When the Lights Went Out...

So, did you turn off all your lights between the hours of 8 and 9 PM last evening for the sake of the environment?

I didn't.

In protest, I turned all of mine on.

I did this for two primary reasons. One, I am not one of the sheeple who do as I am told simply because Socialists, environmentalist snobs, or government elitists say so. I am an adult, thank-you, and I can make my own decisions based upon what I read and study. Two, instead of forcing people either by law or by shame and guilt to give up something, why not put all of our brain cells to work developing new and sustainable energy sources?

You see, I believe that intelligent people secure sensible solutions to problems based upon human ingenuity and creativity. Imbeciles believe that the only way to solve a problem is to limit human choice and freedom.

Thus, my lights stayed on and they will continue to stay on each year the Commie-sympathizers stage this imbecilic 'lights off' showcase.

Me too.

For the same reasons.

Well said.

Thank-you, Sir.

You know, come to think of it, this is how it's always been with liberals. They thrive off of mediocrity. To excell, find solutions, take the human race forward in creativity and ingenuity, are all foreign concepts to them.

Take the Cold War, for example. Liberals were content and fought for mediocrity--detente with the Soviet Union. They were content with simply living with the fact that either nation could destroy the other, and supposedly this would deter aggression.

Ronald Reagan came along and inspired the nation to WIN, and we did, bigtime.

There are many more examples of this, but I will stop there. Needless to say, when William F. Buckley first wrote in the 1950s that liberalism appeals to the absolute lowest common denominator in people rather than their highest aspirations, he not only was way ahead of his time but he was speaking prophetically in many ways.

The nation has been brought the brink of ruin by liberals because of this penchant for attacking or downplaying the ability of human beings to rise to higher and higher potentials in creativity and problem-solving.

Martyn, you'll be glad to know that I did not turn the lights out. Instead, I took a page out of Al Gore's play book; I went out and put on a rock & roll show. My only hope is that I raised awareness.
"They thrive off of mediocrity."
Get out of my head, man.
At the risk of looking self indulgent, I must quote my own lyric/rant.
"This was supposed to be the age of enlightenment, Instead, it's the age of the apathetic mind. A society that encourages and even celebrates mediocrity, now what is that? What the hell is that? Lift a glass to my incompetence? Let's have a toast to my bad judgment? Ain't nothing shakin' but the foundation. It's got to leave you scratching your head. It's got to leave you searchin'"

Hiya, Jack! Nice to see ya.

Those are some awesome lyrics there, man.

By the way, aren't you guys coming out with a new CD in the near future?

Hey Martyn-I've been keeping a low profile but, I take a trip through the roundup every day and, of course, I always check out your other insightful pieces as well.
New stuff? Yeah, I am reaching the point where I am going to prioritize that.
Funny thing about those "lyrics", that was an improvised spoken word section of a song called "Soul Searching". It wasn't meant to be political, more of a social or cultural commentary. I believe strongly in the idea of striving for quality. It's a principle that should have nothing to do with left-right; conservative-liberal, you know? We should strive for quality, that's all.
To my surprise, this song-this idea, has garnered a bit of flak from several left-leaning individuals.
By merely pointing out that we celebrate mediocrity and wanting better than that for our society-I have been pigeon holed. Go figure.

Jack,

Unfortunately you have encountered up close and personal the modus operandi of the Left.

Big government elitists must keep the masses dumb and dependent in order to maintain control. They maintain this control by providing the salvation, answers, and solutions to all that frightens the masses.

And yes, technically the strive for excellence and creativity should not be a political matter at all. Unfortunately, the Left believes these things are reserved for them only. The rest of us must be kept dumb and dependent.

And thus, they are the purveyors of mediocrity. I refuse to accept it, and I refuse to allow Liberals to convince individual that they cannot, that they are not capable, and that they need government to make it all right.

As for your new CD, hope you can get it together soon.

Sincerely,
Martyn
