Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:
Codrea's War on Guns has more on the Obama plan to institute the 'assault' weapons ban and other gun control measures. 'And So It Begins.'
Codrea's Gun Rights Examiner column offers more info on this ominous news.
Armed and Safe posts a message concerning the Obama gun ban--'the gloves come off.'
Hofmann's St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner: 'The Idiocy of Smart Guns.'
The Wandering Minstrel looks backward to Bill Clinton in order to provide perspective on the current anti-gun mentality of the Obama administration.
Conservative Libertarian Outpost says it's time to arm up as fast as we can!
Mike McCarville reports on the Congressional Gun Rights group to be headed by U.S. Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma.
Sebastian doesn't think Obama has the votes in Congress to pass a new assault weapons ban, and he details his reasoning along with a prediction of how members of Congress would vote on the issue.
Michelle Malkin gives us an update on Tea Party U.S.A., the growing taxpayer protest movement against Barack Obama.
Say Uncle doesn't think GOP Governor Bobby Jindal has a chance on the national stage because of some of his views, such as abortion. If that's the case, the country is in much worse shape than I imagined.
Speaking of Gov. Jindal, most of those 'responses to the President's address' things on TV are not that good. It may be due to the type of venue. But as The Rustmeister reports, Bobby usually hits it out of the ballpark in live speeches before audiences. He provides a video as an example.
Nicki has a MUST-read today on gun control. Don't pass this one up!
Ride Fast and Shoot Straight makes an excellent point in 'The Gun Way.'
JR reports that the growing 'states rights' movement has come to the Texas legislature.
Free in Idaho points to a 22-year-old who was smart enough to figure out for himself the real meaning of 'unalienable rights.' Read it all.
John Jacob H posts the scoop on an organization that may be yet another gun-rights 'Trojan Horse.'
Breda blogs on the upcoming Chicago Tea Party on Friday, as part of the national taxpayer revolt against Obama called, 'Tea Party U.S.A.'
Dr. John Lott reports that even the Democrat-controlled Congressional Budget Office admits that huge government deficits will continue for a decade under the Obama plan. True. Obama admitted it Tuesday night. His stimulus bill doubled the deficit, and he promised to cut it in half, which will bring the deficit right back to where it was prior to the stimulus bill.
Walls of the City has the quote of the day. Good commentary follows.
Days of our Trailers points to reason vs. emotion when it comes to guns in church.
Notoriously Conservative provides excellent reading entitled, 'Indoctrinating our Kids with Global Warming Nonsense.'
And for the 'rolling-in-the-floor-laughing-hysterically' moment of the day, be sure to take a look at THIS over at Western Rifle Shooters Association. Be sure to 'insert your own caption.'
It seems to me that 'insert' may be the key word here.
Alphecca confirms our warnings about Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. When it came right down to an important gun rights issue, she turned against us. Not surprising.

The Best Part of Obama's Speech...
...was Governor Bobby Jindal's response from the Republicans.
No clearer distinction could be made between big government Democrats and conservative Republicans than Jindal made last night.
Barack Obama's speech clearly defined his ideology. Spend trillions of taxpayer dollars and expand the role and scope of government, because the citizens simply can't be trusted with their own money. This is pure socialism.
Bobby Jindal, by contrast, stated that individual Americans can do anything we set our minds to do...if only government gets out of the way.
This is precisely the philosophy set forth by President Ronald Reagan in his 1981 Inaugural Address.
Liberals, Democrats, and President Obama believe that only the federal government can be trusted to 'fix' things. Conservatives, Republicans, and Bobby Jindal believe that the individual citizens can do far more than they ever conceived if they put their minds to it.
Who do YOU trust? The federal government? Or the people?

I Make No Apologies
It seems I have taken some heat in certain circles of the blogosphere for saying that 'Barack Obama will never be my President.'
I make absolutely no apology for saying it, and I still adhere to that sentiment as much if not more today than before the election.
As far as I'm concerned, there can be no compromise with Socialists. That is my political line in the sand.
Socialists-Marxists-Communists-Fascists-Nazis are all part and parcel of the totalitarian movement that has witnessed not only the greatest governmental failures in the world but the the most heinous murders of innocent dissenting citizens in the history of mankind.
And this is why I maintain that the 'choice' of Barack Obama for President is illegitimate. There is absolutely no way that anyone with such blatant disdain and disregard for the Constitution could ever be a legitimate President, no matter what the electorate says.
As I was watching local television news earlier, a woman was interviewed who said it was time for all sides to 'put aside their differences and come together in unity for change.'
Unify behind WHAT? Change WHAT, exactly?
An economic program that will probably push the country over the precipice into another Great Depression? Nope!
A policy toward the War in Iraq that ignores the grave dangers Islamic terrorists in the region pose to the West? Nope!
An utter disdain for the U.S. Constitution that maintains that because it does not 'redistribute wealth' by robbing from the haves to give to the have-nots, it is thus flawed? Nope!
A tax program that uses the IRS as a welfare agency by giving 45 million Americans who pay no taxes at all a check from the government? Nope!
A healthcare proposal so drastic that it will overwhelm the system, forcing healthcare rationing on millions of our Senior adults so that 20 million illegal aliens can get medical care? Nope!
A disregard for human life that is so blatant that it withholds medical care from infants that survive botched abortion attempts by starving them to death in dark closets? HELL, no!
So tell me, what, exactly, can we 'unify' behind?
As far as I can tell there is nothing in the Obama plan that can be supported by ANY thinking, principled and ethical American citizen.
The woman in the television interview, by the way, stated that she didn't think people who voted for McCain would 'put their differences aside in order to strive for unity behind Obama.'
You bet your sweet patootie we won't, sister!
Count me as one of the loyal opposition from top to bottom. I will fight tooth and toenail the Obama-Democratic plan to ruin this country.
And frankly, if we had a better candidate at the top of the ticket, we would not be in this position on November 5.
Yes, I supported McCain, but reluctantly, as you will remember if you read this blog regularly. I felt that a vote for McCain gave us the best chance at keeping Obama out of the White House.
But that doesn't mean I was a big McCain supporter. My decision to endorse him and vote for him was purely tactical.
In fact, I have always been one of McCain's biggest critics. But, for better or for worse, I made my decision based upon the hope that Obama would lose.
We can only hope that in 2012 we get someone like Sarah Palin or Bobby Jindal, who will carry on in the great conservative tradition of Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley, Jr., and many more.
But until then, I am geared up and ready to fight the onslaught of massive government expansion and intrusion under Obama and the Democrats. And yes, I will fight McCain and other RINOS as well if they are intent on 'unifying' behind Obama.

OBAMA MAY ANNOUNCE RUNNING MATE TODAY
Rumors are swirling around Washington that today may be the day that Barack Obama announces his choice for a running mate.
One source claims that the Senator will make the announcement the first thing this morning.
Many believe that Delaware Senator Joe Biden is the odds-on favorite to run with Obama. Biden would be a good choice. He is strong in areas where Obama is weak, particularly in foreign policy.
But don't be fooled by Biden's 'good guy' image. He is a classic Democratic liberal who has made a practice of supporting everything conservatives, libertarians, and traditional Christians deplore.
Meanwhile, others believe that Obama will choose a wild card--someone who has not been publicly discussed as a potential running mate. My initial guess is that this option is probably more likely than Biden being chosen.
And then, Obama could potentially totally shake up the entire campaign in 2008 by choosing Hillary Clinton. The Party faithful would no doubt be wildly energized by this choice, but it would certainly bode ill for a potential Obama Presidency. And the candidate, and his wife, know it.
With the Democratic National Convention just around the corner, Obama has almost run out of time to make his announcement.
On the Republican side, John McCain is also running out of time. With the GOP Convention several weeks away, he has more breathing room than Obama, but time is of the essence.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindel, a rising star within the GOP, took himself out of the running on Monday by saying unequivocally that he has the job he wants and that he will not be McCain's choice.
Jindel has made the right decision. The experience being Governor will help him in the long run, and for someone with Jindel's personality, energy, and popularity, being a VP will certainly be beneath his level of gifts. Give him time, and this guy will be running for President in either 2012 or 2016.
This leaves McCain with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, former Governor Tom Ridge, Senator Joe Lieberman, and Florida Governor Charlie Crist among those on the candidate's short list.

McCain Conducts First Round of VP Interviews
GOP Presidential nominee John McCain has begun conducting running-mate interviews. Reporters on the campaign trail note that McCain will meet with 3 possible VP nominees over the Memorial Day weekend--Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
McCain staffers insist, however, that the Arizona Senator is not meeting with the three to interview them for the VP slot but that the meetings are 'purely social.'
All three have been mentioned in the Press as possible contenders for McCain's running mate.
Crist and Romney have obvious problems. Crist, for example, has irked some in the conservative GOP base. And conservatives simply do not trust Romney.
But Bobby Jindal could be considered a top choice and part of McCain's 'short list.' Louisiana's first-term Governor is already being touted as the next GOP 'star.' Jindal is never lacking in 'charisma,' and he knows how to rouse and energize the conservative base of the GOP with his unequivocal support for gun rights, immigration control, a strong national defense, low taxes, balanced budgets, and family values.
Thus, we can safely add Bobby Jindal to the McCain short list, along with Joseph Lieberman.
It is to be remembered that McCain's long-time allies and close friends in politics do not need to be 'interviewed.' Thus, the fact that some top contenders for the job of running mate are not being interviewed is no sign that they are not being considered.
Conversely, it is not to be assumed that McCain's final choice will be among those who will be interviewed.
