WH reporter: 'Take this town and shove it'

After 10 years working as a much-coveted Washington, D.C. political reporter, with White House Press Corps credentials, Sam Youngman decided to hang it up and return home to Kentucky, where he is now a political reporter for the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Youngman's disillusionment with the Washington political establishment and the media hounds that cover it is expressed in his parting shot, "Take this town and shove it." The words also happen to be the title of a personal expose of sorts, an article in Politico Magazine, published today, which takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of life "inside the beltway."

But Youngman's tale of sex, booze, and White House briefing room encounters ends with a month-long stay in alcohol and drug rehab and a severe case of disillusionment, all of which led to his departure from the D.C. scene in order to return home to a much more sedate and sane life as a reporter for a medium sized newspaper.
