Congressman: IRS official 'cannot take the 5th'

A top IRS official who heads the division that oversees the applications and decisions regarding tax exempt status for organizations went before Congress today, made a statement, claimed her innocence, and then took the 5th in refusing to answer any questions.

Lois Lerner is a key witness that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform called in for questioning in connection with the IRS scandal that has rocked the administration, a scandal during which IRS officials targeted, harassed, and delayed conservative and religious groups while putting liberal groups on the fast track.
