Missouri reveals ATF wanted gun owner data

In late February it was first reported that the state of Missouri had turned over to the federal government the complete list of all licensed concealed carry permit holders in the state. Many states, including Missouri, require gun owners to get training and pass a field test in order to carry concealed guns.

The states are not required to share their lists of concealed carry permit holders with the federal government. But apparently Missouri did exactly that some time in February.

Gun rights activists immediately cried foul, given that the federal government is prevented by current law from establishing a database of gun owners.

An investigation into the incident ensued, and public hearings were held...
