The Quintessential Example of Media Hypocrisy

A couple of days ago Matt Drudge caused a firestorm of controversy to sweep conservative circles when he reported that NBC was considering banning columnist Ann Coulter 'for life.'

That may yet happen, no doubt, but not yet.

Coulter appeared on NBC's Today Show yesterday morning, and once again caused liberals and mainstream media types to grind their teeth--all as part of making her rounds to promote her new book.

But, as L. Brent Bozell III writes at CNS News, the mainstream media's treatment of Coulter is a blatant example of just how thoroughly partisan it is...and how much it hates the truth.

States Bozell:

It’s easy to run down a list of inflammatory liberals who are welcomed on the TV morning shows. Start with Kitty Kelley’s wild “investigative” books on the Reagans or the Bushes. Or Michael Moore’s kooky conspiracy theories. Or Al Franken suggesting Karl Rove and Scooter Libby should be executed over Plamegate. (NBC’s Matt Lauer and his off-camera crew laughed at that.)

Or recall Bill Maher on his HBO show in 2007 suggesting Arianna Huffington shouldn’t ban commenters on her website wishing Dick Cheney had died in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan. “That’s a funny joke,” Maher said. “If this isn’t China, shouldn’t you be able to say that?” He added that Cheney’s death by suicide bomber might be a public service: “I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.”

Harry Smith hosted Maher on CBS just months ago on his faith-mocking movie “Religulous” and didn’t say one discouraging word to him about his caustic remarks about Cheney or his hateful anti-Christian bigotry. Not one word.

And yet, when Coulter exhibits the very same type of acerbic rhetoric aimed at liberals instead of conservatives, the mainstream media in its false righteous indignation acts as if it has the moral authority to pronounce judgment.

Not as long as Matthews, Olbermann, Harry Smith, Matt Lauer, Michael Moore, or Al Franken are around...

And therefore, the Coulter flap is the quintessential example of media hypocrisy.

Coulter's New Book Examines Media and Obama

Controversial conservative commentator Ann Coulter has written a new book to be released the first week of January, just in time to rain on Barack Obama's inaugural parade.

The book is entitled, Guilty, and it examines the curiously cozy relationship between the mainstream media and Barack Obama.

Each of Coulter's books have been best-sellers, and from all early indications, Guilty will be no different.

For an overview of the book, including a link to Amazon for the release date and early-purchase information, click HERE for a special report filed by Matt Drudge.

Poor Little Innocent, Frail, Weak Elizabeth Edwards

Washington, DC (TLS). To hear the mainstream media describe it, the poor, innocent, frail and weak Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, was compelled to call in impromptu to Chris Matthews' show to defend her husband against the relentless, cold, mean, and barbaric attacks of that pit bull Ann Coulter.

Never has a pathetic political operation gotten so much milage out of the comments of a ideological opponent.

And the Edwards laugh all the way to the bank.

First, Elizabeth Edwards is no innocent, frail, and weak human being. To the contrary, despite her fight against cancer, she is one of John Edwards' most effective and TOUGH campaign advisers. But you have to give the woman credit, she played the poor little innocent frail and weak wife to the 't.' She should win an Oscar.

Second, Edwards' phone call to the Chris Matthews show was no impromptu, spur-of-the-moment thing. It was PLANNED. Matthews informed Coulter just before airtime that Elizabeth Edwards 'might' call in.

'Might.' Sure, Matthews. You set the whole thing up. You even admitted it.

Third, Coulter's statements about John Edwards are largely deserved. And for the record, she never actually said she wished he would die in a terrorist attack. That statement was a joke and was a takeoff on the statement by Bill Maher that Vice President Dick Cheney should die in a terrorist attack...about which he was 100% serious. It was that very week that the blogosphere was full of venomous attacks against Cheney, who has heart disease, to the effect of, 'We wish he would die.'

Now, did the mainstream media report on the fact that countless posts to the Daily Koz and the Huffington Post website were calling for the death of Dick Cheney? Nary one.

What about their comments concerning White House Press Secretary Tony Snow's cancer, to the effect of, 'We hope he dies. His death will be proof that God hates him.'

NONE of this was reported by the mainstream media. Zilch.

Yet Ann Coulter is made out to be a close relative of Bagdad's 'Chemical Ali' because she uses what the Left had already been saying to turn the tables around on Edwards, saying in effect, 'Every time I say anything negative about him I get attacked. Maybe if I do what the Left does and wish he would die in a terrorist attack, that would be just fine.'

But you see, most of the reporters in the mainstream media are too dumb to follow carefully such logic and use of the English language, and unfortunately, many of their viewers are in the same boat.

Thus, it is much easier to assume Coulter meant she hoped Edwards would die in a terrorist attack.

Make no mistake, my friends, the Edwards campaign, for which Elizabeth Edwards is the most powerful player outside the candidate himself, has its own pit bull tactics that make Ann Coulter look like Pollyanna.

An Edwards campaign staffer wrote this on the Edwards campaign blog in the months prior to her resignation (and she was not even fired for the statement): "What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit"?

Wonder what the good, down-home Baptist and Methodist folk in Edwards' hometown of Seneca, South Carolina think about this blasphemous attack on Christian belief?

Personally, I don't think they're surprised. People who know the Edwards know that they are relentless and cold opportunists. And in this way they are so very much like the Clintons.

Coulter Makes the Case for Concealed Carry

Washington, DC (TLS). Ann Coulter's latest column makes the case for allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons in the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre. Virginia Tech is a 'gun-free zone.' Thus, no law abiding citizen was allowed to carry their concealed handguns on the campus. They were sitting ducks for a madman like Cho Seung-Hui.

As we saw with the case of the Muslim who went on a shooting spree in Salt Lake City, a concealed handgun carried by an off-duty police officer took down the perpetrator before he could take more lives.

Had someone been on the campus of Virginia Tech with such a concealed weapon, Cho would have been gunned down long before his rampage became the largest single-perpetrator massacre in U.S. history.

Hypocrisy of the Leftwing Speech Police

Charlotte, NC (TLS). The Leftwing hack called 'the Daily Kos' has been mounting a campaign to get advertisers to pull their ads off of Ann Coulter's website for using the term 'faggot' in a recent speech. The Liberty Sphere and a few other brave souls came to Coulter's defense in the face of a wall of criticism, even among some conservatives.

As it turns out, the Daily Kos has used the term 'faggot' more than once in reference to various and sundry human beings whom the Koz obviously thinks are beneath contempt.

In fact, there is widespread hypocrisy on the matter of so-called 'hate speech' on the part of the Leftwing, which consistently takes on the role of the speech police when it comes to conservatives, although they rarely live up to their own standards.

Here all about it in this CNS News Service commentary on the subject:

Lazy Gov't Employees Responsible for Walter Reed Mess

Charlotte, NC (TLS). It should be a no-brainer that military officials do not have the responsibility of cleaning the floors, placing rat-traps under beds, and using anti-fungals to clean walls at VA hospitals. That's why we have maintenance crews.

But these maintenance crews are a protected class under the federal government's guidelines, implemented by Democrats many years ago, that prevents civil service employees from being fired.

Thus, the VA hospitals are stuck with what they've got--slothful, lazy, unconcerned, and incompetent maintenance employees who leave buildings in a mess while they draw regular paychecks in spite of the failure to do their jobs.

Ann Coulter once again nails the problem in her latest column on the Walter Reed debacle--and lays the blame squarely at the feet of Democrats who passed the laws that led to the problem.

Coulter Rips Prosecutor Fitzgerald a New One!

Washington, DC (TLS). The Special Prosecutor who prosecuted a bogus case against Scooter Libby is a danger to society, freedom, and honest men and women. For political purposes only, Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald paraded Scooter Libby before the court and the news media as a criminal, in spite of the fact that Libby had committed no crime.

Fitzgerald prosecuted this case for one reason only--to try to embarrass the Bush White House and to attack Vice President Dick Cheney. For that he is a scum-bag that should be investigated for bringing false charges against an innocent man--enough to be disbarred and charged with crimes.

Libby was 'nifonged' by a rogue Prosecutor every bit as corrupt as Mike Nifong.

Ann Coulter, however, says it better than anyone in this riveting piece:

Ann Coulter Fires Back

Washington, DC (TLS). Under fire for supposedly using the term 'faggot' to refer to Democrat Presidential hopeful John Edwards, Ann Coulter has fired back at her critics. Stating that if the top Presidential contenders in either Party feel they must apologize for every remark she makes, then 'they better keep that statement handy cause there's going to be a lot more in the next year.'

The 'speech and thought' police in America and in Western Europe is actually a totalitarian coalition. If they can silence free speech, and even invade our thought processes, scouring for every single vestige of 'forbidden feelings and points of view,' then they will have succeeded in creating a totalitarian society where human liberty is a thing of the past, without going to war or firing a single shot.

Ann Coulter has the right IN THE UNITED STATED OF AMERICA to say whatever she wants, no matter what the speech and thought police of the Left in the mainstream media and the elected officials of the government think about it. The U.S. Constitution trumps all other law, PERIOD. Thus, laws that are passed that limit speech, religion, assembly, the Press, and gun rights are ILLEGITIMATE. Jefferson referred to such legislative initiatives as tyrannical and lacking in any authority.

Thus, as a lifelong JEFFERSONIAN LIBERAL, not to be confused with modern Liberals, I say to Ann Coulter's critics, 'Go find the nearest lake, and jump in.' Your idiocy is thoroughly annoying.
