NYT's Woes Worse Than Expected

The New York Times is considering potential asset sales and is in discussions with lenders as it prepares for one of the “most challenging years” in its history.

Advertising revenue fell sharply at the paper in November, dragged down by weaker spending in the entertainment, property and automotive advertising categories.

As the financial woes of the NYT deepen, the newspaper is considering the possibility of selling off some of its major assets, including but not limited to The Boston Globe and its 17% interest in the Boston Red Sox.

The Financial Times has the complete story.

Payback is Sweet

Payback is sweet. The New York Times is flat broke. The Times had to borrow against its building in Manhattan just to stay afloat.

It's about time. I say, 'Good riddance!'

For all the times that the NYT slanted stories to favor liberals, impugned the integrity of conservatives, engaged in Leftist propaganda, helped Obama cover up his numerous weaknesses and sleazy associations, and generally served as a Pravda for the Left, I say they are getting what's coming to them.

As always, nobody says it quite like Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs, who is already celebrating the demise of the Times.

Dowd, Quinn Gang Up on Sarah Palin Today

The attack dogs of the far-Left in the mainstream media plan a coordinated attack-blitz on GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin today in the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Both newspapers plan to put their premier Leftist women, Maureen Dowd and Sally Quinn, at the forefront of the attack, delivering what they hope to be a one-two knockout punch on the Alaska Governor.

Dowd and Quinn will claim that Palin isn't qualified to be President, in spite of the fact that the head of the Democratic ticket is an untested rookie who is more mouth than anything else. They plan to attack her conservative politics. They even plan to attack her religion.

You see, liberal elitists such as Dowd and Quinn look askance at anyone who is not only deeply religious but who belongs to a denomination that is conservative and evangelical. This is why in their view Barack Obama is okay. He belongs to one of the most extremist liberal denominations in the world, the United Church of Christ, which endorses liberal politics nearly 100% of the time.

Palin, on the other hand, is Assemblies of God, a conservative, evangelical group that tends to be suspicious of liberal politics and its adherents in leftwing 'Christian' denominations, where one hears more about liberal community activism than Jesus Christ.

Dowd and Quinn hope that their vitriol against Palin will rally the feminist troops out and about, turning them against the very first woman who actually has a good chance of being elected to the 2nd highest office in the land.

However, look for the Dowd-Quinn smear campaign to backfire in the faces of Democrats. Millions of women in the heartland of American detest the views of Dowd and Quinn, that is, if they have ever read them. Most probably have not even heard of the two extremists, and even if they have, they are not inclined to give proponents of abortion-on-demand and big government nanny-state programs the time of day.

Dowd and Quinn totally misread the mindset of most women in this country. Sure, radical feminists will agree with them. But most American women are anything but adherents to the Dowd-Quinn school of Leftist thought.

And when they see these two mount a concerted effort to destroy a very popular woman with whom they can connect at a very deep emotional level, they will turn against not only the two writers, but the New York Times and the Washington Post, as well as the extremists within the Democratic Party who seem to support only those women who espouse ultra-liberal ideas.

Stupid, Idiotic, Clueless Yankee Woman

Other than being a very attractive woman, there is practically no redeeming value to the patent drivel of neo-Commie New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd.

She is an airhead. Her columns are sophomoric, detached from reality, lacking in insight, and basically nothing but anti-conservative diatribes.

I find her to be beneath contempt.

The fact that the New York Times publishes this totally irrational balderdash is only more proof that the newspaper is no longer a newspaper but a tabloid. Someone should go ahead and put it out of its misery before it becomes just another rag one finds in the racks along the checkout lines at grocery stores.

Dowd has made a career out of inadvertently drawing into clear focus what most Americans have known all along anyway--liberals are dangerous to America, lacking in any true adherence to the principles of the Founding Fathers and their legacy--the Constitution and the Bill of Rights--and so extremist that the mainstream citizens in the heartland fear for what would become of our nation if people of Dowd's ilk ever become the ruling majority in Washington.

A very impressive blog I have been reading of late, The Stiletto, has singled out Dowd for the latest of her less-than-stellar articles, in which she claims she was 'just a child' when she first encountered the Mormon Temple outside Washington on the Beltway.

As expected, the article is a set-up for a Romney-bash, using his religion to engage in a bit of liberal-approved religious bigotry. But of course, if the liberals do it, then it's not bigotry.

However, as the Stiletto points out, someone noticed a major discrepancy in Dowd's chronology of events in her life. The Mormon Temple to which she refers was completed in 1974. The problem is that Dowd was born in 1952, making her at least 21 years of age when she claims she used to pass by that edifice 'as a kid.'

In short, Dowd effectively shaved off 15 years from her age in this article.

So, the question becomes, how does a political columnist maintain any credibility when going after certain discrepancies on the part of Presidential candidates when the columnist herself is so willing to misrepresent her own life?

New York Times Comes Clean on 'Betray-Us' Flap

In a stunning admission of sorts, the New York Times has come clean about the now-infamous 'General Betray-Us' ad it ran in the paper from Moveon.org. Without outright admitting to mistakes, the newspaper's ombudsman stated the Times had 'apparently' violated its own internal rules and standards about refraining from running personal attack ads.

Further, the newspaper admitted that it may have 'crossed a line' when it gave Moveon a massive discount for running an ad that was obviously purely political in nature.

According to news sources Moveon.org paid the Times a mere $65,000 for a full-page ad. Under normal conditions such an ad would cost roughly $70,000 more.

Moveon.org immediately responded to the ombudsman report by stating it would sent to the Times the extra $70,000 for the ad, plus an additional lump sum for whatever reason Moveon thinks it necessary to try to amend its reputation.

Obvious troubling questions arise from the 'Betray-Us' flap regarding the mainstream media's complicity with leftwing political causes, including but not limited to an examination of possible violations of federal law. Campaign finance reform supposedly addressed issues such as unfair advantage. Yet the Times clearly provided such an advantage to Moveon while refraining from offering such sweet deals to conservative groups.

Another glaring question revolves around yet another example of media bias exhibited in this latest furor created by a mainstream media outlet that was caught red-handed in engaging in the very practice for which it denounces radio talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

For example, is the Times willing to provide, say, the NRA, a full-page ad for $65,000 on the very day that the U.S. Supreme Court hands down its decision on Heller vs. D.C., the case on handgun rights which the District appealed to the high court?

Such an ad would appear when pigs fly. Yet the Times exhibited no hesitation to run such a personal attack ad on the very day that a highly respected and trusted U.S. General gave his testimony before Congress on the progress of the surge in Iraq.

Over the past two decades the Times has disintegrated into such an obvious leftwing political rag that it bears no resemblance to its former glory as the definitive news source in America. No wonder Rupert Murdock wanted the Wall Street Journal along with Dow Jones. The Big Apple needs some balance in its news sources.

A further significant development on Sunday was Hillary Clinton's Sunday morning news talk show blitz to defend her vote in the Senate against condemning the Times ad. Her excuse that she wishes to 'debate the War in Iraq and not some newspaper ad' is stunning in its irrationality.

How does voting to condemn a personal attack on General Petraeus in the New York Times prevent Hillary Clinton in any way from debating the Iraq War?

The fact that the mainstream media failed to ask this question, allowing Hillary's statement to get by without as much as a flinch on the part of most reporters and talking heads speaks volumes about their bias.

Hillary's Democratic colleagues in the Senate, many of whom voted to condemn the ad yet who are highly critical of Bush's handling of the War, do not seem to think their vote takes them away from debating the subject of Iraq one bit.

So why is Hillary going out of her way to steer clear of any criticism of Moveon's ad or of the New York Times for running it? Simply put, she knows on which side her bread is buttered.

NYT Report--Relations in Congress Volatile

Washington, DC (TLS). Matt Drudge has the early scoop on Friday morning's New York Times headlines concerning contentious relations in Congress.

According to a special report published in the Times, not only is public approval of Congress running at an all-time low of just 16% but personal relationships are suffering between Congressional members themselves.

The special NYT report states that Senate Republicans in particular are quite unhappy with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV. Arlen Specter in particular has complained that Reid is increasingly rude and nearly impossible to deal with.

Reid interrupted Senator Specter repeatedly during a Senate session on Thursday.

Many Senators in both Parties admit that rarely in recent history has there been such a volatile climate within the U.S. Senate.

The Liberty Sphere is not surprised at all. Look at who is in control for the explanation.

NYT Slams Its Own Reporters for Hillary Expose!

New York, NY (TLS). The New York Times is slamming two of its own reporters, one of whom worked at The Times for over 25 years, for a new book that exposes the dark side of Hillary Clinton.

The book, 'Her Way,' details the calculating ruthlessness of Hillary Clinton spanning several decades. It is sure to become a classic source of information on the Clintons--information that has been carefully hidden from the public.

Yet the New York Times has turned ballistic in its attempt to 'kill' the book. Editorial writers and book reviews slated to be published in The Times will trash the book, in spite of the fact that it was written by two of its own.

This provides even more evidence that The Times is nothing more than a Leftist political rag that is a mere shell of its former glory as a source of serious news.
