Among those citizens who place a high value on the rights guaranteed to them by the Constitution, few issues elicit more emotional intensity than gun rights.
The Second Amendment is viewed as a bellwether as to how the nation as a whole, particularly the politicians, perceives and treats human freedom. The right to self defense using any of the tools available is so important to a large portion of the population that those who seek to limit that right are viewed with deep suspicion.
If a politician would remove your right to self defense, he will probably seek to restrict your right to free speech as well...
