In South Carolina today both the Republican and the Democratic Parties held their primaries to choose candidates for state and local offices. The process resulted in confusion, anger and chaos for hundreds of voters.
On May 2 the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that many of the challengers running against incumbents in both Parties were ineligible due to a technicality. At least 200 candidates were thrown off the ballot.
But the court's decision came too late to get some of the candidates removed. Thus, their names remained on the ballot. This meant that if a citizen cast a vote for such a candidate, their vote did not count.

The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Monday, June 11, 2012
All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.
David Codrea blasts CBS News for claiming credit for breaking the Fast and Furious story in its announcement today that the House will vote on a contempt citation against Holder. Unfortunately, this has been standard fare with the MSM and even the NRA, which also claimed the credit. This is unconscionable, given that David and Mike Vanderboegh, as everyone here knows, were the first to break the story.
Alphecca reports that carrying an unloaded gun packed in a locked case inside of a suitcase to a NYC airport is all it takes to get you arrested.
Around O-Town notes that it appears that Holder is implicated in a variety of crimes, not just Gunwalker.
WRSA wants to know where the heck is the outrage over the spy drones flying all over America.
Way Up North shares a photo that shows us what dangerous Alaska street gangs are like. Mean dudes, those. Worse than Hell's Angels.
Tam says that Romney is not making enough political hay out of Obama's statement that the private sector is doing fine. She says Obama ought to be whacked over the head with it until it splinters due to its outrageous falsehood.
Brigid provides a report on her adventures at the gun and the home range.
Days of our Trailers has some neat photos from 'take your daughter to the range day.'
John Jacob H says that every time he posts something, somebody gets their panties in a wad (or shorts in a bunch, whichever the case may be). Well heck, I get in trouble every single day with stuff I write. It comes with the territory. Glad to see he's not going to let it stop him!
Pamela Geller adds her characteristic searing commentary to the discussion about the contempt vote against Eric Holder in the House.

Vote on Holder contempt citation only the beginning
The U.S. House of Representatives announced today that a date has been set for a vote on a contempt of Congress citation against Attorney General Eric Holder for his failure to turn over subpoenaed documents related to the Fast and Furious scandal.
The vote has been set for June 20, 2012.
The vote has been set for June 20, 2012.
House Speaker John Boehner stated,
The Justice Department is out of excuses. Either the Justice Department turns over the information requested, or Congress will have no choice but to move forward with holding the Attorney General in contempt for obstructing an ongoing investigation.

Conservatives targeted in deadly and costly free speech attack
A mounting controversy increasingly has attracted the attention of the national media involving a concerted attack on free speech by political extremists. The target is conservatives. The tactic is to endanger the lives, reputations, and financial stability of the victims.
Michelle Malkin catalogued the attacks in a detailed post at her blog on Saturday.
Stories of the attacks began to surface on social networking sites two weeks ago when there were reports of bogus SWAT team calls to the homes of conservatives across the country. Those reports gradually made their way into the local and national media.

New information confirms extensive Obama spying on Americans
New information published today by Politico confirms previously reported news stories indicating extensive spying on Americans by the Obama Administration and the President's reelection campaign.
The Obama campaign employs over 150 "techies" who do nothing but "peel back the layers" of the lives of citizens. According to Politico these techies know what citizens read, where they shop, what kind of work they do and who they count as friends. They even know "who your mother voted for in the last election."

Romney faces looming threat over Fast and Furious
In the past 18 months since the story first broke of the Fast and Furious scandal, it is clear that Democrats are the most culpable given that the underlying motive for the Fast and Furious operation was to create false gun statistics that could be used by the Obama Administration and its allies in Congress to call for major new gun control legislation.
Democrats proved that this was the end game when they immediately seized the opportunity during Congressional hearings to parrot false gun statistics and to blame Mexican violence on lax gun laws in the United States.
However, with each day that passes in the 15 months since the U.S. House of Representatives began investigating the scandal, Republicans increasingly share in the culpability.

Issa tells Holder 'you are not a good witness'
During a hearing today of the House Judiciary Committee, Attorney General Eric Holder claimed memory lapses when asked about the Fast and Furious scandal.
When U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, asked Holder if he or anyone else at the Justice Department had told the White House about "gunwalking" when it appeared that the activity contributed to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Holder replied, "I don't know."
Again, when Smith asked if Holder or anyone else at the Justice Department had informed the White House of the specific tactics used during the Operation Fast and Furious scheme, Holder replied, "I don't know."
The stonewalling angered U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who grilled Holder about his failure to turn over to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hundreds of documents that Issa says are pertinent to the investigation into Fast and Furious.

Solyndra failure may be only tip of iceberg
When the Obama Administration pumped $3.5 million in stimulus funds into Solyndra, the solar energy company that subsequently went out of business, the President touted the corporation as an example of his "green jobs" initiative.
Given that the company went under, Solyndra has become a symbol of failure rather than success for the Obama stimulus program that pumped multimillions into so-called 'green jobs.'
But new information made available today indicates that the Solyndra failure may be only the tip of the iceberg.

CBS News reports Issa has new Fast and Furious wiretap information
Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News, the only reporter in the mainstream media to consistently present the facts in the Fast and Furious scandal, is reporting today that U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has new wiretap information showing that the highest officials at the Justice Department were fully aware of the "gunwalking" project.
Fast and Furious was an illegal operation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) in which "straw purchasers" were used to buy American firearms and then walk them across the border into Mexico, placing them in the hands of drug cartels.

World markets in a 'global rout'
Markets across the world on Monday were said to be in a "global rout" as stocks tumbled in response to a dismal manufacturing report in the United States and an ongoing crisis in the euro zone.
The Tokyo stock exchange is reeling from its worst showing in decades, reaching a 28-year low. Asian markets took a hit as exchanges in Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Indonesia experienced significant declines.
In Europe, both Germany and France sustained losses. Britain's markets were closed today for a national holiday.
Musings after Midnight--Rumbling in the Seismic Plates Indicating Major Shifts in Economic Geography
In the field of geology the study of the earth's crust is called "plate tectonics," referring to the fact that the surface of the earth is made up of a series of "plates" that are constantly moving and even bumping into each other.
The point of impact where two plates collide is called a "fault line" which is prone to earthquakes as the plates move, grind, and side underneath and on top of each other.
This process is interwoven with volcanic eruptions. Such a phenomenon can be seen in what is known as "the ring of fire"--an area that encompasses the rim of the Pacific ocean that includes not only the west coast of the U.S., Canada, and Alaska, but Japan and other areas on the other side of the Pacific.
This ring is known for the frequency and severity of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and the tsunamis that often occur as a result.
Many in the field of economics have noticed rumbling in the tectonic plates of the financial world of late, so much so that several high profile economists and market analysts have sounded the alarm that this will be the week of major seismic shifts in the financial world.
The question is are we on the brink of an economic earthquake or volcano?
Market analyst Karl Denninger stated Sunday that investors should immediately pull out of the futures market. He further suggested that this is the summer of 2008 all over again. In other words, all of the signs are there which were also present in the days leading up to the Lehman Brothers collapse in 2008, which in turn led to a major economic crisis.
Denninger has repeatedly warned citizens not to be fooled by the rallies in the stock market that are inevitably wiped out by dramatic free-falls, such as we witnessed last week during which all of the gains the markets have made since January were wiped out in one week.
Similar rallies occurred after the stock market crash of 1929, luring citizens into a false sense of security. But within three short years the markets plunged even further, thrusting the nation into the throws of the Great Depression of the 1930s, which only got worse after FDR took office in 1932.
And to the contrary of the common myth that FDR's New Deal made things much better in the 30s, the record shows that the nation stagnated in the grip of the Depression during the entirety of the 1930s. Only with WWII in the early 40s did the nation begin to dig out from the economic abyss.
All of this is to say we have been down this road before. The collapse of 1929 appeared for a while to abate and then stabilize, only to find that there were extreme ups and downs in the market which eventually culminated in a permanent crash that plunged the nation into an unemployment rate of over 20%.
And even after Roosevelt took office in 1932, unemployment continued to rise.
When Obama took office, he was quick to proclaim that the nation was "in recovery" by 2010. Many of us have screamed bloody murder that such a proclamation is a lie, a blatant untruth that has no basis in the real facts.
Unemployment numbers are manipulated by government in that the manner in which joblessness is calculated has changed significantly since the 1930s. People who drop out of the workforce in despair or who take part-time jobs but need full-time jobs are no longer counted in the figures as they once were.
Thus, the current figure of 8.2% unemployment is laughable. A more realistic figure is 18% current unemployment--a rate that has not been seen in America since the Great Depression.
These figures have led many honest economists and financial observers to conclude that we are not in a recovery and never have been despite the assurances of the Obama Administration and the mainstream media.
The latest economic figures look bad, very bad, according to those who are realistic and who do not engage in spin. And things are set to get much worse.
Such a dire scenario is due to two precipitating factors. First, the Administration has done absolutely nothing to address the unsustainable debt load that can only be corrected by a dramatic cut in federal spending. Second, the Eurozone is on the brink of collapse this week.
Despite what Germany says, the major banks in Spain, the UK, Italy, and others are bracing for the impact of the disintegration of the Euro, which will have the domino effect of unraveling the European Union. And with such an unraveling will come the destabilization of American banks.
An article on Sunday in one of the UK's largest newspapers stated that this is the week that Europe will be forced to face the ugly truth it has been putting off for years. It is fresh out of money, its debt prevents any more spending on social programs and bailouts, and at this point there is basically nothing that can be done to stop a complete collapse. That train has already left the station.
Investors in America would be wise to brace for impact. This means to get out of the futures markets immediately, TODAY. It means finding ways to protect your investments from devaluation. It may mean forsaking banks altogether for some.
Many are convinced that to rely on plastic is a prescription for personal financial ruin, and they encourage the use of cash in addition to purchasing gold coins that you keep in your possession.
None of these ideas are meant to be taken as financial advice. I am not an economist or a financial adviser. I am merely reporting what I hear from some within the financial community. But you must do your own research and then chart a course of action that YOU feel good about.
As I write this already the Asian markets have opened to losses. The Australian dollar is down. The futures markets are down. In fact, this is shaping up to be a stormy day for the financial markets across the board.
Could this be a bell-weather for things to come?
The scuttlebutt in Europe is that a major bank has been on the brink of a Lehman Brothers style disintegration for several weeks, and when it goes Europe will be plunged into the same state America faced in 2008. Is this the week that this bank goes under?
A lot of fear and uncertainty exist out there, and fear and uncertainty invariably lead to bad news for the markets. I don't see how things can possibly improve given that nobody anywhere thus far has been really serious about reining in runaway government spending in order to address the mountain of debt that buries the U.S. and Europe.
This can only mean one thing--we are in for a very bumpy ride this summer, and this time Barack Obama will find it difficult if not impossible to escape the blame.
After nearly four years in office, this is NOT George W. Bush's economy but Barack Obama's.

Pressure builds for Romney to take lead on Fast and Furious
After a series of delays in Congress due to a clash between Republicans and the GOP leadership, pressure is building for the Party's presumptive nominee Mitt Romney to take the lead on the investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal.
Romney is now in a position to apply the pressure on the Republican leadership, which has apparently balked on moving forward with a contempt citation against Attorney General Eric Holder for his failure to provide subpoenaed Justice Department documents to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Sixteen Republicans on the committee have voiced their commitment to support a move to cite Holder for contempt of Congress...

Democratic strategist says economy is 'slipping away'
At a time when one would expect a dramatic turnaround in unemployment numbers, particularly given that the Obama Administration has claimed for nearly two years that the United States is in a "recovery," the figures released today by the government show the opposite.
Unemployment went up and the stock market had its worst month of May since 2010, which led one veteran Democratic strategist to conclude that "the economy is slipping away."

House Republicans release secret ObamaCare documents
In the summer of 2009 the Obama Administration was heavily steeped in a dramatic push to get its healthcare reform bill passed by Congress, but the negotiations had become bogged down by various delays.
The way around the bottleneck, in the view of the Administration, was to make secret deals with various entities in order to secure their support in the fight.
Those secret deals are now being made public by House Republicans with the release of scores of documents and emails from 2009, according to a report today at Fox News.

Letterman says Republicans 'easier to make fun of'
Although CBS Late Show host David Letterman has never been selective in his choices for who to lampoon, those who have watched the veteran comedian over the years can make a good case for suggesting that Republicans are the target of his ridicule more often than Democrats.
Observers now have even more fodder with which to peg Letterman as a partisan Republican basher. The TV host has admitted that he believes Republicans are "easier to make fun of."

Standing By asks, "What is meaningful work?"
John Jacob H did me a big favor, although it was not intended for me in particular. He posted one of Reagan's most memorable speeches, "The Boys of Pointe du Hoc," which he delivered on June 6, 1984 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of D-Day, when American troops stormed the beaches of Normandy to help the British defeat the Nazis. If this speech doesn't bring a tear to your eye, my friend, there is something terribly wrong with you!

Obama 'truth teams' intensify attack tracking
After sending its original "attack watch" team under the radar earlier this year, the Obama reelection campaign has intensified its tracking of attacks aimed at the President, according to a report today at The Blaze.
Conservatives are calling the new initiative "Attack Watch 2.0."
The original attack watch was part of Obama's so called "truth teams" aimed at monitoring social networking sites for "smears" of the President which could then be refuted by the campaign.

Speculation inside the beltway focuses on Hillary Clinton
Although she has stated that she intends to leave politics at the end of Obama's first term, Hillary Clinton is the focus of much speculation on the part of pundits inside the beltway regarding the 2012 presidential election.
Sensing that Obama is increasingly vulnerable, many top Democrats dream of a scenario where Hillary is placed on the ticket, either as the presidential nominee or the vice presidential running mate.
In the first instance the scenario would mean an announcement by Obama, like Lyndon Johnson in 1968, that he is withdrawing from his re-election bid. The second instance would mean that Vice President Joe Biden either would withdraw from the ticket or be replaced in a surprise decision by Obama.

New Mexico Senate race an example of Republican rift
While it is much too early to describe the Republican Party as a divided party, the race in New Mexico for the GOP nomination for an open U.S. Senate seat is an example of a rift between the leadership establishment and conservatives.
Career politician Heather Wilson, who spent 10 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by veteran Democrat Jeff Bingaman.
Wilson is the favorite of the Republican leadership establishment. But conservatives are opposing her for a myriad of reasons.

An article published by The Hill on Tuesday indicates that U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., might not have the votes to pursue contempt charges against Attorney General Eric Holder.
Issa chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that has been investigating the role of Holder and the Justice Department in the Fast and Furious scandal that has rocked the Obama Administration.
Holder has been under fire ever since he refused to cooperate with the Issa committee. Hundreds of subpoenaed documents have been withheld from the committee by Holder, documents that Issa says are necessary to conduct the investigation.

Troubled Obama campaign turns to Rahm Emanuel
After a series of blunders and missteps that have apparently resulted in a spike in the polls for Mitt Romney, a troubled Obama campaign has turned to an old friend and fierce political ally, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Emanuel is the former chief of staff for the Obama White House.
The Obama campaign has been plagued with a series of mistakes that have given some political observers fodder with which to portray the campaign as amateurish, disjointed, and inept.

Market analyst says US in an economic 'war'
A major market analyst said Sunday that the United States is engaged in an economic "war" as a consequence of a deadly collusion between politicians and large corporations that have defrauded the public for the past 30 years.
The danger that is inherent in such a war, he says, lies in the fact that not only has the U.S. economy been falsely inflated by the fraud but so has Europe and most of the advanced nations of the world.
Analyst Karl Denninger, who is the brain child behind the Internet site The Market Ticker, states that the economy has been rigged by major power brokers in politics and business who wished to take the competition out of the markets. The motivation for the move was to insure that everyone would win and that no one would lose, or at least not enough to ruin them.
However, this is not the way capitalism works. Competition is the centerpiece of the capitalistic system of economics, meaning that one must risk losing in order to position himself to win. If someone else can offer the same goods and services at a lower price and with a higher quality, then it is that person who wins. The others either lose or find a way to cut costs and improve quality so that they can remain competitive.

Senator says he wants to prevent government from seizing guitars at border
U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., stated after a meeting Friday with music industry and wood import officials that he wants to prevent the government from seizing guitars made with banned wood when musicians travel to other countries to perform.
Artists are currently leaving their best guitars at home when they travel, unless they take paperwork with them that proves their instruments were not made with banned wood -- a provision of an amendment to the century-old Lacey Act which prevents the sale of feathers from rare birds.
Alexander, along with U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., co-sponsored an amendment in 2008 to the Lacey Act that would add the wood from certain forests around the world to the list of banned items.
But the manner in which the Obama Administration is interpreting the amended law is raising eyebrows and creating havoc for one guitar maker, Gibson Guitars of Nashville, Tenn.

Growing jihadist presence in Mexico causes alarm
In 2009 a Muslim cleric who is associated with extremist elements within Islam stated that given the porous nature of the southern border of the United States, a jihadist could easily smuggle a briefcase full of anthrax into the country that would kill at least 330,000 Americans in one hour.
The cleric, Abdullah al-Nafisi, is a Kuwaiti dissident who made a recruitment video used by al Qaida to motivate young Muslims to become involved in the jihad being waged in Mexico against the United States.
According to a report in Front Page Magazine on Tuesday, al-Nafisi may have succeeded. One of the greatest threats to the United States currently, which is being swept under the rug by the Obama Administration and the mainstream media, is the growing jihadist presence in Mexico, particularly near the southern border.

Armed environmental police shut down ice cream stand
Armed environmental police officers shut down a popular long-running ice cream stand in Massachusetts over the weekend and stood guard to make sure potential customers were turned away.
The officers claimed that the operator had failed to secure construction permits to make improvements to the stand.
But operator Mark Duffy, who has leased the property from the state for 26 years, says that he has never been required to get permits to make improvements. Those improvements, he said, are ongoing and occur every day as part of his contract with the state...

Spike in black on white crime covered up by media
Those who depend solely on the mainstream media for their news might be surprised to know that there has been a major spike in racial crime in America this year.
Media observers say that when it comes to news reports on the subject, citizens are rarely informed of the seriousness of the racial tension, except when it is a certain type of racial tension.
When whites attack blacks the media is quick to report it. But according to national columnist Thomas Sowell, when blacks attack whites, somehow those particular news stories never see the light of day.

Mike Vanderboegh points to the weak-kneed leadership of the House GOP in following through on threats to hold Eric Holder in contempt.
The War on Guns has an announcement, and that leads me to say a BIG "Happy Birthday" goes to David Codrea, who turns the BIG 6-0 today!
WRSA notes that the suppression of dissent is coming to a federal district near you. Oh, wait, it is already here!
Market Guru Karl Denninger offers the correct solution to the JPMorgan Chase debacle.
Tam opines on the whole point of gun shows.
Around O-Town wonders if anyone has noticed that lawmakers are totally silent on the fact that the Chinese are taking over local bank branches.
Alphecca reports that Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin will sign an open carry law.
Days of our Trailers tells us that 'guns are green.' And he explains how. Spread the word!
Nicki comments on the Time Magazine cover showing a 6-year-old boy (well, he looks it) being breastfed by his Mother. It's a new trend, apparently, in this crazy world that is increasingly fit for 5-point restraints in an insane asylum.

Investigation reveals how Wall Street cronies evade the law
"Just pay a settlement, admit no guilt, and it's back to business as usual."
These are the words that introduce a major investigation, released Saturday, into how Wall Street cronies evade the law and continue with the same behavior that led to the financial meltdown of 2008.
Denise Simon of Stand Up America has published the results of an in-depth probe into Wall Street cronies who easily move from banking giants to government positions, and back again to the banks, all in the promotion of a massive Ponzi scheme that pads their own pockets while investors lose billions.
"Crony capitalism" is differentiated from capitalism itself in that the vast majority of the profits go to a select few, all of whom know each other well or are at least acquainted, while the opportunity to share in those profits is closed to outsiders.

Patriot group targets Bank of America
Bank of America, the nation's largest banking institution, is under fire from a patriot group for various infractions, including a corporate stance against the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, according to Justin Combs of Arctic Patriot.
Combs is one among several concerned citizens who are circulating a declaration that calls on Americans to close their accounts, sell their stock, and cease doing any business at all with Bank of America.
While Combs states that Bank of America is not the source of the problem in the banking industry, it is a big part of it due to its sheer size and its willingness to throw its weight behind politicians who work to undermine the protected rights of the people as delineated in the Constitution.

Major banker calls for breakup of largest banks in US
One of the nation's top bankers today called for the breakup of the largest banks in the United States, in response to yesterday's disclosure by the CEO of JPMorgan Chase that his bank had lost $2 billion dollars since April and may lose another billion in the next month.
The announcement sent shockwaves throughout the economy and the markets, driving stock prices downward.
Richard Fisher, president of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank, stated that the nation's top five banks need to be split up into smaller entities due to their inadequate risk management.

JPMorgan Chase losses send shock waves through economy
In an announcement that rocked the markets and sent shock waves through the economy late today, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase stated that the nation's largest bank had lost $2 billion dollars since April.
JPMorgan had been considered the most well managed bank of the major Wall Street firms that survived the financial meltdown of 2008.
However, today's announcement placed that designation in doubt as CEO Jamie Dimon admitted that the losses were due to "errors, sloppiness, and bad judgment." And CBS News reported this evening that market analysts have begun to question whether or not other large Wall Street banks were also in deep financial trouble, in spite of the fact that most received a massive bailout from taxpayers in 2009.
Mainstream America signals how it will vote in November
If several recent developments in the campaign of 2012 are any indication, the average voter is beginning to make up his mind concerning the presidential election in the fall.
Mainstream America is sending signals concerning how it will vote in November.
North Carolina went solidly for Obama in 2008. But on Tuesday the state voted by an overwhelming margin, 61% of the vote, to ban gay marriage. On the heels of that vote Obama stated yesterday that he has had a change of heart and now supports gay marriage.
In spite of polls showing that a little more than half of Americans say they support gay marriage, 41 states have laws that ban it. In recent years those laws have been strengthened by additional amendments in 31 states. Perhaps the polls are misleading.

Soros to pump millions into local grass-roots organizations
Billionaire financier George Soros is known for bankrolling the campaigns of high profile Democrats such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. But according to a report published by the New York Times on Monday, Soros intends to expand his strategy in order to pump millions of dollars into local grass-roots organizations.
Prior to the rise of Barack Obama to national prominence, Soros had already sent multimillions into the campaign coffers of Hillary Clinton. And when he financed the founding of John Podesta's Center for American Progress, he stated that the organization would be a think tank dedicated to the advancement of Hillary Clinton's political agenda.
David Horowitz at Discover the Networks stated unequivocally that the Center is Hillary Clinton's think tank and that it is Hillary and not Podesta who ultimately runs the organization.

The Smallest Minority shares a video of John Wayne opining about liberals. Now, say what you want about Wayne's acting ability (he was not one of the best, but he was the best at playing the character he developed for the screen--himself!), but I loved all of his movies and would much rather watch him today than most of the young Commies that inhabit Hollywood in the modern era. Wayne was bigger than the roles he played. He simply dominated the screen. No, he OWNED the screen!

New research exposes deep infiltration of U.S. government by Islamists
In a new eye opening document published today, a research analyst for Stand Up America exposes deep infiltration of the U.S. government by Islamists whose agenda is to gradually till the ground until America is more Shariah friendly.
The term "Islamist" is to be differentiated from "Muslim." While all Islamists are Muslims, not all Muslims are Islamists. Islamists encompass a variety of extremist groups that utilize a variety of methods and strategies to impose a radical interpretation of Islam on various populations throughout the world, including the United States.
One of the extremist groups in question is the Muslim Brotherhood, according to a researcher who goes by the name of Spongedocks, who works for retired Major Gen. Paul Vallely. Vallely founded Stand Up America after serving as Senior Military Analyst for Fox News for several years.
Musings After Midnight: France, the U.S., and the Definition of Insanity
Good evening, my friends. Or should I say, good morning! Here in the wee morning hours, well after midnight, we gather for these chats about the issues of the day.
Of course, the "chats" are rather one sided since you, the reader, are not allowed to engage in the conversation while it is being written. However, I hope you feel that you are, in fact, part of the conversation given the intimate nature of this discourse, the format of which is intentionally personal. I want you to feel that you are part of the give and take, mainly in that I am addressing myself directly to you in a manner that is personally and intimately candid, speaking directly from my heart and mind as the thoughts come. And this is not to mention that when I write these words I do so with the knowledge in mind that I am addressing specific issues with which I know you are grappling. I can hear in my mind your questions, your objections, your doubts, and even your validation of the points I make.
And then you are always welcome to have your say in the comment section. So you see, you are a part of this conversation each step of the way.
I wanted to address an issue that I know has been on the minds of many of you, and it is one that I have found myself mulling over with great concern, and that is the French elections this past Sunday. President Sarkozy lost his reelection bid to a Socialist, mainly as an expression of deep concern on the part of the French electorate that the country faces the distinct likelihood of complete economic collapse.
Voters in most free nations routinely blame the top elected official for the economic status of the country, good or bad, whether such blame is deserved or not. In Sarkozy's case, it is a fate that was not deserved because he was, in fact, attempting to address a systemic problem that has swept through all of Europe--unbridled government spending, an unsustainable debt, and the lack of adequate revenue from which to draw in order to prop up the ever growing government nanny state.
Sarkozy implemented what any rational thinking person would do in such a circumstance. He implemented austerity measures designed to reign in the spending, roll back the expanse and extent of the nanny state, and attempt to insure that government spends no more than it takes in, just like any human being is forced to do when dealing with their own household.
But such policies do not come without pain. Those addicted to government programs will experience withdrawal when the money train is thwarted, and like all addicts they will kick and scream until the regular fixes are flowing freely again.
The French, thus, threw a tantrum over their predicament and placed someone in office who has assured them that their gravy train will be restored.
Of course, the new President has no concept of how these measures will be paid for. His views are abhorred by his EU counterparts who at the very least have recognized the source of the problem and have sought to reign in the out of the control spending that has characterized European nations for decades.
Turning a deaf ear to every sign and symptom of the disease that afflicts his nation and others in the EU, the new President has promised to kick up the government spending into high gear once again.
But with what? And how?
It is no secret that France and most of the nations of the EU are flat out of money. So how is this brave new world of socialist Utopia going to be financed.
Rational people must always remember that a Socialist must never be inconvenienced with cold hard fact. They don't know what to do with it and appear as if they are catapulted into a state of panic--and denial--when faced with it.
The truth is the man has no idea about what to do, except to continue to run up deficits and debt, which is the core of the problem that has led Europe to the brink of economic annihilation.
And this brings us to the definition of insanity.
When I was working in healthcare as a psychiatric and addictions chaplain, I was introduced to the definition of insanity as taught by those who treat persons who find themselves held in the death grip of dependency on dangerous substances. And it is the best definition of the word I have ever come across.
Insanity is doing the very same thing over and over, and expecting a different result each time.
Ever since the worldwide depression of the 1930s, Europe has done the very same thing over and over. It's manner of dealing with human problems and suffering is to let government handle it. Thus, you increase spending, and then you increase taxes to pay for it.
Spend and tax, tax and spend.
And surprisingly, a nation can exist for many years this way. But the key is that there must be an adequate tax base to pay for the government social programs. That is, enough citizens must make enough money and prosper enough so that government can extract enough tax revenue from them to pay for the expansion of goods and services to the populace.
But this constant upward spiral of taxation has a tipping point. Former Reagan economist Arthur Laffer identified this tipping point in his pinpoint precise observation of the problem that many have coined as 'the Laffer curve.'
The crux of Laffer's understanding of economics is that there is direct correlation between available taxable income and the rate of taxation that government imposes on its citizens. The higher the rate of taxation, after the tipping point, the less available income the citizens have at their disposal, which inevitably leads to a decrease in tax revenues.
Thus, the higher the government places the tax rate the less revenue the government receives from the taxpayers, although to some the concept seems to defy logic.
Reagan proved that Laffer was correct during the early 1980s when tax rates were dramatically lowered for all citizens across the board. Interestingly, in spite of lower tax rates, overall government revenues went up.
Europe proved the truth of the Laffer curve long ago. Thus, each time governments raise the tax rates on citizens to pay for an expansion of social programs, the actual net revenue that government receives decreases. This only exacerbates the problem of deficit spending and debt.
The result is a downward spiral leading to recession, then depression, and then ultimate economic collapse.
France has already seen the deadly effects of this policy. But, as is the case with all addicts, the insanity has become systemic. The nation continues to do what it has always done, but it expects a different result this time. Thus, the new Socialist President will do nothing but lead the nation further into the abyss.
Barack Obama and the Democrats who have been in charge of Congress during much of the past 6 years are the identical image of European politicians such as the new French President. Reckless taxing and spending led to the problem. But their proposals for fixing the problem is MORE reckless taxing and spending. Insanity, perhaps?
But don't blame the politicians entirely. The citizens who keep sending these people back to Congress year after year are also insane. They are doing the same thing they've always done while expecting a different result each time.
Have you ever stopped long enough to actually read and consider the massive tax increases Americans are set to face next year?
When ObamaCare was approved in 2009 by a House and Senate that were both under the control of Democrats, they decided that raising the revenue for the program would be deferred until after the 2012 elections.
Thus, in 2013, taxpayers are going to be hit with massive, drastic increases in taxes that will boggle the mind, create untold hardship, and cripple an economy that is already teetering on the edge of collapse. But even that will not be enough to pay for the program which is estimated to cost over 2 trillion dollars when it is all said and done.
Obama and the Democrats hope that they will be able to gain enough seats in Congress, maybe even retake control of the House, to insure that the Bush tax cuts will be allowed to expire. So, with the expiration of those tax cuts, plus the tax increases that are inherent in the ObamaCare program, the average middle class family in America is going to be hit with a freight train of at least 2000 to 2500 bucks PER YEAR in tax increases.
Are you able to afford that in this depressed economy?
And herein is the dirty little secret that is hidden in the Laffer curve. When government places such a heavy tax burden on the middle class, more and more are forced into bankruptcy, foreclosure, and other financial problems that can greatly hamper their ability to make an adequate living. In short, people go under. And when people go under they no longer have the income that the government can tax. Tax revenues plummet in spite of the tax and spending increases, and this leads to dramatic spikes in deficits and debt.
And so, my fellow Americans, unless we get rid of this insane crowd that has invaded our government in Washington, we are facing a trainwreck in 2013.
Which would be better in your opinion? Bite the bullet and cut spending and taxes dramatically so that in a few years we can get America back on a sound financial footing again, even though it may mean short term pain and self-denial? Or continue spending and taxing ourselves into oblivion so we can pay for massive social programs, although that will mean a downward spiral into an economic abyss so severe that not only will there be massive untold suffering on the part of this generation but many generations to come, including that of your grandchildren and great grandchildren?
I suppose your answer depends on whether or not you are insane...
Of course, the "chats" are rather one sided since you, the reader, are not allowed to engage in the conversation while it is being written. However, I hope you feel that you are, in fact, part of the conversation given the intimate nature of this discourse, the format of which is intentionally personal.

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.
David Codrea notes that some RINOS up in Indiana are trying to get the quintessential RINO, Dick Luger, reelected. Most Republicans I talk to want him gone. Of course, most of my contacts are conservatives.

Kurt Hofmann says that a certain anti-gun group maintains that Fast and Furious guns are not being used for violence in any way whatsoever--not here and not in Mexico. ROFL!!

Tam makes an important point on why it is of vital necessity to vote in primaries and other elections, regardless of whether or not it has anything to do with the presidential vote.

Republican elites attempt to rewrite history in Palin bash
A report published today at Breitbart indicates that Republican elitists of the D.C. establishment are trying to rewrite history in a recent coordinated effort at Sarah Palin bashing, apparently in an attempt to save their own political reputations in the aftermath of a poorly run campaign in 2008.
The numerous miscues of John McCain's handlers still haunt the Republican Party establishment to this very day.
During the 2008 presidential campaign the Republican nominee found it nearly impossible to gain any traction in his attempt to catch up to Barack Obama in the polls.
McCain ran behind Obama during the entirety of the campaign, except for one brief period that lasted only a few weeks just after he chose former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.
