The Credibility Factor and the Mainstream Media

The mainstream media have finally caught on to the fact that Hillary Clinton has a huge credibility problem. Even CBS News featured the Clinton credibility problem as its lead story Tuesday evening, with one of its political analysts admitting that the candidate is now caught up in a major flap that goes to core of her integrity or lack thereof.

It is not simply that Hillary cannot be trusted. We now know that she and her campaign will develop carefully-crafted lies that not only exaggerate her 'vast experience' but which invent incidents that never happened.

The thing that is most interesting, however, centers on the mainstream media's handling of Clinton's credibility. Reporters and news editors have known for quite some time about the candidate's integrity problem.

Yet they are just now getting around to reporting it at length.

It is a safe bet to assume that the plan was to sit on the information forever, that is, until one man by the name of Barack Obama burst onto the scene, and suddenly the media had a more glitzy liberal star to promote.

Had Hillary Clinton continued with her seemingly unstoppable march toward the nomination, I would be willing to wager that CBS would have never run the story about her lies concerning her trip to Bosnia.

Now, however, CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN can afford to throw Hillary under the bus. Obama is their man, in spite of the fact that he has credibility issues of his own.

What better candidate could come along to appeal to the sensitivities of the American Left?

He is African-American, which helps to relieve the perennial guilt experienced by liberals concerning the manner in which Blacks were treated before most of them were born.

He has 'camera appeal,' and the liberals and the media always love a candidate that looks and acts like a Hollywood star.

He is rabidly anti-gun and once stated as an Illinois legislator that all handguns should be banned. Most of the major print media and big TV networks LOVE this kind of thinking.

And last but not least, he wants Blacks and Whites to come together to 'dismantle the American business-industrial complex.'

Wow, a Commie to boot! What more could NBC want?

It is also highly suspicious that CBS decided to roll out the piece on Hillary's Bosnian foray just a few weeks prior to the Pennsylvania Primary, a critical state to the candidate if she has any hope of stopping the Obama bandwagon.

One gets the strong feeling that the mainstream media has decided it wants Obama to wrap this thing up quickly lest John McCain gain too much from the fist-fights of the Demos.

And, in their view Hillary has become a liability in spite of past love-fests with the Clintons.

Thus, she is expendable.

Perhaps the media had best remember that sometimes you get what you hope for. Increasingly Obama is looking no better for the Democrats' prospects than Hillary.
