Republican Susan Collins, who is certainly no conservative, said it best when she stated, 'I cannot vote to confirm a tax cheat as head of the U.S. Treasury.'
It seems that in the days of 'hope and change' and a 'new day in Washington,' about the only thing one can depend on is that the faces change. Neither Obama nor the Democrats have been interested in avoiding corruption, that's for sure.
Today the U.S. Senate voted 60-34 to confirm Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary.
This comes in spite of the fact that Geithner did not pay his taxes. Obama's contention that it was 'an insignificant oversight' is simply false. The sum was substantial, and the man who will oversee the IRS and tax collections should know tax policy from top-to-bottom, particularly when it comes to his own taxes.
In spite of his confirmation, however, Geithner faces significant opposition...just not enough to deny him the job in this new day of the Democrats' culture of corruption.

What good do confirmation hearings accomplish if everyone is going to be confirmned in the long run anyway? Why all the questions, why all the accusations and background investigations if they're not going to matter? Why don't we just all meet down at the coffee house and chit-chat about it and save a lot of time and money...OR how 'bout we get some folks up there that have a backbone rather than a limp noodle to stand up!
