This is a breaking news alert from the U.S. Senate.
Senate Democrats have successfully defeated attempts by GOP Senators to strip the HC bill of drastic cuts in Medicare.
Thus, the original $500 billion dollars in cuts to Medicare proposed by Obama and the Democrats will remain in the healthcare bill.

Tony,
While I understand that there are people who actually NEED MediCare (because we have created their dependency upon the system), I would be happy if the entire Social Security / Medicare waste-fraud-abuse went away completely. Half of government exists to perpetuate this monstrosity ad infinitum and it needs to be abolished if the Republic is to survive. Nowhere in the Constitution does a mandate exist to redistribute wealth of any sort from one person to another. To do so is anathema to the founding principles of our Nation.
Pax,

Newbius,
Please understand my position on this. I agree with you in principle. But in terms of practicality we cannot abolish SS or Medicare without first putting something in place that will satisfy its intended goal. We have raised generations of Americans who depend on government to do both, so a massive cultural and policy shift must take place, which will take years of re-educating the public.
My opposition to any cuts in Medicare at this particular time is solely due to the reasons the cuts are being proposed and by whom. At present, those who propose these cuts are doing so to force Senior Adults onto a massive new government bureaucracy, ObamaCare. And if ObamaCare isn't approved, they simply want Seniors to die. Very convenient. One way or another they will prevent Seniors from getting care at all, or they will ration their care with ObamaCare. This is entirely unacceptable.
So, until level-headed solutions are proposed, I am on record OPPOSING any cuts to Medicare or Social Security. And, to be frank, this issue will sink Democrats and liberals who run the Party.
Regards,
Tony
