Well, my friends, there is much to celebrate here at The Liberty Sphere on this fine Saturday morning. And a friendly 'top 'o the morning' to each of you! I hope you have a great Saturday.
I am still basking in the clear victory we achieved over the Democrat traitors in the Senate who attempted to silence bloggers, grassroots citizens' groups, and small issues-oriented enterprises by requiring us to register with Congress before we could encourage you, the readers, to contact your Senators and Representatives concerning pending legislation. Because of you and your willingness to let your voices be heard, it has been reported that the Senate was swamped with emails, petitions, phone calls, and faxes expressing sheer outrage over what they were about to do. The majority in the Senate, 55 to be exact, heard the outcry of the people and voted to strip Section 220 from bill S.1.
A hearty thank-you goes to Senators Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and Robert Bennett of Utah, for sponsoring the amendment to strip the ethics bill of its liberty-robbing language.
We can all celebrate this victory.
However, let's not forget that the battle isn't over, unfortunately.
We must remember that 43 Democrats voted to silence the free speech of the grassroots citizens. If you think for one minute that they will let one defeat stop their march of madness against American liberty, think again.
The House of Representatives has yet to formulate its own version of 'lobbying reform.' We can rest assured that Nancy Pelosi's gang of thugs will attempt to do the same thing Senate Democrats tried to do--silence free speech. Thus, we must be ever-vigilant. The forces in the U.S. Congress that seek to rob the citizens of their Constitutional rights are strong, forceful, and persistent.
We need to gear up to fight the House version of lobbying reform should a provision be included that would severely hamper citizens from influencing others to contact Congress concerning pending legislation.
But that's not all.
Let's not forget that Congress is also poised to re-submit a version of the old so-called 'fairness doctrine,' which would give Democrats, liberals, and other liberty-robbers free air time to respond to talk radio hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. The 'fairness doctrine' was dropped from federal law in the mid-1980s after the television and radio airwaves had been totally dominated by liberal bias for over 40 years.
With the mainstream media still solidly liberal, seeking to elect Democrats to Congress and the White House, talk radio immediately arose as a powerful alternative in the late 1980s. It is precisely because we do NOT have a 'fairness doctrine' that conservative voices are heard.
How is this the case?
The liberal media denies it has a liberal bias. Thus, we would be consistently denied any demands for equal time to respond to the likes of Katie Couric, or Matt Lauer, or George Stephanopolis, or that Matthews creep on CNN. However, you can bet your bottom dollar that radio stations would be forced to provide free equal time to liberals if those stations air programs like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.
And this is precisely why the so-called 'fairness doctrine' is actually the 'unfairness doctrine.' The deck will be stacked against conservative voices by the mainstream liberal media. Conservative talk radio will be silenced.
So you see, this is another veiled attack on freedom of speech by Democrats in Congress. The consideration of the fairness doctrine will be coming up soon. We must be ready to fight it, just as we did the personal lobbying section of the ethics bill.
I have every confidence that you who are the readers of The Liberty Sphere and other guardians of liberty will come through once again by defeating the fairness doctrine. I will keep you posted on this continually breaking story.
Until then, have a GREAT day! And thanks again.
