Bitter Cold Temps to Hit Eastern Half of U.S.

Meteorologists have identified what is known as an 'Arctic Express' that will bring bitterly cold temperatures to the entire eastern half of the U.S., from the Great Plains to the East Coast, and even into the Deep South.

AccuWeather experts say it will be the coldest blast since 1994.

Temperatures in New York City could reach below zero, and in the upper New England states temps could dip into the minus-double-digits.

On top of that, more snow is expected as well in a year in which annual snowfall records have already been broken in a dozen places or more.

The Arctic Express is expected to reach the United States by next Thursday and Friday.

In 1994, the last time we saw this phenomenon, even Jacksonville, Florida plunged into the teens and 20s.

I remember that winter... Lived in Maryland at the time, and the camping trailer we were living in while our house was built got turned into an icecube. The water lines froze the night before the entire trailer got encased in two inches of ice (freezing rain is a bitch) and, once we were able to get out, we finally gave up and moved into a hotel until the house was done.

Funny how weather just keeps on being cyclic, and things just keep on getting cold in the winter... damn that global warming, eh?

Yep, the sea ice in the Arctic as fully recovered after we were warned it would totally melt in 2008...Europe is under an avalanche of snow and cold temps, the U.S. has seen records broken for cold temps and snow...I am ready for this global warming to end!
