Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:
Weather Underground provides all the details on record cold temperatures that are sweeping into the U.S. Already, 30-year old record cold temps have been broken, and more is on the way...including snow.
Speaking of the weather, Gateway Pundit shows just how thoroughly goofy Hillary Clinton looked yesterday talking about 'global warming' when all the data since 1997 says otherwise.
Gateway also has a special report exposing Obama's new 'climate czar' as a self-avowed Socialist who apparently has a major conflict of interest to boot!
Armed and Safe posts today's must-read entitled, 'Surrendering the Constitutional High Ground.'
Nicki provides a good summary of John Stossel's analysis and conclusion that financial bailouts don't work. And if you have doubt, look at today's markets. After the trillion dollar taxpayer gravy-train, stocks are still plummeting.
Breda has the wrap-up of last night's Gun Nuts Radio show with a guest from the NRA. Audio is included.
Pax Parabellum provides today's edition of 'Random Shots'--an information junkie's paradise.
Mike McCarville reports that the political Press Corp is shrinking due to financial troubles for newspapers. An example of this is cited in Oklahoma.
JR says that today is the last day to contact your Senator to oppose the Holder nomination. Confirmation hearings begin tomorrow.
Blogstitution continues with his series on 'Obama Then and Now.' Today's segment is 'What a Phony.'
Dark Blog notes that the days of compromise have passed. The enemy has smelled blood, and they're going after our liberties with a vengeance.
Western Rifle Shooters Association has the quote of the day from China, which has been buying up U.S. debt. And the news isn't good.
The BoBo Files correctly observes that nothing in the Constitution requires us to give foreign enemies of the U.S. access to our court system. But this is exactly what the Obamination plans to do!
Days of our Trailers notes that the EU finally has a President who has a clue. I agree!
Walls of the City says another myth bites the dust when it comes to guns. A good read!
Texas Fred comments on the tax woes of Obama's treasury nominee.
The Rustmeister points out a gross omission at the Army War College that has led to some of our present troubles.
Lots of good things are going on with David Codrea these days. All of the details are at War on Guns. He's even going to be on the same radio show with Ann Coulter in the morning! Good for you, David!
Gun Rights Examiner has Codrea's column for today entitled, 'Kill the Bill!' This is important!
Say Uncle says that New Jersey is going to start helping the Feds 'pursue gun traffickers' across state borders. And he says they're going to start 'knocking on doors.' Mmmm.
Sebastian provides follow-up commentary on criticism of the NRA's handling of the Holder nomination.
Ride Fast and Shoot Straight has a must-read entitled, 'Where Cops Make Up the Law.'
And as if THAT's not enough, Robb Allen reports that a SWAT team frisked all gun rights supporters and those wearing CCW patches at a board meeting in Orange County.
Sipsy Street Irregulars writes an in-depth analysis of Senator Arlen Specter's dilemma as the Holder confirmation hearings gear up for tomorrow. Good reading!
Michelle Malkin is live-blogging the debate on the House floor on S-Chip--socialized medicine in the name of 'helping the children,' some of whom just happen to be in their 20s...
I hate to end today on a negative note, but this must be reported. Dr. John Lott says that the Indiana Supreme Court has allowed a lawsuit against a gun manufacturer to proceed.

Obama's Next Mistake: Hillary as Sec of State
Reports are swirling around various media outlets this evening that Barack Obama has offered the job of Secretary of State to Hillary Clinton and that Clinton has accepted.
But, like Michelle Malkin, I am skeptical of this news.
The Obama team has yet to fully vet former President Bill Clinton's numerous ties to foreign governments, not to mention his Foundation, which has accepted extravagant gifts from foreign heads of state.
All of this adds up to pitfalls around every corner should Hillary become Secretary of State.
If the reports are true, the news would be very bad. Bill Clinton was a disaster for U.S. foreign policy. There is no reason to think Hillary would be any better.
Thus, Obama's next big mistake, and there are many, would be selecting a person whose views on foreign policy are similar to those of the man (her husband) whose many mistakes led to at least 4 terrorist attacks on the U.S., 2 of those being on our own soil.

Obama, Media Play Up the Race Card
As it has become clear in recent weeks that Obama is losing significant support among working class white men and white women in general, the Obama camp and their compatriots in the mainstream media are playing up the race card.
One by one, the commentators, the analysts, the pundits are jumping on board the latest Obama talking points memo that there is a 'hidden racism' among many Democrats that may cost Obama the election.
And thus, the stage is being set for a possible future scenario. Should McCain win, Obama and the talking heads will claim it was all because of racism. They will claim Obama's defeat will have nothing at all to do with his extremist ideology.
I can just hear them now. 'If Obama had been a white man, he would have won handily.'
In this manner the liberals will try to totally discredit the election of John McCain and Sarah Palin to the 2 highest offices in the land.
And I suppose racism led to Obama's snatching victory from the jaws of defeat as he surprisingly robbed the supposed chosen one, Hillary Clinton, of the Democratic nomination. One year ago, my friends, everyone assumed that nothing could stop Hillary's march and that she would sail into the White House with little or no problem.
Nothing except Barack Obama. But, of course, racism was the reason Barack was able to defeat one of the most celebrated celebrities of our time, not to mention one of the most powerful women of our time, Hillary Clinton, wife of 'the first African-American President.'
If Obama loses, it will be because the American people are smarter than to allow a novice with an extremist voting record into the White House.
All of the circumstances would point in Obama's favor. He should be ahead of McCain by at least 15 percentage points at this stage, given an unpopular war, an unpopular President, and troubles in the oil and banking industries.
But he is having trouble convincing the electorate that he is honest and trustworthy, that he is reliable in a national emergency, that heaping more taxes onto an already stressed economy is going to actually help the economy, and that he has the moral and ethical authority to lead.
Thus, the man who should be leaving McCain behind in a cloud of dust is running neck-and-neck with the Arizona Senator and is losing ground bigtime in some key battleground states.
We can take some comfort in the fact that there are yet millions of voters in the 'blue states' that are rational enough to see that Barack Obama is the wrong man at the wrong time with the wrong ideas for the country.
And that has nothing to do with race.

Does Hillary Know Something We Don't?
Hillary Clinton's campaign operatives stunned many observers Wednesday by announcing that the candidate was not handing over her pledged delegates to Barack Obama until the Democratic National Convention in August.
Interestingly enough, Hillary also refrained from using the term 'withdraw from the race' in her announcement on Saturday. She said she was 'suspending' her campaign.
The word 'suspension' carries the connotation that the hiatus is temporary. 'Suspended' players in sports, for example, return to play after their period of suspension.
It is thus highly suspicious that what Hillary did not say comes as a prelude to the latest in a series of scandals to plague the Barack Obama campaign.
Obama had chosen Jim Johnson--the former head of Fannie Mae, the government's mortgage giant--to be on his Vice Presidential selection committee. It turns out that Johnson was involved in a mortgage scheme with the scandal-plagued Countrywide Mortgage Corporation--a scheme that eventually led to the gigantic plunge of home values and the current crisis in the mortgage industry.
On the campaign trail, Obama had referred to Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo as a 'plague.' Yet it was Mozilo who apparently devised the scheme in which Jim Johnson participated as the head of Fannie Mae.
And this brings us to today's actions where Obama throws another one under the bus, claiming that Johnson was not the same Jim Johnson he always knew. Thus, Obama 'de-selected' Johnson from the committee.
How many times has Obama done this very thing over the past 3 months? Most of us have lost count. At the very least he has thrown family members and his Pastor under the bus. But there are many, many more who once could be counted as 'Barack's close friends and associates' who have now been relegated to the status of shunned has-beens.
Now back to Hillary. Perhaps she and Bill are simply waiting in the wings for Obama to slip on a banana peel, knowing that he has enough scandal in the closet to do him in eventually.
The problem is, the Clintons have very little to offer that's different from Obama.

No, She Didn't
At least not yet.
Hillary did not announce that she would be Barack's running mate today. If fact, there was no mention of the issue from either one.
This, of course, does not mean that she won't be. Barack may be waiting a bit to see how the Hillary and Bill factor plays out.
But as for now, she's not on the ticket.

Is She or Isn't She?
Today Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will put on a display in Washington that is supposed to symbolize 'party unity' and the burying of the hatchets. Some speculate that she will be Barack's choice for running mate. I say no.
What do you think? Is she or isn't she?
I maintain that the so-called 'dream ticket' has far too much inherent baggage to work. Who in their right mind would want a former President hanging around, making a nuisance of himself, and more than likely embarrassing your administration with his penchant for popping off at the mouth?
And make no mistake about it, if Hillary is on the ticket, Bill will dominate the campaign, and if they are elected, he will dominate Barack's administration.
But the main reason I believe Barack will not make this decision is his wife. Michelle hates Hillary with a passion. And, at the end of the day, Michelle is the one Barack has to live with.

AP Reports Obama Wins Democratic Nomination
According to their tally sheets, the Associated Press is reporting this afternoon that Barack Obama has won enough delegates to become the Democratic nominee for President. However, Hillary Clinton is claiming a 25-point landslide against Obama in the South Dakota primary today, which places the AP's story into question.
Pressure is mounting on Hillary to show up in St. Paul tonight and concede the nomination to Obama.
Hillary, on the other hand, is saying she will concede only if Obama reaches a total of 2118 delegates, which includes regular delegates and super-delegates.
There is some question as to whether or not Obama can reach that figure with today's primaries.

Hillary's Pipe Dream
What was once a foregone conclusion for Hillary Clinton a year ago has now become but a pipe dream. For all intents and purposes, the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination is over, and Barack Obama has won.
With the bosses of the Democratic Party making the decision on Saturday to essentially ignore the votes of the hundreds of thousands of Democrats who voted in Florida and Michigan, Hillary's chances for wresting the nomination away from Obama are next to nil.
Instead of honoring the wishes of the voters in the two states in question, the Democratic Party bosses decided to divide up the delegates, giving Hillary less than what the voters indicated and Obama more than he deserved.
This 'compromise plan' has practically insured Hillary's defeat for the nomination. And her supporters know it. One supporter in particular had to hauled out of the room due to her vehement protests.
Hillary has vowed to take the matter to the Convention floor. There is nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that it scares the Party elites into a state of panic.
However, the numbers are not on Hillary's side. Although she racked up a major win in Puerto Rico on Sunday, it will not matter come Tuesday as the Democratic primaries come to a close. Obama stands to win what's left, and that will give him enough delegates to put him over the top.
Don't count on Hillary to bow out gracefully, however. Her supporters are deeply convinced they got the shaft by the Democratic Party big wigs on Saturday, and they are boiling mad. Look for a fight on the Convention floor unless Hillary finds a way to swallow up her loss and drop out of the race prior to the Convention.
But this will not do a thing to help soothe the hurt feelings on the part of Clinton supporters. So convinced are they about their candidate's abilities and credentials that a significant number will support McCain if Hillary isn't the nominee.
Although some believe that Obama's charming public manner will be enough to be an opiate for the masses, it would be a huge mistake to discount the candidate's glaring weaknesses and liabilities, as well as the fact that he is losing the white vote, the Jewish vote, and the Hispanic vote.
Thus, Obama's chances of winning key states such as Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio are shaky at best. His best chance is Pennsylvania, but he has already insulted millions in the state by portraying them essentially as cousin-humpin' rednecks who cling to their guns and religion out of fear.
Florida's large senior population, which includes a large number of Jews, will be a big problem for Obama. And this is not even taking into consideration Florida's massive Cuban-American population that already views the Senator with deep suspicion.
Ohio is a toss-up. But McCain has as good a chance as any to beat Obama in a state that has historically gone Republican in key elections.
And as for Hillary, perhaps the only vindication she can get out of the whole thing is knowing that in attempting to appease the Obama people, the elites within her Party have probably handed McCain a gift on a golden platter. She tried to tell them Obama can't win the general election.
It truly makes one wonder if the Party bosses are as concerned about winning the election as they are about avoiding causing an uproar in their African-American base by denying Obama the nomination.

Bill Blows His Stack Again
He said that there is a 'cover-up' to keep people from knowing how popular Hillary really is, but he didn't say who was behind it.
He said there is a 'vast conspiracy' to deny Hillary the Democratic nomination, but he never specified who was part of it.
He said that Democratic super-delegates were being 'intimidated and brow-beaten' into supporting Barack Obama. One can only assume the former President was referring specifically to Obama himself, as well as his campaign staff. On this count Clinton is exactly right. Reports from those covering the campaign indicate that Obama and staff have, indeed, put the squeeze on the super-delegates.
Fresh from his last public appearance during which he launched into a tirade, Bill Clinton rambled on and on during a speech on Monday about how unfair the 2008 Presidential campaign has been to his wife.
While much of what Clinton says is way over the top, particularly when he brings up old, worn out Clintonian conspiracy theories and charges of 'cover-ups,' one thing we can grant him--the mainstream media has, indeed, been unfair to Hillary, not to mention their outright smear of Republicans.
It is well-known and documented that the mainstream media has been on the front row of Obama-worshippers. They can hardly contain their glee over the prospects of an Obama Presidency, although such a scenario would be one of the worst nightmares to ever hit the country.
And yes, he is much worse than even Hillary.
So Bill Clinton may well have a point. And maybe he has a right to be angry.
I'm just glad that finally a Democrat is on the receiving end of the mainstream media's disdain. Let the record show that a Democrat, a former President and a popular one at that, has admitted that the mainstream media is so blatantly biased as to deliberately portray his wife in a negative light.
Conservatives have been lamenting this bias since the 1950s.

Hillary Ponders Exit Plan
With Barack 'A New Gaffe Per Day' Obama having all but wrapped up the Democratic nomination for President, and with Bill Clinton touting daughter Chelsea as Presidential material for 2016, Hillary Clinton has begun pondering an exit plan.
Although she claims she is determined to take the fight for the nomination to the Convention floor, which is not the 'deep dark and ominous' scenario that the mainstream media and their darlings of the Democratic Party make it out to be, Hillary is under increasing pressure to drop out of the race in June.
It is clear that the big wigs of the Democratic Party have bet the farm on Obama, in spite of his lack of appeal to working class white voters, Hispanics, and Jews.
In addition, Obama has a penchant for uttering blatant untruths and gaffes that make Dan Quayle look like Winston Churchill.
Still, the Democrats have not only embraced a terribly flawed candidate simply because he has 'star quality' appeal, but they are obviously willing to take the chance that Americans are dumb enough to ignore his extremist views and fall down at his feet in Messiah-like worship like the rest of the sheeple who have orgasms each time he utters the word 'change.'
Thus, Hillary ponders her exit strategy, having been thrown under the bus by those within her own Party who have been longtime friends and allies.
The best-case scenario for a Hillary exit, short of pulling off an Obama-Clinton ticket, is for Obama to 'offer' her the position of running mate, which she will graciously decline. If she says 'yes' then Obama has big problems, not with the voters but with fact that Hillary will drag Bill back to the White House (assuming they win), and wifey-pooh Michelle Obama will be a terribly unhappy camper, having to contend with a Vice-President whom she hates with a passion.
In spite of the fact that many Democrats and those within the mainstream media believe an Obama-Clinton ticket will be the surefire ticket to the White House, the team will most assuredly hit some brick walls on the campaign trail.
Both of these candidates are seriously flawed and will provide ample fodder for the Republicans to remind voters of the corruption of the Clintons, not to mention the extremism of Obama.
Realistically speaking, I don't believe the 'dream ticket' will happen, though I could be wrong. Too many problems stand in the way of this scenario for it to work successfully, not the least of which is a former President of the United States lingering around who has a penchant for popping off at the mouth, much to the chagrin of most who have known him for years.
Apparently Hillary has caught 'Bill's Disease' as well, given her latest gaffe in which she brought up the assassination of Bobby Kennedy in June of the Presidential race in 1967.
How badly do Barack and Michelle want or need these two? We shall see.

Apparently Hillary has caught 'Bill's Disease' as well, given her latest gaffe in which she brought up the assassination of Bobby Kennedy in June of the Presidential race in 1967.
How badly do Barack and Michelle want or need these two? We shall see.

Notes From the World of Politics
Senator Ted Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Doctors at Massachusetts General stated that the tumor is the cause of Kennedy's seizures, which sent him to the hospital over the weekend by ambulance. He was then airlifted to Massachusetts General, where he underwent a battery of tests.
Kennedy's treatments will more than likely consist of a combination of chemotherapy and radiation, although surgery has not yet been ruled out.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Senator and his family during this difficult time.
John McCain has taken to task Barack Obama over his policy statements on Cuba. Speaking before a group of Miami residents and Cuban-Americans, McCain denounced Obama's plans to ease the embargo against the Communist nation and meet with Cuban dictator Raul Castro.
Political observers believe that McCain was attempting to appeal to the vast Cuban-American community in Miami with his policy positions on Cuba. Beyond that, McCain is right on Cuba. As long as the island nation is held in the grip of Communism right in the backdoor of our own country, there should be no negotiation or easing of the embargo.
Kentucky and Oregon are holding their Democratic Presidential Primaries today. Hillary Clinton is expected to win Kentucky and Barack Obama is expected to win Oregon.
With all of the talk about Hillary dropping out of the race, we should be reminded that at this stage of the game neither candidate will win enough delegates to secure the nomination. You won't hear this from the mainstream media, however, which obviously is 'in the tank' for Obama and would prefer that Hillary get out of his way.
She has no such plans, and rightly so. Originally, political conventions were designed to select the nominees for the two Parties. Thus, there is nothing unusual that the selection process would to to the Convention floor, despite the fact that the mainstream media treats the subject as if it were a major and disastrous disruption.
Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo believes that it is best for the Democrats if the two sides come together for an Obama-Clinton ticket. Stating that he believes this is the only recipe for success, the former Governor says he is encouraging the Clinton camp to seriously consider such a thing.
On the other hand, former Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro states that Barack Obama is a sexist and that she may well 'vote for someone else' in the general election in the Fall. Although she does not state who that 'someone else' may be, there really isn't much choice other than John McCain, unless Ferraro jumps over to Ralph Nader's neo-Commie enviro-wackos.

West Virginia Democrats Vote Today
Hillary Clinton is widely expected to win the West Virginia Democratic primary, which is being held today. Barack Obama has already all but conceded the state to Hillary in his remarks on Monday.
West Virginia is one of those states Obama would have a very difficult time carrying as the Democratic nominee. The state is full of religious folk who love their guns.
And we can't forget that this is the land of legendary Senator Robert 'Sheets' Byrd, D-WV, who is a former Klansman. Many residents of the state have reported to pollsters that they suspect Obama is a Muslim because of his name.
The thing is, if West Virginians would think about it for a bit, they would realize that Hillary Clinton is not their kind of Democrat, either. Her record on guns is as bad as Obama's. And her prescriptions for America's 'ills' are just as Socialistic as her opponent's.
Check back later in the day for a full update on the West Virginia Democratic primary.

Pay Attention to the Spouses
It's true that Michelle Obama, Cindy McCain, and Bill Clinton are not running for President. But it's a big mistake to assume that spouses of candidates do not wield significant influence over their husbands/wives.
In Michelle Obama's case, that influence may be more significant than any other political spouse outside of Bill Clinton.
Sources close to the Obama campaign insist that Michelle Obama has vetoed any talk of the possibility that Hillary Clinton could be her husband's running mate and potential Vice-President.
In fact, inside sources, according to 'Real Clear Politics,' state that Michelle's hostility toward Hillary goes far beyond a mere objection to her name being on the Democratic ticket. Michelle has been open sniping at Hillary for many months now, and those behind the scenes say that the hostility often erupts into outright rage.
The rage of Michelle Obama has already been the subject of numerous news reports, particularly with regard to her country. Apparently that rage is sometimes directed at individuals as well.
Pay close attention to the spouses of candidates.
One less-than-stellar pundit on CNN had the audacity to suggest over the weekend that voters should totally forget about political spouses, given that the candidates themselves are the ones being elected.
True enough, at least with regard to the latter part of that statement.
But one must also weigh and consider the views, temperament, and style of the political spouse. Such a consideration will often reveal significant facts about the candidates themselves.
For example, with Bill Clinton's love for politics and his daily tirades out on the campaign trail, does anyone actually believe that he will not be a major player in a Hillary Clinton administration? Similarly, with Michelle Obama's penchant for opening mouth and inserting foot, revealing her deep and abiding hatred for America, does anyone realistically expect Barack Obama to ignore the powerful manner in which she presents her desires and points of view?
It is quickly becoming clear that Michelle Obama is every bit as much the loose cannon as Teresa Hines Kerry.
And this is not a gender issue. On the campaign trail there are certain things that best remain unspoken. And this goes for the candidates, as well as their spouses.
