Blago

Now that the Illinois Senate has voted to impeach and remove from office Governor Rod Blagojevich, it will be interesting to see what move federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald makes.

Fitzgerald has been slow to bring a formal indictment against Blago, although he has been charged with attempting to sell Barack Obama's former Senate seat to the highest bidder.

Certain select excerpts from secret surveillance tapes of Blago were played at the impeachment hearings, and they are very damaging. We are told that there is much more damaging information that has not been disclosed.

But this remains to be seen unless and until Fitzgerald brings a formal indictment and all of the tapes are played at trial.

The national significance of this trial cannot be overstated. At issue will be Blago's connections, if any, with Rahm Emanuel and Obama staffers concerning filling the vacant Senate seat.

Even the President himself could be called as a witness.

Think sealed indictment, national security issues, en camera trial and/or sudden death.

Yeah, anything to protect the Chairman and his Politburo.
