UNC Cancels Christmas--Another Example of NC's Shame

Here at The Liberty Sphere we have often lamented the ever-increasing creeping crawl of liberalism-socialism in the state of North Carolina, which came to full fruition during the 2008 Presidential election.

Thumbing its nose at its great heritage and conservative values, the state was one of the few southern states to go into the Barack Obama column.

And now, the University of North Carolina decides to cancel Christmas.

What was once a long tradition at the various campuses of the massive UNC system, the main campus being at Chapel Hill, has given way to the scourge of multiculturalism, anti-Christian bias, and liberal elitist snobbery.

Until this year, Christmas trees could be seen in the library buildings on its main campus. This year, however, the University decided to ban the trees.

The reason? Complaints by some library staffers who were offended that the library would 'favor one religion over another.'

The thing that is ironic about the matter, however, is that the Christmas tree is not a uniquely Christian symbol in any fashion. Medieval Christians took what had been a pagan symbol and 'Christianized it,' making it a centerpiece for Christmas holiday celebrations.

For this reason many who espouse no religion at all will display a Christmas tree during the season.

It would be very interesting to discover whether or not the University makes special accommodations for Muslim students in ways they will not accommodate Christians or any other religion, as other universities have done.

If they do, I would not be a bit surprised.

The North Carolina Betrayal

Word has been received late Thursday that the state of North Carolina has gone for Barack Obama.

North Carolina has thus betrayed its heritage, its principles, its commitment to rugged individualism as portrayed by our forebears, and its commitment to the Constitution of the United States.

Never before I have been so ashamed of my familial connections with the state.

This is clearly not the North Carolina I remember, even as recently as the 1990s.

And make no mistake about it, when the country begins its long, dark night of oppression under a regime controlled by the forces of anti-freedom, the suffering that ensues will be the direct result of states like North Carolina.

I would have expected Massachusetts or San Francisco to completely take leave of its senses when it comes to politics. But not North Carolina.

Were it not for the majestic beauty of the mountains, I would never darken the door of the state anymore. Apparently a bunch of leftwing kooks moving in from other areas have taken control of the state.

It is abundantly obvious the the good, decent folk in conservative areas such as Bryson City have been outnumbered by the likes of Duke University types who came to the defense of a liar who falsely accused 3 students of rape and defended the illegal actions of a corrupt District Attorney in Durham.

But, as I tell everyone else who voted for Barack Obama, you made your bed and you WILL lay in it eventually. I just hate the rest of us have to pay for your mistakes along with you.
