Mention the name Barry Goldwater, and immediately the politically astute recognize the iconic conservative leader in American politics from the 20th century.
Goldwater was the longtime U.S. Senator from Arizona and GOP Presidential candidate in 1964 against Lyndon Banes Johnson--perhaps the most corrupt and obnoxious human being ever to occupy the White House.
Goldwater was a man of principles and a man of principled arguments.
A debate has been raging of late on the subject of 'extremism.'
Goldwater had plenty to say about it. And the following quote is from his acceptance speech before the GOP in the summer of 1964:
'Let me remind you that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. Let me also remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.'
My sincere conviction is that some among us need to re-examine their views and priorities concerning just how far we will go in the defense of liberty.

With that quote fielded, I sincerely doubt Goldwater would have supported tearing the nation apart in a misguided and poorly-directed quest for returning to the Constitution, especially considering that such actions have absolutely no guarantee, or even indication, of success.
The people who are tearing the nation apart are not us. That
is being done quite well by those who have made it clear they have no regard for Constitutional limits.

Great pull from the quote annuals!
Thanks for reminding me of it

Jason,
Goldwater was a treasure. His kind don't come along very often.
