Poll Shocker! It's Not What You Think

Making no attempt to hide whatsoever that it is solidly 'in the tank' for Obama, the mainstream media has rolled out a plethora of polls of late, supposedly showing that Barack Obama has opened a significant lead over John McCain, one poll even showing a double-digit bombshell.

But wait.

As usual, there is something they are not telling you.

The latest CNN poll has some shocking numbers, but they are not what you might think. The polls showing Obama opening a significant lead over McCain are skewed because they fail to take into consideration one big factor--deep Democratic discontent over the fact that Hillary is not the nominee.

CNN shows that only 54% of Hillary supporters are backing Barack Obama for President. In short, that is not good. That means that a whopping 46% of Democrats who supported Hillary Clinton are not throwing their support behind Barack Obama.

This could spell big problems of a gargantuan nature for the Obama campaign in the general election.

Fully one-third of Hillary supporters now say they will stay home on election day rather than vote for Barack Obama, a number that is up over one month ago.

The poll conducted by CNN shows a definite trend among the Democrats that holds no good news for Obama. Instead of the Party healing its rift and 'coming together,' it appears there is growing discontent that Obama has earned for himself a 'say anything' candidate moniker.

Early in June only 35% of Democrats said they preferred Hillary over Obama. Since that time, that number has risen to 46%--almost half of the Democrats polled.

These figures show that Obama is on shaky ground within his own Party, regardless of what some of the national polls say about a head-to-head matchup with McCain.

With McCain getting some of the disgruntled Hillary supporters, and with the other part of the 46% staying home, it would appear that not only is Obama's halo tarnished and falling away, but he is growing a set of horns.

Pin On, Pin Off, Pin On...

It reminds me of the scene from the movie The Karate Kid--'wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off.' Barack Obama can't seem to make up his mind about whether or not he wants to wear a pin of the American Flag on his lapel.

The last time I saw him he was commenting on the death of NBC newsman Tim Russert. Obama was wearing the flag pin on his lapel that day, after having made such a big deal a few months back about taking if off.

One remembers Obama 'waxing' eloquent (no pun intended) as he defended his decision to remove the pin because 'wearing a lapel pin of the flag doesn't make one patriotic.'

But now, apparently, the decision has been made, for one reason or another, to put the pin back on.

If the candidate is attempting to squelch the perception that he is unpatriotic by putting the flag pin back on, it is too late. The damage has already been done.

Hillary Wins, But The REAL News Is...

As expected, Hillary Clinton has won the Democratic primary in West Virginia by an overwhelming margin of landslide proportions. But the REAL news is what the exit polling shows concerning Barack Obama.

According to West Virginia Democrats who voted today, Obama is not trustworthy. 51% stated that the candidate has a problem with credibility and honesty.

In addition, one-third of Hillary's supporters said that if Obama is the nominee they will jump ship and vote for John McCain. Another 24% said they would stay home.

And the most damning fact of all in the exit polling is that upwards of 55% of Democrats in West Virginia stated that they would NOT vote for Barack Obama if he is their Party's nominee. This means that in a head-to-head matchup with John McCain, Obama would lose by double-digits, similar to his loss to Hillary tonight.

Apparently the 'Reverend Wright' factor has hurt Obama much worse than anyone had anticipated.

And that's not all. Obama faces Kentucky Democrats next, who are similar demographically to West Virginia Democrats. We can safely bet he will lose big time there as well.

John McCain, thus, has a golden opportunity at this moment in time to make significant inroads into 'Reagan Democrats' in the rust belt--Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, etc. Hillary has appealed to these mostly blue-collar white workers, but with her campaign faltering and over 20 million dollars in debt, McCain has an open window.

Obama will not get the Reagan Democrat vote. He is perceived as elitist and untrustworthy. He has made fun of their guns, religion, and lifestyle. For Obama, the chance to get these votes is over.

This is why McCain MUST stop talking about 'global warming' and come to Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, and Illinois to talk about the nation's defense and 'values,' i.e., the sanctity of human life, the importance of family and worship, the commonly-held view in the heartland that a human being's most basic right is to self-defense and self-protection, i.e., gun rights.

McCain must also discuss with these voters economic issues, such as jobs, gas prices, healthcare. But he must do so in such a way that he doesn't scare these voters with any notion of a tax hike. In hard times, much to the chagrin of money-grubbing Democrats, voters do NOT want the government taking more money out of their paychecks at a time when they are having trouble making ends meet.

Thus, the West Virginia Democratic primary has shown us the stark reality of Obama's glaring weakness and vulnerability. McCain should move quickly to capitalize on that vulnerability.

The Credibility Factor and the Mainstream Media

The mainstream media have finally caught on to the fact that Hillary Clinton has a huge credibility problem. Even CBS News featured the Clinton credibility problem as its lead story Tuesday evening, with one of its political analysts admitting that the candidate is now caught up in a major flap that goes to core of her integrity or lack thereof.

It is not simply that Hillary cannot be trusted. We now know that she and her campaign will develop carefully-crafted lies that not only exaggerate her 'vast experience' but which invent incidents that never happened.

The thing that is most interesting, however, centers on the mainstream media's handling of Clinton's credibility. Reporters and news editors have known for quite some time about the candidate's integrity problem.

Yet they are just now getting around to reporting it at length.

It is a safe bet to assume that the plan was to sit on the information forever, that is, until one man by the name of Barack Obama burst onto the scene, and suddenly the media had a more glitzy liberal star to promote.

Had Hillary Clinton continued with her seemingly unstoppable march toward the nomination, I would be willing to wager that CBS would have never run the story about her lies concerning her trip to Bosnia.

Now, however, CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN can afford to throw Hillary under the bus. Obama is their man, in spite of the fact that he has credibility issues of his own.

What better candidate could come along to appeal to the sensitivities of the American Left?

He is African-American, which helps to relieve the perennial guilt experienced by liberals concerning the manner in which Blacks were treated before most of them were born.

He has 'camera appeal,' and the liberals and the media always love a candidate that looks and acts like a Hollywood star.

He is rabidly anti-gun and once stated as an Illinois legislator that all handguns should be banned. Most of the major print media and big TV networks LOVE this kind of thinking.

And last but not least, he wants Blacks and Whites to come together to 'dismantle the American business-industrial complex.'

Wow, a Commie to boot! What more could NBC want?

It is also highly suspicious that CBS decided to roll out the piece on Hillary's Bosnian foray just a few weeks prior to the Pennsylvania Primary, a critical state to the candidate if she has any hope of stopping the Obama bandwagon.

One gets the strong feeling that the mainstream media has decided it wants Obama to wrap this thing up quickly lest John McCain gain too much from the fist-fights of the Demos.

And, in their view Hillary has become a liability in spite of past love-fests with the Clintons.

Thus, she is expendable.

Perhaps the media had best remember that sometimes you get what you hope for. Increasingly Obama is looking no better for the Democrats' prospects than Hillary.
