Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. On this day we remember those who lost their lives at the hands of a Socialist tyrant who not only hated freedom but an entire group of people--the Jews.
That unbridled hatred led to the systematic slaughter of roughly 8 million Jews and roughly 5 million political dissidents.
The 'Ovens of Auschwitz' still stand today as a grim, chilling reminder of what took place in Europe during WWII at the hands of most of the most advanced, sophisticated societies on earth--the German Third Reich.
To this very day I am still overcome with the 'what ifs.' What if Britain had heeded Winston Churchill's numerous warnings about Hitler, long before he amassed the power that brought him to the position of Fuhrer?
What if the Jews had refused to be disarmed by the Nazis? Remember, prior to Nazi rule, Germans were allowed to own and possess handguns and defensive firearms. After Hitler came to power, the German government enacted gun registration. Then, later, they confiscated the guns they had registered. What if the German citizens had refused to give up their firearms? What if the Jews, who, by the late 1930s knew that they were being targeted for 'extermination' had used firearms to blow the Nazi bastards to smithereens?
And what if Germans as a whole had listened to voices of warning, such as Lutheran pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was sent to prison for preaching against Hitler and the Nazis, and was later executed in prison for participating in a plot to assassinate Hitler?
But of course, voices like Bonhoeffer's are often dismissed as 'crazy,' 'extremist,' and 'off the deep end.'
Really?
Had the German freedom fighters succeeded we may have avoided not only WWII but the senseless, extremist, and 'off the deep end' slaughter of 8 million Jews and 5 million political dissidents.
In commemoration of this day, I send you to one of the best firearms rights organizations in this country today, which, interestingly enough, is run by Jews--Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
