IF JOBLESSNESS IS AS BAD AS THE DEPRESSION, WHY ARE THERE NO BREAD LINES?

If one believes, as I do, that the actual present rate of unemployment is as bad or worse than the Great Depression of the 1930s, then why are there no long bread lines and human suffering in the streets?
