Second Amendment News Roundup for 3/1/08

Focusing on guns and politics, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

I am a bit late getting on board with this (the death of Bill Buckley was a set-back), but Nicki has the story and two updates of the latest gestapo tactics of the AFT...the jackbooted thugs have struck again:
http://libertyzone.blogspot.com/2008/02/cavalry-arms-raided-by-atf-today.html

Nicki also has this from Congressional and Senate morons. The Democrats wish to battle rising oil prices by piling on more taxes! The federal government already takes more in taxes from a gallon of gas than the oil companies make in profits. But of course it is always corporate America that is greedy and evil, never government:

The War on Guns provides the updates to the latest ATF travesty, along with the background of the story. Just click on the links:

Mike McCarville is reporting today that Hillary's campaign continues to implode:

If you pray, put Red's Trading Post at the top of your list for Tuesday. Tuesday marks the date of the trial for Red's Trading Post vs. the ATF and their heavy-handed, gestapo tactics. Ryan gives us this update:

Alphecca has very discouraging news from Vermont:

This is today's MUST-read. Read all the way to the end. Breda has some shocking information on just how docile and sheep-like America has become:

And while you're at it, read THIS from Breda! While most Muslims are harmless, the 7% minority want to kill us...that translates to 91 MILLION Islamic extremists who wish to wreak havoc:

Born Again Redneck has a very nice tribute to William F. Buckley, Jr., along with excerpts from a debate between Buckley and that a**hole Noam Chomsky, as well as my fav pic of my two political heroes/mentors standing together--Bill Buckley and Ronald Reagan:

Sebastian points to a paper that shows that relationship between gun ownership and freedom:

Dustin's Gun Blog posts Dennis Prager's 5 questions about the mainstream media's coverage of shootings at universities:

Say Uncle thoroughly takes apart the wolf in sheep's clothes, The American Hunters and Shooters Association:

As always, Roberta X has a thought-provoking read, even if you find yourself disagreeing with some of it (but not much, at least with me..although I have a bone to pick with her on William F. Buckley):

Of Arms and the Law has the shocking information that most lower federal court judges do NOT believe the 2nd Amendment is an INDIVIDUAL right:

Hi, Ms. X,

Glad you dropped by.

Perhaps I inadvertently exaggerated my statement about your views on Buckley.

I am not irked or miffed or anything like that...more like intrigued.

You and Tam both spoke of your admiration for Bill Buckley, but went further to state your disagreement with him most of the time, or 50% of the time at the least.

I was wondering about the source of your disagreement. It would seem that Buckley's views would be palatable to people like you, realizing, of course, that we are never going to agree with someone 100% of the time.

But 50% at the most? I was just wondering about the source of your discontent.

I may've eggaggerated. I found Mr. Buckley was often a bit more interventionist than myself and at times a bit over-ready to rush to the standard of leaders at whom I looked askance. And there was the religion thing; I believe it is possible for persons to be moral without necessarily espousing a faith and he...not so much.

At times, I was so mesmeriezed by how he said things that the what may not have stuck as well as it ought. So few people can speak in an interesting a manner that I'm like a magpie with something shiny when I find one!

Thanks for responding, Roberta.

And as you know, Bill Buckley was a devout Catholic, which is not necessarily a bad thing :-), but which may have skewed his views concerning those who may espouse a deep spirituality apart from organized religion.

In his mind, I would postulate, it was difficult to imagine one having strong morals apart from at least a consideraton of the source of those morals.

But I do not wish to debate religion here.

And yes, to those who are totally non-interventionist, some of Buckley's views would be problemmatic, as are my own views.

I do believe that there are times when not only circumstances but the very morality about which you speak demands that we intervene in certain situations around the world.

We may not always get it right as to when to do so, but I believe we do most of the time.

And yes, I agree with you 100% about his wonderful and rare way with words. Those who have that kind of command of the English language are VERY few and far between. But Buckley was one of the few.

With me, however, my admiration for him went far beyond his use of the language. I really did find his views to be appealing...so appealing, in fact, that I have spent my life attempting to influence persons with those views.

Anyway, thanks for the dialogue about Buckley...
