The North Carolina Betrayal

Word has been received late Thursday that the state of North Carolina has gone for Barack Obama.

North Carolina has thus betrayed its heritage, its principles, its commitment to rugged individualism as portrayed by our forebears, and its commitment to the Constitution of the United States.

Never before I have been so ashamed of my familial connections with the state.

This is clearly not the North Carolina I remember, even as recently as the 1990s.

And make no mistake about it, when the country begins its long, dark night of oppression under a regime controlled by the forces of anti-freedom, the suffering that ensues will be the direct result of states like North Carolina.

I would have expected Massachusetts or San Francisco to completely take leave of its senses when it comes to politics. But not North Carolina.

Were it not for the majestic beauty of the mountains, I would never darken the door of the state anymore. Apparently a bunch of leftwing kooks moving in from other areas have taken control of the state.

It is abundantly obvious the the good, decent folk in conservative areas such as Bryson City have been outnumbered by the likes of Duke University types who came to the defense of a liar who falsely accused 3 students of rape and defended the illegal actions of a corrupt District Attorney in Durham.

But, as I tell everyone else who voted for Barack Obama, you made your bed and you WILL lay in it eventually. I just hate the rest of us have to pay for your mistakes along with you.

No, there's more to it than a bunch of leftists voting for the Marxist.

I worked the election in a position that took me to a dozen or so precincts and I got to listen to a lot of people talking.

All those newly minted young voters were voting for the black guy in order to make history. Right or wrong, they see the choice of president as having very little difference one way or the other. Especially when it was a choice between a liberal and a not-all-that conservative.

LOTS of white folks voted for the black guy because they wanted to show the world and themselves that we/they have gotten over the whole racist thing as evidenced by our electing a black guy.

They also wanted to make history and they wanted to ease their guilty conscience at the same time.

Even if Obama does a good job, I think the fact that we can now say we had a black president will make it harder for another black person to get elected to that office. He won't have the millions of people voting for him just because he's black. As proof, look for the black turnout to drop again significantly in the midterm election.

As a North Carolina native (Swain County) who left the state and chose not to return, I did so because North Carolina became far too socialist for my liking. Before I left in 1980, North Carolina had moved far to the left under Jim Hunt, and only continued that course under successive administrations. The state requires a permit to own a handgun, micromanages private property, and is invasive in the private matters of individuals.

In short, it is utterly corrupt and socialist. I hear about it all the time from my family. Arkansas may be a banana republic ("Ralph cares" of Madison County, etc.) but at least we are pretty much left alone on our property and gun rights are largely intact.

The only sad part is that if it weren't for Mississippi, we would be dead last in just about everything.

BTW, voting for a guy just because he is black, or just to "prove" you're not racist, is a VERY SORRY REASON for casting your vote that way.
