Leroy, Alabama (TLS). Washington County, Alabama law enforcement officials report the arrest of a 54-year-old female teacher, Charlene Schmitz, for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student.
Schmitz, who teaches at Leroy High School in the small town of Leroy, Alabama, has been charged with rape and sodomy. Law enforcement officials state that the arrest was made after the mother of the 14-year-old boy presented to police dozens of sexually explicit emails that the teacher allegedly sent to her son.
Washington County Sheriff's officials state that Schmitz has been released from jail on a $40,000 bond, and is awaiting her first court hearing on July 24.

This lady is my "ex" great aunt. A LONG time ago (when I was a child) she was married to my great uncle. I've heard about how much she adores her two children, one of which is a teenager. It seems very odd to all of us that a 14 year old would be interested in a 50 something old overweight teacher. really weird. I can't speculate but I almost wonder if the boy could have been involved with her daughter and she is somehow protecting her daughter?? don't know. it just all sounds crazy. Regardless, something ain't right with the whole situation. I suppose the law enforcement will figure out the facts. Leroy is a very small town. The whole community is shocked. Just not something you hear of around there.
