A brief evaluation of the first major GOP debate

With most of the key players in place, New Hampshire was the site of the first major GOP debate of the 2012 election cycle. Apart from the obvious failings of the network that sponsored it, and the reporter who asked the questions, the debate gave us an early glimpse into the qualities of those who are running for the Republican nomination for President.
Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of several key issues that are of vast importance to conservatives, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest score. This evaluation tool was developed and used by this writer during the 2008 election cycle, and focuses on where the candidates stand on the following core issues: the economy, jobs, scope and size of government, the national debt, taxes, immigration, abortion, foreign policy, national defense, gun rights, and the war on terror.

Devotional Thought for the Day

And now some spiritual food for the soul.

You can find it at Martin Christian Ministries.

Thanks, and God bless!

Stimulus? What freaking stimulus?!

Twenty-eight months after Congress passed President Obama’s signature economic stimulus law, and nearly one year after he declared the summer of 2010 to be “Recovery Summer,” 1.9 million fewer people are employed.
In February 2009, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that 141.7 million people were employed. By the end of May 2011 – the last month for which data are available – that number had fallen to 139.8 million, a difference of 1.9 million.

Did you see this? The latest outrage from the 'Manchurian President'

With our national debt standing at 14.3 trillion and rising, over 100 trillion when you add in unfunded liabilities such as Medicare and Social Security, the Manchurian President guaranteed Egypt ONE BILLION DOLLARS to cover its present economic crisis.

America can go to hell, according to this President, as long as we bailout every other nation on earth, especially the ones with extremist-leaning tendencies.

Since the much-touted 'democratic revolution' in Egypt, the fair-minded, cool-headed minions who lean toward Muslim Brotherhood rule have embarked on a systematic program of raping, torturing, and murdering Christians, and burning down their churches.

Tell me why the Manchurian President should not be designated as an enemy combatant and placed on trial in a military tribunal?

The 2A Roundup--the Top Ten for Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Focusing on guns and politics, here are today's top ten from around the blogosphere.

Roberta X provides some scathing commentary on last night's GOP 'debate' in New Hampshire.

Mike McCarville points to the observation that the mainstream media's pathological fixation on Sarah Palin is 'creepy.'

Tam says that the leviathans in the federal government are trying to repeal the industrial revolution. Look at her evidence as proof.

Breda shows off some Second Amendment cufflinks.

Mike Vanderboegh reports that House Democrats are now going after Darrell Issa's staff in retaliation for investigating the Gunwalker scandal.

Pamela Geller sends out an election Jihad alert. A Muslim with former ties to the terrorist organization HAMAS is running for public office in California.

Days of our Trailers says that the Violence Policy Center is touting 'the end of the firearms industry.'

Murdoc reminds us that today is Flag Day. Take a look.

WRSA sends out an important notice--a must-read. Read it all and respond accordingly. We must be prepared.

Even HuffPo concedes Palin is no bimbo

In the aftermath of the mainstream media's frenzied scan of thousands of Sarah Palin's emails over the weekend, even the Huffington Post concedes that Palin is no bimbo. The leftwing blog stated that even on her Blackberry she writes at an 8.5 reading level--the same as most corporate execs.
According to the website Conservatives4Palin, the Huffington Post concluded that Palin's writing of informal emails depicts a person who has knowledge of grammar and syntax and can express herself clearly.

Today's Devotional Thought

I make no apologies for mixing religion with politics. That is ME. It is who I am.

John Jacob H described me as the 'Chaplain of gun bloggers.'  While I do not claim such a distinction, I am happy if someone finds help in the words I provide with regard to the spiritual life.

Today's devotion is at the ministry site. It's entitled, 'Out of My Darkness,' and you can find it at Martin Christian Ministries.

The U.S. Worse Off than Greece?

As most of us have been warning for several years, the chickens are starting to come home to roost with America's unbridled spending habits. One analyst says that now the U.S. is worse off than Greece.

You know, that country in the EU that is in economic collapse?

Here is part of the report:

"When adding in all of the money owed to cover future liabilities in entitlement programs the US is actually in worse financial shape than Greece and other debt-laden European countries, Pimco's Bill Gross told CNBC Monday.Much of the public focus is on the nation's public debt, which is $14.3 trillion. But that doesn't include money guaranteed for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, which comes to close to $50 trillion, according to government figures."

Actually, when the 14.3 trillion is added to unfunded liabilities, America's debt is well over 100 trillion. But naturally no one wants to deal with that, so it doesn't get reported...

The 2A Roundup--the Top Ten for Monday, June 13, 2011

Around O-Town presents an explosive story showing the latest revisionism and outright lies of Islamists and Barack Obama.

John Jacob H discusses the fallacy of the 'shoot to wound' theory of self-defense.

Brigid blogs on 'tactical plastic' and self-defense.

CLO comments on the fact that Project Gunwalker takes center stage in Congress TODAY!

Nicki reports a major injustice committed against one of our own fellow gun bloggers. Read it all.

GunRights4US declares that the armed forces are not defending his rights. So, whose rights ARE they defending? Consider his reasoning!

Alphecca sends out a red alert on a Democratic candidate for public office who openly states he wants to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

The Roundup's Top Ten

Hiya, folks! As I said before it's been very busy around here of late. That trend seems to be permanent, and thus, I had some re-thinking to do about my various projects.

One of those is The Liberty Sphere. I've been doing this blog since 2006, and I have no intention of quitting. But some realignment is in order.

The Roundup will not necessarily be published daily, but several times per week, depending on what's happening in the blogosphere. In addition, each Roundup will focus on the day's 'top ten,' that is, the top 10 blog entries for that day will be linked. This will set some reasonable limits for me.

I will also try to focus more on variety. That means everyone will get a chance, and not just the big guns.

I welcome your entries, story alerts, and article suggestions. All will be considered.

As we move forward I will also include stories outside the Roundup section, stories that merit their own single blog entry. This will give The Liberty Sphere more variety. Other changes will be made as time progresses.

I hope that the changes will make the blog better and more user-friendly.

Thanks for your continued support!

House panel considers subpoena power in DOJ-ATF gun smuggling scandal

In a meeting today of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Chair Darrell Issa, R-California, and his colleagues will deal with the issue of subpoena power in the ongoing investigation into the DOJ-ATF gun smuggling scandal in which the Obama Administration placed over 1000 guns in the hands of Mexican drug cartels in order to claim U.S. guns are the driving force behind the violence. The Administration even cited those weapons as a motivation for massive new gun control laws, claiming that 90% of the guns used by the cartels came from the Unites States.
Those statistics were bogus....

Palin: the emails, the Paul Revere flap, and the foolish media

When it was announced that Sarah Palin's emails from the time she was Governor of Alaska would be released last Friday, scores of media hounds descended upon Wasilla and the state capital hoping to be the first to 'break the story' of unimaginable embarrassment and buffoonery that was sure to emanate from the bumbling babbling mush-head who would dare even think about running for the GOP nomination. The Washington Post and the New York Times even solicited citizen volunteers to help then scour the voluminous emails, looking for any juicy morsel of material by which they could hang Palin in effigy.
Instead, as Glen Reynolds of Instapundit put it, the whole thing turned out to be another Al Capone's vault...
