Second Amendment News Roundup for 7/15/09

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

SnowFlakesInHell is live-blogging the Sotomayor hearings, complete with updates as they happen. This is a continuation of their quick-notes from yesterday's hearings (sorry that the link I provided was broken).

The Stiletto does a good job in comparing/contrasting the manner in which the GOP is treating Sotomayor versus the manner in which Democrats trashed Alito and Roberts.

Every Blade of Grass provides an great pictorial on his recent visit to the historic 'Old Fort MacArthur Days' festival.

Gun Nuts has the complete roundup and downloads from last night's edition of Gun Nuts Radio.

Ride Fast and Shoot Straight posts something called 'Tactically Refreshing' that you need to see. Great photo!

Tam made a new resolution concerning the tons of gun questions stacked up in her mailbox, so stay tuned. And yes, she IS quite an authority on firearms!

David Codrea thoroughly exposes Chicago Mayor Daily's utter hypocrisy on guns. This is a MUST-READ!

Mike Vanderboegh also has essential reading on 'the shipwreck of all the Founders' hopes' that we are now witnessing.

There's a lot of great, essential reading out there today, folks, and Western Rifle Shooters Association has another one entitled, 'Think Globally But Act Locally.'

Say Uncle has the quote of the day on why the gun control argument isn't convincing.

Dang. Take a look at this 'toy' Robb Allen posts called 'the Chain SAW.'

Ha! You need to see this letter. Way Up North posts a copy of a letter someone sent to Ma'am Babs Boxer, Senator from Kalifornia, reaming her on her rude remarks to a General.

Walls of the City posts the perfect example that confirms what most of us believe by now, that Barack Obama is driving us right off the cliff.

Texas Fred shows us that Sotomayor's attempts to defend her legal record are a tad bit of a stretch, to say the least.

Alphecca fisks Senator Patrick 'Leaky' Leahy for his less-than-truthful account of history!

Second Amendment News Roundup for 7/14/09

Focusing on guns, politics, and news of interest, here is today's Second Amendment News Roundup:

CNS News reports that Sonia Sotomayor stated in hearings this morning that the verdict is out on the 2nd Amendment and that it does not apply to the states. Uh, funny how the 14th Amendment is taken to apply to every single right in the BILL OF RIGHTS except 1--the Second Amendment. Sotomayor wants it to stay that way, which begs the question as to why the NRA failed to throw its full weight behind opposing this travesty of a nominee.

The War on Guns weighs in on the Sotomayor/Obama attack on gun rights. And if our 'progressive NRA friends' cannot stop THIS nominee, how do they think they can stop the next one, who WILL shift the Supreme Court to the Left in favor gun control and limited the 2nd Amendment? The Dems now have a 60-seat super-majority. They WILL confirm whoever Obama puts before them. Do you honestly expect the next one will be any less a danger to gun rights?

Sebastian live-blogs the Sotomayor exchange on guns and provides some insightful comments. But I must be quick to point out that the argument 'but she's only replacing Souter who wouldn't be our friend anyway' is a fallacious notion. When Sotomayor is confirmed, the gun rights community (the NRA in particular) WILL regret not vehemently opposing her when Obama chooses his next Court nominee who will be just as bad if not worse.

Conservative Libertarian Outpost posts a special alert on Sotomayor from Gun Owners of America--the ONLY national gun rights advocacy organization that actively opposed and lobbied Senators to oppose Sotomayor.

Free in Idaho presents the only question that really needs an answer from Sonia Sotomayor. A good read!

Days of our Trailers notes that it's very telling that a certain organization we all know and love (yeah, right) has endorsed Sonia Sotomayer for SCOTUS.

Texas Fred has been at the forefront of the battle against Sotomayor, and posts a letter he received today from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson on the matter and relays this information from Senator John Cornyn.

Ride Fast and Shoot Straight says that Californians are 'gunning up' just like everyone else. I see a renewed run on the gun shops in light of the real possibility that Obama will succeed in turning the Supreme Court anti-gun.

Breda has the scoop on tonight's edition of Gun Nuts Radio.

Bloviating Zeppelin says that history proves that environmental regulations kill commerce, jobs, and cause costs to skyrocket.

The Rustmeister informs us of the real reason restaurant owners don't want gun owners to carry in their businesses.

1 With a Bullet blogs on 'the Wild Bunch Holster.' Interesting!

Say Uncle reports that Arizona's GOP Governor has expanded gun rights in the state. Good!

Standing By says that Obama's bailed out fascist mixture of government and business at Goldman-Sachs is at the center of the push for the cap and trade energy tax. I would also note that so is GE, the owner of NBC News and its subsidiaries.

Western Rifle Shooters Association takes a chilling look at a new 'Czar' Obama has appointed--a savage who puts to shame Hitler's 'doctors' who performed experiments on political prisoners and Jews.

Brigid shares a beautifully-written poem entitled, 'The Wolf Is In My Soul.' Don't pass this up!

2 Goals Dems Hope to Reach by Falsely Accusing Cheney

The Democrats and the Obama Administration have ulterior motives for falsely accusing Dick Cheney of 'misleading Congress' and 'failing to inform Congress of a secret operation he implemented in the War on Terror.'

By floating out this entirely preposterous 'red herring' to see how much traction it gains, the Dems hope to reach 2 critical goals.

I blow the lid on the Dems' ulterior motives in today's column at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

Thanks for reading. Tell a friend?

STOP CAP & TRADE IN U.S. SENATE!

Today we the citizens MUST get back to work to stop the ominous Cap and Trade bill that Democrats, Obama, and some Republicans want to shove down our throats.

Friends, this albatross will sink the economy at a time when we cannot withstand such a hit. Not only is it a bad concept, but the timing comes at the worst possible moment for the American economy.

Michelle Malkin has the latest on the battle in the U.S. Senate that starts TODAY.

Time to burn up the phone lines, faxes, and emails to let ALL Senators know that the citizens are OUTRAGED that they would even briefly consider such a sham. And let them know they WILL have hell to pay if they vote for this monstrosity that will cost over a million U.S. jobs and raise our taxes and energy costs by an extra $1300 to $3000 PER YEAR.

And be sure the RINOS get the message--John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and others of their ilk who will sell out the citizens in order to 'cut a deal' with the devil.

Kurt Hofmann examines California's 'assault weapon' ban and notes that even with the ban some think it's not restrictive enough! Just like the antis. When they succeed with one ban, they move to more restrictions!

Insight on Freedom says that Americans are continuing to arm themselves in record numbers.

The Rustmeister notes that a sports writer used the death of NFL star Steve McNair as an opportunity to go on an anti-gun rant.

Notoriously Conservative has interesting reading on a car that costs only 600 bucks and gets 258 miles per gallon. It's made by a German company but it's sold only in China.

Brigid writes about battles on the home front and notes that our soldiers are often returning home from overseas, only to find they have no job and no home.

Tam wonders about whether a certain gun is more 'patriotic' than the rest.

Say Uncle comments on fixing healthcare in America. A good read!

Robb Allen shares a list of some gun stuff he needs. Take a look at the list--there are some things there we all need to make sure we have.

From Mike Vanderboegh: 'The Rule of Law is Dead, but the Rule of Man Should Take No Comfort from It.'

Walls of the City presents a mega-post on knives, complete with photos.

SOTOMAYOR ALERT!

In a major embarrassment for the Obama Administration and Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling issued by Sotomayor that denied promotions to white firefighters in Connecticut based upon their race.

Sotomayor had ruled that minority firefighters were entitled to the promotions in spite of the fact that they did not do as well on a key test as the white firefighters.

The ruling by Sotomayor had set off a firestorm of controversy revolving around the issue of 'reverse discrimination.'

And the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court today is a stunning setback for Barack Obama, Sonia Sotomayor, and the Democrats on the Hill who are determined to place her on the high court.

This is not the first time Sotomayor's court decisions have been overturned. In fact, her decisions have been overturned by higher courts more than any other judge in the federal system.

The question is, will the SCOTUS ruling today be enough to deny Sotomayor a seat on the high court? Remember, Democrats have an overwhelming majority in Congress, and they have demonstrated again and again that they will engage in corruption, scandal, and arrogance, refusing to investigate corruption in their own ranks.

They may well railroad Sotomayor onto the Supreme Court in spite of her obvious incompetence.

Senators on the Hill need to near from the citizens that we will not tolerate any more shenanigans on their part to engage in blatant partisanship no matter what the consequences. They may well discover just how severe are the consequences come November of 2010.

Exposing Gore's Lies, Defeating Cap and Trade

The tide is turning as the Cap and Trade battle moves to the Senate. Due to the massive outpouring of citizen protest, some Senators are saying the bill is dead on arrival. We'll see.

Here is my comprehensive analysis of the issues related to the bill at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

Tam points to some pure, unadulterated, aromatic BS from the Associated Press concerning bloggers.

ALERT! Act NOW to Stop Cap and Tax!!

Extremist environmentalist nutcase algore is working the phones like crazy to help Obama, Pelosi, and other tax-hungry politicians ram through the ominous cap and trade bill.

ACT NOW to stop it! Call your Senators and Representatives to express your strong disapproval of this bill.

The bill will lead to the loss of an estimated one million U.S. jobs in the midst of a deep recession. It will also mean that every household in America will owe at least $3000 per year extra on their energy costs.

Can you afford that? I can't.

This amounts to nothing more than a tax levied on every American citizen--poor, middle class, and wealthy--in order to line the government coffers and 'stick it' to the oil and natural gas industry...the single largest source of energy for our homes.

Call Washington and tell these money-grubbing thieves NO!

Obama's Strange Answer on Gov't Healthcare

Did you happen to catch Obama's answer to a question about gov't healthcare during his news conference yesterday? It seems the President has a highly odd notion about private insurers being able to compete with a tax-subsidized government healthcare corporation.

Blowing the Lid on the Progressive Movement

Liberals today prefer to be called 'progressives.' But have you ever stopped to consider the history and goals of the progressive movement? It is an eye-opener.

I discuss this topic today at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

It is imperative that we consider the underlying philosophy of this movement as we fight the attempts of the big government statists to intrude in every aspect of our lives.

ACORN Bullying Exposed, Changes Name

Whistleblowers who once worked for ACORN are under attack for exposing the under-the-table tactics it employed to push the Obama candidacy while promoting itself merely as a 'voter registration organization.'

As the organization faces numerous criminal investigations in a number of states, ACORN decides to change its name.

No matter. A stench by any other name is still a stench.

Meanwhile, the Obama White House is on a witch hunt to punish anyone who seeks to expose the truth.

Michelle Malkin has the entire explosive story.

Wondering if Gibson Will Bow to 'Dear Leader'

Tomorrow is the big day when ABC News will use all of its news broadcasts to promote Obama's plan for a government takeover of healthcare.

I wonder if Charles Gibson and company will bow to 'dear leader' when standing in his luminous presence.

Brian Williams of NBC News did exactly that a few weeks ago after interviewing Obama at the White House.

Is this now what the Fuhrer expects from his loyal subjects?

It only stands to reason that NBC, which is owned by GE, which is solidly in the tank for Obama and his 'green initiatives'--and now ABC/Disney, which has thrown its journalistic integrity out the window in order to become part of the new 'Pravda'--would be expected to act as loyal little subjects to the headmaster. He owns them now.

Watch the body language tomorrow if you think you can stomach this charade. As for me, I won't watch a single minute of it. Of course, I gave up on Couric and Williams too. I don't depend on the government propaganda machine for my news.

'The Women of the Iranian Revolution'

She was young, pretty, vivacious. And she was murdered in cold blood by barbaric jackbooted government thugs in Iran. Her face has now become a rallying cry for freedom fighters in Iran and other oppressed nations around the world.

Neda was her name. She is among the bold, courageous women of the Iranian Revolution.

Read all about her and others in a moving tribute at Atlas Shrugs.

And remember, this could well be the U.S. in a few short years, perhaps sooner.

Obama Downfall Hinges on One Violation of Law

If and when liberals get their conscience back, one single violation of the law may well spur Barack Obama's downfall.

And it is a law he himself helped craft and pass!

This is my subject today at Columbia Conservative Examiner.

The Buckeye Firearms Association files an important update on its lawsuit against the city of Cleveland concerning the city's violations of firearms rights.

Dustin's Gun Blog alerts us to a breaking update on hearings on the Arizona parking lot gun storage bill.

Liberals 'Buying Up Guns'?

A reader reported last week that one liberal told him that people on the Left are beginning to 'buy up guns.' The reason? They are afraid of the millions of gun owners who are arming to the hilt in response to Obama.

ROFL!

For one thing, I don't believe it.

And even if it were true, it is amazing how quickly liberals give up on their core principles when they face a perceived 'threat.'

Of course, we have known about the liberal hypocrisy on guns for years. Even Senator Dianne Feinstein armed herself when she and her family were the recipients of threats from a Leftwing subversive group years ago. Yet Feinstein would deny that right to most Americans with her decidedly anti-gun, anti-self-defense votes.

But even so, if the liberals begin to 'buy up guns' and thus exercise their Constitutional right to own firearms, I will be among the first to congratulate them for coming around to our point of view.

Dems to Ram Gov't-Run Healthcare Through Congress

Canada Free Press is reporting this morning that Democrats in Congress are prepared to ram the gov't-run healthcare bill through Congress and shove it down the throats of Americans whether we want it or not.

A key Democrat, New York Sen. Charles Schumer, said this option now seems even more of a necessity in view of unsuccessful behind-the-scenes attempts to get a deal with Republicans on nonprofit co-ops as an alternative to a public plan.

Schumer told The Associated Press Sunday night that those efforts have proved frustrating, saying that he and his Democratic colleagues now may have to go it alone.

Why am I not surprised that 'Little Chucky' is one of the main forces behind this nightmare?

Obama's Negatives Growing

Scott Rasmussen, who has issued a daily Presidential tracking poll for years, has reported that Obama's negatives are now greater than his positives. 34% of the country now strongly disapproves of Obama's job performance, while 33% strongly approves.

This is a much more telling number than the generic, overall 58% approval rating Obama supposedly gets from the electorate. While Americans still like Obama personally, the fact that there has been a major shift in the number who 'strongly disapprove' of his policies is a sign that all is not well in the Obama camp.

My hunch is that these negatives will only grow larger as Obama has from day one set himself on a collision course with American values and core principles.
