CBS bombshell: documents show ATF used Gunwalker to push for new gun control

From the beginning when ATF whistleblowers first reported that their agency had engaged in an illegal program to send guns across the border to Mexican drug cartels, these conscientious agents maintained that the reason for the scheme was so that the Obama Administration could point to 'Gunwalker' or 'Fast and Furious' guns as 'proof' that draconian new gun control laws were needed in the U.S.
In most mainstream media outlets, this rationale has been totally ignored. The New York Times, the Washington Post, Time Magazine, Newsweek, ABC News, NBC News, MSNBC, CNN, and NPR have in one accord described the operation as a 'botched sting operation' intended to catch Mexican drug criminals. Even Fox News and CBS News, the two mainstream networks that have fairly reported on Fast and Furious, have been reticent about describing the scheme as a ruse intentionally implemented for the single purpose of padding gun statistics in Mexico so that the Administration could call for gun bans and highly restrictive firearms laws.
From the CBS News website:However, with a new report filed this evening by CBS News' Sharyl Attkisson, for the first time a major mainstream outlet has dropped the key bombshell in the entire fiasco.

Gov't Already Routinely Detains Citizens Without Due Process

Over the weekend this article sounded the warning concerning a bill in Congress that would allow the U.S. military, on U.S. soil, to detain American citizens indefinitely and without due process of law. Various liberty watchdog groups cried foul as Senators such as Lindsey Graham and John McCain claimed that the term 'battlefield' should be expanded to include the homeland, since we are in a perpetual state of 'war' with Al Qaeda.
However, there is significant evidence that the government already routinely detains citizens without due process.
Take the case of Mike Anderson. In the Spring of this year Anderson was arrested with several members of an Alaska militia and charged with plotting to kill state troopers and court officials. He was released in October, however, when it was determined that the FBI had violated the Alaska Constitution in gathering evidence against Anderson. In addition, unlike the other militia members, Anderson was not indicted in federal court nor charged with weapons violations.

Gunwalker--What Does Burke Have on Holder, Napolitano?

The rumor-mill inside the beltway is abuzz this evening about a series of documents and emails that former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke of the Arizona district is slated to turn over to Congressional investigators regarding the Gunwalker scandal, also known as Operation Fast and Furious.
Earlier today sources close to the investigation indicated thata major document dump could occur late this evening, implicating Attorney-General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in scandal so damning that neither would be able to keep their jobs. Those documents were said to originate with Burke.
But as of this report, no such release has been made public. This has 2 possible explanations: 1). that there is a delay in the release of the documents, or, 2). that Burke has already turned over the information but has done so covertly. If this is the case, the House Judiciary Committee has not confirmed or denied such an assumption.

Document Dump Expected Today Ahead of Holder's Testimony

Sources close to the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious, or Project Gunwalker, say that a major document dump is expected late today from the Justice Department ahead of Attorney-General Eric Holder's testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
The documents are expected to contain emails from Dennis Burke to Eric Holder and to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. So explosive are the emails thataccording to citizen investigative reporter Mike Vanderboegh, they could potentially result in the removal of both Holder and Napolitano from their jobs.
As a key figure in the Fast and Furious scandal, Burke is the former U.S. Attorney for the Arizona district whose participation in the scheme to cover-up the fact that the guns used to kill Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry were Gunwalker firearms is central to the Congressional investigation.

From the Boots on the Ground--a Ron Paul Campaign Worker Speaks

In response to a story this writer published yesterday entitled, 'How Ron Paul Could Win,' a detailed letter was received from a Ron Paul campaign worker who agreed with the article's premise that Ron Paul could win the Republican nomination by putting together a winning coalition of fiscal conservatives, independent swing voters, and disenchanted liberal Democrats who want U.S. troops out of harm's way in various parts of the world.
Of great interest is the description within the letter of a certain bellwether community in the heartland. Curiously, this community that is primarily over-60, the vast majority of whom are registered voters, expressed no problem whatsoever with Paul's foreign policy views. Although they may well have had some qualms in that area, their single-minded focus was on the domestic front--jobs, the economy, government spending, taxes, and our Constitutional freedoms.
Here is an excerpt from the letter that describes the above-mentioned community:

How Ron Paul Could Win

Conventional political wisdom has it that GOP Presidential candidate Ron Paul, R-Texas, has no chance of winning the Republican nomination for President. Republican voters, so say the pundits, will never vote for him in the primaries due to his sometimes outlandish and often misunderstood statements on the 9/11 attacks, Israel, and U.S. foreign policy. There is a way, however that Paul could win the nomination and even the Presidency. And here is how.
First, every candidate the Republicans have rolled out thus far have failed to gain traction, with perhaps the exception of Newt Gingrich. Gingrich now garners a 38% favorable among Republican voters, the highest of any candidate thus far. Romney, who had polled 27% at the height of his popularity as 'front runner,' is fading fast. In Iowa he has dropped to 3rd behind Newt and Ron Paul. Herman Cain is out. Rick Perry began to fade within the first 3 weeks of his candidacy and never regained his momentum. The others, Bachmann, Santorum, and Huntsman never gained much traction.

'Detainee' Bill Raises Serious Constitutional Questions

A Senate debate this week over a new 'detainee' provision in a bill that would allow American citizens on our own soil to be detained by the military indefinitely is raising serious Constitutional questions among many in the electorate. On Thursday Senators tangled over the bill, and Senator Lindsey Graham, R-SC, stated that the 'battlefield has been extended to U.S. soil.'
Graham supports the new legislation.
Constitutional watchdogs interpreted the statement as a green light for the military to target American citizens right here at home as possible terrorist suspects, thus giving soldiers the right to round up and detain indefinitely any person in the U.S. who is even merely suspected of engaging in acts against the government, all without a trial, due process of law, or a jury to find them guilty or innocent.

Late Friday Afternoon Document Dump: Gunwalker docs

The AP is reporting in a breaking news alert that in a late Friday afternoon document dump, the Justice Department released to Congress over 1300 pages of material on the Project Gunwalker scandal, also known as Operation Fast and Furious. The documents, according to the DOJ, 'explain' why at least two statements made under oath to Congress turned out to be false.
At issue is a letter written by Assistant Attorney-General Ron Welsh to Senator Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, back in February which claimed that the ATF neither knew about nor sanctioned the illegal sale of assault weapons to straw purchasers who then took the weapons across the border to Mexican drug cartels as part of its program called 'Fast and Furious.'
Both claims turned out to be false.

Could Abramoff Torpedo Newt's Candidacy?

Jack Abramoff, the political lobbyist who went to prison in 2006 for bribery, is making his rounds on the TV and radio circuit now that he is a free man. And he is spilling the beans on his own dubious activity and those he got to know as part of his work in the years leading up to his imprisonment.
The Houston Chronicle reports that this morning Abramoff appeared in a interview on a radio station in Denver, during which he claimed that Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is 'crooked, arrogant, and untrustworthy.'
Abramoff is promoting his new book, Capital Punishment: The Hard Truth About Washington Corruption from America's Most Notorious Lobbyist, and will appear as a guest tomorrow morning, December 3, on radio station WFHT AM 1360 in Orlando-Avon Park, Florida, at 11 AM ET.  Those outside the station's listening area can hear the show on the Internet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Gunwalker: Missing Brian Terry Murder Files Found, Sealed from Public View

As a follow-up to a previous report indicating that the court files on Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's murder had been 'lost,' it can now be reported that the files have been 'found' but are sealed from public view. This means that the public and the news media have no way of insuring the integrity of the legal system by observing how the case is conducted.
Gateway Pundit reported yesterday that the Obama Administration has sealed the records in federal court. This information was confirmed today by Judicial Watch...
