concomitant suppression of human rights.

No greater example of this can be found than China's present treatment of Tibet, the Buddhist monks, and its reaction to the nations participating in the Olympics that protest the regime's oppressive actions.

The problem is that the West routinely capitulates to Chinese demands. Google and Microsoft betrayed their country when, on condition of doing business in China, they agreed to the regime's demands that freedom of expression be suppressed.

And the most that the West can seem to muster in response to China's barbaric treatment of Tibet is a verbal slap on the wrist.

As usual, this is not enough.

George the First set the tone for this travesty when he refused to react forcefully to the manner in which the Chinese regime reacted to the brave students who protested Communism in Tienanmen Square nearly 20 years ago.

Our non-action was wrong then, and it is wrong now.

China is still home to thousands if not millions of citizens, many of them the most intellectually astute in the country, who detest the regime and believe that democratic ideals and human liberty are the height of human progress.

We owe it to these stalwart souls to give a clear signal that we are on their side.

When the Lights Went Out...

So, did you turn off all your lights between the hours of 8 and 9 PM last evening for the sake of the environment?

I didn't.

In protest, I turned all of mine on.

I did this for two primary reasons. One, I am not one of the sheeple who do as I am told simply because Socialists, environmentalist snobs, or government elitists say so. I am an adult, thank-you, and I can make my own decisions based upon what I read and study. Two, instead of forcing people either by law or by shame and guilt to give up something, why not put all of our brain cells to work developing new and sustainable energy sources?

You see, I believe that intelligent people secure sensible solutions to problems based upon human ingenuity and creativity. Imbeciles believe that the only way to solve a problem is to limit human choice and freedom.

Thus, my lights stayed on and they will continue to stay on each year the Commie-sympathizers stage this imbecilic 'lights off' showcase.

Just So You Know Where We Stand

I rarely write about religious topics unless they have to do with politics and politicians, or terrorism, which is intrinsically intertwined with religious dogma of a sinister kind.

Yet from time to time writing about religious beliefs is unavoidable, particularly when it comes to understanding the founding of our Republic and the views of the persons who founded it.

True, not all of the Founders where Christian, but most were officially affiliated with a Christian congregation. And they wrote at length about their views, including references to Jesus Christ.

The authors of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were clearly convinced that human rights are not the invention of men and women, nor are these rights 'granted' by government.

Rather, they saw liberty as God-given. And all human beings are endowed with these liberties by their Creator, no matter what governments say. Governments may recognize and protect these God-given rights, or they may detest them and refuse to recognize them, much to the peril of the citizens.

Thus, the U.S. Government does not and cannot 'grant' the right to bear firearms, the right to speak freely without government restriction, and the like. These are pre-existing rights granted to human beings by God. The only thing the U.S. Government can do is recognize and protect these God-given rights, IF it chooses to do so.

The Founders believed that our form of government is unique in that it has chosen to recognize and protect these God-given rights.

But each succeeding generation is charged with the responsibility to make sure that the vision of the Founders is preserved and protected from tyrants and despots, wolves in sheep's clothing, who incessantly attempt to rob the citizens of these rights.

As a Christian, therefore, I believe that my rights are given by Christ Himself. As the Bible states, 'If the Son makes you free, you are free indeed.' And, I believe that it is incumbent upon me to fight to protect these rights from those within our own country who apparently have no more regard for the Constitution than they do for Hitler's Mein Kampf.

Further, I believe it is my responsibility as a Christian to fight for the rights of non-Christians every bit as fervently as I do for that of Christians. All of those who believe in human liberty that is unfettered and unrestricted by oppressive government has been enlightened to that truth whether they are Christian or not.

This means that Jews, Buddhists, moderate Muslims, and those with no religious beliefs are part of the same team if they believe that basic human rights are inherent and not 'created,' 'given,' or 'granted' by government. Rights stand totally apart from and outside government.

Thus, on this Easter Sunday, I can celebrate the fact that Christ lives and has made it possible for the entire human race to be truly free.

It is to that end that The Liberty Sphere is dedicated...just so you know where we stand.

Happy Easter!

Too Important To Pass Up

Every now and then an article or editorial comes our way that simply begs promotion. Such an editorial is found today at The War on Guns.

David Codrea presents a guest editorial by a writer who has a highly accurate assessment of the state of the citizenry in America today, entitled 'Tribe of the Timid.' If this editorial doesn't move you to action, then nothing will.

You may ask, 'But what can I do?'

First, you can forward that editorial to as many in your sphere of influence as possible. Second, you can become what I call a 'moonlight activist,' that is, in your free time do something concrete to help save your country, such as write letters to the editor, contact your representatives both at the state and federal level, and so forth.

And then, get involved if you are physically able to do so. Join a grassroots organization of like-minded persons who believe in the same ideals of liberty that you do.

Here is the link to the editorial:

Did You Notice in the Ratings of Candidates....

In The Liberty Sphere's final ratings of both Republican and Democratic candidates for President, did you notice that no Democrat rated above a 4 on the 1-10 scale?

And did you notice that no Republican rated below a 6 on that same scale?

This means, of course, that on the 8 key issues impacting human liberty, ANY of the Republicans are to be preferred over ANY of the Democrats.

And yes, my friends, this means that Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and even Mike Huckabee rate much higher on the issues impacting freedom than ANY of the Democratic candidates.

Rudy, Mitt, and Mike have their problems, no doubt--problems that cause us concern. But those difficulties pale in comparison to the baggage carried by the Hildabeast, Obama, Edwards, or any of the other Socialists seeking the Democratic nomination.

Not that I expect all of you to agree, but still, when you look at the basic facts and the record, any of the GOP candidates can be counted on to attempt to preserve human liberty while ALL of the Democrats promote issues that squelch that liberty.
