Alright, folks, give me your forbearance while I gloat a bit.
My Alma mater, the University of South Carolina, defeated the number 4 ranked team in the nation--Old Miss--Thursday evening by a score of 16-10.
Congrats to the 'Old Ball Coach' Steve Spurrier and his new rising star quarterback Stephen Garcia for a great game.
South Carolina is now 2-1 on the season and is showing signs of becoming the type of ball team Spurrier is famous for developing. I hope so! We are long overdue in this graveyard of football coaches.

It's College Football Time!
College football gets into full swing today as most of the major teams in the country square off against their opponents.
I admit I never cared much for the NFL. I had much rather see a college or high school team get out there and fight it out.
Here in South Carolina, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks played their first game of the season Thursday night, defeating North Carolina State by a score of 7-3.
The Tigers of Clemson University will play their first game of the season today at 6 PM at Middle Tennessee.

CLEMSON BEATS VIRGINIA
This was a low-scoring game, but a win is a win. The Clemson Tigers have defeated Virginia by a score of 13-3, bringing the Tigers' record to 6-5 on the season.
Virginia had been considered the favorite in this matchup, but Clemson today proved that they could shut down a fairly good offense.
Clemson's final game of the season is next Saturday against cross-state rivals, the South Carolina Gamecocks. This game is extremely important for both teams.
A win for South Carolina will give them 8 victories on the season, which would be their best showing in several years. A win for Clemson will make them bowl-eligible.
The game will be played at Clemson, the time to be announced.

South Carolina Beats Arkansas, 34-21
Moving up to a record of 7-3 on the season, the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks by a score of 34-21.
Coach Steve Spurrier returned to his practice of using 2 quarterbacks as he continues to develop the talent of freshman Steven Garcia. Senior quarterback Chris Smelley served as starting quarterback for today's game.
Next Saturday the Gamecocks will face Spurrier's Alma mater and old stomping grounds as the nations' top coach, the Florida Gators. It was at Florida that Spurrier won the Heisman Trophy as a player. It was also at Florida that Spurrier dominated the SEC and college football as a whole during his record-setting years as the Gator coach.
Spurrier has struggled with the Gators since becoming South Carolina's head coach. This year's prospects are not good as the Gamecocks face a Gator team that has racked up terribly lopsided scores against many of their opponents.
Still, an upset is possible, and the Gamecocks hope that this is their year.

College Football Today--South Carolina, Clemson
With both teams fresh from a week off from play last Saturday, the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina and the Tigers of Clemson University are ready to resume play in 2 crucial conference games today.
Clemson will travel to Boston College for an ACC matchup that begins at 3:30 PM ET. With a faltering record of 3-4 on the season, Clemson desperately needs this win.
South Carolina will play host to Tennessee in a major SEC matchup that begins at 7 PM ET at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The Gamecocks have a chance to pick up their 6th win of the season as they face a struggling Vols team.

Univ. of South Carolina, Clemson Have Off Day
Both the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and the Clemson Tigers have the day off today as both teams prepare for what will be a crucial final stretch of the 2008 college football season.
Clemson's next game will be against Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts at 3:30 PM on Saturday, November 1.
Clemson desperately needs a win to help redeem its season that is teetering on the edge of disaster with a 3-4 record. If anyone can help pull them out it is the newly named Interim Head Coach Dabo Swinney with his infectious enthusiasm that has reignited the team and its fans.
As for the Gamecocks, Steve Spurrier and company will square off against Tennessee at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC next Saturday, November 1, at 7 PM.
With a record this season of 5-3, South Carolina is on the brink of either having a stellar season with at least 8 wins or else they are standing on the edge of a precipice getting ready to crash.

South Carolina Stings Kentucky, 24-17
Freshman quarterback Steven Garcia proved to be the winning move for Coach Steve Spurrier today as the South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, KT, by a score of 24-17.
Garcia replaced starting quarterback Chris Smelley, who struggled during the first half.
Smelley was clearly off his game today as he missed several golden opportunities to pass down-field to wide-open receivers.
The Gamecocks were energized by Garcia as the young quarterback exhibited the athleticism and passing precision that put South Carolina over the top.
'The Old Ball Coach' Steve Spurrier has never lost to Kentucky in his entire career as a head football coach. Today also marks Spurrier's 100th win in the Southeastern Conference out of 163 overall career wins, the 3rd highest in college football history.
South Carolina now moves to 5-2 on the season.

The Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina travel to Kentucky for a big SEC matchup today beginning at 12:30 PM ET.

South Carolina Pulls Upset Over Ole Miss

The final score was 31-24 as the Gamecocks move to 4-2 on the season.
South Carolina was finally able to get its defense together as quarterback Chris Smelley displayed his strongest showing so far this year.
The Gamecocks travel to Kentucky to face the Wildcats next Saturday in another major SEC game.

South Carolina Beats Wofford 23-13
South Carolina Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier talks to the media...The University of South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Wofford Terriers by a score of 23-13 in a game played at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The Gamecocks are now 2-2 on the season.

Final Scores for Clemson and South Carolina
The Clemson Tigers handily defeated the Wolfpack of North Carolina State by a score of 27-9 in Death Valley Saturday afternoon. Clemson is now 2-1 on the season.
South Carolina was defeated by the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia by a score of 14-7. The Gamecocks had several good chances score, but once again had problems with turnovers.
The Gamecocks have never won an SEC game that was televised by CBS. South Carolina now falls to 1-2 on the season.

South Carolina Loses, Clemson Wins Big
The South Carolina Gamecocks lost to Vanderbilt in its first SEC matchup for the season, after shutting out North Carolina State last week. The final score was 24-17.
Vanderbilt is now 2-0 on the season. The Gamecocks fall to 1-1.
The Carolina offense looked much better this week than during last week's game against N.C. State, but a 4th quarter rally by the Gamecocks failed to yield enough points for the win.
Carolina will play at home next Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Clemson Tigers of South Carolina came back to win big over in-state rivals The Citadel Saturday afternoon, after a heartbreaking loss last week to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The final score for today's game was 45-17.
This week had been a tough one for Clemson coach Tommy Bowden, especially after reports indicated he had called Alabama coach Nick Sabin for advice.
Sabin's advice must have paid off, for there was little to complain about with Clemson's very strong showing against The Citadel. In fact, Clemson dominated every aspect of the game against a team that has rarely mounted much of a contest in the long history of matchups between these two teams.

South Carolina, Clemson Football Underway
The college football season is now underway in South Carolina. The University South Carolina Gamecocks played their first game Thursday evening, and the Clemson Tigers debut tonight.
In a game that was broadcast nationally on ESPN, South Carolina opened their season with a rout over North Carolina State, 34-0.
Despite the overwhelming victory, 'the ole ball coach,' Steve Spurrier, was not entirely pleased with the Gamecocks' performance.
Spurrier stated that there are problems with the Gamecock offense. Quarterback Tommy Beecher fell victim to 4 interceptions. The defensive line, however, showed that they are among the strongest in the nation by overcoming the offensive gaps.
