The case never should have been prosecuted in the first place. The Sanford, Florida police chief lost his job when he refused to arrest George Zimmerman, stating there was no clear evidence to implicate Zimmerman in the murder of Trayvon Martin.
In addition, the former lead investigator was replaced when he, too, concluded that the evidence did not point to Zimmerman's guilt, not of first degree murder, not of second degree murder, not of manslaughter.
