Important Pro-Life March in Washington Today

Washington, DC (TLS). Emboldened by the control of both Houses of Congress by abortion-supporting Democrats, pro-life forces from across the country are expected to stream into the nation's capital by the tens of thousands today to continue to extol the virtues of supporting human life. Many within the pro-life movement failed to count the cost of failing to work hard to defeat abortion-supporting Democrats in November.

The War in Iraq was a convenient attention-grabbing scheme, a diversionary tactic, of those whose subversive agenda forms a danger to the country. As the Republican base stayed home in November and as Democrats were allowed to steal the attention by concentrating on the War alone, pro-life forces found themselves in the unexpected position of being on the defensive, having to fight even harder to preserve life in the face of a Congress that neither values nor cares for the most helpless among us.

The silver lining in this dark cloud is the phenomenon that I call 'the underdog effect.' Many movements do much better in pushing their agenda when they are clearly in a weakened position. This brings out the fight in them. Such is the case, I believe, with the pro-life movement.

As Democrats took charge of Congress with an agenda that is hostile to pro-life positions, the movement came to life once again, realizing that unless it mobilizes its base and gets to work, the Democrats will effectively negate every single small victory the movement has garnered over the past 25 years.
