Clinton Appears Headed for Victory in PA

Hillary Rodham Clinton appears headed for victory today in the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary. Tracking polls indicate a steady Clinton lead, and the average of these polls indicate a 51% to 44% victory for Clinton.

This is far short of the double-digit win she needs over Obama to claim a major mandate by the voters in Pennsylvania, but it is impressive nonetheless.

Clinton could still eek out a 10% victory margin over Obama if voter turnout in Pittsburgh and the state's small towns and rural areas is heavy. Philadelphia, however, is expected to go heavily in favor of Obama.

One major item to watch as the vote tally comes in this evening: Philly will probably be one of the last areas to report its vote counts, meaning that in the early going Hillary will appear to have a massive lead.

But don't be fooled. As the evening wears on and the Philadelphia vote is counted, her lead will be greatly reduced.
