Apparently online news providers are running into the same problem as the print editions of newspapers--advertising alone is not enough to cover costs.

As soon as they start charging for it, they'll see their page views and site traffic dwindle to almost nothing.
Not only that, but there will be heavy resistance to the concept. The notion of free access to information has become entrenched in the online mindset. It will take massive cultural shifts in the thinking of most people to get them to accept paying for a service that has been free up until now.
And don't forget that government wants its money-grubbing hands on the action as well, attempting to tax and levy fees on Internet access and transactions.
I can see that happening before paying for online news. With the current mindset in Washington, I wouldn't put anything past the scum in their attempts to get our money.
