Washington, DC (TLS). The still-unfolding news story of the terrorist plot in Great Britain involving car bombs has raised serious questions for both the U.K. and the U.S.
It is still unclear as to whether or not Great Britain clearly understands the nature of the threat and its germination right under its nose as the country has sought to accommodate Muslim immigrants over the last few years.
Anytime a nation allows a flood of immigrants from regions of the Middle East that are known for radical Islam, it is opening the door to dangers yet untold. Yet it is highly doubtful that most of England can see their own culpability.

Al Gore Takes a Beating from a Scientist
Washington, DC (TLS). Conventional wisdom has maintained that Hillary Clinton will be the nominee of the Democratic Party to run in the 2008 Presidential election. Conventional wisdom has also maintained that Al Gore's stranglehold on the environmental issue is fast and secure.
So who still believes in conventional wisdom, anyway?
Certainly the Clintons believe that the Democratic nomination is rightfully hers and that the 2008 Democratic convention is nothing more than a coronation. Party loyalists and the elite old guard also believe that she will be the nominee.
And I don't really doubt them that much. In fact, this is the most likely scenario.
Yet, her securing the nomination is not yet in the bag. Hillary faces some landmines that have surfaced at a very inopportune moment in her rise to fulfill a lifelong dream. First, her negatives are actually growing in the polls, not abating. She is not perceived positively by a majority of the electorate, and a new poll suggests that at least 50% of likely voters state that they will NOT vote for her.
Such bad news is sure to create some nervousness on the part of Party operatives. They may well turn to someone else if Hillary's negatives continue to dog her campaign.
Second, Hillary faces a potential bombshell of a scandal involving illegal activity on the part of both Clintons. The centerpiece of the scandal is a videotape that shows the Clintons committing felonies with regard to receiving illegal contributions and making underhanded deals.
If she is indicted and goes to trial, she can kiss her political aspirations good-bye.
Enter Al Gore.
Gore has been waiting in the wings for an opportunity to take center stage and supposedly recapture what he has always considered his since 2000--the Presidency.
Should Hillary falter, it is a near-certainty that the Democrats will NOT turn to Barack Obama, since his polls numbers have plummeted faster than the speed of sound. Edwards has fared even worse. And none of the other Democratic candidates appear to be catching on.
Thus, Al Gore would be the Party's tenured star waiting in the wings to save the day...except the problem is that Gore is facing his own set of problems.
By making global warming the centerpiece of his public discourse over the past few years, Gore has thrown himself lock, stock, and barrel into the 'environmentalist movement'--which is actually a political movement that uses environmental issues to push an ideological agenda.
Gore has bought the propaganda of the movement without question--that mankind is to blame for global warming and that the only way to 'fix' it is to enact sweeping policy changes in society that will reflect a collectivist rather than a free market set of values.
In short, personal freedom of choice will suffer. Free market capitalism will be smashed. The only way the planet can be saved from the exceedingly wicked human beings who have trashed it and caused it to warm up is to put severe restrictions on those sinister human beings and their behavior in commerce and free enterprise.
The truth of the matter is that Al Gore is only listening to SOME of the scientists.
As we have repeatedly shown in countless articles on The Liberty Sphere, the scientific community is far from unanimous on the issue. In fact, with each passing month new evidence emerges that strongly suggests that the 'Al Gore hypothesis' which was born out of the environmentalist movement is totally wrong.
Americans are increasingly waking up to the scam. A poll just this week found that over 70% of Americans now believe that climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon and not primarily a result of human activity.
The hard science supports their belief.
One scientist in particular has some sharp words for Mr. Gore and his film, 'An Inconvenient Truth.' Many of the assertions made by Mr. Gore and the film have been shown to be false. And this could spell real trouble for the Democrats in 2008 if they turn to Gore as their nominee.

Showdown Vote on Immigration TODAY
Washington, DC (TLS). The Senate is expected to vote on the immigration compromise bill in today's session. Although 64 Senators voted in favor of 'cloture' to proceed to the consideration of the bill, The Liberty Sphere has learned that there are already defections among the Republicans who originally voted for cloture.
The tentative coalition of Democrats and top Republicans is being severely strained by what some Republican Senators describe as 'being railroaded.'
Republicans complain that they are being railroaded by the Democratic majority which has cut off consideration of their amendments and chosen instead to consider only those amendments offered by Democrats.
This, according to one Republican, is tantamount to being 'silenced.'
The tactical maneuver by the Democratic leadership to ignore all Republican amendments to the bill is the force driving the defections from the coalition.
According to Fox News Wednesday afternoon, there are already 4 Republican Senators who originally voted for cloture yet who indicate that now they plan to vote AGAINST the bill. More defections are expected.
And this is not the only bad news for the bill's supporters. Sources in the House indicate that if the bill is approved by the Senate, it will be dead-on-arrival as soon as it comes to the House.
Within the House there is a much stronger coalition among conservative Democrats and Republicans who oppose the bill than is the case in the Senate. Thus, the House, which by its very nature is closer to the people, is in no mood to antagonize their constituents any further by approving a measure that 70% of the voters deplore.
As for now, the only thing we can do is wait and see. We can only hope that the Senators considering this bill have been listening to the ire of the electorate.

SUPREME COURT GUTS MCCAIN-FEINGOLD
Washington, DC (TLS). In a striking victory for free speech, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a key component of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform that banned issues-oriented ads prior to election day.
The Court stated that disallowing these ads was an unnecessary infringement on the First Amendment right of freedom of speech.
McCain referred to the ruling as 'unfortunate,' another reason why he should never be elected President.
The Liberty Sphere has repeatedly called attention to the unconstitutional provisions of McCain-Feingold in limiting free speech in this country. Groups such as National Right to Life, the National Rifle Association, and many other groups were prohibited by McCain-Feingold from running issues ads prior to elections.
In ruling against this core provision of McCain-Feingold, the Court correctly restored free speech to the political process.

ONLY 14% APPROVE OF CONGRESS
Washington, DC (TLS). According to the Gallup organization, never before in the history of polling data has the approval rating of Congress dipped so low. The dismal figure is a mere 14%...way below the approval rating of President Bush, which stands at about 29%.
This means that fully 86% of the American public disapproves of the manner in which the Democrat-controlled Congress is handling the affairs of the country.

Is YOUR Pic Here? Amazing Smiling Mug Shots
Washington, DC (TLS). Apparently there is nothing like a big smile just before being thrown into the slammer. At least that is the thing that must have been on the minds of the following persons just before being hauled to jail.
The Smoking Gun has mug shots of some of the happiest jail-birds in the nation.
Remember, this is a big holiday weekend as the season for summer vacations kicks into high gear. If you drive, don't drink. If you drink, don't drive. It really is simple as that.
Fail to follow that simple rule of thumb, and you may wind up like these ladies and gentlemen who are apparently too smashed to care that they are getting ready to become residents of a cell down at the big house.

Pics of S.C. Teacher in Court Facing Sex Charges
Goose Creek, SC (TLS). WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia has posted a slide-show of S.C. teacher Kanesa Hopkins, 31, as she appears in court to face charges of engaging in criminal sexual conduct with a female student.
Hopkins was recently named 'Teacher of the Year' by her school, the Westview Middle School in Goose Creek. A sworn affidavit also indicates that Hopkins was the Sunday School teacher of the alleged victim.

UPDATE! Top 10 Reasons The Vegan Diet (Will) MIGHT Kill You
UPDATE! In the interest of fairness I must say that those of you who wrote in to make your case concerning the safety of the vegan diet, when undertaken with due diligence to insure all the proper nutrients, have made a good point. The Vegan Diet will not necessarily kill you. It MIGHT kill you if you don't know what you are doing and fail to eat the variety of food necessary for good health.
But then again, any diet might kill you. Eating the way I do could be deadly if I fail to address the potential problems inherent in high protein-low simple carbs diets. Thus, the vegan diet is no more deadly or unhealthy than any other.
It is important to note, as some of you have mentioned, that some societies have survived very well on vegetarian diets of various kinds. In like manner, the Eskimos in the Arctic region have survived very well by eating nothing but what they had available--fish that were high in fats, and other animal proteins indigenous to the region.
I want to say it has been fun debating this issue with all of you from the vegan message boards. I wish you all the best in your quest for good health.

1. Vegans are not as healthy and do not live as long as their meat-eating counterparts.
2. Vegans are at a much higher risk for developing massive strokes.
3. Eggs and certain species of cold water fish contain valuable complete protein and monosaturated fats that help PREVENT heart disease.
4. Vegans are more likely to show higher blood sugar levels, which can lead to diabetes.
5. Diets that are based upon eliminating certain categories of foods, such as the vegan diet, can lead to striking imbalances in essential nutrients, such as iron.
6. Vegan diets are usually extremely low in fats, some of which can help prevent inflammation, arthritis, and other degenerative diseases.
7. Portions of the world population where the diet is limited to meat and fat, such as Iceland, and the Arctic, exhibit strikingly more robust health and longevity than those populations that eat strictly plant-based foods. Of the world's most disease-laden cultures, where lifespans are shockingly short, most of these cultures subsist solely on a plant-based diet.
8. Nobel Prize winning biochemist Linus Pauling discovered in the 1970s that higher blood sugar levels is the main cause of heart disease, and NOT cholesterol and fats. Plant-based diets contribute to a spike in blood sugar due to the absence of fats and animal proteins.
9. The latest studies show that persons who eat a low carbohydrate diet over the course of a year exhibit more heart-healthy indicators in their blood-panel than those who eat a strictly vegetarian diet.
10. Overweight patients lost more weight and kept it off longer on lower carbohydrate diets than did those who ate a meat-less fare, such as the Pritikin or Ornish plans.
Remember to check with your doctor before starting any new diet or exercise plan. And remember to eat your veggies and fruits like your grandmother told you, but just don't eliminate the meats and good fats. Balance is the key.
