Romney opts for substance over style with Ryan pick

In a move that some observers had already predicted but that took others by surprise, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as his vice presidential running mate today.

Although Ryan has a certain charismatic style and appeal all his own, most political observers note that in choosing Ryan, Romney has opted for substance over style. Ryan is known primarily as a policy geek, famous for his so-called "Ryan Plan" that he introduced earlier this year in which he calls for a complete overhaul of federal spending that reduces the size of government.

Concern spreads over colonel's scenario of crushing a tea party insurgency

On Sunday a news report filed by this reporter focused on a training tool used by retired U.S. Army Col. Kevin Benson which features a fictitious scenario involving the crushing of a tea party insurgency in Darlington, S.C.

The scenario, and the news report about it, created a firestorm of controversy across the country that was not reported in the mainstream media.

Concern continues to spread today, however, as a major conservative media outlet, PJTV, produced a video Thursday outlining the multiple problems inherent with the colonel's scenario.

The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Thursday, August 9, 2012

This is a late edition of the Roundup. I got behind, but here it is. All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

David Codrea reports that the ATF is involved in some new chicanery, breaking the law as it lowers the boom on licensed firearms dealers.

Mike Vanderboegh alerts us to the fact that The Bastard is getting some friendly press in the MSM in his continuing vendetta against gun owners.

Nicki says that somebody should be more careful about their sources, and no, this has nothing to do with Drudge.

Brigid has some timeless lessons from "Blake's Seven." Take a look.

WRSA notes that in today's world there is no place left to run for liberty. The battle for human freedom must take place right here, in North America. In my view we must not concede one inch of ground in this great nation to the forces of oppression, ever.

Way Up North posts all of the news of interest from the great state of Alaska.

Roberta X provides a must-read titled, "Going Armed to the Terror of Halfwits and Police."

Denise Simon at Stand Up America debunks the fairy tale concerning "Romney Hood" by the Obama people.

Pamela Geller has interesting reading on the connection between National Socialism (NAZI) and Islam, particularly as it relates to Aryanism.

Standing By points to an excellent article on why we cannot have "reasonable gun control."

Ginsburg confirms she originally wrote dissent in ObamaCare case

In an interview with Reuters Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg confirmed earlier reports that she had originally written a dissenting opinion in the ObamaCare case in which Chief Justice John Roberts stunned conservatives and liberals alike by siding with the court's liberals in upholding the law.

This reporter had noted in an earlier article just after the ruling that Justice Antonin Scalia's dissent at times read like the majority opinion, particularly in the manner in which it makes reference to Ginsburg's remarks as if they are the dissenting opinion, the point being that right up until a few days before the ruling was issued Roberts was apparently set to rule with the conservatives.

At the time of the court's decision this reporter stated that it had become clear that Roberts had changed his mind within the three or four days prior to the ruling.

Libertarian says third parties will not impact presidential race

Libertarian activist and stock market analyst Karl Denninger stated today that despite early indications that conservative voters might split their support between Romney and a third party candidate, thus tipping the election to Obama, the reality is that during this election cycle third parties will have little or no impact on the presidential race.

Denninger also maintains that Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson is largely to blame for the failure of a viable third party bid.

The reasoning for Denninger's assertions goes to the heart of the process of political tracking polls.

The 2A News Roundup--Top Ten for Tuesday, August 7, 2012

All guns and politics from the best gun rights and liberty bloggers on the Internet.

Mike Vanderboegh sounds the warning alarm that in many places ID is now required in order to purchase ammo, at least at one place he visited today.

Stand Up America reports rampant voter roll irregularities across the country. DEMS are famous for stealing elections this way.

The New York Liberty Report points to an article stating that denying Ron Paul a major role on the speaker's platform at the Republican Convention defies all logic. I agree. Same goes for Sarah Palin. These two persons represent a significant voting block that the GOP cannot afford to offend.

Mike McCarville reports, on the other hand, that two individuals who have some popularity among conservatives will be on the GOP program--Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and Senator Rand Paul, who is, of course, Ron Paul's son.

Tam offers her unique commentary on the gun control debate.

CLO posts "An Obamanation." Take a look!

Pamela Geller reports explosive news today that a spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood, the supposed "moderate entity" that Obama, Hillary, and others support, has stated that "America will be brought to its knees." Why, how moderate of you!

The Smallest Minority has two must-see video excerpts, one from Thomas Sowell and the other from Caroline Glick.

The Wandering Minstrel blogs on "shooting the spouse's guns."

Blonde Sagacity offers some highly thought-provoking commentary on the notion that we have free speech, but only if it isn't offensive.

Obama classmate blows lid off of scandalous secrets

Critics of the so-called "birthers" who believe that President Obama was not born in Hawaii and thus is not a U.S. citizens often point to the most outlandish of the allegations against the president by persons of questionable repute. But suppose a person whose credibility is beyond reproach makes charges that are difficult if not impossible to refute?

And suppose at least some of that person's allegations are supported by dozens of others not only whose credibility is fully reliable but who can provide a significant body of evidence to support those allegations?

Two significant bodies of evidence have emerged within the last 24 hours that appear to corroborate, at least on the surface, some of the charges made by Obama opponents who question his qualifications for the presidential office.

WRSA has an interesting read on "rendering the state null and void."

Karl Denninger comments on the explosive news issued today that chemotherapy can actually CAUSE cancer to spread in some people...something the medical authorities told you all about, I'm sure.

Way Up North provides the quote of the day from Founding Father James Madison.

Nicki unleashes some characteristic vitriol, this time aimed at a Chick-fil-A protester.

Standing By posts some must-read commentary titled, "The Long War."

John Jacob H has a reminder from an August past, a day that will live in infamy. Take a look.

Brigid, in case you haven't read it, has a goody titled, "Unto the Breach."

Days of our Trailers points to some more examples of blood dancing--the activity in which the Left engages whenever there is a shooting.

Alphecca says that a lot more education is needed on the various gun laws around the country.

Gibson Guitars hit with $300,000 fine by Justice

In order to settle an ongoing dispute with the Obama administration over the materials used to make its world famous musical instruments, Gibson Guitars has agreed to settle with the Justice Department by paying a fine of $300,000.

As part of the terms of the settlement, Gibson will also pay $50,000 to a federal conservation fund and agree to withdraw its claims to multiple thousands of dollars' worth of fingerboards the Obama administration seized from the company.

Army colonel ignites firestorm with article on crushing a 'tea party insurgency'

A retired U.S. Army colonel who now teaches modern warfare to soldiers at the University of Foreign Military and Cultural Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas has co-written an article with a Civil War expert that has ignited a firestorm today among those increasingly concerned about what some say is a distinct anti-civilian tone that has infected much of the military and Homeland Security since 2009.
