In a frantic effort to backtrack on its claims that the attacks on U.S. embassies in the Middle East were a "spontaneous" reaction to a film that insults the prophet Muhammad, the White House now admits that alternative media outlets were correct in their initial assessment that the attacks were not driven by the film but by anti-American terrorism.
White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters in his regular press briefing Wednesday that the attacks were more than likely connected to terrorism and planned well in advance.
