According to sources in Congress, a plan being circulated by proponents of the bailout of the automotive industry stipulates government control over the restructuring of the industry in exchange for federal money.
This only goes to prove that federal dollars always come with strings attached.
If Congress agrees to grant billions of tax dollars to the big 3 auto giants, then Congress will expect oversight control over a massive restructuring of the industry.
And we all know how 'efficient' and 'cost-effective' government is.
It would be sort of like putting the ChiComs in charge of restructuring North Korea to be more friendly toward the idea of human rights.

If the car company execs had any balls they would move their companies out of the USA and build cars for the world.
What you can do without unions

Yes, unless the Unions make major concessions, along with management, their only alternative to going under would be to move offshore or overseas and use cheap labor.
Of course, management is not off the hook here, either. The Big 3 claim they are weeks from bankruptcy, yet they spend millions of dollars on ad campaigns trying to convince citizens to pressure Congress to grant them a bailout.
THAT makes no sense.
