With all of his faults, he was a vast improvement over Gonzalez.

Ashcroft wasn't necessarily the best Attorney-General we've had, but he certainly wasn't the worst either.

And I agree that Gonzalez has been the source of much if not most of the Justice Department's woes.Welshmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14894597766174425492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34546675.post-79109726031669654982007-08-07T09:40:00.000-04:002007-08-07T09:40:00.000-04:00I don't disagree. Things that wouldn't even take an act of Congress.

But I think Bush is a huge improvement over Bubba Clinton, who's prattling on about gun control after every tragedy didn't do us any favors. Bush's unwillingness to really do anything for us is frustrating, but the fact that he hasn't been active against us is at least something.

And as far as why the ATF is emboldened lately: Alberto Gonzales. He's absolutely no friend of gun owners. It's sad when I pine for the days of John Ashcroft!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34546675.post-85204550631815860202007-08-05T23:46:00.000-04:002007-08-05T23:46:00.000-04:00Actually the current assault on gun rights and oth...Actually the current assault on gun rights and other civil liberty was started by George B Sr.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34546675.post-79549185440502395762007-08-04T12:47:00.000-04:002007-08-04T12:47:00.000-04:00Hammer,You're right. The Bush Administration could have reversed it, but for some reason chose not to. After all, it's been seven years. They had ample opportunity.

But it was an opportunity squandered.Welshmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14894597766174425492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34546675.post-25629307297664265282007-08-04T12:14:00.000-04:002007-08-04T12:14:00.000-04:00Bush did very little to undo what Clinton started....Bush did very little to undo what Clinton started.

Either it's not on his radar or he just dosen't care.nonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07550167783969561280noreply@blogger.com
