Breaking update on New Mexico connection in gun smuggling scandal

On Saturday it was reported that the owner of a gun store near Columbus, New Mexico had been arrested and charged with multiple felony counts of firearms trafficking in connection with the ATF gun smuggling scandal that has now been exposed in four states. Ian Garland of 'Chapparel Guns' in Chapparel, NM--near Columbus--sits in jail for doing nothing more than cooperating with local law enforcement acting under the knowledge and consent of the ATF.
The mayor and police chief of Columbus, along with 9 other local citizens, were similarly charged.
But the breaking update today is that the now-ex-mayor of Columbus, Eddie Espinoza, has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy, three counts of making false statements in the acquisition of firearms, and three counts of smuggling firearms into Mexico from the United States.
Note carefully the second part of the indictments--'making false statements in the acquisition of firearms'...
