Disarray

In less than a week after their narrow victory to control Congress, Democrats are in complete disarray. The following is a brief run-down of the most pronounced examples of leadership, or the lack thereof, thus far.

First, the extremist liberal fringe is treating last week's victory as a mandate for implementing liberal policies. Their reasoning is clear. Democrats owe a great debt to extremists who fund their campaigns. Environmentalists want stricter measures that would further hamper our quest to end our dependence on foreign oil and to further erode property owners' rights by the abuse of the Endangered Species Act. Gun control freaks want to ban handguns, even taking it to the next step of banning gun SHOWS. Nancy Pelosi has taken the unprecedented move of endorsing a nominee for House Majority Leader, and she chose one of the most extremist Democrats in the country, John Murtha, who not only takes extreme positions but exhibits an alarming lack of understanding concerning our Constitutional provisions of the balance of power. Hillary Clinton wants to resurrect the extremely unpopular 'Hillary-care' of 1993, which would essentially socialize medicine and rob citizens of freedom of choice in their healthcare. Henry Waxman wants to impeach the President. John Conyers wants to raise taxes.

Funny how NONE of these Democrats ever stated during the campaign that this was their stance on the issues. They carefully hid their true stripes until after the campaign. Now, without having to face the ire of the voters, they are unleashing a massive expansion of government programs that will cost billions that the country can ill afford to take on. Our individual liberties are at stake as well.

However, the disarray of the Democrats became abundantly apparent yesterday. Former General and Democrat Presidential candidate Wesley Clark stated on FOX News that no Democrat had called for tax increases or for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. When pressed about this assertion, he continued to insist that his contention was the truth and that Democrats were united behind a moderate, pragmatic agenda.

Minutes later, there was John Conyers on video for all to see stating that he would vote to repeal the Bush tax cuts and take measures to 'enhance revenues' i.e., raise taxes. The report showed that he had been saying these things all along. Again, there was John Murtha on video stating forthrightly that he would support an immediate withdrawal from Iraq that would take six to eight months to complete.

In addition, there was Chuck Schumer claiming there would be no impeachment proceedings against President Bush. Moments later there was Henry Waxman speaking about that very possibility, with Carl Levin chiming in agreement.

To top it all off, Nancy Pelosi wants Murtha, whom the government watchdog group CREW describes as one of the most corrupt members of Congress, while Charles Rangel announced today he is supporting Murtha's 'moderate opponent.'

All of this comes just seven days after Pelosi declared that the Democrat were 'prepared to lead.'

Sure. If disarray is mark of leadership, this gang would win the prize. They don't even know what they stand for as a group. But this is no surprise. Their campaign was a negative one, focusing on the War in Iraq alone. No wonder we are now being treated to the nightmare of their real agenda.

Moderates like Wesley Clark are merely whistling in the dark if they think this gang of extremists in the Democrat leadership are suddenly going to stop being extremists simply because they won an election. To the contrary, they are clearly going to use the vote as some sort of authority to take the country down a course that has been cut and paved by extremists.
